[003] - Backup Manager 0.7.7 (Development)
  by Alexis SUKRIEH (http://freshmeat.net/users/sukria/)
  Mon, Apr 14th 2008 17:03

About: Backup Manager is a tool for generating archives easily. It is
designed for those who don't want an obfuscated tool for backing up their
system. It can make tar, tar.gz, tar.bz2, and zip archives, can perform
incremental backups, and can upload archives to remote hosts with FTP,
SSH, or RSYNC. It can be run in a parallel mode with different
configuration files. The configuration file is simple to understand. The
backup process can also be customized thanks to hook scripts.

Changes: This release fixes 15 known bugs found in version 0.7.6. It
provides a security fix (password disclosure in FTP uploads) and a new
major feature: the ability for the user to adjust the niceness of
processes executed by backup-manager (useful for desktop users). A couple
of bugs about incremental archives are fixed too.

[013] - flashdist 20080413
  by Chris Cappuccio (http://freshmeat.net/users/chrisc/)
  Mon, Apr 14th 2008 00:40

System :: Installation/Setup

About: Flashdist is an embedded OpenBSD installer for flash disks, hard
disks, and pseudo disks. It keeps the entire system mounted read-only
during normal operation for minimal chance of failure. It installs an
entire set of system utilities and manual pages (targeted towards
networking features) in less than 32MB of disk or flash space. The
distribution list can be customized to target other applications, or to
use even less space.

Changes: /etc/rc was fixed so that /dev/log is created again. (This was
broken in the /dev mfs move as of flashdist 2007/11/05.) "ro" and "rw"
scripts are now installed for easy writability while booted on flash. Past
versions of growimg.sh wrote only to a new vnd image. The script now
supports the use of any attached disk as a target. It writes directly to
flash during file-by-file transfer. Thus, growimg now runs as quickly as
flashdist itself.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Raster-Based
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: Fotox is a program for improving digital photos. It allows you to
navigate through large image directories using a window of thumbnail
images, create HDR (high dynamic range) images by combining bright and
dark images to improve details visible in both bright and dark areas.,
create panoramas by joining overlapped images, adjust brightness and color
intensity independently for different underlying brightness levels, reduce
fog or haze by removing "whiteness" and intensifying colors, rotate an
image (level a tilted image or turn 90 degrees), remove red-eyes from
electronic flash photos, sharpen, resize, or crop images, reduce noise in
low-light photos, change color depth, and stretch an image by dragging the
mouse.

Changes: The image sharpen algorithm has been improved, and results are
slightly better. A clone button was added to enable multiple active
images. The "horizon" used for unbending panoramas (or changing
perspective) is now movable with the mouse.

[016] - FrobTADS 0.11 (Interpreter)
  by Nikos Chantziaras (http://freshmeat.net/users/realnc/)
  Mon, Apr 14th 2008 17:15

Games/Entertainment

About: FrobTADS is a complete rewrite of the Unix console-version of TADS
("Text Adventure Development System"). It uses curses (or ncurses) and
provides an interpreter to play games developed with TADS as well as the
TADS 2 and 3 development tools. It adds support for a number of relatively
recent user interface features including full support for text and
background colors, TADS 3 banner windows, and timed input. It's also much
more portable and more easily maintainable, as it's built to modern Unix
standards.

Changes: TADS has been updated to 3.0.16. Embedding resources in Tads 3
game files (like a GameInfo.txt) was broken; in the case of the
GameInfo.txt resource, this resulted in third-party tools like Babel and
Zoom not being able to read this resource. This has been fixed.

  by Ron Burkey (http://freshmeat.net/users/rburkey/)
  Mon, Apr 14th 2008 07:33

About: I'm Cross! is a script that installs a C/C++ cross-compiler
toolchain that targets Microsoft Windows on a developer's Linux
workstation. Additionally, it installs cross-compiled versions of various
libraries, such as wxWidgets, GTK+, PCRE, libxml2, zlib, and pthreads-w32.
This is an easy way to set up a Linux workstation to simultaneously build
Linux and Windows executables from the same source tree. Finally, it
provides sample programs for each supported library, to illustrate how one
can write and compile cross-platform code using these libraries.

Changes: Some prerequisites for GTK+ and libxml2 were missing, and have
been added. A helpful link for pthreads-w32 has been added. Information
has been added about installation of multiple versions of wxWidgets.

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: Metabase is a DBMS-independent PHP API to access SQL databases. It
supports MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL server, Microsoft
Access, ODBC, Interbase, Informix, MiniSQL, and SQLite. It supports nested
transactions, blobs, and prepared queries. It can install database schemas
defined in a DBMS independent XML format that describe tables, indexes,
primary keys, and auto-increment sequences. It is also able to upgrade a
database to a new schema without affecting the data that was stored since
it was installed or upgraded for the last time. There is also schema
reverse engineering support.

Changes: This release adds support for nested transactions, i.e.
transactions that can be started when another transaction is already in
progress. The database schema XML parser portability was enhanced to
disallow more table and field names that are reserved words in several
types of databases. Several minor bugs were fixed.

[024] - mOOo Impress Controller 0.5
  by lucastorri (http://freshmeat.net/users/lucastorri/)
  Mon, Apr 14th 2008 07:44

Home Automation

About: mOOo Impress Controller is a set of tools used to control slides
presentations on OpenOffice.org Impress. It consists of a Java ME
application (mobile) and a Java SE Add-On (desktop) that is installed in
OOo (OpenOffice.org). The user can switch slides (next and previous) while
a timer (used for presentation controlling) is displayed on the screen of
the mobile device. It uses Bluetooth for Computer-Device communication
with Project Marge and UNO API for OOo integration.

Changes: mOOo Impress Controller was rebuilt to work on OpenOffice.org
2.3. In the last version, there was a known problem caused by an extension

[030] - OpenEJB 3.0
  by David Blevins (http://freshmeat.net/users/dblevins/)
  Mon, Apr 14th 2008 17:06

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Object Brokering :: CORBA

About: OpenEJB is a simple, lightweight Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB)
container and server. You can embed OpenEJB in your own applications, or
in a Web application server like Tomcat, or run it as a standalone EJB
server. It supports EJB 3.0, 2.1, 2.0, and 1.1.

Changes: This release includes several improvements and refinements over
the very successful 3.0 beta 2 release. Dependency injection has had a
major boost with support for Java Generics and Enums. A dozen new
validations makes it even harder to do something "wrong". JPA users will
find it nearly impossible to misconfigure the jta-data-source and
non-jta-data-source. More robust EJB references allow for circular and
lazy references to ejbs in other ears. Deep levels of annotation
inheritance are completely respected, allowing for greater design control
and less duplicate code.

source tree. It can understand various program file formats and version
control histories like mercurial, bazaar, SCCS, RCS, CVS, or Subversion.
In other words, it lets you grok (profoundly understand) the source.

Changes: Lots of bugs have been fixed. This includes duplicate magics in
the analyzers. IOExceptions are no longer thrown when viewing history for
xref root in a multi-project installation. The indexer uses the value
specified with -m now. The option to disable index optimization upon
indexing is now available. Links have been created to account details in
annotate mode. Directory names can contain a plus (+) character now.
Subtrees can be reindexed. The index can be optimized without reindexing.
URL friendly project handling has been added. Double-colons in a search
pattern no longer throw an error.

[033] - Pantheios 1.0.1 beta 121
  by Dr Proctor (http://freshmeat.net/users/DrProctor/)
  Mon, Apr 14th 2008 17:12

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Logging

About: Pantheios is a C/C++ logging API library. It offers an optimal
combination of complete type-safety, very high efficiency, genericity, and
extensibility. It is simple to use and extend, highly portable (platform
and compiler independent), and it upholds the C tradition of only paying
for what you use. Pantheios supports logging of message statements of
arbitrary complexity, consisting of heterogenous types. Pantheios supports
filtering of log messages based on severity level.

Changes: The main change is the addition of the pantheios::hostId inserter
class, and its supporting utility functions: this allows the host name to
be easily inserted into a logging statement. There were also various minor
back-end fixes and refactorings. This version of the library bundles xTests
0.5.1, and requires STLSoft 1.9.31.

Database
Information Management
Scientific/Engineering

About: WDB is a weather data storage system for storage of weather and
water observations, forecasts, analysis fields, and models. The system
should be compatible with the meteorological standards BUFR and GRIB
(version 1 and 2). In addition to generic loading programs, WDB also
features a flexible retrieval interface for retrieving weather data in
time series or entire fields. WDB is built using PostgreSQL extended with
PostGIS.

Changes: This release fixes some problems in the GRIB loading software
that occurred when the system attempted to load files with an unknown grid
definition.

[054] - WebGraph 2.2
  by Sebastiano Vigna (http://freshmeat.net/users/vigna/)
  Mon, Apr 14th 2008 05:08

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: WebGraph is a framework for studying web graphs. It provides simple
methods for managing very large graphs by exploiting modern compression
techniques.

Changes: Pointers to the graph bitstream are now stored using the succinct
Elias-Fano representation from Sux4J. This is more than half the memory
footprint of typical web graphs.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development :: Embedded Systems

About: Wt is a C++ library for developing Web applications with an API
that is widget-centric and inspired by existing C++ graphical user
interface APIs. To the developer, it offers complete abstraction of any
Web-specific implementation details. Under the hood, the library uses the
latest techniques (AJAX) to handle user events and update the Web page.

Changes: A number of regression problems introduced in 2.1.1 were fixed.
The paint system was improved with VML rendering that is compatible with
standards-compliant mode DOCTYPE, improved support for inline SVG in Opera
using proper XHTML DOM manipulation, and the addition of save(), restore(),
viewport/window, and drawImage() API calls, support for a cosmetic pen, and
minor bugfixes. A WSlider widget was added, based on the painting API.
Support for boost 1.35 was added.
