[002] - Andy's PHP Knowledgebase 0.91
by KeyMonkey (http://freshmeat.net/users/keymonkey/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 22:03
About: Andy's PHP Knowledgebase is a database-driven knowledge base
management system. It features bookmark friendly URLs, easy search with
browsing with article tags, article submission, and a professional and
attractive interface. It is intended to be used to store, manage, and
update article content for a knowledge base, but is very customizable and
enables any number of creative uses.
Changes: This release fixes the kbadmin's 'view all articles', improves
the author's 'article list', and includes some minor changes in formating
and placement in the template and index page.

[003] - Another File Integrity Checker 2.11
by Gerbier Eric (http://freshmeat.net/users/gerbier/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 03:54
Security
System :: Systems Administration
About: afick is another file integrity checker, designed to be fast and
fully portable between Unix and Windows platforms. It works by first
creating a database that represents a snapshot of the most essential parts
of your computer system. You can then run the script to discover all
modifications made since the snapshot was taken (i.e. files added,
changed, or removed). The configuration syntax is very close to that of
aide or tripwire, and a graphical interface is provided.
Changes: On Windows, the batch task (afick_planning) can now send the
report by mail, if the MAILTO and MAILHOST macros are configured in the
configuration file.

by Marc A. Lehmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcg1/)

Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
About: AnyEvent provides an identical interface to multiple event loops.
This allows module authors to utilize an event loop without forcing module
users to use the same event loop (as only a single event loop can coexist
peacefully at any one time). The interface itself is vaguely similar but
not identical to the Event module. On the first call of any method, the
module tries to detect the currently loaded event loop by probing for an
already-loaded event loop, such as Glib or Event. The first one found is
used. If none is found, the module tries to load an event module.
Changes: The one-watcher per fd/poll limitation has been lifted by a new
Tk backend that works around the many bugs in Tk. Support for the EV event
loop (and the Coro::EV module) has been added, and is by far the fastest
choice available for AnyEvent now. PID watchers are no longer autoreset
and can be used to watch for any child exit. The documentation has been
extended and clarified, and all backends now have a (simple) man page.

Wed, Apr 16th 2008 17:12
System :: Diagnostics
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: Bartlby is a network and system monitor, completely written in C,
to provide a scalable framework with the ability to monitor networks of
various sizes. It consists of a core daemon, several plugins, and a Web
GUI (PHP extension). The core daemon checks (over active/passive TCP)
services/hosts and notifies users in case of critical service conditions
(mail, SMS, ICQ, and custom triggers are supported). Bartlby provides an
open plugin interface to give every administrator an easy to use option to
extend the plugin base, and a fully customizable GUI (written in PHP using
a C extension). Nearby everything can be controlled via an XML interface.
Changes: This release has some major code houskeeping and a ton of fixes.
A few key features have been added like the re-notification and the new
role of the standby worker. A new extension allows your operations center
to manage the whole on-call schedule and create reports of activities over
the weekend (OcL).

[009] - blindRSS 0.2
by blindCoder (http://freshmeat.net/users/blindcoder/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 04:10
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: blindRSS is a very simple browser-operated RSS reader. You can
click through the feeds in a sidebar, use the (hopefully self-explanatory)
icons next to them to manipulate them, and do all the other stuff a RSS
reader should do. It's programmed so that the feeds are reread by a
cronjob or daemon, while as much functionality as possible is done within
the client. Thus, the server only serves the data, not the markup.
Changes: The possibility to mark all entries in a feed as read was added.
Some bugs were fixed.

Communications
Internet
About: BlogBridge is a new kind of Blog reader. It is designed to allow
non-technical users to discover, follow, and enjoy literally hundreds of
RSS feeds without losing their minds.
Changes: A template editor can be used when posting to a blog. A feature
to discover other blogs was added. Sentiment analysis and an image blocker
were implemented. Improvements were made to feed parsing, polling of huge
subscriptions, rendering of images in articles, article headers, OPML
export, and image caching performance. The Cleanup Wizard when a guide is
selected and repopulating saved del.icio.us tags were fixed. Many cosmetic
improvements and performance optimizations were made.

by Steven (http://freshmeat.net/users/stevenshiau/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 03:04
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
About: Clonezilla is a partition or disk cloning tool similar to Symantec
Ghost. It saves and restores only blocks in use on the hard drive if the
file system is supported. For unsupported file systems, dd is used
instead. It has been used to clone a 5 GB system to 40 clients in about 10
minutes.
Changes: The xfsdump and lscpi packages were added. Linux kernel
2.6.24-etchnhalf.1-486 is used now. The auto login account now is "user",
and the password is "live". For live USB, there is no longer a prompt to
eject boot media before rebooting or halting. A bug about restoring swap
partition in a partition number greater than 10 was fixed.

[012] - Coro 4.51
by Marc A. Lehmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcg1/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 13:27
Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
About: Coro is a package providing both low-level coroutines as well as a
high-level multitasking abstraction on top of Perl. It allows you to
parallelize LWP and other network protocols with ease. Unlike the
so-called "Perl threads/fork emulation", they provide a real shared
address space (like real threads) without the associated race conditions
and performance loss, while maintaining a very low memory overhead
(2-3kb/coroutine). The package comes with examples and many supporting
modules.
Changes: This release is fully Perl 5.10 compatible (and lifts some of the
restrictions present in older Perl releases). Coroutine memory size has
been reduced to less than 3kb including stacks on 32-bit machines. A new
event backend, Coro::EV, is available. Coro::Util can take advantage of
EV::ADNS for asynchronous DNS resolution. Coro::Debug allows backtraces,
runtime tracing, code injection, and more, and offers an interactive shell
that works out of the box in event-based programs, even for non-coroutine
programs. Coro::BDB supports async Berkeley DB access. Many bugs have been
fixed.

About: Covered is a Verilog code coverage utility that reads in a Verilog
design and a generated VCD/LXT dumpfile from that design and generates a
coverage file that can be merged with other coverage files or used to
create a coverage report. Covered also contains the GUI coverage report
utility that reads in a coverage file to allow interactive coverage

Utilities
About: datapacker is a tool to group files by size such that they fill
fixed-size containers (called "bins") using the minimum number of
containers. This is useful, for instance, if you want to archive a number
of files to CD or DVD, and want to organize them such that you use the
minimum possible number of CDs or DVDs. In many cases, datapacker executes
almost instantaneously. Of particular note, the hardlink action can be used
to effectively copy data into bins without having to actually copy the data
at all. datapacker is a tool in the traditional Unix style; it can be used
in pipes and call other tools.

[017] - deco archive file extractor 0.7
by P. Hartlich (http://freshmeat.net/users/phartlich/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 03:19
System :: Archiving
About: deco is a generic archive file extractor that has a consistent
command line interface ("deco 1.tar.bz2 2.zip 3.flac 4.rar 5.deb" will
just work) and consistent behavior (it never deletes archives after
extraction, extracts relative to the current working directory, and
extracts just verbosely enough, all unless explicitly requested
otherwise). It provides automatic handling of extractor gotchas by
creating an extraction directory if there is more than one file or
directory at the archive top level and by being able to fix strange
permissions. Dozens of archive file extensions are supported out of the
box, and adding support for others requires very little work.
Changes: For extracting RPM archives, rpm2cpio from the official rpm
package is now used, when available. The $always_into_subdir variable was
added, used in the rpm and deb extractor wrappers, which causes the
contents of archive.foo to always be put into a new archive/ directory
(even if archive.foo contains only a single entry at its top level).
Archives containing very many files are extracted a little faster.

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Multi-User Dungeons (MUD)
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: Deliantra is an advancement of the crossfire multi-user RPG game.
Unlike the original project, it focuses mainly on stability and
playability, but also adds modern technology such as map scripting, Perl
server extensions, asynchronous I/O, higher resolution graphics, and
better client support.
Changes: The currency system has been refactored: 1 gold coin is now worth
100 silver coins, 1 platinum coin is worth 100 gold coins, and 1 royalty is
worth 100 platinum coins. The uuid (object ID) file format has been changed
and is written asynchronously now, fixing possible hiccups in the server.
Refactoring and cleanup of memory management in the random map generator,
fixing a minor memory leak. Converters no longer accept unpaid items,
preventing exploitation of possible bugs in shops. There are many minor
refactorings and cleanups all over the server code and archetypes.

Wed, Apr 16th 2008 08:18
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: fastutil extends the Java Collections Framework by providing
type-specific maps, sets, lists, and queues for Java with a small memory
footprint and fast access and insertion; it also includes a fast I/O API
for binary and text files. The classes implement their standard
counterpart interfaces (e.g., Map for maps) and can be plugged into
existing code. Besides the usual features, fastutil provides
reference-based containers (which do not use equals() to compare objects)
and linked structures. Most iterators provided by fastutil classes are
bidirectional, or even implement the standard list iterator interface.

by Allo (http://freshmeat.net/users/laxu/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 17:01
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: Flow is a 2-dimensional brainfuck-like language with threads. The
instruction pointer flows like water, and splits into "threads" when there
is more than one direction in the 2D code.
Changes: Initial release with the tools: bf2graph (converts a bf program
to a graphviz dot file), bf2aa (merges ASCII art with a brainfuck
program), bfgen (converts text to a program that prints the text), and
bf.pl (a small and slow brainfuck interpreter in Perl).

[029] - GNU Common C++ 1.6.2
by David Sugar (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidsugar/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 21:20
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Common C++ is a highly portable C++ class library meant primarily
for the development of portable threaded applications. Support is provided
both for POSIX platforms and native builds under Win32. The goal is to
provide a truly common C++ framework for writing portable threaded
applications that do not require a huge amount of runtime overhead to
support, and hence can make C++ and threads suitable even for the
development of trivial servers and applications.
Changes: Changes were made for "make-in-place" and mingw32 build support.
Updates were made for compressed streams, Win32 support, serial, recent
gcc changes, and gnutls support.

[030] - GNU SIP Witch 0.1.0
by David Sugar (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidsugar/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 21:59
Communications :: Telephony
Office/Business
Security
About: GNU SIP Witch is a pure SIP-based office telephone call server that
supports generic phone system features like call forwarding, hunt groups
and call distribution, call coverage and ring groups, holding, and call
transfer, as well as offering SIP specific capabilities such as presence
and messaging. It supports secure telephone extensions for making calls

extensions. It is not a SIP proxy, a multi-protocol telephone server, or an
IP-PBX, and does not try to emulate Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, or Yate.
Changes: This initial release supports SIP registration, multi-target
registration, authentication peering over SIP, registration querying of
user agents, basic call processing between registered user agents
including call distribution for multi-target registrations, and basic SIP
instant messaging.

[031] - HTTP Anti Virus Proxy 0.88
by havp (http://freshmeat.net/users/havp/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 03:53
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: HAVP (HTTP Anti Virus Proxy) is a proxy which scans downloads for
viruses with several scanners (ClamAV, F-Prot, Kaspersky, NOD32, Sophos)
at the same time. The main aims are continuous, non-blocking downloads and
smooth scanning of dynamic and password protected HTTP traffic. It can be
used with squid or standalone, and it also supports transparent proxy
mode.
Changes: ClamAV library 0.93 is supported (recompilation is needed, and
the CLAMMAXSCANSIZE option was added). CLAMMAXFILESIZE default is now
100MB. A random seed issue (in which ClamAV generated some temporary file
errors) was fixed. DISABLELOCKINGFOR config was added, which fixes ZIP
handling in ClamAV 0.93. Arcavir version 2008 support was added. Log
scanner errors are sent to the errorlog. SSL/CONNECT port limits were
relaxed. (It is not recommended to use --enable-ssl-tunnel, since Squid
should be used instead.)

[032] - iDMC 2.0.9
by Antonio, Fabio Di Narzo (http://freshmeat.net/users/antoniofabio/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 07:03
Education
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
About: iDMC is user-friendly software for the simulation and analysis of
non-linear models. It was designed both as a teaching and research tool,
and is very easy to use (a users guide is available). Numerical
calculations are performed on models included in the package, or any model
formulated by the user and easily encoded (a few lines with no compilation
necessary). The Java graphical user interface provides fast generation of
graphical data of good quality, which can be saved as .png files. Hard
computational tasks are delegated to a separate, small C library.
Changes: The core idmclib was upgraded to version 0.9.0. This fixes a
numerical bug affecting computation of Lyapunov exponents of systems with
no jacobian. A minor bug affecting plotting of trajectories with manual
chart bounds was fixed.

[033] - IO::AIO 2.61
by Marc A. Lehmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcg1/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 13:28
Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
About: IO::AIO implements fully asynchronous I/O (not non-blocking I/O)
that lets your program stay in control and interactive even when doing
heavy disk (or other) I/O. It provides asynchronous versions of read(),
write(), open(), stat(), unlink(), rename(), utime(), readlink(), and most
other standard syscalls as well as interfaces to sendfile(), readahead(),
and other esoteric syscalls, complete with emulation on systems that don't
support them. It also offers convenience functions to load whole files and
more. It fits naturally into any event loop model, supports 9 priorities
and request grouping.
Changes: aio_sync and aio_pathsync requests have been added. The treescan
output has been fixed to not output duplicate names. aio_close uses a
faster and better algorithm. The thread stack sizes have been decreased to
allow more threads on machines without much virtual memory.

by JPOX (http://freshmeat.net/users/jpox/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 07:01
Database
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: JPOX provides transparent persistence of Java objects. It fully
complies with the JDO1.0/JDO2.0/JDO2.1/JPA1 specifications. It supports
persistence to all of the major RDBMSs on the market today, as well as
DB4O. It allows querying using JDOQL, SQL, or JPQL. It comes with its own
byte-code enhancer. Its 1.1 release is Sun's "Reference Implementation"
(RI) for JDO2.0, and its 1.2 release is the RI for JDO2.1. It is highly
extensible, using OSGi technology and providing a wide range of
value-adding plugins.
Changes: A bug in value generation was fixed. The specification of
persistence properties was rewritten to allow future flexibility. A
timestamp value generator was added. An option was added to SchemaTool to
support package.jdo in jar files. Bugs were fixed in the plugin registry
for Oracle AS and WebSphere. Support was added for common DB4O properties.
Support for Informix was improved. A bug was fixed with non-tx use of
queries. RDBMS support was changed to default to using connection pooling
if in CLASSPATH.

[036] - JSON::XS 2.2
by Marc A. Lehmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcg1/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 13:31
Communications
Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: JSON::XS implements JSON for Perl. Unlike other modules, its
primary goal is to encode to syntactically correct JSON and flag invalid
JSON while decoding. It ensures round-trip integrity of data types while
being intuitive to use. Currently being the fastest of the JSON encoders
available for Perl, it supports a variety of format options, such as
single-line, ASCII-only, or pretty-printed, and can be tuned for speed or
memory usage. It comes with a wealth of documentation describing usage and
implementation details.
Changes: Versions beginning with 2.01 act as a backend for JSON; the JSON
module will automatically use JSON::XS when it is available, and should
otherwise fall back to a fully-compatible pure Perl implementation. A very
fast incremental parser has been added that can be used (among other
things) to parse self-delimited JSON streams. Boolean values returned by
decode are now mutable, and the restriction of having to use powers of two
for resource limits has been lifted. A command line utility has been added
that can pretty-print JSON and convert from/to a number of other formats.

System :: Boot
About: kexec-loader is a Linux-based bootloader that aims to fit on a
floppy and have a grub-like interface and configuration system. It loads
kernels using the kexec system calls.
Changes: Directives for creating devices were removed; inodes for all
devices should be included with the initramfs. mkinitramfs.sh was
redesigned to create a CPIO archive and to use fakeroot if the script is
not being run as root. A separate debug console and /proc/kmsg monitor
were added. Support was added for detecting ext2, ext3, XFS, ReiserFS,
minix, FAT, and NTFS filesystem types. The list_devices() function was
implemented; pressing L at the menu displays a list of all devices listed
in /proc/diskstats.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
System :: Networking
About: Libev is a high-performance event loop for C (with optional and
separate interfaces for C++ and Perl), featuring support for I/O, timers
(relative and absolute, cron-like ones), signals, process status changes,
and other types of events. It has both a fast native API and libevent
emulation to support programs written using the libevent API. The libev
distribution consists of libevent with the core event handling parts
replaced by the libev embedded event loop. Differences to libevent include
higher speed, simpler design, more features, less memory usage,
embedability, and no arbitrary limits. libev supports epoll, kqueue,
Solaris event ports, poll, and select.
Changes: This release supports Linux's eventfd, which decreases ev_async
latency considerably (as well as signal latencies). Support for inotify
and epoll will be autodetected in the absence of autoconf (makes embedding
easier). A number of small bugfixes have been applied, as well as a number
of workarounds for valgrind bugs.

by Clemens Wacha (http://freshmeat.net/users/reflex2000/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 01:52
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Office/Business
Utilities
About: PHP iAddressBook is a Web-based address book for a single user. It
supports personal or business cards (tons of fields), spotlight-like
search, categories, transparent vCard import/export, multi-language
support, design templates, and an intuitive interface. It aims at 100%
compatibility with the AddressBook in Mac OS X.
Changes: Contact photos are no longer saved inside the database but in a
separate folder. Photo export in vCards was fixed for Apple AddressBook in
Mac OS X. The search field and sort function were improved. Names beginning
with non-ASCII characters (like öäüéèà) are now sorted correctly. The edit
template was improved. Adding details such as phone numbers as well as
custom labels is now much fancier than ever before. Birthday reminders, a
"Remember Me" feature, and vCard mass import through the filesystem were
added. Slovak, Russian, Czech, Swedish, and Indonesian translations were
added.

[060] - PHP MIME Mail decoder class 2008.04.15
by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 04:01
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: PHP MIME Mail decoder class is a PHP class to parse and decode MIME
email messages. It supports decoding single RFC 2822 MIME messages or
archives that aggregate multiple messages in the mbox format. It can
decode messages read from files or data strings. The bodies of multipart
messages can be decoded into distinct sub-messages. Optionally, the
message body data can be saved to separate files, so the class can handle
messages larger than the available memory. The parser can tolerate some
syntax errors in malformed messages that are not compliant with RFC 2822.
Changes: The message structure Analyze function was made tolerant to
signed messages with unrecognized types of signatures. It can also
recognize certain forms of PKCS-7 signatures.

[070] - Strasheela 0.9.5
by Torsten Anders (http://freshmeat.net/users/tanders/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 17:06
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
About: Strasheela is a highly expressive constraint-based music
composition system. Users declaratively state a music theory and the
computer generates music which complies with this theory. A theory is
formulated as a constraint satisfaction problem (CSP) by a set of rules
(constraints) applied to a music representation in which some aspects are
expressed by variables (unknowns). Music constraint programming is
style-independent and is well-suited for highly complex theories (e.g. a
fully-fledged theory of harmony). Results can be output into various
formats including MIDI, Lilypond, and Csound.
Changes: This release enhances Strasheela's capabilities for outputting
microtonal music into sound synthesis formats such as Csound or MIDI. The
actual playback pitch of notes can be defined by tuning tables, which are
similar to the scale format of Scala. New examples demonstrate different
approaches for creating MIDI files for microtonal music.

[071] - Stunnix C and C++ Obfuscator 3.1
by Stunnix (http://freshmeat.net/users/stunnix/)
Wed, Apr 16th 2008 13:32
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Pre-processors
System :: Software Distribution
About: Stunnix CXX-Obfus is a code obfuscator for C and C++ source code.
It converts source code into highly a mangled form, making it extremely
difficult for competitors or customers to study, analyze, reuse, and
re-work, while fully retaining functionality of the original code. It has
many options to control all aspects of code hiding, and has full support
for all syntax constructs. It is designed for multi-file projects with
mixed C and C++ source and arbitrary heavy use of the C preprocessor. It
includes advanced tools to exclude API symbols from mangling.
Changes: Protection modes can be selected by choosing the sample piece of
code protected with particular mode. The "results of obfuscation" screen
now has shortcuts for redoing all project-specific operations. A native
bundle has been created for Mac OS X. Many other improvements in the
Project Manager GUI have been introduced.
