About: Fakeroot-ng runs a program while fooling it into thinking it is
running with root privileges. When the program does something that only
root can do (e.g. create a device file), fakeroot-ng emulates the
appropriate system calls so that the program gets a consistent view of its
actions. Unlike the original fakeroot, fakeroot-ng uses the ptrace
interface, which means that it will (soon) support emulating chroot jails
properly.

  Wed, Jun 11th 2008 17:19

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: LimeSurvey (formerly PHPSurveyor) is a Web application that
interacts with MySQL, MSSQL, or Postgres to develop surveys, publish
surveys, and collect responses to surveys. Once a survey has been created,
data can be inserted into the survey either by a "pretty" public screen
which presents each question one at a time, or by a quick and nasty data
entry screen. It includes the capacity to generate individualized "tokens",
so that invitations can be issued to participants. It also has the capacity
to set conditions on whether questions will display (branching), numerous
question types, and a basic statistics function.

Changes: Template preview to survey settings was added. The template
editor can now handle a related template CSS file. Prefix and Suffix
Question Attributes for Short Text,, Multiple Short Text, and Numerical
input were added. The new attribute "other_replace_text" allows use of
alternative text to "Other" for question types that have this option. An
Icelandic translation was added. Translations for Chinese Traditional,
Danish, Korean, Latvian, Portuguese-Brazilian, Spanish, and Portuguese were
updated. There are minor security fixes.

[038] - ramlog 1.1.0
  by Jan Andrejkovic (http://freshmeat.net/users/Tofu2/)
  Wed, Jun 11th 2008 08:01

System :: Boot
System :: Logging
System :: Systems Administration

About: ramlog acts as a system daemon that maintains log files in memory
instead of hard disk while the system is running. On startup, it creates a
ramdisk, copies files from /var/log into the ramdisk, and mounts the
ramdisk as /var/log. All logs after that will be updated on the ramdisk.
When shutting down or restarting the service, it saves log files back to
hard disk. This service drastically reduces the frequency of hard disk
usage, which can be useful when the system runs on battery or uses flash
memory instead of a hard disk.

Changes: Support for Ubuntu was added. Support for SELinux was added.
ramlog now saves security context of all files in /var/log. Logs are saved
to HDD even if stopping is not successful. A logging feature was added (and
it is on by default). A .deb package was created for Ubuntu. Some bugs were

[055] - xlax 2.3
  by Thomas A. Fine (http://freshmeat.net/users/thecrusher/)

Desktop Environment :: Tools
System :: Systems Administration
Terminals

About: xlax is an X11 input multiplexer: it sends your keyboard input from
the xlax window to a group of windows simultaneously. The tool is designed
for system administrators who typically have to do the same thing on
several machines (or in several different directories). Windows can be
added or deleted interactively, or temporarily disconnected and
reconnected. xlax allows you to assign a custom string to each window (e.g.
a hostname) that can be sent with a button click. An included script
handles starting up and arranging windows, and allows you to set up
commonly used window groupings in a config file.

Changes: A "Paste" button has been added to allow you to paste the current
selection to all active windows. The documentation has been updated to
reflect changes. There's also some code cleanup; it might compile more
cleanly now.

[056] - XMLUnit 1.2 (For Java)
  by Stefan Bodewig (http://freshmeat.net/users/bodewig/)

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Software Development :: Testing

About: XMLUnit provides assertions and supporting class libraries to test
various properties of generated pieces of XML using a popular testing
framework. It supports finding the differences between two pieces of XML,
validating documents against DTDs or XML Schemas, testing the results of
XPath expressions, or asserting properties of Nodes exposed via DOM
traversal. Two branches exist: one that supports Java and JUnit and one
that supports the .NET Framework and NUnit.

Changes: The major new feature of XMLUnit for Java 1.2 is an alternative
XML validation subsystem built on top of JAXP 1.3 which supports validation
against alternative XML Schema languages (if your JAXP implementation
supports them) and validation of the Schema definition itself. In addition,
all known issues of XMLUnit 1.1 have been fixed.

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Embedded Systems

About: CodeSynthesis XSD/e is a validating XML parser/serializer generator
for mobile and embedded systems. It provides event-driven, stream-oriented
XML parsing, XML serialization, XML Schema validation, and C++ data binding
while maintaining a small footprint and portability.

Changes: Support for XML Schema polymorphism (xsi:type and substitution
groups) has been added. Automatic generation of sample serializers and test
drivers has been implemented. Support for delegation-based implementation
reuse in addition to inheritance-based has been added. Parser and
serializer reuse after an error is now supported. The file-per-type
compilation mode in addition to file-per-schema has been implemented.
