Information Management
Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions
About: The Amahi Home Server is a "Home Digital Assistant," or HDA. It's a
server targeted for home and home office environments. It provides
calendaring, a wiki, shared network storage, network backups, a printer
server, remote access, and more.
Changes: An issue where a DVD mounted could cause the setup screen to show
as an error has been fixed. An install scriplet failure to use the full
path has been fixed. In iHama theme 1.1, some CSS styling issues with
application tables have been fixed, as well as the size of the thumbnail.
slideshow 0.26 has better support for PicLens, and renders the MediaRSS
feed and the slideshow in alphanumerical order, so the pictures show in the
order in which the directories display them. Image files whose names start
with a dot are ignored.

Communications :: File Sharing
About: aMule is short for "all-platform eMule-like file-sharing program",
or, in short, "all-platform Mule". It's a port of the well-known eMule P2P
client for the eDonkey2000 and Kad file sharing networks, supporting most
of eMule's features. Additionally, it provides a small separate Web server
and command line interface to connect to a running aMule via the network.
Changes: Protocol obfuscation, UPnP support, network protocol updates to
eMule 0.49a (including large file support), Kad 2.0, improved skin support
and country flags, support for compilation with MS Visual Studio, and more.

[004] - Apache SpamAssassin 3.2.5 (Stable)
by Justin Mason (http://freshmeat.net/users/jmason/)
Thu, Jun 12th 2008 14:03
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
About: Apache SpamAssassin is an extensible email filter that is used to
identify spam. Once identified, the mail can then be optionally tagged as
spam for later filtering. It provides a command line tool to perform
filtering, a client-server system to filter large volumes of mail, and
Mail::SpamAssassin, a set of Perl modules allowing Apache SpamAssassin to
be used in a wide variety of email systems.
Changes: Newer gpg versions require keys to be cross-certified, so the
sa-update public key was fixed accordingly. A perl version string was added
to the storage area for compiled rulesets, to avoid crashes when perl is
upgraded between major versions (e.g. perl 5.8.x to 5.10.0) and the ABI
breaks. Some FORGED_MUA_OUTLOOK false positives were cleared on the
new-format Message-ID generated by the Outlook Express version used in
Windows XP service pack 3. Compatibility with Postgres 8.1.0 and later was
fixed. Other miscellaneous fixes were done.

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering
About: Asymptote is a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. Asymptote is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program. It can exploit the best features of
script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI) methods.
High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language itself,
allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.
Changes: A new array(n, value) function returns an array consisting of n
copies of a value. Conditional drawing of surface meshes was implemented.
Vector field support was improved. Graph tick selection without autoscaling
was improved. By default, all 2D axes are drawn below existing objects. An
interface for drawing contours on arbitrary non-overlapping meshes was
added. Dash offset and font selection bugs were fixed. Modules for
redefining LaTeX named font sizes for 10pt and 11pt article document
classes were added. Emacs asy-mode.el support was improved. A problem with
label alignment was fixed.

Thu, Jun 12th 2008 20:34
About: Beesoft Commander is a file manager (like Norton Commander) for
Linux. It is based on Qt-GUI.
Changes: This release has a configuration dialog where users can define
all colors and backgrounds for file views. The ability to compare two files
has been implemented. When they are not the same, the program starts a
graphical comparator. By default it starts beediff, but the user can define
their own comparator program.

Security :: Cryptography
System :: Filesystems
System :: Systems Administration
About: cryptmount is a utility for creating and managing secure filing
systems on GNU/Linux systems. After initial setup, it allows any user to
mount or unmount filesystems on demand, solely by providing the decryption
password, with any system devices needed to access the filing system being
configured automatically. A wide variety of encryption schemes (provided by
the kernel dm-crypt system and the libgcrypt library) can be used to
protect both the filesystem and the access key. The protected filing
systems can reside in either ordinary files or disk partitions. The package
also supports encrypted swap partitions, and automatic configuration on
system boot-up.
Changes: German translations for the main application were added. The
interactive setup script was internationalized. French translations for the
setup script were added. Support for default filesystem parameters within
the master configuration file was added. Support for multiple password
attempts was added. Dependence on the OpenSSL library was removed.

[014] - fastutil 5.1.5
by Sebastiano Vigna (http://freshmeat.net/users/vigna/)
Thu, Jun 12th 2008 12:35
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: fastutil extends the Java Collections Framework by providing
type-specific maps, sets, lists, and queues for Java with a small memory
footprint and fast access and insertion; it also includes a fast I/O API
for binary and text files. The classes implement their standard counterpart
interfaces (e.g., Map for maps) and can be plugged into existing code.
Besides the usual features, fastutil provides reference-based containers
(which do not use equals() to compare objects) and linked structures. Most
iterators provided by fastutil classes are bidirectional, or even implement
the standard list iterator interface.
Changes: An issue where the isEmpty() method of ArraySet was actually
returning ! isEmpty() was fixed. A new constructor for
FasyMultiByteArrayInputStream makes it possible to pass a
MeasurableInputStream.

by Haypo (http://freshmeat.net/users/haypo/)
Thu, Jun 12th 2008 12:34
Communications
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
System :: Networking
About: IPy is a Python class and tools for handling IPv4 and IPv6
addresses and networks. The IP class provides comfortable parsing and
handling for most notations in use for IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and
networks. It was greatly inspired by the interface of the RIPE Perl module
NET::IP, but it doesn't share the implementation. It doesn't share non-CIDR
netmasks, so funky stuff like a netmask of 0xffffff0f can't be done here.
Changes: Version 0.60 is "major" version and breaks compatibility with the
previous version (0.56). The global and ugly check_addr_prefixlen option
has been removed and replaced by the make_net constructor argument. The
default string formatter, str(ip), is now strCompressed() instead of
strFullsize() for smarter formatting of IPv6 addresses. strCompressed() now
formats "::ffff:a.b.c.d" correctly. Version 0.61 allows the [-1] operator
to work with an IP object of size 1.

[027] - MP3 Management 2.0
by Nadir (http://freshmeat.net/users/nadir1915/)
Thu, Jun 12th 2008 14:31
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio
About: MP3 Management can be used to build a catalog of MP3 files in a
MySQL database. It can traverse a given directory to find MP3 files. For
each MP3 file that is found, it extracts its ID3 tags, including album art,
and adds an entry in a MySQL database. The class also extracts 20 second
clips of each MP3 file and stores them in a subdirectory named clips. The
duration of the clips is configurable. The class is intended to be used
with the Id3 Tag Correction and Downloading script, which corrects id3 tags
and downloads lyrics, artist biographies, and other information using Web
services and other Web sites.
Changes: Support was added for album art extraction. The indexing feature
was removed, as it was found to be redundant. Support for emailing all
errors to the user was added. Tables were added to the database for
supporting the Id3 Tag Correction and Downloading script. The script
corrects id3 tags and gets track lyrics, artist biography, and other
information using Web services and other Web sites.

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
About: Mutt Folder List is a mutt patch that adds a sidebar showing all
mail folders and the total and number of new messages each contains. It
allows users to hide or display the sidebar with a single keystroke, and
optionally highlights folders with new messages. Users can scroll up and
down the list of folders and open the selected folder, and configure the
sidebar width, colors, and key bindings.
Changes: This fixes a minor problem in the folder indenting patch that was
displaying some folder names as "null".

Communications :: Email
About: Newsletter is a tool for Web site owners that wish to send
newsletters to subscribed users. For this, the program must be supplied
with a template file, holding mail header and body, as well as access to
the user database (only MySQL is supported). The software will then
generate and send one customized mail per user. Newsletter is not intended
to be used for sending spam, and is designed in a way to prevent this kind
of usage by requiring the use of one's own mailserver.

[037] - RefleX 0.3.1
by Philippe Poulard (http://freshmeat.net/users/ppoulard/)
Thu, Jun 12th 2008 14:09
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Interpreters
Text Processing :: Markup
About: RefleX is a Java tool that allows people that have no particular
knowledge of Java to write smart programs entirely in XML. The concepts of
native XML programming used in RefleX have been designed separately, so
that other implementations on other platforms/languages can be considered.
As the tags used are considered "active", the underlying concepts have been
named "Active Tags". Programming in XML allows developers to efficiently
produce batch scripts as well as Web applications. With Active Tags, you
can dramatically decrease the number of lines you have to code.
Changes: WUnit was added, which is a tool for unit tests of Web
applications. There is no complex installation: just download and unzip.
WUnit can test both the UI and act on server-side components (such as
storing an object authoritatively in the user session). Items are
adressable with XPath. Tests are written with XML. AJAX-based applications
are supported. A runnable tutorial with file uploads, AJAX autocompleter,
and session cheats is available at
http://reflex.gforge.inria.fr/wunit-quick-start.html.

[044] - SVNGroup 0.9.7
by Joseph (http://freshmeat.net/users/mojojoseph/)
Thu, Jun 12th 2008 12:11
Software Development :: Version Control :: Subversion
About: svngroup is a collection of tools designed to facilitate advanced
access control lists for Subversion repositories. Unlike tools such as
svnperms.py or authz, svngroup puts the manipulation of ACLs directly in
the hands of group owners. Group owners are those individuals who have been
granted "special" privileges in the repository and can make decisions
regarding who can and can't submit to a particular location in the
repository.
Changes: The reason why commits fail is reported. Listing the working
directory provides group information if it is available. Additional
information is provided by the delgroup command. The server log-level is
configurable. Quickly upgrading an existing installation is supported. A
bug in which delpath caused a server exception was fixed. The LSB-style
runlevel script stop did not stop the server. The server was not catching
SIGTERM and left connections partially open. delpath with one argument
caused a client traceback. All of those problems were fixed.

Software Development :: Version Control :: Subversion
About: Userfriendly SVN (USVN) is a Web-based interface to configure your
subversion repositories. This interface allows you to create new projects
without a command line client, and it requires priviliged access to the
server. USVN will take care of managing the list of users which are
authorized to check out source code. This allows you to delegate the
administration of your Subversion depots. USVN permits easy management of
access restriction on Subversion files.
Changes: This version fixes blocking bugs. New Japanese and Brazilian
Portuguese translations were included. A missing RSS icon was added. A
problem with recursive file rights updating was fixed along with a problem
with PDO on Etch and CentOS. Users can now only click on their own groups.

custom wikitext rendering applications. Its wikitext engine is compatible
with the TiddlyWiki markup language. It functions equally well as a
wiki-on-a-stick or as a multiuser wiki behind Apache. It includes a Drupal
plugin as well.
Changes: A GUI "control center" was added for managing local wikis. This
is particularly useful if you are running several local wikis and don't
want to keep starting and stopping them by hand. Handling of embedded
Python code in wikitexts was fixed. Options were added on the wiki admin
page to turn off most disk writes (for more USB-friendly usage). SiteTitle
