Information Management

About: AgileWiki is meant to create software systems which are fluid,
easily configured and can be reorganized on-the-fly to meet ever changing
requirements. It includes a COW-based database, the Rolonics programming
paradigm, and semantic inferencing.

Changes: A bug with validate throwing spurious dup allocation exceptions
was fixed along with an issue where validate was closing the database.
Memory leaks in the remove methods of sorted and sorted iterator were
fixed. The first argument of adoptChild and adoptFork is now optional.

[003] - ATA over Ethernet driver 62 (For Linux 2.6)
  by Ed Cashin at Coraid (http://freshmeat.net/users/ecashinCoraid/)
  Thu, Jun 5th 2008 17:11

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: This driver allows the Linux kernel to use the ATA over Ethernet
(AoE) network protocol. Using AoE, a Linux system can use AoE block devices
like EtherDrive (R) storage blades. The block devices appear as local
device nodes (e.g. /dev/etherd/e0.0).

Changes: The ATA device identify response information is now exported via
ioctl, so that udev's ata_id can fetch the model and serial number
information of an AoE device. Compatibility with RHEL new kernels in 5.2
was added.

[004] - audio-entropyd 1.0.1
  by Folkert van Heusden (http://freshmeat.net/users/fvh/)
  Thu, Jun 5th 2008 17:15

Security :: Cryptography

About: audio-entropyd reads sound from a stereo soundcard, takes the
difference between the left and right channels and feeds the result (via a
secure hash) to the /dev/random entropy pool. This can be useful for
machines which require a lot of random data (e.g IPsec security gateways)
to ensure that the kernel entropy pool does not deplete and /dev/random
does not block.

Changes: This release adds code that checks the quality of the random
data; if it becomes bad, all data will be flushed until it is usable again.

[006] - Bacula 2.4.0
  by Lev_Arris (http://freshmeat.net/users/LevArris/)
  Thu, Jun 5th 2008 11:34

System :: Archiving :: Backup

About: Bacula is a set of programs that allow you to manage the backup,
recovery, and verification of computer data across a network of different
computers. It is based on a client/server architecture and is efficient and
relatively easy to use, while offering many advanced storage management
features that make it easy to find and recover lost or damaged files.

Changes: This release introduces a major rewrite of the storage daemon
concerning device reservation and autochanger handling and fixes handling
of reparse points in the Windows File Daemon. The latter will no longer
descend into reparse mount points unless specifically told to. Upgrades
from releases 2.0.x and 2.2.x will not need a database upgrade.

  Thu, Jun 5th 2008 06:52

Office/Business :: Financial
Scientific/Engineering

About: GRPN is a RPN calculator for the X Window system built using the
GIMP Toolkit (GTK). GRPN works with real numbers, complex numbers,
matrices, and complex matrices. Numbers can be displayed in 4 different
radix modes, and complex numbers can be displayed in either Cartesian or
polar form.

Changes: The new mode DECIMAL_ENG adds engineer notation: numbers are
displayed as 100e-6 instead of 1e-4. It can be switched on and off with the
commands "eng" and "dec". This release adds also some command shortcuts:
"deg", "rad", "pol", and "rect". The comma is now interpreted as a point to
cope with some international keyboards. The "complex" command can now not
only create complex numbers but also also decompose them.

[018] - Hogwash Light BR 1.5-rc1
  by Eriberto (http://freshmeat.net/users/eriberto/)
  Thu, Jun 5th 2008 17:09

About: HLBR is an IPS (Intrusion Prevention System) that can filter
packets directly in layer 2 of the OSI model (invisible to attackers).
Detection of malicious/anomalous traffic is done by rules based on
signatures. It is an efficient and versatile IPS, and can be used as a
bridge to honeypots and honeynets. HLBR is a firewall element and can use
regular expressions to detect malicious traffic. For example, a rule which
might detect links to viruses in email messages would be 'tcp
regex(href="[^\n]+\.scr")'.

Changes: The POSIX regex was replaced by Perl regex. Officially, only
GNU/Linux is supported now. The COPYING file was added and the
LICENSE.{en,pt_BR} files removed. man/hlbr.8.gz has changed to man/hlbr.8.
A bug in the Makefile has been fixed: the man page is installed now.
Makefile.in has been optimized. There are small updates and fixes in the
man page. CHANGELOG.pt_BR and TODO.pt_BR have been removed.
{CHANGELOG,TODO}.en files have been moved to CHANGELOG and TODO. The
changelog format was remade. There is a new detection test, TCP URI, in
testing. The README.{en,pt_BR} and TEAM files have been updated.

[019] - I'm Cross! 20080604
  by Ron Burkey (http://freshmeat.net/users/rburkey/)
  Thu, Jun 5th 2008 06:49

About: I'm Cross! is a script that installs cross-compiler toolchains that
target Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X on a developer's Linux workstation.
Additionally, it installs cross-compiled versions of various libraries,
such as wxWidgets, GTK+, FLTK, Allegro, PCRE, libxml2, zlib, and
pthreads-w32, as well as installer (setup.exe) creation tools. This
provides an easy way to set up a Linux workstation to simultaneously build
Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X executables from the same source tree, and
then to create installer programs for those executables.

Changes: Cross-compiled libraries for Allegro (targeted at Mac OS X), Qt 4
(Windows), SDL (Windows and Mac OS X), and libgsf (Windows) have been
added. There is now a much greater degree of persistent customization of
the installation available, including selection of libraries not installed
and the locations of the installed tools and libraries. There is now a
framework under which users can contribute their own favorite libraries to
the project. There is a method for binary cloning of an IMCROSS
installation to another computer. Various bugfixes have been made. A GIT
repository is now available.

  Thu, Jun 5th 2008 14:05

Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: The MCL (Markov Cluster Algorithm) is a fast and scalable cluster
algorithm for graphs based on stochastic flow. The flow process employed by
the algorithm is mathematically sound and intrinsically tied to cluster
structure in graphs, which is revealed as the imprint left by the process.
The threaded implementation has handled graphs of up to one million nodes
within hours, and is widely used in the field of protein family analysis.
It comes with a wide range of sibling utilities for handling and analyzing
graphs, matrices, and clusterings.

Changes: The mcl suite is moving towards a wider focus on general purpose
large scale graph analysis, with the emphasis, besides clustering, on basic
graph and clustering measures and transformations. The program mcxarray can
now transform tabular gene expression data into graph input. The clm
utility computes clustering coefficients, diameter and eccentricity, and
betweenness centrality. Many fixes and improvements were made throughout.

some dynamite to blast them. The main difference from similar games is that
you can have multiple player-controlled characters on the screen.

System :: Archiving
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring

About: RVM is an archive manager that uses rsync to manage backups of
multiple clients across multiple logical partitions (vaults). It has some
features that some other rsync-based backup schemes lack, such as being
written in C++, needing no scripts or other programs than rsync and any
binaries on which rsync depends (such as SSH), the ability to manage
multiple instances of rsync connections to separate clients in parallel,
the ability to use multiple logical partitions (vaults) in a configurable
fashion for purporses of redundancy and added reliability, and the use of
hard links for files that have not changed from one archive to the next.

Changes: This release compiles with the latest gcc, and has other minor
bug fixes. It adds rsync-retry-delay, and rsync-multi-hardlink for newer
versions of rsync that support multiple --link-dest= command line options.
