Software Development :: Refactoring
About: CScout is a source code analyzer and refactoring browser for
collections of C programs. It can process workspaces of multiple projects,
mapping the complexity introduced by the C preprocessor back into the
original C source code files. CScout performs an analysis of C source code
that is more detailed and accurate than current compilers and linkers, as
it takes into account the identifier scopes introduced by the C
preprocessor and the C language proper scopes and namespaces.
Changes: This version adds support for function argument refactoring.
Furthermore, a new option controls the depth of function and macro call
graphs, which are now fully browsable in SVG-enabled browsers. In addition,
the Web front-end provides support for hand-editing of files, source code
directory browsing, and functionality to interactively explore the tree of
a function's calling and called functions. Finally, the processing engine
includes support for gcc's include_next directive and for the preprocessor
conditionals within macro invocations extension.

Thu, Jul 17th 2008 09:12
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: LimeSurvey (formerly PHPSurveyor) is a Web application that
interacts with MySQL, MSSQL, or Postgres to develop surveys, publish
surveys, and collect responses to surveys. Once a survey has been created,
data can be inserted into the survey either by a "pretty" public screen
which presents each question one at a time, or by a quick and nasty data
entry screen. It includes the capacity to generate individualized "tokens",
so that invitations can be issued to participants. It also has the capacity
to set conditions on whether questions will display (branching), numerous
question types, and a basic statistics function.
Changes: The dropdown-date attribute now cancels its mandatory
characteristic on a date type question. A JavaScript Error with Array
Filter was fixed along with a related error where missing array_filter
values were causing JavaScript to crash. It now also checks for existence
of an object before testing its value. Bugs in RTL language display were
fixed. Active question attributes when conditional questions should be
skipped were fixed. It is now checked that the display value is turned on
before running validation. There were other minor fixes.

[032] - rdiff-backup 1.1.17 (Development)
by Andrew Ferguson (http://freshmeat.net/users/adferguson/)
Thu, Jul 17th 2008 15:09
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
Utilities
About: rdiff-backup backs up one directory to another. The target
directory ends up a copy of the source directory, but extra reverse diffs
are stored in a special directory so you can still recover files lost some
time ago. The idea is to combine the best features of a mirror and an
incremental backup. rdiff-backup can also operate in a bandwidth- efficient
manner over a pipe, like rsync. Thus you can use rdiff-backup and ssh to
securely back up to a remote location, and only the differences will be
transmitted. It can also handle symlinks, device files, permissions,
ownership, etc., so it can be used on the entire file system.
Changes: Native Windows support is now complete. Significant optimization
was done to the --check-destination function when the rdiff-backup
repository is not corrupt. Various bug were fixed to better handle corrupt
metadata or to continue when small errors happen. This release should be
considered a release candidate for the new stable branch.

[033] - Search::Xapian 1.0.7.0
by Olly Betts (http://freshmeat.net/users/OllyBetts/)
Thu, Jul 17th 2008 15:23
Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
About: Search::Xapian is a Perl XS frontend to the Xapian C++ search
library. It is a fairly complete wrapper: most features of the Xapian
library are made available for use from Perl. Xapian is a highly adaptable
toolkit that allows developers to easily add advanced indexing and search
facilities to their own applications. It supports the Probabilistic
Information Retrieval model as well as a rich set of boolean query
operators. It's fast and scalable to hundreds of millions of documents.
Changes: Exceptions from the Xapian::Stem constructor are now handled.
Testcase t/parser.t has been fixed to reflect improved behavior of
xapian-core. @Search::Xapian::DB_NAMES is actually populated.
Search::Xapian::Query->new(OP, TERMS) now allows integers and numbers as
terms, which are coerced to strings as with standard Perl parameter
passing.

[034] - stdnoj cygwin summer 2008
by R. A. Nagy (http://freshmeat.net/users/randall_nagy/)
Thu, Jul 17th 2008 20:05
Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: POP3
Communications :: Usenet News
About: stdnoj is a cross-platform C++ class library that includes classes
for using portable strings, databases, SMTP, POP, NNTP, arrays, files,
directories, logging, email, and sockets. While templates are used, no
reliance upon STL or other (traditionally error-prone) technologies has
been used, which increases portability between compilers.
Changes: Everything has been pulled out of CVS to create another official
release. The project is now twice the size of the Octoberfest 2006 release.
The shell scripts and targets have been added into CVS for faster DJGPP,
Unix, and Cygwin work (G++). OS X (Mac) support is looking very promising.
Win32 targets remain robust for Borland/CodeGear, Microsoft Visual Studio,
Intel, and GCC.

[035] - Topal 62
by Phil Brooke (http://freshmeat.net/users/philb328/)
Thu, Jul 17th 2008 17:45
Communications :: Email
About: Topal is yet another program that links GnuPG and Pine/Alpine. It
offers facilities to encrypt, decrypt, sign, and verify messages. Multiple
PGP blocks included in the text of a message are processed. Decryption and
verification output can be cached to reduce the number of times the
passphrase is entered. RFC2015/3156 multipart messages can be sent and
received with help from some scripts, procmail, and a patch to Pine/Alpine.
It includes basic support for verifying S/MIME multipart/signed messages.
There is a remote sending mode for reading email on a distant computer via
SSH with secret keys on the local computer. There is a high level of
configurability.
Changes: This release adds basic support for S/MIME verification of
(multipart/signed) messages. It improves the quoted-printable encoder (in
MIME-tool). It fixes decoding of messages for run-mailcap. Some internal
changes have been made to configuration handling.

[036] - TrueCrypt 6.0
by lanjelot (http://freshmeat.net/users/lanjelot/)
Thu, Jul 17th 2008 15:12
Office/Business
Security
Security :: Cryptography
About: TrueCrypt is on-the-fly disk encryption software that can create a
virtual encrypted disk within a file and mount it as a real disk. It can
also encrypt an entire hard disk partition, or a storage device such as USB
memory stick. It supports plausible deniability.
Changes: Parallelized encryption and decryption was introduced on
multi-core processors (or multi-processor systems). The increase in
encryption/decryption speed is directly proportional to the number of cores
and/or processors. New features include the ability to create and run an
encrypted hidden operating system whose existence is impossible to prove
(provided that certain guidelines are followed), the ability to encrypt an
entire system drive even if it contains extended partitions, and a new
volume format that increases reliability, performance, and expandability.

server or under the control of another Web server with FastCGI support
(e.g. Apache with mod_fastcgi). It has support for various LDAPv3 bind
methods and a powerful built-in schema browser. HTML templates are
supported for displaying and editing entries, and LDIF templates can be
used for quickly adding new entries. A built-in X.509 parser displays a
detailed view of certificates and CRLs with active links.
Changes: This release adds support for using the tree delete control when
deleting subtrees.
