freshmeat.net moves datacenters
by Patrick Lenz (http://freshmeat.net/users/scoop/)
Section: freshmeat
Fri, May 30th 2008 04:04
This coming Sunday, June 1st at 07:00 UTC (view this time in your
timezone) freshmeat.net will move out of the current location on the west
coast into the brand new SourceForge, Inc. datacenter on the east coast.
The switch itself should be brief. Please allow a downtime of 1-2 hours
though should the data synchronization processes not proceed as smoothly
as planned and tested. While we will shortly drop the TTL (time to live)
on our nameservers, you may still experience that access to the
freshmeat.net domain routes you to the old datacenter, in which case we
will redirect you over to the new one with a slightly changed hostname
your local nameservers are unlikely to have cached. We are also moving
onto brand new machines that have been re-installed from scratch. If you
experience any bugs or oddities in site behavior after the switch, please
don't hesitate to submit a trouble ticket through our contact page. As
always, please be as specific as possible to ease reproduction of your
problem and speed up the solution. Thanks for your understanding and
we'll see you on the other side.

System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions
About: The Amahi Home Server is a "Home Digital Assistant," or HDA. It's a
server targeted for home and home office environments. It provides
calendaring, a wiki, shared network storage, network backups, a printer
server, remote access, and more.
Changes: This release fixes a long-outstanding bug with an infamous "error
#22" error with the backups app (PBA: Personal Backup Appliance). The
package was also split into two RPMs, one large (with infrequent updates),
and one small (which gets updates more often). The delete button will
always delete a backup now, the layout for the backup table has been
improved, and there is a fix to make the install process more stable.

[013] - Dnsmasq 2.42
by Simon Kelley (http://freshmeat.net/users/simonkelley/)
Fri, May 30th 2008 13:46
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
About: Dnsmasq is a lightweight, easy to configure DNS forwarder and DHCP
server. It is designed to provide DNS and (optionally) DHCP to a small
network. It can serve the names of local machines which are not in the
global DNS. The DHCP server integrates with the DNS server and allows
machines with DHCP-allocated addresses to appear in the DNS with names
configured either in each host or in a central configuration file. Dnsmasq
supports static and dynamic DHCP leases and BOOTP/TFTP for network booting
of diskless machines.
Changes: This release adds some minor configuration options and includes
some maintenance for non-Linux platforms. There are two significant
bugfixes: a fix to the RFC3046 DHCP agent-id code, and a fix for a bug
that caused dnsmasq to spin, eating CPU, in very rare circumstances. (The
bug has been present since 2.38, and there has been exactly one report of
this problem.) Users of releases 2.38 and later should, nevertheless,
upgrade.

applies O-O principles and Design by Contract for high-quality software.
Many Eiffel libraries are included: ADT, network, GUI, database, parsing
(including an Eiffel parser), XML, Web, COM, and more.
Changes: A contract editor was added to ease editing of contracts. The
Eiffel Information System was added for connecting external documentation
to your Eiffel code and vice versa. The light batch compiler "ecb" was
added, which is about 20% to 40% faster than the GUI one. An experimental
unit testing tool was added. Exceptions were implemented as objects. A new
~ operator is supported to safely compare objects. Harmful catcalls are
detected at runtime. The "note" keyword is supported.

[015] - Extended Python Debugger 1.23
by R. Bernstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/rocky/)
Fri, May 30th 2008 10:41
Software Development :: Debuggers
About: Extended Python Debugger is a more complete debugger for Python
than the stock pdb.py debugger. It supports a "restart" command,
non-interactive POSIX-like line tracing, command options, disassembly of
instructions, and stack traces that give better information for exec
statements. Stepping/nexting skips over method/function "defs". It tries
to follow gdb's command set unless there is good reason not to.
Changes: An experimental feature allows you to drop into a Python or
IPython shell (similar to irb for ruby-debug). Parameters are now shown on
calls. You can save the current breakpoints and/or settings to a file to be
read in during a subsequent debugger session. A gdb-like "annotate" mode
was added, improving emacs interaction. Some bugs were fixed and the
documentation was updated.

Changes: A fix for a shell timeout error when converting and an MSN now
playing plugin (Windows only). Shuffle isn't autodetected anymore. An
ffmpeg debug mode window has been added. The Hungarian translation has
been updated. Fast mode space is now recovered when quitting. Overall,
there is much faster read/write (db+artwork), as well as better sorting of
albums and tracks starting with "the" and "a". An issue adding items to the
playlist has been fixed.

[031] - JChart2D 2.2.3
by Achim Westermann (http://freshmeat.net/users/achimwestermann/)
Fri, May 30th 2008 13:59
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
Software Development :: Libraries
About: JChart2D is a Swing widget for precise runtime visualization of
numerical tuples in an x-y plot. It is easy to use and is designed for
runtime display. Unlike other charting tools that cover all kinds of views
(pie, bar, etc.), it just creates precise x-y plots. It is thread-safe:
many different threads in an application may each add data to plot. A
single chart may contain multiple different traces. It also features
automatic scaling, choice of unit, viewports (zooming), output to images
(png, jpeg), logarithmic axis, and custom rendering of datapoints (lines,
dots, discs, filled polygons).
Changes: Zooming now interpolates connections in the visible range of two
points outside the zooming range. The size of snapshot images has been
corrected to the chart dimensions. The amount of points when using the
default trace painter has been increased from 1000 to "unlimited".
Removing and adding a trace with exactly the same data does not cause a
rendering error any more. A performance improvement for traces without
error bars has been made.

[034] - jPersist 3.2.6
by DaveB (http://freshmeat.net/users/dbulmore/)
Fri, May 30th 2008 05:53
Database
Database :: API
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
About: jPersist is an extremely powerful object-relational database
persistence API that manages to avoid the need for configuration and
annotation; mapping is automatic. It uses JDBC, and can work with any
relational database and any type of connection resource. It uses
information obtained from the database to handle mapping between the
database and Java objects, so mapping configuration is not needed, and
annotation is not needed. In fact, there is no configuration needed at
all.
Changes: This release fixes a couple of problems introduced in the latest
release of jPersist. The first and potentially most visible problem is the
reuse of closed statements in certain situations. The second is a piece of
code that was overlooked; Result.loadObjects() now works properly with
simple queries and parameterized types.
