[001] - 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons Character Generator 4.1
by Slicer (http://freshmeat.net/users/slicer/)
Wed, Apr 23rd 2008 21:14
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons Character Generator is an
HTML/JavaScript Web page that allows the user to quickly and easily create
new Dungeons and Dragons characters. The characters can be of any of the
eleven classes, any of the playable races, and may start at any level from
1 to 220. Generation requires some simple input, after which the character
is displayed on a basic character sheet. It allows you to select your
starting stats, add ability points, and pick skills, equipment, feats, and
spells. It runs on most operating systems with most modern browsers.
Changes: A bug was fixed where a Ranger with either the Two Weapon or
Archery combat style could not select feats based on having one of those
styles. Specifically, this allows Rangers to be treated as having either
Two Weapon Fighting or Rapid Shot.

[002] - ACE 5.6.4 (Development)
by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
Wed, Apr 23rd 2008 21:29
Software Development :: Libraries
About: The ADAPTIVE Communication Environment (ACE) is an object-oriented
(OO) C++ framework that helps you develop and deploy high-performance
networked applications faster and with less code to write and maintain.
ACE is especially useful for systems that use network and/or inter-process
communications and that take advantage of multithreading. While the ACE
source code is free, that's not the only way you save money with ACE.
ACE's wrappers and higher-level patterns help you develop your software
quickly and portably, helping you to complete your projects on time and
within budget.
Changes: Autoconf support was improved. Support for AIX with gcc, OpenVMS,
and VxWorks was improved. Service Context Handling has been made pluggable.
CORBA/e support was improved and its memory footprint was reduced. The
ability to remove proxies and admins through the Notify Monitor and
Control interface was added. The Interface Repository's IOR output file
was changed from being world writable to using ACE_DEFAULT_FILE_PERMS.
Support was added for a location forward with a nil object reference.
Numerous bugs were fixed.

Database
Documentation
Information Management
About: AgileWiki is meant to create software systems which are fluid,
easily configured and can be reorganized on-the-fly to meet ever changing
requirements. It includes a COW-based database, the Rolonics programming
paradigm, and semantic inferencing.
Changes: Scripts containing only query commands are run as a query,
increasing throughput on busy servers. Comments are now supported and
preserved in the transaction Rolon. The rbacklinks command now displays
the Rolons containing the link to the selected Rolon as well as having an
optional argument for selecting backlinks by CSec name. A new command,
backlinkCSecs, identifies the Classifier Sections containing links to the
selected Rolon.

[004] - amavisd-new 2.6.0
by Mark Martinec (http://freshmeat.net/users/mmartinec/)
Wed, Apr 23rd 2008 21:17
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: amavisd-new is a high-performance and reliable interface between
MTAs and one or more content checkers, including virus scanners, and/or
the Mail::SpamAssassin Perl module. It talks to an MTA via (E)SMTP or
LMTP, or by using helper programs. No timing gaps exist in the design,
which could cause a mail loss. It is normally positioned at or near a
central mailer, not necessarily where the user's mailboxes and final
delivery takes place.
Changes: DKIM signing and verification is now natively supported. Policy
banks based on DKIM-validated author address offer whitelisting and
bypassing of banning checks. Backscatter bounces can be killed based on
pen pals lookups. The SQL database was made partitionable. SA logging is
merged with native logging, along with a SA 3.3 timing report. Messages
from a quarantine can be released as attachments. Basic support for abuse
reporting was added. TLS is supported. Amavisd-nanny and amavisd-agent
re-open a database on amavisd restarts. p0f-analyzer.pl was updated to
support source port number in queries.

Wed, Apr 23rd 2008 04:53
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: Apache Geo Map is a script that parses an Apache combined access
log for the IP addresses of hosts that have accessed the server. It then
looks up a Geo-Tag for those locations and, if successful, it adds them to
a data file which the Google Maps API then displays. This plots all unique
resolvable hits on a map.
Changes: A feature was added which plots new hits in a different color
than old hits to make them easier to see. The markers are then updated to
the old color on the next run.

About: collectd is a small and modular daemon which collects system
information periodically and provides means to store the values. Included
in the distribution are numerous plug-ins for collecting CPU, disk, and
memory usage, network interface and DNS traffic, network latency, database
statistics, and much more. Custom statistics can easily be added in a
number of ways, including execution of arbitrary programs and plug-ins
written in Perl. Advanced features include a powerful network code to
collect statistics for entire setups and SNMP integration to query network
equipment.
Changes: Handling of libraries in non-standard paths has been improved in
the build system. Portability has been improved: the _REENTRANT flag is
now set automatically if needed and the BYTE_ORDER and BIG_ENDIAN defines
are checked more thoroughly. Some error and warning messages have been
improved in the daemon and the hddtemp plugin. The buffer in the Apache
plugin is now allocated dynamically. The exec plugin now closes all
unnecessary file descriptors before executing an application. A bug in the
sensors plugin that prevented some chips from being collected using
libsensors2 was fixed.

Software Development :: Build Tools
System :: Installation/Setup
About: JExpress is a cross platform Java installer builder. JExpress
generates native installers on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. It installs
the exact version of the JVM you want and also configures your customers'
machines to launch your Java application from a native executable on
Windows and Mac OS X. You customize your installer, updater, and
uninstaller using Java. Installers can be designed with multiple install
types or components. An installer can be created quickly with a simple
wizard or a powerful advanced interface.
Changes: This release integrates the wizard, advanced interface, and
updater. You can now bundle the exact JVM you tested. This simplifies
customization of the installer, updater, and uninstaller. The installer is
much smoother and faster. Bugs were fixed. Many other enhancements were
made.

Wed, Apr 23rd 2008 16:56
Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries
About: The OpenDBX libraries provide a unified and consistent API for
software developers to different database management systems. The C and
C++ libraries aim to implement access to the native database interfaces
efficiently via a thin abstraction layer. They consist of a basic set of
functions that are part of all vendor database libraries and can be
extended by additional function blocks. Currently, Firebird/Interbase, MS
SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQLite 2 and 3, and Sybase ASE are
supported.
Changes: The default implementation of odbx_escape() didn't escape single
backslashes, which may have made backends that didn't provide their own
implementations vulnerable to SQL injection attacks. In addition, bugs in

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: tokengrid is a PHP class that can be used to generate a grid of
tokens to authenticate users. Such a grid is similar to those that banks
provide to users to avoid account abuses after phishing attacks. It
generates a bidimensional array of tokens of limited length with letters
and digits. The generated grid is seeded by a given secret salt string and
a specific id that may be used to generate unique grids for different
applications and users. The class may also verify whether a token entered
by the user corresponds to a token of a random grid position.

[062] - ucommon 1.9.1
by David Sugar (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidsugar/)
Wed, Apr 23rd 2008 15:02
Software Development :: Libraries
About: UCommon is a lightweight C++ library to facilitate using C++ design
patterns even for very deeply embedded applications, such as for systems
using uClibc along with POSIX threading support. For this reason, UCommon
disables language features that consume memory or introduce runtime
overhead. UCommon introduces some design patterns from Objective-C, such
as reference counted objects, memory pools, and smart pointers. UCommon
introduces some new concepts for handling of thread locking and
synchronization.
Changes: This release has new generic keydata and keyfile config
file/config data parsing classes to use in place of Common C++ Keydata,
and a minor bugfix for string::token operation.

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: Unangband is a variant of Angband that has a distinct flavor. You
adventure in Tolkien's world, through towns and wilderness and multiple
dungeons, journeying from Bree towards greater and greater danger. This
variant roughly doubles the monster list, expands the class-based system
of Angband with numerous possible specialties that let you fashion a
unique character, offers an absurd variety of terrain, and includes a
bunch of major interface improvements, including better presentation of
graphics and an experimental isometric view.
Changes: This release is a development check point which allows you to
play a relatively bug-free version of Unangband, while the source is
heavily developed to add extra features that may potentially destabilize
further releases.
