  Tue, Jul 8th 2008 16:14

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: AsItHappens is a real-time network statistics collector and
grapher. It collects data from devices over a network via ICMP and SNMP and
displays them on a graph, optionally storing collected data in a database
for later retrieval. Collection types include network response, bandwidth
usage, processor usage, memory usage, Cisco NBAR, and Cisco NetFlow.
AsItHappens polls data in regular intervals, which can be in the order of
milliseconds, to give immediate feedback on network performance, and it can
also graph flow information from packet capture files. AsItHappens includes
the Self Defending Network, a horizontal shoot-em-up based on collected
graph data.

Changes: This release fixes several bugs, including port enumeration
failure for devices without ifAlias information, failure to store
read-write community strings, the inability to enter boundary times in
currently collecting sessions, incorrect x-axis scaling of stored session
graphs, and initialization failures for NBAR and Netflow graphs. This
release also adds the ability to customize the line positioning, style, and
color for each data set on a graph.

[010] - dwdiff 1.4
  by gphalkes (http://freshmeat.net/users/gphalkes/)
  Tue, Jul 8th 2008 10:48

Text Processing

About: dwdiff is a front-end for the diff program that operates at the
word level instead of the line level. It is different from wdiff in that
it allows the user to specify what should be considered whitespace, and in
that it takes an optional list of characters that should be considered
delimiters. Delimiters are single characters that are treated as if they
are words, even when there is no whitespace separating them from preceding
words or delimiters. dwdiff is mostly commandline compatible with wdiff.
The default output from dwdiff is the new text, with the deleted and
inserted parts annotated with markers. Command line options are available
to change both what is printed and the markers.

Changes: Unicode support was added as well as an option to treat all
punctuation characters as delimiters.

with musical taste similar to your own. Your favorite stations can be
accessed quickly by typing a few letters into the location bar. The
auto-play feature begins playing the last station you played when you
closed Firefox.

Changes: This release fixed problems where the player skips all tracks,
all of the time, player buttons were enabled after "No more content", and
access keys were acting as shortcuts.

[026] - LimeSurvey Stable 1.71+ Build 5246
  by Carsten Schmitz (http://freshmeat.net/users/cronostitan/)
  Tue, Jul 8th 2008 10:25

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: LimeSurvey (formerly PHPSurveyor) is a Web application that
interacts with MySQL, MSSQL, or Postgres to develop surveys, publish
surveys, and collect responses to surveys. Once a survey has been created,
data can be inserted into the survey either by a "pretty" public screen
which presents each question one at a time, or by a quick and nasty data
entry screen. It includes the capacity to generate individualized "tokens",
so that invitations can be issued to participants. It also has the capacity
to set conditions on whether questions will display (branching), numerous
question types, and a basic statistics function.

Changes: This release added qmail to mailer settings, updated FCKeditor to
version 2.6.2, updated the German, French, and Estonian translation, fixed
HTML tags in PDF export, fixed a problem where array_filter wasn't working
properly in all-in-one survey mode, made the mailer able to use a port in
the hostnamesetting, optimized and fixed SPSS export, fixed an issue with
completion not being saved if the last group only contains a boilerplate
question or is not shown at all, and fixed the logout/login page language
direction, which was wrong with RTL languages.

Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry

About: The massXpert software package is a mass spectrometry environment
for linear (bio-)polymers. It inherits all the innovations of GNU
polyxmass. It allows the detailed definition of new polymer chemistries in
the XpertDef module. These chemistry definitions are then used in the
desktop calculator-like mass calculator (XpertCalc) and in the
sophisticated polymer sequence editor and (bio-)chemical/mass spectrometric
simulations module (XpertEdit). Available simulations include polymer and
monomer chemical modifications, polymer sequence cleavage, gas-phase
fragmentation, m/z ratio calculations, and more.

Changes: This release adds the ability to stack oligomers obtained via
different cleavages using different cleaving agents. This makes it possible
to gather in a single window all the oligomers generated in a number of
cleavage simulations. There are bugfixes. The documentation has been
updated.

[040] - Streamline 1.7.4.2
  by Willem de Bruijn (http://freshmeat.net/users/wdebruij/)
  Tue, Jul 8th 2008 16:18

System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: Streamline is an I/O subsystem for Linux. It tailors I/O paths to
applications by constructing them on demand from functional components.
Components may reside in userspace, the OS kernel, or on peripheral
hardware. The base distribution comes bundled with components for pattern
matching (regex, aho corasick, bpf), logging (IPFIX, http_log), TCP stream
reassembly, and more (e.g. gzip and blowfish). Obvious uses are intrusion
detection and request logging. Streamline exports POSIX file, pipe, and
socket abstractions and the PCAP and MAPI monitoring interfaces.

Changes: This version adds PipesFS: a Linux virtual filesystem for I/O.
PipesFS presents kernel I/O operations as directories and exports live
streams through Unix pipes. The FS allows users to quickly construct kernel
tasks using the 40+ Streamline operations using mkdir, ln, etc. and to
interact with kernel I/O using cat, grep, gzip, etc. The shared-memory
version of Posix I/O, Beltway Buffers, was also updated. This version was
used for application benchmarks (bind9, mplayer, tcpdump) and increases
performance and Posix compliance over 1.7.3. Support was added for Sun RPC
(beta).

[043] - Treebolic 2.0.0
  by Bernard Bou (http://freshmeat.net/users/bbou/)
  Tue, Jul 8th 2008 16:27

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: Treebolic is a suite of programs (an engine, a generator, a
browser, and example Web services) whose purpose is to give a hyperbolic
rendering of a hierarchy of data. A tree is rendered with nodes and edges
but display space is subject to a particular curvature: more space is
allocated to the focus node while the parent and children, still in the
immediate visual context, appear slightly smaller. The grandparents and
grandchildren are still visible but smaller still. Distant nodes gradually
disappear towards the disk's border, as though the whole hierarchy were
seen through a fish eye lens.

Changes: The Treebolic suite was rewritten from the ground up for better
modularity and is now a three-tier system consisting of the hosting
application (applet/application/browser/generator), the core library, and
the data provider. 16 data providers come with this release: XML, XSLT,
OWL, Dot, GXL, GXML, SQL, indented text, WordNet, Wordnet EJB, Freemind,
graph-derived spanning tree, and more. The generator has been enhanced and
a multi-tab browser is available. Debian and RPM packages are also
