Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Raster-Based
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: Fotoxx is a program for improving digital photos. It allows you to
navigate through large image directories using a window of thumbnail
images, create HDR (high dynamic range) images by combining bright and dark
images to improve details visible in both bright and dark areas, create
panoramas by joining overlapped images, adjust brightness and color
intensity independently for different underlying brightness levels, reduce
fog or haze by removing "whiteness" and intensifying colors, rotate an
image (level a tilted image or turn 90 degrees), remove red-eyes from
electronic flash photos, sharpen, resize, or crop images, reduce noise in
low-light photos, change color depth, and stretch an image by dragging the
mouse.

Changes: A French user manual was added. A new function was added to
"flatten" the brightness distribution using a sliding scale from 0% (no
change) to 100% (uniform distribution). This is a fast method for bringing
out detail in areas that are too dark, too bright, or have little contrast.
A few other minor improvements and fixes were added.

Changes: A fix for a problem where the master key was not being checked
for "bad key" and fixes for bugs in stats output (the thread output was
wrong). It was clarified that MEMCACHED_BAD_KEY_PROVIDED is returned for
bad prefix keys. A bug in Flags return was fixed along with an issue with
compiling on Visual Studio.

Multimedia
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion
Multimedia :: Video

About: LiVES is a simple to use yet powerful video effects, editing,
conversion, and playback system aimed at the digital video artist and VJ.
It uses commonly available tools (Mplayer, ImageMagick, and GTK+), so it
works on most Unix-like systems. It runs under Linux, BSD, Mac OS X/Darwin,
IRIX, and openMosix. It can handle almost all types of video, and is fully
extendable through plugins and the included plugin builder tool. It can
also be controlled remotely using OSC.

Changes: Real-time effects were optimized. A WAV audio loading bug was
fixed. Crashes/hangs on undo-cut, undo-delete-audio, cancel-Resize all
Frames, and some RFX plugins were fixed. Rendering quality is improved.
LiVES to LiVES streaming has been implemented. A preview quality setting
was added to preferences. The video playback plugin API was frozen.
Advanced playback plugin settings were added in Preferences. Resize, Trim
Frames, and Rotate tools were updated. Colour replace, sepia, and skip
ahead effects were added. The French and Portuguese translations were
updated, the GUI polished, and various minor bugs fixed.

[027] - MeTA1 1.0.PreAlpha27.0
  by Claus Assmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/casmx/)
  Tue, Jul 15th 2008 09:25

About: MeTA1 is a modularized message transfer agent (MTA) consisting of
five (or more) persistent processes, four of which are multi-threaded. A
queue manager controls SMTP servers and SMTP clients to receive and send
email messages, an address resolver provides lookups in various maps
(including DNS) for mail routing, and a main control program starts the
other processes and watches over their execution. The queue manager
organizes the flow of messages through the system and provides measures to
avoid overloading the local or remote systems by implementing a central
control instance. It is simple to configure using a C-like syntax and is
secure and efficient.

Changes: This version is the first step towards anti-spam measures per
recipient using smtps_rcpt_conf as a tag in the access map. For now only
greylisting can be requested, but further development is planned.

[036] - QMC2 0.2 beta 3
  by Prian (http://freshmeat.net/users/prianthefist/)
  Tue, Jul 15th 2008 20:44

System :: Emulators

About: M.A.M.E. Catalog / Launcher II (also referred to as QMC2) is the
successor of one of the first XMAME GUI frontends available, QMamecat
(derived from MAMECAT, which was text-only). QMC2 has been rebuilt from
scratch as a Qt 4 project. Parts of the design and code were inspired by
its predecessor. The new design was made as flexible as possible to
minimize dependencies from frontend- and CLI-related MAME changes, which
was a major deficiency of QMamecat. QMC2 uses a template-based MAME
configuration scheme, which can easily be enhanced with additional command
line options (defined in an XML template file).

Changes: Direct GUI control via digital and analog joysticks through SDL.
Optional use of OpenGL to draw images. Support for MAME's history.dat and
mameinfo.dat information databases. Full screen toggle for the main widget.
Style handling has been improved to allow for on-the-fly switching to the
system's default GUI style. Improved window flags to better handle
individual windows. Architecture-independant OS detection. Several widget
restoration bugs have been fixed, as well as a number of other/older bugs.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Office/Business :: Financial

About: Quick.Cart is a small, simple, and multilingual shopping cart
script. It offers plenty of options. It is very easy to setup and install,
based on Flat Files, XHTML 1.1 compliant, WAI compliant, and very easy to
customize. It has good support via email and forums, a WYSIWYG editor, SEO
tools, no limits to products and pages depth, no limit to images per page,
and more.

Changes: New pages and product files list management, new "Display files
from server in form" and "Change files name to page and product name"
options in settings, the ability to add carriers to payment methods, a
htaccess file in "templates/" that disables viewing of template files for
security reasons, and a few small bugfixes. The tinyMCE editor was updated

[038] - rsyslog 3.19.10 (Beta)
  by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
  Tue, Jul 15th 2008 17:18

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among others, it
offers support for on-demand disk buffering, reliable syslog over TCP, SSL,
TLS, and RELP, writing to databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and many
more), email alerting, fully configurable output formats (including
high-precision timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message, on-the-wire message compression, and the ability to convert text
files to syslog. It is a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and able to
work with the same configuration file syntax.

Changes: This release starts a new iteration of the beta branch, bringing
all the features of the previous development version to the beta. It
contains all features from 3.19.9 and a number of bugfixes. The most
important one is for a bad memory leak that occurred if queues were running
in one of the disk-queuing modes. Also, a number of cross-platform problems
on FreeBSD were sorted out. This is a suggested update for all beta branch
users.

[045] - Word War vi 0.19
  by Stephen Cameron (http://freshmeat.net/users/StephenCameron/)
  Tue, Jul 15th 2008 17:12

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade

About: Word War vi is a side-scrolling shoot 'em up '80s style arcade
game. You pilot your "vi"per craft through core memory, rescuing lost .swp
files, avoiding OS defenses, and wiping out those memory hogging emacs
processes. When all the lost .swp files are rescued, head for the socket
which will take you to the next node in the cluster.

Changes: Improved collision detection. It is easier to enter the "socket"
at the end of each level. A less annoying missile alarm sound is used.
Missiles turn a bit more realistically. Shorts are used instead of ints in
point structure for a very slight increase in performance. Now high scores
are saved in ~/.wordwarvi/.highscores.
