Database
Documentation
Information Management
About: AgileWiki is meant to create software systems which are fluid,
easily configured and can be reorganized on-the-fly to meet ever changing
requirements. It includes a COW-based database, the Rolonics programming
paradigm, and semantic inferencing.
Changes: The add operation on an ordered node was not removing the old
name. Consequently, an iterator would encounter the same name in more than
one location. This has been fixed. Database names must now end in ".cowdb".

[018] - EZFB Linux Frame Buffer API 10.00
by James Lehman (http://freshmeat.net/users/JamesLehman/)
Fri, Mar 21st 2008 16:15
Artistic Software
Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Modeling
About: EZFB is a polymorphic, object oriented Linux frame buffer API
written in C, designed to adapt at run time to control any properly
configured Linux frame buffer video system. It offers independent,
simultaneous control of multiple video cards within a single system,
exceptional control of colors, the ability to display all or portions of
bitmap files anywhere on the screen, automatic color depth conversion, the
ability to capture to bitmap files, an 8x8 bitmapped font, routines to draw
points, lines, outlined and filled rectangles, signal trapping for
automatic screen clean-up at process termination, and much more. The
demonstration applications include a bitmap viewer, screen capture
utility, screen saver, and a touch screen calibration utility and an
application for generating, viewing, transforming, and saving files
according to The International Laser Display Association's ILDA file
format.
Changes: This release is radically different from the previous version
(over 3 years ago). The entire core of the frame buffer has been optimized
with pre-calculated pointers to pixel rows, eliminating a lot of redundant
math and pointers to functions, set at initialization, eliminating
redundant switch statements. In other words, it's a lot faster. New
features have been added to enhance and accelerate animation in the frame
buffer. A fully functional version of LaserBoy is included.

About: ipt_pkd is an iptables extension implementing port knock detection.
This project provides 3 parts: the kernel module ipt_pkd, the iptables user
space module libipt_pkd.so, and a user space client knock program. For the
knock packet, it uses a UDP packet sent to a random port that contains a
SHA-256 of a timestamp, small header, random bytes, and a shared key.
ipt_pkd checks the time window of the packet and does the SHA-256 to
verify the packet. The shared key is never sent.

[029] - JCR 0.6.1rc1
by John Dickson (http://freshmeat.net/users/captsens/)
Fri, Mar 21st 2008 01:38
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
About: JCR is a Web application for performing and managing code reviews.
Although it has some special logic for reviewing Java projects, it can be
used for reviews of any type of source code. JCR manages all stages of the
review process (initial project setup, individual review, joint review
meeting, post-review tidy-up), but it's mainly there to show diff views of
files that have changed and to allow comments to be made on any line of any
file marked for review.
Changes: The failure to work with SQLAlchemy versions later than 0.4.0 was
fixed. The failure to view modified files if the JCR base directory was not
under the working directory was fixed. A couple of minor features were
added, including templates for project notes and a working backup script
for sysadmins.

[031] - KMetronome 0.8.1
by Pedro Lopez-Cabanillas (http://freshmeat.net/users/plcl/)
Fri, Mar 21st 2008 16:19
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: MIDI
About: KMetronome is a MIDI metronome with KDE interface, based on the
ALSA sequencer. The intended audience is musicians and music students.
Like solid, real metronomes it is a tool to keep the rhythm while playing
musical instruments. It uses MIDI for sound generation instead of digital
audio, allowing low CPU usage, and very accurate timing thanks to the
ALSA sequencer.
Changes: This release fixes a compilation error using GCC 4. It fixes MIDI
output for QSynth/Fluidsynth and other soft synths. It uses longer
(configurable) durations, or even avoids using note off events entirely.
The schedule is always one bar ahead of the current time to avoid the
nasty little gaps between patterns.

[033] - LibPKI 0.1.9
by Massimiliano Pala (http://freshmeat.net/users/madwolf/)
Fri, Mar 21st 2008 01:23
About: The LibPKI Project is aimed to provide an easy-to-use PKI library
for PKI-enabled application development. The library provides the
developer with all the needed functionality to manage certificates, from
generation to validation. It should help developers integrate X509 digital
certificates into their applications, and implement complex cryptographic
operations with a few simple function calls using a high-level
cryptographic API. The library constitutes the core of the OpenCA-NG
Project.
Changes: Support was added for DSA-sha224 and DSA-sha256 algorithms and
ECDSA with SHA2 suite (ECDSA-SHA224, ECDSA-SHA256, ECDSA-SHA384,
ECDSA-SHA512). EC key generation (selected curves only by using bit sizes)
was fixed. Named curves for 256, 384, and 512 bit sizes (EC) are now
aligned with NIST specifications. Support for OpenSSL 0.9.9 version
(current snapshots) was added. Support for static library linking (Linux)
was fixed. Support for PKI_ALGOR and PKI_DIGEST_ALG managing was enhanced.
Initial support for PKCS#7 object management was added.

[036] - Long Range ZIP 0.23
by Con Kolivas (http://freshmeat.net/users/conman/)
Fri, Mar 21st 2008 01:33
System :: Archiving :: Compression
About: LRZIP is a compression program that can achieve very high
compression ratios and speed when used with large files. It uses the
combined compression algorithms of lzma for maximum compression, lzo for
maximum speed, and the long range redundancy reduction of rzip. It is
designed to scale with increases with RAM size, improving compression
further. A choice of either size or speed optimizations allows for either
better compression than even lzma can provide, or better speed than gzip,
but with bzip2 sized compression levels.
Changes: The LZMA SDK was updated to the latest version, 4.57.
Multithreading support for LZMA was added, which nearly doubles speed. A
gzip compression option was added. An assembler module for CRC computation
was added, but this is dependent on the processor. More enhancements were
made to the lzo_compresses function to avoid LZMA errors. File cleanup was
done. configure.in was changed to improve compiling. Code cleanup was done.
Documentation with benchmarks was improved and expanded. Major bugs were
fixed to work on big RAM machines. A major fix was made to prevent copying
all data above 4GB uncompressed.

allows existing .as source files to be loaded, and simple modifications to
be made. The current implementation is still immature, and does not support
all AS3 syntax.
Changes: This release has switched to the Apache License. Initial support
for ActionScript expressions was added to the DOM. The API now provides
for 'dynamic' and 'final' class modifiers. Support was added for 'break',

message-passing API on the Cell's SPE processors, with one MPI rank per SPE
across any number of Cells and the ability for any SPE to communicate
directly with any other SPE, even across a network. The Cell Messaging
Layer thereby makes programming clusters of Cell processors similar to
programming clusters of conventional CPUs.

[059] - Votorola 0.1.0
by Michael Allan (http://freshmeat.net/users/mcallan/)
Fri, Mar 21st 2008 13:23
About: Votorola is software for hosting open elections. It implements an
electoral system that sits outside of government and beyond the control of
parties. Its voter lists are backed by a trust network that is rooted in
community neighbourhoods. It enables voters to advance their own
candidates for public office, their own policies for executive action, and
their own legislative bills for statutory law.
Changes: The electoral register is now backed by a neighbourhood trust
network. The commands 'trust' and 'untrust' were added to the front end,
allowing voters to submit trust signals for the purpose of
cross-authentication. A channel to Google's geocoding service was added to
the back end, enabling signal ranges to be restricted by configuration
scripts. A complete trace of the trust network is now merged with the
voter list, enabling administrators to restrict voting to trusted
registrants. This completes the functional core of Votorola, bringing it
to alpha.

About: VWM is an extensible window manager for the console. Built on top
of libpseudo and libviper, VWM is more visual alternative to Screen.
Mozilla-style plugins allow for simple expandability: follow a few simple
API rules and drop your shared object into a directory to have it added to
the main menu.
Changes: This release adds a built-in backtrace facility and has some
small changes for portability.

Information Management :: Issue Tracking
About: WikkaWiki is a lightweight and flexible wiki engine allowing easy
management of Websites, in particular collective Web-based projects: it
provides an intuitive interface for modifying page content, tracking and
comparing revisions made by single users, and setting user access
privileges. It features W3 compliant XHTML and CSS output, several text
formatting options, categories, a GUI for editing pages, support for
images, tables, Flash objects, RSS feeds, FreeMind maps, advanced Access

security enhancements, and bugfixes: new user and page administration

About: XevdevServer is a program that uses the Linux evdev interface to
capture events from specific mouse and keyboard devices. It then
translates these events and sends them to an X display using the XTEST
extension. It can be helpful in a multi-seat X configuration.
Changes: This is a complete rewrite of the program. The most important
change is that you can now use a config file to map Linux evdev codes onto
X keycodes. You can also specify custom actions for certain key
combinations in the config file.
