Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Weighted Random,
Least Session, Least Bandwidth, Hash, Agent, and Randomized Agent) and a
customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It supports VRRP to
set up high availability configurations on multiple nodes. It supports
SNMP, integrating the BALANCENG-MIB with Net-SNMPD. It integrates pcap
packet dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge".

Changes: Unnecessary and confusing forwarding table "relearning" warnings
concerning VRRP traffic are now suppressed. This has been applied to the
"stable" branch as well, resulting in 1.922.

System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions :: CD-Based
System :: Systems Administration

About: CDlinux is a compact Linux distribution. It is small in size, yet
rich in features. It ships with an up-to-date version of the Linux kernel,
Xorg, Xfce, and many popular applications. It has good internationalization
and locale support and is highly user-configurable.

Changes: This release ships with Linux 2.6.24.4, Xorg 7.3, Xfce 4.4.2,
Firefox 2.0.0.3, Pidgin 2.4.1, and many other up-to-date popular
applications. These are all packed in a 51M ISO. This release added basic
MacTel support and greatly improved support for
internationalization/locales. It also introduced a new method for
auto-configuring X. All newer video cards can be auto-detected and
configured. Booting and hardware detection were fine-tuned, and it is now
possible to boot into X within 30 seconds on most hardware configurations.

Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Cuelib is a Java library for manipulating and otherwise working
with cue sheets. Cue sheets describe the layout of a CD or DVD, and are
the de facto standard for describing track data of multi-track audio
files, such as WAV or FLAC images of entire audio CDs.

Changes: A command line tool that can cut files into tracks based on
information provided in a cue sheet was added. This has support for
post-processing, so you can easily encode tracks using lame or FLAC
(including setting the ID3 tags based on the data in the cue sheet).
Tracks hidden in pregaps are supported, such as used in Skunk Anansie's
album Stoosh. A serializer that writes a cue sheet to an XML
representation was added. A convenient method for getting various metadata
from cue sheet representations was added.

About: GNU Libidn is an implementation of the Stringprep, Punycode, and
IDNA specifications defined by the IETF Internationalized Domain Names
(IDN) working group. It is used to prepare internationalized strings (such
as domain name labels, usernames, and passwords) in order to increase the
likelihood that string input and string comparison work in ways that make
sense for typical users throughout the world. The library contains a
generic Stringprep implementation that does Unicode 3.2 NFKC
normalization, mapping and prohibition of characters, and bidirectional
character handling. Profiles for iSCSI, Kerberos 5, Nameprep, SASL, and
XMPP are included. Punycode and ASCII Compatible Encoding (ACE) via IDNA
are supported.

Changes: For the idn command line tool, a new parameter, --nfkc, was added
to process a string with Unicode v3.2 NFKC. A minor build fix was made for
native Win32 builds. The gnulib files were updated.

Communications :: Ham Radio
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The HAM radio equipment control libraries allow you to write
amateur radio equipment control programs for transceivers and antenna
rotators which use CAT or similar computer interfaces for control.

Changes: This version is a maintenance release. Owners of a FT1000MP
definitely need to upgrade in order to fix a regression introduced by
1.2.7. This release also has a new backend for miniVNA. Fixes were made
for the Tentec Orion and Omni VI Plus. The scanning has been implemented
in the AOR backend. Kenwood models TS-2000 and TS-870S can now get and set
antenna. The TS-2000 backend gained strength meter calibration.

[016] - Image matting tool 0.1
  by Thomas Haenselmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/haensel/)
  Sat, Apr 12th 2008 01:05

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Raster-Based

About: Image matting tool cuts out objects in photos using an
alpha-matting technique. While clear cuts can be found for all objects
that are clearly separated from their environment, objects with fuzzy
borders and semi-transparent areas don't have a clear outline. The tool
creates an alpha channel that defines the degree to which the background
shines through the foreground for every pixel. The background color can
then be subtracted. The user defines a rough boundary of an object with a
large brush and a high-quality segmentation is generated. Problematic
areas can be edited manually.

[022] - MirBSD Korn Shell R33d
  by mirabile (http://freshmeat.net/users/mirabile/)
  Sat, Apr 12th 2008 01:07

System :: Shells

About: The MirBSD Korn Shell (mksh) is an actively developed successor of
pdksh (the Public Domain Korn Shell), aimed at producing a shell good for
interactive use, but with the primary focus on scripting. It is intended
to be portable to most *nix-like operating systems as long as they're not
too obscure. mksh incorporates improvements from OpenBSD and Debian, as
well as bugfixes and enhancements developed for the MirOS, FreeWRT, and
MidnightBSD projects. The emacs command line editing mode is UTF-8
capable, and Byte Order Marks are ignored in scripts. The shell supports
large files, as well as all pdksh and some csh, AT&T ksh, and GNU bash
features, is compatible with the Bourne shell and POSIX (within limits),
has no limit on array sizes, and incorporates some other useful builtins
and features. While being already fast and small (without losing
functionality), flags to make it even smaller can be given at compile
time. An interactive shell reads "~/.mkshrc" on startup.

Changes: A tty's I/O is now flushed before using it when attaching mksh to
a different tty than the current terminal using "mksh -T". This fixes a
security problem where users could have already typed on some other
(previously unused) virtual console, and the shell would execute these
commands once spawned. The path to "ls" is no longer hard-coded in
dot.mkshrc.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: MuseScore is a graphical WYSIWYG music score typesetter. Notes are
entered on an "virtual note sheet". As notes are entered, the score is
immediately reformatted. It uses the LilyPond project's TrueType fonts.

Changes: This revision introduces a new harmony element used for chord
names, which allows for proper import and export to MusicXml. A new import
filter reads some "Band In A Box" files with proper display of chord names.
Scores can be transposed and a new function allows the creation of excerpts

[026] - NetMRG 0.20
  by Brady Alleman (http://freshmeat.net/users/balleman/)
  Sat, Apr 12th 2008 01:08

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: NetMRG is a network monitoring, reporting, and graphing system.
Using MySQL, PHP, C++, pthreads, and RRDTOOL, it is capable of monitoring
thousands of arbitrary values at user-configured intervals (typically 5
minutes). Graph templating allows network and system admins to begin
monitoring routers, switches, servers and other devices with minimal setup
overhead. NetMRG is also capable of responding to programmable events, such
as variables exceeding accepted tolerances. NetMRG can be deployed in
server hosting and ISP environments, allowing users to view only their own
equipment's bandwidth or traffic graphs.

Changes: Compilation under GCC 4.3 has been fixed. View pages have been
restructured to show graph titles for easier in-page searching. MySQL 5
compatibility has been fixed. Device properties, which keep track of
things like model and serial numbers have been added. The ability to chain
interfaces to travel between them and Ajax monitor selection for graphs
have been added.

Software Development :: Libraries

About: The NTLM library contains utilities for authenticating against
Microsoft servers that require NTLM authentication. The goal of this
project is to make libntlm easier to build (by using autoconf, automake,
and libtool) for use by other projects.

Changes: Minor gnulib fixes were made. This release is now declared
stable.

[028] - OpenDBX 1.3.7 (Development)
  by Norbert Sendetzky (http://freshmeat.net/users/nsendetzky/)
  Sat, Apr 12th 2008 17:50

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The OpenDBX libraries provide a unified and consistent API for
software developers to different database management systems. The C and
C++ libraries aim to implement access to the native database interfaces
efficiently via a thin abstraction layer. They consist of a basic set of
functions that are part of all vendor database libraries and can be
extended by additional function blocks. Currently, Firebird/Interbase, MS
SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQLite 2 and 3, and Sybase ASE are
supported.

Changes: Many improvements and bugfixes are included in this release and
it's recommended to all developers to upgrade to the latest version. The
existing odbx_result_free() is deprecated in favor of the new
odbx_result_finish(). Additionally, the C++ Stmt::bind() method of the API
was removed and the Stmt::escape() method was moved to the connection
object. It's now also possible to write data into large objects using the
Firebird and Oracle backends, but the Oracle LOB implementation doesn't
work at the moment.

[029] - pactester 1.0.7
  by Manu (http://freshmeat.net/users/manugarg/)
  Sat, Apr 12th 2008 01:11

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers

About: Pactester is a tool to test proxy auto-configuration (PAC) files.
PAC files are used by browsers to identify the correct proxy server for a
given URL. Since the PAC file evaluation mechanism is generated inside the
browser and cannot be accessed from outside, the only way to tell which
proxy your browser will use for a specific URL is manual inspection of the
PAC file. Unfortunately, this approach is error prone and quickly becomes
impractical for large and complex PAC files. Pactester resolves this issue
by simulating browser behavior.

Changes: A new option was added for specifying client IP address (as
returned by myIpAddress).

[030] - Paludis 0.26.0_pre1

  Sat, Apr 12th 2008 18:06

System :: Software Distribution
System :: Software Distribution Tools

About: Paludis is a package management library that works with Gentoo
style ebuilds, together with a simple console client. It is entirely
independent of Portage.

Changes: paludis now rebuilds the VDB names and provides caches
incrementally after each install and uninstall. This can give a
significant speed-up, but it makes it more important to run paludis
--regenerate-installed-cache after installing or removing a package with
portage, as this will no longer be done automatically. This also changes
the format of the provides cache, so you will need to run paludis
--regenerate-installed-cache once after upgrading. paludis now uses
${builddir}/${CATEGORY}-${PF} instead of ${builddir}/${CATEGORY}/${PF} as
a temporary build directory.

  Sat, Apr 12th 2008 17:33

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: html2ps is a PHP equivalent of the popular Perl script by the same
name that accurately converts HTML with images, complex tables (including
rowspan/colspan), layers/divs, and CSS styles to Postscript and PDF.
Unlike most other HTML2PS/HTML2PDF converters, it offers good CSS 2.1
support and is very tolerant to non-valid HTML. It can convert even
CSS-intense sites like aol.com and msn.com.

Changes: Space could be added after some non-whitespace symbols
immediately followed by inline boxes. Under certain circumstances, custom
characters were ignored in CSS3 margin box content. Some temporary files
were not removed when using the fpdf output method. All of these problems
have been fixed.
