About: The Amahi Home Server is a Linux Home Server; a "Home Digital
Assistant," or HDA. Each HDA is a Fedora-based server distribution targeted
for home and home office environments. It provides calendaring, a wiki,
shared network storage, network backups, printer server, VPN, and a plug-in
architecture.
Changes: An initial version of a utility called hda-theme-generator that
generates theme skeletons that can then be customized and released as a
separate theme was included. This is an alpha version that has some known
bugs.

Thu, Jul 10th 2008 11:41
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
System :: Archiving
About: ArchView can open archive files online without downloading the
whole archive, just like normal Web pages. It is very fast since it just
fetches a small portion of the archive file from the server. It supports
RAR and ZIP formats, and HTTP, FTP, and file: protocols. It can present XUL
or HTML interface.
Changes: The most important feature of this release is that ArchView can
handle ISO CD image files. The toolbar appearance was improved. Some bugs
were fixed.

[005] - Big Medium 2.0.3 (Stable)
by Josh Clark (http://freshmeat.net/users/joshclark/)
Thu, Jul 10th 2008 13:12
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: Big Medium is a content management system aimed squarely at Web
designers who want a CMS that enables extremely flexible designs but
remains easy to set up without programming skills. The software does not
impose cookie-cutter layouts: If you bring basic to intermediate HTML/CSS
know-how, Big Medium can manage just about any design you throw at it. Once
the designer configures the templates, he or she can hand the site over to
content editors; no technical know-how is required to add or edit pages.
Big Medium's friendly, humane interface is easy and non-threatening for CMS
newbies.
Changes: This is a bugfix update that addresses a few lingering
compatibility issues with Firefox 3, fixes a bug that caused a small number
of Big Medium sites to refuse to open in Internet Explorer, and adds
several other changes.

System :: Archiving
About: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs/DVDs with a
CDR/CDRW/DVD recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications.
It supports CD/DVD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc-
and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features include
IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed
CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW,
TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools includes remote
SCSI support and can access local or remote CD/DVD writers.
Changes: A workaround was added for some Linux filesystems that do not
deliver "." and ".." first with readdir(). The -x pattern was fixed not to
exclude "." and "..". The "make install" target now installs the libscg
include files into $(INS_BASE)/include/scg/. config.guess now supports the
"free" Apple Darwin variants.

Software Development
About: Coadunation is a platform independent server that was designed from
the ground up to provide an easy way to develop and deploy both Web
applications and daemons in a seamless standardized environment. This makes
it easier for sysadmins, developers, and end users. Out of the box, it
provides, an email server, a DNS server, a Webmail frontend, an application
server, and more.
Changes: This version focused on adding a Relational Database
authentication and authorization source alongside the existing XML source.
It also provides a major fix to the email server to enable it to deploy on
case sensitive file systems. This fix affects all Unix based and Unix-like
systems other than Mac OS X, as later version provide a case insensitive
file system.

by VonRoeschlaub (http://freshmeat.net/users/vonroeschlaub/)
Thu, Jul 10th 2008 11:42
Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries
About: ConfigLib is a C++ library for reading and writing standard Unix
and Windows .INI configuration files as easily as declaring a variable. It
provides all the objects necessary to read any setting from a configuration
file and write out changes while preserving comments. Using templates, any
serializable object or primitive can be read from a configuration file and
parsed automatically via the command line. It also includes common objects
for handling settings beyond those of the C primitives.
Changes: This update adds a new class for reading an enumerable
configuration option. The configenum class allows the creation of a
collection of strings that map to a numeric index. This is useful as a
shortcut for rapidly adding a configuration setting which allows a finite
number of named options and manipulating them as numeric values or a C++
enumeration.

Thu, Jul 10th 2008 17:26
About: Detangler is a Java Swing thread debugger. No changes to your code
are needed to find the exact line where a bug is. Detangler solves problems
such as incomplete and incorrect displays, events happening in the wrong
order, gray windows, lockups, and slow response that gets slower with more
use. These symptoms are usually caused by incorrect Swing threading, and
thread bugs are the hardest to find. Detangler finds those tough bugs for
you so that your application runs smoothly and quickly.
Changes: Automatically detects the program name, classpath, and working
directory after user selects the main class or jar file. The license has
been fixed so that commercial software can be used with Detangler. This
release is started from the installer and requests feedback if uninstalled.

Security :: Cryptography
About: ipt_pkd is an iptables extension implementing port knock detection
with SPA (single packet authorization). This project provides 3 parts: the
kernel module ipt_pkd, the iptables user space module libipt_pkd.so, and a
user space client knock program. For the knock packet, it uses a UDP packet
sent to a random port that contains a SHA-256 of a timestamp, small header,
random bytes, and a shared key. ipt_pkd checks the time window of the
packet and does the SHA-256 to verify the packet. The shared key is never
sent.
Changes: The option of setting a window to 0 to skip time check was added,
which is useful for virtual machines where the clocks aren't in sync. The
documentation was updated. The DROP target was switched to REJECT in
--with-reject tcp-reset. This makes the port look like no service is
running instead of a filtered service.

[027] - m0n0wall 1.3b12 (Beta)
by Manuel Kasper (http://freshmeat.net/users/neon1/)
Thu, Jul 10th 2008 20:23
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: m0n0wall is an all-in-one firewall software package that is based
on FreeBSD. It is geared towards embedded PCs, but it also works on
standard PCs. It includes an easy-to-use Web interface like commercial
firewall boxes do. PHP is used instead of shell scripts, and the entire
system configuration is stored in a single XML-formatted file. There is
support for VPN, traffic shaping, captive portal, VLANs, and more.
Changes: This beta release adds IPv6 support (routing and firewalling,
static and 6to4), adds the ability to generate self-signed SSL certificates
for the Web GUI, and fixes some minor bugs.

System :: Filesystems
About: MinorFS combines a small set of cooperating userspace filesystems
for Linux that provide private storage to pseudo persistent processes. This
allows programs that are run by a user to keep some data safe from all
potential malware that runs with all this users' privileges. It further
implements simple password capabilities as a way to explicitly share access
with other processes or users.
Changes: The 0.3.2 version was tested only on SUSE 10.3. This release
includes fixes for problems running MinorFs on a few other distributions.
It has been confirmed to run on SUSE 10.3, SUSE 11.0, and Debian etch.

[029] - Mnemosyne Project 1.0.2
by Peter Bienstman (http://freshmeat.net/users/pbienst/)
Thu, Jul 10th 2008 17:30
Education :: Computer Aided Instruction (CAI)
About: The Mnemosyne software resembles a traditional flash card program
to help you memorize question/answer pairs, but with an important twist: it
uses a sophisticated algorithm to schedule the best time for a card to come
up for review. Difficult cards that you tend to forget quickly will be
scheduled more often, while Mnemosyne won't waste your time on things you
remember well.
Changes: Import/export support for CueCard wcu files. Features to improve
the display of map cards from svgtoquiz. Support for a Mac installer
through py2app. The compression format of the backups has been changed from
bz2 to gz. This results in less compression, but a much faster program
exit. Polish, Japanese, Persian, and Brazilian Portuguese translations have
been added.

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Internet
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: mxallowd is a daemon for Linux Netfilter (using libnetfilter-queue)
and BSD pf (using pflog) which implements a slightly improved nolisting
mechanism. It requires your name server to be configured to return two MX
IP addresses, and the one with higher priority must not run a mail server
on port 25. mxallowd blocks attempts to connect to the mail server unless
the sender tries to connect to the first mail server before the second.
Since most spammers will attempt direct connections to each mail server,
they will be blocked.
Changes: Besides fixing a bug in the IPv6 implementation, this release
adds support for NetBSD and OpenBSD (probably FreeBSD as well, but this has
not been tested) using pflog.

System :: Archiving :: Backup
Utilities
About: mylvmbackup is a Perl script for quickly creating backups of a
MySQL server's data files. To perform a backup, mylvmbackup obtains a read
lock on all tables and flushes all server caches to disk, makes an LVM
snapshot of the volume containing the MySQL data directory, and unlocks the
tables again. The snapshot process takes only a small amount of time. When
it is done, the server can continue normal operations while the actual file
backup proceeds.
Changes: This release adds support for an rsync:// service as the backup
destination. It adds support for calling external script hooks. The
documentation has been updated.

[041] - SymPy 0.6.0
by Ondrej Certik (http://freshmeat.net/users/ocertik/)
Thu, Jul 10th 2008 13:10
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries
About: SymPy is a symbolic manipulation package, written in pure Python.
Its aim is to become a full featured CAS in Python, while keeping the code
as simple as possible in order to be comprehensible and easily extensible.
Currently, Sympy has only around 1600 lines of code (including comments),
and its capabilities include basic arithmetics, basic simplification,
series expansion, functions (exp, ln, sin, cos, tan, etc.),
differentiation, integration (currently it can do only very simple
integrals), basic substitution, arbitrary precision integers and rationals,
standard (Python) floats, basic complex numbers, and symbolic limits.
Changes: All documentation wiki pages were moved to docs.sympy.org. mpmath
was integrated in SymPy, and the numerics module was removed. mpmath can
use gmpy optionally, thus calculating 1000000 digits of pi in 7.5s. Common
subexpression elimination was implemented. Roots, RootsOf, and RootSum were
implemented. lambdify() now accepts Matrices. Matrices were polished and
sped up. The source command was implemented. Polys were made the default
polynomials in SymPy. Add, Mul, Pow now accept an "evaluate=False"
argument. A lot of bugs were fixed.
