Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: aria2 is a utility for downloading files. The supported protocols
are HTTP(S), FTP, BitTorrent, and Metalink. It has a powerful segmented
downloading ability, downloading a file from multiple sources and multiple
protocols and utilizing your download bandwidth to the maximum. It supports
downloading a file from HTTP(S)/FTP and BitTorrent at the same time, while
the data downloaded from HTTP(S)/FTP is uploaded to the BitTorrent swarm.
Using Metalink's chunk checksums, aria2 automatically validates chunks of
data while downloading a file like BitTorrent.

Changes: This release fixes broken gzip inflation, lowers CPU usage, and
has submitted patches applied. Bulgarian and French translations were
updated.

  Thu, Jul 31st 2008 17:50

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: News/Diary

About: Blosxom (pronounced "Blossom") is a lightweight yet feature-packed
Weblog application designed from the ground up with simplicity, usability,
and interoperability in mind. Fundamental is its reliance upon the file
system, folders, and files as its content database. Users can create, edit,
rename, and delete entries on the command-line, via FTP, WebDAV, or
anything else they might use to manipulate their files.

Changes: isPermalink has been changed back to "false" for the default RSS
story template because it won't be a working link in many situations. This
won't change the GUID, but don't let it be used as a link anymore. The no
longer working manual base URL detection code has been rewritten. It is
simpler, easier to understand, and only applies if the base URL is not set
manually.

[004] - Butterfly Container 2.3.9-beta
  by Jakob Jenkov (http://freshmeat.net/users/jjenkov/)
  Thu, Jul 31st 2008 14:09

About: Butterfly Container is a Java dependency injection container. It is
smaller (~100KB jar), yet more flexible and easier to use than Spring,
Pico, and Guice (at least in the developers' opinion). Instead of XML,
Butterfly Container is configured using a simple, flexible, Java-like
configuration language, or by plugging plain non-annotation, non-reflection
Java factories into the container. There are no external dependencies.

Changes: This version brings improved error messages during factory script
parsing. Earlier, the parser did not always tell you the name of the
factory in which the parsing error was encountered. This has been improved.

  Thu, Jul 31st 2008 04:24

Internet
Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: FireHOL a simple yet powerful way to configure stateful iptables
firewalls. It can be used for almost any purpose, including control of any
number of internal/external/virtual interfaces, control of any combination
of routed traffic, setting up DMZ routers and servers, and all kinds of
NAT. It provides strong protection (flooding, spoofing, etc.), transparent
caches, source MAC verification, blacklists, whitelists, and more. Its goal
is to be completely abstracted and powerful but also easy to use, audit,
and understand.

Changes: This version was updated to parse the latest format of the IANA
reservations page. Support for custom actions for services was added. This
opens a way to allow actions that can be controlled externally without
restarting the firewall. Several minor issues were fixed, providing better
NAT support for all services, handling for external pager commands, kernel
config parsing, a config wizard, etc.

  Thu, Jul 31st 2008 17:22

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Multimedia :: Graphics

About: GeoServer connects your information to the Geospatial Web. With
GeoServer, you can publish and edit data using open standards. Your
information is made available in a large variety of formats as maps/images
or actual geospatial data. GeoServer's transactional capabilities offer
robust support for shared editing. It supports WFS-T and WMS open protocols
from the OGC to produce JPEG, PNG, SVG, KML/KMZ, GML, PDF, Shapefiles,
GeoRSS, JSON, and more. It is built on the GeoTools2 Java GIS toolkit.

Changes: KML regionating has been optimized and per-layer security
enhanced. Regionating is the process of automatically filtering what data
is shown based on an attribute of that data (e.g. only showing large
features when zoomed out). Currently regionating is only functional for KML
output, but this may eventually change. Per-layer security allows for
layers to be viewable based on certain security credentials.

[025] - MIB Smithy 4.1
  by Muonics, Inc. (http://freshmeat.net/users/muonics/)
  Thu, Jul 31st 2008 04:22

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
System :: Networking

About: MIB Smithy is an application for SNMP and COPS developers, MIB and
PIB designers, and Internet-draft authors. It provides a GUI-based
environment for designing, editing, and compiling MIB and PIB modules
according to the SMIv1, SMIv2, and COPS-PR-SPPI standards. It accelerates
the development process by providing an easy-to-use GUI-based environment
for developing the specifications without the syntax and formatting
concerns of editing the modules by hand. It includes a number of built-in
basic SNMP management tools, XML support, and (with MIB Smithy
Professional) support for custom compiler output formats.

Changes: Left/right key bindings were added to the Project Tree for
navigation. Bugs were fixed in configuring project dependencies under Unix,
errors that could occur during output generation or editing of records to
correct illegally capitalized identifiers, and minor usability issues. This
release also incorporates bugfixes and enhancements to the SNMP tools
shared with MIB Views 1.4 and core bugfixes of MIB Smithy SDK 3.4.4.

[026] - MIB Smithy SDK 3.4.4
  by Muonics, Inc. (http://freshmeat.net/users/muonics/)
  Thu, Jul 31st 2008 04:22

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Tcl Extensions

About: MIB Smithy SDK is a dynamic extension to Tcl/Tk (8.1+) that allows
development of custom scripts for controlling SNMP agents, manipulating SMI
definitions, doing conversions, and more. It is based on the core of
Muonics' MIB Smithy, and the SDK supports SMIv1 and SMIv2, as well as
SNMPv1/v2c/v3 with HMAC-SHA-96 and HMAC-MD5-96 authentication and CBC-DES
privacy. It also provides complete read-write access to all elements of
SMI/MIB Module definitions, unlike similar extensions that provide only
read access to a limited subset. The SDK allows multiple discrete SMI
databases and SNMP sessions, and provides all of the built-in validation
and error recovery capabilites of the full product, without the visual MIB
development environment.

Changes: Several bugs in the SMI parser, XML-SMI parser, and notification
handling were fixed. Some MIB database querying APIs were made more
flexible. Documentation was updated with example corrections and more
logging features added in an earlier release.

  Thu, Jul 31st 2008 20:32

Software Development :: Assemblers
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: Neko is a high-level dynamically typed programming language. It can
be used as an embedded scripting language. It has been designed to provide
a common runtime for several different languages. Learning and using Neko
is very easy. You can easily extend the language with C libraries. You can
also write generators from your own language to Neko and then use the Neko
Runtime to compile, run, and access existing libraries. Neko is a good way
for language designers to focus on design and reuse a fast and
well-designed runtime, as well as existing libraries for accessing
filesystem, network, databases, XML, etc. It has a compiler and a virtual
machine. The virtual machine is very lightweight and well optimized. The VM
can be easily embedded into any application, and your libraries can be
accessed using the C foreign function interface.

Changes: Several small bugfixes and some new APIs for multithread
programming (mutexes, deque, and TLS).

[036] - SCSS 0.3.1
  by Julian Graham (http://freshmeat.net/users/joolean/)
  Thu, Jul 31st 2008 04:25

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: SCSS is a Guile Scheme module for parsing, querying, and emitting
style information compatible with the W3C Cascading Stylesheets
recommendation. While SCSS does not itself provide any rendering
functionality, it can provide style information to applications and
libraries that do. If used with XML documents produced by SXML or SDOM,
SCSS can accomodate the full range of selector types described in the W3C
recommendation. It can also match simple selectors against strings when
structured document information is not available.

Changes: The codebase has been completely reorganized to facilitate
porting to other Scheme interpreters. The selection algorithm has been
modified to support intelligent caching of style information related to
pseudo-elements, obviating the need for user management of the style cache.
The lexer has been rewritten by hand, resulting in a smaller and slightly
more efficient implementation.

  Thu, Jul 31st 2008 04:25

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: The Cell Messaging Layer is a communication library for clusters of
Cell Broadband Engine processors. It implements a subset of the popular MPI
message-passing API on the Cell's SPE processors, with one MPI rank per SPE
across any number of Cells and the ability for any SPE to communicate
directly with any other SPE, even across a network. The Cell Messaging
Layer thereby makes programming clusters of Cell processors similar to
programming clusters of conventional CPUs.

Changes: The build process is now more robust to incorrect timestamps on
files and is slightly better at constructing some of the Makefile build
variables. A CMLDACSTHREADED environment variable has been introduced to
control whether DaCS should surround all of its internal operations with
locks. An end-of-run race condition has been fixed. CML has been tested on
the full, 12,240-Cell Roadrunner supercomputer.

About: xlax is an X11 input multiplexer: it sends your keyboard input from
the xlax window to a group of windows simultaneously. The tool is designed
for system administrators who typically have to do the same thing on
several machines (or in several different directories). Windows can be
added or deleted interactively, or temporarily disconnected and
reconnected. xlax allows you to assign a custom string to each window (e.g.
a hostname) that can be sent with a button click. An included script
handles starting up and arranging windows, and allows you to set up
commonly used window groupings in a config file.

Changes: Pasting the current selection and using Send String were both
broken for anything except alphanumeric characters. This is now fixed, and
all 7-bit characters should be handled correctly.
