Thu, Apr 17th 2008 13:27

Multimedia :: Graphics
Scientific/Engineering :: Geographical

photos as if they were normal photos by specifying the flickr:// protocol,
followed by the photo ID, or flickr://set/ followed by the set name or ID.
This release detects whether Exiftool is available and tells the user when
this isn't the case. It reads faster, using the TBP by default (can be
suppressed with the --exiftool switch). It is easier to save settings, by
specifying -s on the command line. Photo reading, writing, and thumbnail
generation are now multi-threaded (and thus multicore on SMP operating
systems).

filesystems with multiple spindles.

Changes: A major change was made to support tar, star, gtar, cp, and unzip
to get ctime and mtime right. Wrappers have been updated, so that they
don't override predefined settings. Additionally, support for setting a
log file has been added.

 Thu, Apr 17th 2008 04:45

Communications
Desktop Environment
Software Development

About: NoMachine NX is a fast terminal server and desktop virtualization
system based on the X11 protocol. NX is an order of magnitude faster than
VNC or X11 and can run on bandwidth as narrow as 10 kBit/sec. In addition,
NX translates and embeds the MS Windows Terminal Server and VNC protocols
into X/NX, enabling users to compress and accelerate remote Windows and
VNC sessions. The NX project provides a suite of libraries and X11
proxying agents implementing efficient compression and optimized transport
of X11, SMB, IPP, HTTP, and arbitrary protocols like audio and video over
the Internet.

Changes: This package provides fixes to the Node setup procedure on
Solaris and ships the latest versions of NX Core components, solving a
number of problems. Among the issues that have been fixed are possible
decoding failures causing the sudden disconnection of the session, a
problem where copy and paste from a client desktop into an NX session
doesn't work via the edit menu, an issue where some German characters may
have be missing in copy and paste operations, and a problem where the
auto-disconnect feature didn't work if the screen saver was on.

[031] - ns4 4.0(10)
 by Chris Mason (http://freshmeat.net/users/chrimaso/)
 Thu, Apr 17th 2008 09:22

Utilities

About: ns4 is a configuration management tool which allows the automated
backup of just about anything, but it was designed for routers and
switches. If you are able to log into it through a CLI, you can back it
up. Commands are defined within a configuration file, and when they are
executed, the output is sent to a series of FTP servers for archiving. As
well as archiving configurations, it allows scripts to be run on nodes;
this allows configurations to be applied en masse and allows conditional
logic so different bits of scripts are run on different nodes.

Changes: This version introduces support for nodes connected to terminal
server lines via the console port. This is done through the
"pre_login_seq" cartridge attribute and the use of the "\cC" break
sequence, which has been added to the pre/post cartridge options.

 Thu, Apr 17th 2008 04:37

Software Development :: Bug Tracking
Software Development :: Version Control

About: PureCM is an integrated version control and defect tracking tool.
Based on the concept of changesets that represent tasks, it provides
developers with an easy to use and highly transparent GUI to improve
teamwork. It outperforms most other SCM tools, uses a reliable
transactional database, and is scalable to thousands of concurrent
developers. The server, GUI, command line, and Web clients runs on
Windows, Linux, Unix, and Mac OS.

Changes: The enhancements in this release aim to make the tool faster and
easier to use. They include keyboard support across the tool and the
ability to submit changes directly from the workspace. The latter speeds
up work where you have many changes pending by launching the submit dialog
for all change sets at once. Furthermore, PureCM now supports undo of
individual changes from the file history. This is particularly useful if
you want to reverse a single change, leaving earlier or later changes to
that file untouched.

 by Dagobert Michelsen (http://freshmeat.net/users/dagobert/)
 Thu, Apr 17th 2008 04:46

Software Development :: Libraries

About: The recode library converts files between character sets and
usages. The library recognises or produces nearly 150 different character
sets and is able to transliterate files between almost any pair. When
exact transliteration are not possible, it may get rid of the offending
characters or fall back on approximations. Most RFC 1345 character sets
are supported. The recode program is a handy front-end to the library.

Changes: The name has been changed from 'Free recode' to 'Recode'. The
libiconv library is no longer included. A bug wit losing a few characters
here and there when recoding big files in the iconv context seems to have
been corrected. Installation now uses Python. 'make check' accepts a
LIMIT= option for limiting tests to one or a few cases. PO files have been
updated from the Translation Project.

 Thu, Apr 17th 2008 10:20

Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks

About: SWAMP is a workflow processing platform in which the workflow is
designed in an XML based language in one file which is read by the SWAMP
server. It avoids hardcoding business logic, and workflows can be built
from different workflow "patterns" like simple actions, decisions,
selections, loops, and custom code. The SWAMP server automatically creates
a Web GUI from the workflow definition file that guides users through the
business logic process based on their roles. Notification is sent if
required. Overview pages over all running workflows and much more are
available.

Changes: The included libraries have been updated. Display of single
milestones can be enabled/disabled. Support has been added for Tomcat 6.
There is smarter cache handling when reloading workflow definitions. An
API for changing role memberships has been added. There is a filter for >
and >l; comparison of data bits (useful for date ranges). In Webswamp,
users can set the page to which they want to be redirected after doing a
task.
