About: AgileRss is a desktop aggregator that is able to display any RSS,
ATOM, and XML news feed. It also allows you to keep up-to-date with all
your preferred sources of information that support the RSS protocol.

Changes: There is a ticker option to display all ticker content as a list,
a print option for article content and newspapers, and wheel mouse action
in the ticker. There is a bugfix for closing the application on Windows,
and a bugfix for showing pop-ups on the ticker.

About: AVScan is an anti-virus scanner that uses the ClamAV library
(libclamav). It allows you to create a list of scan items for frequently
scanned locations and features on-demand virus database updating, manual
drag and drop object scanning, and pausing and resuming of scanning, all
in a simple GUI environment.

Changes: The scanner operations module was updated for ClamAV 0.93rc1 and
the Virus Database Page was modified to display a bit more information.

Communications :: WAP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: Anyterm provides a terminal emulator on a Web page using Javascript
and an Apache module. The module forks a shell and communicates with the
script using XMLHTTP on port 80, or securely using SSL. This provides you
with shell access to your machine from almost any Web browser, even when
firewalls are in the way. Experimental features include support for
standalone operation without Apache, and the my.anyterm.org service
provides access without the need to install anything on your servers.

Changes: This version handles ALT+letter and CTRL+space key combinations.

[004] - Cedar Backup 2.17.0

  Thu, Mar 20th 2008 13:26

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
System :: Archiving :: Backup
Utilities

About: Cedar Backup is a software package designed to manage system
backups for a pool of local and remote machines. Cedar Backup understands
how to back up filesystem data as well as MySQL and PostgreSQL databases
and Subversion repositories. It can also be easily extended to support
other kinds of data sources. Cedar Backup is focused around weekly backups
to a single CD or DVD disc. It supports multisession discs, allowing you to
add incremental data to a disc on a daily basis. Cedar Backup also provides
a Python library of backup-related functionality.

Changes: Several users recently experienced unit test failures, which were
ultimately traced to imprecise file age (utime) behavior on some platforms.
This release makes the unit tests less susceptible to this problem, and
adds diagnostic information to the test output for help in debugging. A
new --diagnostics command line switch was also added.

About: Chandler Desktop is a standards-based personal information manager
(PIM) built around small group collaboration and a core set of information
management workflows modeled on Inbox usage patterns and David Allen's GTD
methodology.

Changes: The UI has been simplified to remove confusing components.
"Tasks" have been renamed to "starred items". The sharing protocol has
been updated to match Chandler Server (Cosmo) 0.13 to prevent a case where
an item shared as read-only could be escalated to have read-write
permissions.

[006] - check_afs_rpc 1.0.1
  by Matteo Corti (http://freshmeat.net/users/corti/)
  Thu, Mar 20th 2008 07:29

System :: Monitoring

About: check_afs_rpc is a Nagios plugin for checking AFS file servers to
see if there are client connections waiting for a free thread. If there
are more than a few of these, AFS performance tends to be very slow; this
is a fairly reliable way to catch overloaded file servers. By default,
check_rxdebug returns a critical error if there are more than eight
connections waiting for a free thread, and a warning if there are more
than two. These thresholds can be changed with the --critical and
--warning options. check_afs_rpc will always print out a single line of
output including the number of blocked connections, and displaying whether
this is critical, a warning, or okay.

Changes: The Nagios plugin is now compatible with embedded perl (ePN).

  Thu, Mar 20th 2008 12:54

Communications
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: cpt aims to be running in front of any HTTPS server. It forwards
all requests that don't call for a "CONNECT .." to the normal HTTPS
server. There is no error handling for mistaken requests; they go straight
to the default server. A request that doesn't pass the conditions is passed
forward too, and the Web server will handle it (with the default error
page). Users should be unaware that cpt is running as a proxy.

Changes: This release adds manual test suite header files in the
repository to check different configuration set up possibilities.

[008] - Cosmo 0.13.0 (Stable)
  by Randy Letness (http://freshmeat.net/users/rletness/)
  Thu, Mar 20th 2008 13:22

Communications
Internet

About: Cosmo is the OSAF calendar sharing server. With your favorite
calendar program (Chandler, Apple iCal, Mozilla Sunbird, or any other
WebDAV or CalDAV enabled client), you can share your calendar with other
people by publishing it to Cosmo. Your shared calendars can be subscribed
to and updated by anyone, even if they don't have an account on your
server. Cosmo provides Atom feeds for shared calendars, so you can track
updates in your favorite feed reader and integrate your calendar into your
Web site or blog.

Changes: This release includes a major security fix as well as a small
amount of minor bugfixes. The focus for this release was to fix the
security hole present in prior versions that allowed users to gain write
access to items without a read-write ticket. Part of this fix required
changes to the desktop client, so upgrading the server to 0.13.0 will
require upgrading Chandler Desktop to 0.7.5 in order to support certain
features (sharing items in multiple collections).

  by thx1132 (http://freshmeat.net/users/kiesling3/)
  Thu, Mar 20th 2008 00:08

Software Development :: Interpreters
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Ctalk provides object oriented programming features, like classes,
methods, operator overloading, and inheritance to otherwise standard C
programs. You can use only a few objects and classes in a program, or you
can write programs entirely in Ctalk. The package provides a translator
from Ctalk source code into C for compilation and a library that provides
run-time support for class objects. The preprocessor, ctpp, is also
available separately, and the package includes sample programs and
documentation.

Changes: This release adds template translation of C functions to methods
so that programs can use functions in C as well as Ctalk statements. It
also provides improved evaluation of C and Ctalk expressions used as C
library function arguments and improved evaluation of function parameters,
and contains numerous bugfixes.

sense for typical users throughout the world. The library contains a
generic Stringprep implementation that does Unicode 3.2 NFKC
normalization, mapping and prohibition of characters, and bidirectional
character handling. Profiles for iSCSI, Kerberos 5, Nameprep, SASL, and
XMPP are included. Punycode and ASCII Compatible Encoding (ACE) via IDNA

  Thu, Mar 20th 2008 00:09

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Security

About: NessusWC provides a simple HTTP Web interface to the Nessus
Security Scanner. It connects to local or remote Nessus version 2 daemons
via SSL (using OpenSSL libraries), retrieves the plugins, configures a
scan for a single target host, and saves the results in HTML format. As
a result, even users with limited security knowledge can scan their
machines. Scan results are stored in a central place.

Changes: Correct error handling was implemented for when the Nessus server
plugin list exhausts the maximum number of plugins defined in NessusWC. The
MAXPLUGS default value was raised from 20000 to 40000. This was noticed
when the plugin count reached 20667.

[030] - ProGuard 4.2
  by Eric Lafortune (http://freshmeat.net/users/lafortune/)
  Thu, Mar 20th 2008 09:48

Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Code Generators

About: ProGuard is a free Java class file shrinker, optimizer, obfuscator,
and preverifier. It detects and removes unused classes, fields, methods,
and attributes. It optimizes bytecode and removes unused instructions. It
renames the remaining classes, fields, and methods using short meaningless
names. Finally, it preverifies the processed code for Java 6 or for Java
Micro Edition. The resulting jars are more compact and more difficult to
reverse-engineer. Advantages of ProGuard compared to other Java shrinkers
and obfuscators are compact template-based configuration, memory
efficiency, and speed.

Changes: The data flow analysis in the optimization step has been refined.
Other changes are mostly bugfixes for the optimization step and for the
obfuscation step. Notably, the optimization step now avoids increasing the
size of methods beyond certain bounds, in order not to upset the HotSpot
JIT compiler. The documentation and examples have been updated.

  Thu, Mar 20th 2008 03:45

Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Python is an interpreted, interactive, object-oriented programming
language. It combines remarkable power with very clear syntax, and isn't
difficult to learn. It has modules, classes, exceptions, very high level
data types, and dynamic typing. There are interfaces to many system calls
and libraries, as well as to various windowing systems (Tk, Mac, MFC,
GTK+, Qt, wxWindows). New built-in modules are easily written in C or C++.
Python is also usable as an extension language for applications that need a
programmable interface.

Changes: An issue with the deallocation of array objects when allocation
ran out of memory was fixed. An array test case that was incorrect on
64-bit systems was removed. Te test_struct.test_crasher, which was
meaningful only on 32-bit systems, was removed.

Internet
Software Development

About: RMIIO is a library that makes it as simple as possible to stream
large amounts of data using the RMI framework (or any RPC framework). The
RMI framework makes it very easy to implement remote communication between
Java programs, yet does not provide any ready solutions for sending large
files without blowing out memory on the client or server. What you really
want to do is stream data from the client to the server using a framework
that does not really expose a streaming model. The RMIIO library provides
some very powerful classes that enable a client to stream data to the
server using only a few extra lines of code.

[040] - Strasheela 0.9.2
  by Torsten Anders (http://freshmeat.net/users/tanders/)
  Thu, Mar 20th 2008 13:23

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: Strasheela is a highly expressive constraint-based music
composition system. Users declaratively state a music theory and the
computer generates music which complies with this theory. A theory is
formulated as a constraint satisfaction problem (CSP) by a set of rules
(constraints) applied to a music representation in which some aspects are
expressed by variables (unknowns). Music constraint programming is
style-independent and is well-suited for highly complex theories (e.g. a
fully-fledged theory of harmony). Results can be output into various
formats including MIDI, Lilypond, and Csound.

Changes: This release supports recomputation for distribution strategies
with random value ordering. Recomputation trades memory for run time
(important for solving complex problems), and randomised solutions are
important for many musical problems. Functions for processing tempo curves
and time shift functions have been added. The tutorial has been revised
further. Other additions and bugfixes have been made to the system.

  Thu, Mar 20th 2008 07:27

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Documentation

About: Synopsis is a multi-language source code introspection tool that
provides a variety of representations for the parsed code to enable
further processing such as documentation extraction, reverse engineering,
and source-to-source translation. It provides a framework of C++ and
Python APIs to access these representations and allows Processor objects
to be defined and composed into processing pipelines, making this
framework very flexible and extensible.

Changes: More information is captured, such as relationships between
primary class templates and their specializations and instantiations. The
user interface was simplified. The Python parser now supports parsing of
dependent (imported) files. The DocBook formatter has been rewritten. It
now supports Javadoc and ReST document markup. The HTML formatter has been
enhanced in many respects. Many bugs have been fixed. The C and C++ parsers
have been enhanced, and many bugs have been fixed.
