Information Management
About: AgileWiki is meant to create software systems which are fluid,
easily configured and can be reorganized on-the-fly to meet ever changing
requirements. It includes a COW-based database, the Rolonics programming
paradigm, and semantic inferencing.
Changes: Any program can now be run using a generic Main.main. A new
integration with Swing has begun. ThreadPool is now part of ArkRoot for
reduced locking overhead and greater flexibility.

[003] - clone2fs 1.2.0
by Michael Riepe (http://freshmeat.net/users/tootired/)
Sat, Aug 23rd 2008 19:13
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: Clone2fs copies an ext2/ext3 file system to another volume or an
image file. Unlike dd, clone2fs does not copy the whole volume but only
blocks that are actually in use. Therefore, it is usually faster. It's also
faster than dump/restore, tar, or similar backup software because it
accesses the source and destination volumes sequentially most of the time.

[016] - mpmath 0.9
by Fredrik Johansson (http://freshmeat.net/users/fredrik_j/)
Sat, Aug 23rd 2008 19:21
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: Mpmath is a pure-Python library for arbitrary-precision
floating-point arithmetic. It implements the standard functions from
Python's math and cmath modules (exp, log, sin, etc.), plus a few
nonelementary special functions (gamma, zeta, etc.), and has utilities for
arbitrary-precision numerical differentiation, integration, root-finding,
and interval arithmetic. It supports unlimited exponent sizes, has full
support for complex numbers, and offers better performance than Python's
standard decimal library. Mpmath is lightweight and easy to install or
include in other software due to being written entirely in Python with no
additional dependencies.
Changes: Mpmath now transparently uses GMP integers instead of Python's
builtin integers if GMPY is installed. This makes mpmath much faster at
high precision. Many new functions have been added, including Jacobi
elliptic functions, various exponential integrals, Airy functions, etc. New
basic utility functions have been added, like cube root, log10, etc.

Internet :: Proxy Servers
About: Tor-ramdisk is an i686 uClibc-based micro Linux distribution whose
only purpose is to host a Tor server in an environment that maximizes
security and privacy. Tor is a network of virtual tunnels that allows
people and groups to improve their privacy and security on the Internet.
Security is enhanced in tor-ramdisk by employing a monolithically compiled
GRSEC/PAX patched kernel and hardened system tools. Privacy is enhanced by
turning off logging at all levels so that even the Tor operator only has
access to minimal information. Finally, since everything runs in ephemeral
memory, no information survives a reboot, except for the Tor configuration
file and the private RSA key, which may be exported/imported by FTP.
Changes: This release updates tor to 0.2.0.30, busybox to 1.11.1, and the
kernel to 2.6.24.7 + Gentoo's hardened-patches-2.6.24-4.extras. OpenNTPD

Sat, Aug 23rd 2008 19:18
Database :: API
Office/Business :: Financial :: Investment
About: The trading shim is a command line interpreter with a DBMS backend
to the socket-based 'binary format' API of the Interactive Brokers' Trader
Workstation. It uses mnemonic ASCII text commands to permit downstream
clients to easily access several worldwide securities markets and exchanges
(stocks, options, futures, bonds, and Forex) for "tick" data and history
(intraday and EoD). It also allows clients to initiate and supervise trades
of securities, manage accounts, and more.
Changes: The project is almost feature complete, with nearly all
functional elements implemented, on the road to moving the project out of
Beta status, and into a formal production-ready stable API and database
layout. Initialization defaults were modified. The Document HistoryBar
database table was unloaded and restored. Bulletin exchange parsing was
extended. 64-bit memory handling was partially cleaned up. A currency type
checking bug was fixed. The multiple data mode ClientID connection logic
was automated.

Software Development :: Quality Assurance
About: xTests is a small, simple, lightweight, portable unit/component
testing library for exercising C and C++ libraries. It relies on no
platform-specific or compiler-specific constructs and doesn't require
pre-processing of your source code by scripting languages or use macros to
create secret classes that use Schwarz counters to register test cases. It
relies on you to simply code what you want, and nothing that you don't
want.
Changes: This release adds a call to XTESTS_TEST_PASSED() when an expected
exception is received, adds more integer specializations of
xtests_failure_reporter<>, and fixes a defect in the approximate comparison
of negative floating-point numbers.
