Communications :: Chat

About: Ayttm is an instant messenger program, supporting various protocols
such as MSN, Yahoo, AIM, Jabber, and more. It is a fork of Everybuddy, and
initially aims to address its problems. It should not segfault when you use
it, and should be almost instantly usable by your mother. Almost useless
prefs should be hidden, reserved for "advanced" users, and things have to
work without wondering what this or that will produce.

Changes: This release has some major and minor fixes, including the
critical Yahoo! protocol update. There are also some new features like the
much awaited tray icon.

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Real Time Strategy
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: Babelize is a collection of localizations for Linux games. It
currently features French, German, Polish, and Spanish translations for
"Heroes of Might and Magic III", as well as French, German, and Spanish
translations for "Alpha Centauri - Alien Crossfire". The goal of the
project is to provide localizations for as many native Linux games as
possible.

Changes: This version supports games with multiple source media. It also
supports extra files which are not installed on a full game installation
but are required for localization. Support for patching different versions
of the same file and support for patching optional installed files during
an official game update were added. Two new language packs were released: a
German version of "Descent 3" and a Russian version of "Heroes of Might and
Magic 3".

Software Development :: Version Control

About: Bazaar is a simple decentralized revision control system.
Decentralized revision control systems give users the ability to branch
remote repositories to a local context. Users can commit to local branches
without requiring special permission from the branches that they branched
from.

Changes: This release contains further progress towards the goals for
shallow repositories and a fix for some user-affecting bugs in the
repository layer. Building of working trees during checkout and branch is
now faster.

Internet :: Name Service (DNS)

About: The Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND) implements an Internet
name server for Unix operating systems. The BIND consists of a server (or
`daemon') called `named' and a resolver library. A name server is a network
service that enables clients to name resources or objects and share this
information with other objects in the network.

Changes: This version has a number of new features including GSS-TSIG
support (RFC 3645), DHCID support, experimental HTTP server and statistics
support for named via XML, more detailed statistics counters that are
compatible with the ones supported in BIND 8, faster ACL processing, use of
Doxygen to generate internal documentation, an efficient LRU cache cleaning
mechanism, and NSID support (RFC 5001).

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing

About: Dehydra is a lightweight, scriptable, general purpose static
analysis tool capable of application-specific analyses of C++ code. In the
simplest sense, it can be thought of as a semantic grep tool. It presents a
wealth of semantic information that can be queried with concise
JavaScripts. It is also useful to find bugs in source code, as it allows
for much more error checking than C++ is capable of by itself. Dehydra is
built as a GCC plugin, thus it is easy to use for projects that already
support GCC. It is also useful for generating language bindings and is used
to bootstrap Treehydra, a heavy-duty static analysis GCC plugin. Dehydra
and Treehydra are being developed by Mozilla and are currently actively
used.

Changes: Currently only the GCC C++ frontend is supported.

  by Craig Miller (http://freshmeat.net/users/cvmiller/)
  Tue, Jun 10th 2008 20:10

Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: Expect-lite is a wrapper for expect, created to make expect
programming even easier. The wrapper permits the creation of expect script
command files by using special character(s) at the beginning of each line
to indicate the expect-lite action. Basic expect-lite scripts can be
created by simply cutting and pasting text from a terminal window into a
script, and adding '>' '

variables first. Now environment variables can be set and expect-lite
invoked with no arguments.

  Tue, Jun 10th 2008 09:24

Software Development :: Testing

About: Hammock is a mock object framework for J2ME devices. It is used in
conjunction with unit test frameworks like JMUnit and J2MEUnit. The
framework includes mocks for many of the J2ME UI and I/O classes as well as
a utility, HammockMaker, for generating mocks of other classes.

Changes: This release adds an IArgumentMatcher interface that can be
associated with an expectation. The argument matcher is used to verify that
the expected and actual arguments passed in a mock object's method
invocation are correct. The sample applications now include a J2MEUnit
example in addition to the JMUnit examples. The HammockMaker example has
been improved. The user guide includes a section on Hammock's internals
describing the core classes of the framework. Mocks of the JSR211 (CHAPI)

  by mercury_hj (http://freshmeat.net/users/mercury_hj/)
  Tue, Jun 10th 2008 17:16

Games/Entertainment :: Puzzle Games

About: House Of Mirrors (HoM) is a logic game inspired by Chromatron
(from Silver SpaceShip Software). The game consists of a 2D grid in which
several types of objects are found, including detectors and mirrors. The
goal is simple: light up all the detectors using emitted or reflected rays
of light. Usually, you can move and rotate the mirrors but not the
detectors. In each level, the choice of available objects is limited. There
can be more than one solution for each level. Levels can be created by
users in hand-editable XML format and shared with others.

Changes: Compatible with Scala 2.7.1 (a workaround is included for a
compiler bug). Levels are now locked. You need to solve previous levels
before you can solve the next one. A new level has been added. There are
many GUI improvements.

[053] - The Cell Messaging Layer 2.0
  by Scott Pakin (http://freshmeat.net/users/pakin/)
  Tue, Jun 10th 2008 20:11

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: The Cell Messaging Layer is a communication library for clusters of
Cell Broadband Engine processors. It implements a subset of the popular MPI
message-passing API on the Cell's SPE processors, with one MPI rank per SPE
across any number of Cells and the ability for any SPE to communicate
directly with any other SPE, even across a network. The Cell Messaging
Layer thereby makes programming clusters of Cell processors similar to
programming clusters of conventional CPUs.

Changes: Hybrid clusters (e.g. the Roadrunner supercomputer) are now
supported. The remote procedure call mechanism is easier to use. SPE main()
functions now accept real argc and argv[]. A new MPI_COMM_MEM_DOMAIN
communicator enables intra-Cell collectives. "make explain" explains
configuration error messages. The PPE's cellmsg_run() can now take either a
filename or a spe_program_handle_t. A ping-pong benchmark has been added to
the examples directory.

to flagged timesheet errors. Payroll administrators can quickly generate
paystubs and process payroll based off timesheet information or export
timesheet data to other applications.

Changes: This release contains a fix for the mass schedule functionality.
It includes improvements to the installer for Windows 2003 and the
uninstaller for all platforms.

Internet :: Proxy Servers

About: Tor-ramdisk is an i686 uClibc-based micro Linux distribution (3.1
MB) whose only purpose is to host a Tor server in an environment that
maximizes security and privacy. Tor is a network of virtual tunnels that
allows people and groups to improve their privacy and security on the
Internet. Security is enhanced by employing a monolithically compiled
GRSEC/PAX patched kernel and hardened system tools. Privacy is enhanced by
turning off logging at all levels so that even the Tor operator only has
access to minimal information. Finally, since everything runs in ephemeral
memory, no information survives a reboot, except for the Tor configuration
file and the private RSA key which may be exported/imported by FTP.

[057] - tox 1.0
  by dacracot (http://freshmeat.net/users/dacracot/)

Database :: API
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: The tox (Tomcat, Oracle, and XML) Web archive is a foundation for
development of HTTP-based applications using Tomcat (or some other servlet
container) and an Oracle RDBMS. It requires coding primarily in PL/SQL,
JavaScript, and XSLT, but also in HTML, CSS, and potentially Java. It
enables the construction of applications using the model/view/controller
(MVC) design pattern. With a controller that executes interpreted XML for
creating the model and view, developers can construct new functionality.
The model is retrieved either via includes or by the execution of Oracle's
stored procedures, and then passed to an XML stylesheet transform to
construct and return the view. Different combinations and options provide
rich dynamic content.

[058] - Urpkg 1.0
  by S. Vasey (http://freshmeat.net/users/svasey/)
  Tue, Jun 10th 2008 09:09

System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Systems Administration
Utilities

About: Urpkg is software to install programs in a safe and undoable way.
It is able to see what files any given installation command creates, and
list and remove them. You are able to restrict the installation command so
that it only writes where you allow it to, and does not overwrite files
from other packages. Urpkg is especially useful if you want to install
programs from source, or create binary packages in an automated way. Under
the hood, urpkg creates a user for each package it has to install, which
prevents the installation command from run with root privileges. It can be
seen as a "command tracer" that remembers what files a command created and
prevents it from doing forbidden things. It is written in C but relies on
some external commands, like GNU Find.

Changes: This is the first fully functional release.

Home Automation

About: Very Simple Control Protocol Daemon is a daemon for home
automation tasks.

Changes: Filter/mask operations and functionality now work in daemon and
VSCP Works plus support code. Daemon now writes the PID to
/var/run/vscpd.pid on startup and removes it on exit. It also reacts
correctly on kill and other signals. VSCP filter has been changed to
include index, zone, and subzone. A problem with RX/TX indication in VSCP
Works has been fixed. Excessive CPU load in the TCP/Receive routine for
frmvscpsession has been fixed. Memory leaks in the daemon and VSCP Works
have been fixed. Driver problems in the daemon have been fixed.

[060] - WrapLinux 1.4
  by H. Peter Anvin (http://freshmeat.net/users/hpa/)

System :: Boot

About: WrapLinux is a utility to wrap a Linux kernel, together with a
kernel command line and one or more initrd/initramfs files into a single
file in ELF or NBI format. This is required by certain boot protocols, such
as Etherboot/Netboot, and may otherwise be desired for consistency reasons.
It can be considered a replacement for the mknbi and mkelf utilities.

Changes: The generation of NBI images with merged segments has been fixed.
Merged segments is the norm, so effectively NBI images were broken.

[061] - YaCy 0.59
  by miTreD (http://freshmeat.net/users/miTreD/)
  Tue, Jun 10th 2008 14:53

Communications :: File Sharing
Information Management
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)

About: YaCy is a personal Web crawler and Web search engine. It's also a
P2P-based Web index exchange network without a central server and no
censoring possibility. Web crawls can be done locally, or you can trigger a
collaborative Web crawl with all other YaCy peers. YaCy is fun to use and
shows interesting text, image, audio and video search results with direct
links to Ogg, MP3, and video files. It has a cooperative bookmark system
and many Web publishing functions.

Changes: The IP and seed handling were improved. Crawl starting was
slightly changed. The basic configuration is very easy now, as a result of
changes to the authorization mechanism. The way to define and switch
networks was improved. YaCy is now SRU compliant. There is ongoing work to
the YaCy-UI rich client. In addition, some minor security vulnerabilities
have been fixed and a lot of bugfixes have been made.
