[012] - deco file extraction framework 1.5.2
  by P. Hartlich (http://freshmeat.net/users/phartlich/)
  Sun, Aug 24th 2008 21:38

System :: Archiving

About: deco is a command-line program that, together with the deco-archive
package, allows you extract dozens of popular archive file formats. It has
a consistent interface ("deco 1.tar.bz2 2.rar 3.zip 4.flac 5.deb") and
consistent behavior (never deleting archives after extraction and
extracting relative to the current working directory, just verbosely
enough, all unless explicitly requested otherwise). It creates an
extraction directory if there is more than one file or directory at the
archive top level, and it is able to fix strange permissions.

Changes: This release avoids relying on undefined behavior on platforms
where the char type is signed. About a dozen lines of code have been
removed.

  Sun, Aug 24th 2008 21:52

Multimedia :: Video :: Conversion

About: DeVeDe is a program to create video DVDs (compatible with home
players) from nearly any video format. It only uses Python, MPlayer,
Mencoder, DVDAuthor, VCDImager, and mkisofs, so it has very few
dependencies.

Changes: This release recovers the menu options when loading a disc
structure. The appearance has been changed to add more eye candy. This
release shows the menu's NTSC preview at the right size. It shows the
menu's title typography. It adds compatibility with GenISOimage. It has
better code to avoid antialiasing when creating the menu entries. It limits
the number of files to 61 to avoid problems with DVDAuthor.

[014] - dhcpcd 4.0.0
  by Roy Marples (http://freshmeat.net/users/uberl0rd/)
  Sun, Aug 24th 2008 21:51

About: dhcpcd is an RFC2131 compliant DHCP client. It is fully featured
and yet lightweight: the binary is 46k as reported by size(1) on Linux
i386. It has support for duplicate address detection, IPv4LL, carrier
detection, and a merged resolv.conf and ntp.conf for which other DHCP
clients require third party tools.

Changes: dhclient style scripting support. IPv4LL support now passes
Apple's Bonjour Conformance test. Internal support for managing multiple
resolv.conf and ntp.conf files. Link carrier detection. Smaller binary size
(now 46k on Linux/i386). Works with NetworkManager 0.7 as an alternative to
dhclient.

[015] - DocBook Doclet 5.0.0
  by Michael Fuchs (http://freshmeat.net/users/mfuchs/)
  Sun, Aug 24th 2008 21:43

Software Development :: Documentation
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
Utilities

About: The DocBook Doclet creates DocBook XML from Java source
documentation or HTML files. It is helpful if you want to create reference
handbooks of your API. Normally it is used with the Javadoc tool but it can
also be used as a standalone application to convert HTML to DocBook.
Additionally it comes with a Swing application to manage documentation
projects and to transform the resulting DocBook files to PDF, Postscript,
HTML, or JavaHelp.

Changes: Support for DocBook 5.0. Integration of DocBook XSL 1.74.0.
Integration of APache FOP 0.95. Line breaks are enabled inside of synopsis.
Additional spaces before commata in simple lists are removed. &amp#x200b;
(space without width) has been replaced with &amp#x00ad; (soft hyphen)
because of problems in the ToC of PDFs. Generations do not lock the
application anymore. The console is part of the main window again.

[019] - FakeTime Preload Library 0.8
  by Team Code-Wizards (http://freshmeat.net/users/codewizards/)
  Sun, Aug 24th 2008 21:43

Software Development :: Debuggers
System :: Diagnostics
Utilities

About: FTPL (FakeTime Preload Library, aka libfaketime) intercepts various
system library calls and tricks programs of your choice into seeing a faked
system time without having to change the time system-wide. This can be used
for running legacy software with Y2K bugs, testing software for year-2038
compliance, debugging time-related issues such as expired SSL certificates,
and using software that ceases to run outside a certain time frame. The
faked time can be specified either absolutely or relative to the real
current time, and optionally also affects file timestamps. The faked clock
continues to run, but can optionally be frozen, slowed down, or made
faster. A wrapper script "faketime" simplifies the usage, similar to tools
such as fakechroot.

Changes: This version adds support to speed up/slow down the system clock,
intercepts calls to the new system functions fstatat() and fstatat64(),
allows fractional values for offset specification, and comes with a new
wrapper script and a man page for eased system-wide installation and use.

  Sun, Aug 24th 2008 13:29

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Raster-Based
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: Fotoxx is a program for improving digital photos. It allows you to
navigate through large image directories using a window of thumbnail
images, create HDR (high dynamic range) images by combining bright and dark
images to improve details visible in both bright and dark areas, create
panoramas by joining overlapped images, adjust brightness and color
intensity independently for different underlying brightness levels, reduce
fog or haze by removing "whiteness" and intensifying colors, rotate an
image (level a tilted image or turn 90 degrees), remove red-eyes from
electronic flash photos, sharpen, resize, or crop images, reduce noise in
low-light photos, change color depth, and stretch an image by dragging the
mouse.

Changes: This release adds the ability to associate "tags" or keywords
with images, and search for images having desired tags. Matching images are
displayed in a navigation window with thumbnails, where they can be
selected for viewing or editing. A few minor enhancements and bugfixes were
also made.

[022] - fuse-zip 0.2.5
  by Alexander Galanin (http://freshmeat.net/users/agalanin/)
  Sun, Aug 24th 2008 05:05

System :: Filesystems

About: fuse-zip is a FUSE file system to navigate, extract, create, and
modify ZIP archives based on libzip implemented in C++. You can work with
ZIP archives as real directories. Unlike KIO or Gnome VFS, it can be used
in any application without modifications. Unlike other FUSE filesystems,
fuse-zip provides write support for ZIP archives. Also, fuse-zip is faster
than other known implementations on large archives with many files.

Changes: Archives containing files whose parent directory was not present
in the archive were reported as broken. This has been fixed.

[023] - Fusil 1.0beta1
  by Haypo (http://freshmeat.net/users/haypo/)
  Sun, Aug 24th 2008 13:41

About: Fusil is a fuzzing program. Currently, it's specific to Linux
command line programs, but the code is designed to be used with any project
type (remote process, fake HTTP server, fuzz network socket, etc.). It is
based on a multi-agent system instead of a monolithic architecture.

Changes: A fuzzer is now an executable program (instead of a file loaded
by a Fusil script). Child processes are run as a different user and group
to avoid removing arbitrary files or killing arbitrary processes. The
session directory is renamed on success with strings like "invalid_read" or
"timeout". For each session, a shell script is created to replay the
session (and another to replay in gdb). python-ptrace is used to trace
child processes (catch and diplay signals). A configuration file
(~/.config/fusil.conf) is created. A session can be removed even if the
directory contains generated files. There is improved Python 3.0 support.

[026] - JCR 0.6.4
  by John Dickson (http://freshmeat.net/users/captsens/)
  Sun, Aug 24th 2008 13:38

Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: JCR is a Web application for performing and managing formal code
reviews. Although it has some special logic for reviewing Java projects, it
can be used for reviews of any type of source code. JCR manages all stages
of the review process (initial project setup, individual review, joint
review meeting, post-review tidy-up), but it's mainly there to show diff
views of files that have changed and to allow comments to be made on any
line of any file marked for review.

Changes: This release includes the ability to view file diffs as

  Sun, Aug 24th 2008 21:55

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: microQuestMaker64 is a native Commodore 64 application that makes
it easy to design small text adventure games in the tradition of "Zork" or
the legendary "Cave" adventure. It will run in an emulator as well as on
native C64 hardware. At the moment, it supports up to 100 rooms and 30
objects within a single game. Although the program is still incomplete and
under development, you can already edit rooms, define objects, and test-run
your game. Game data is stored in the Commodore "REL" file format, allowing
random access of records.

Changes: Random level generation: you can now randomize up to 100 rooms
instantly, as this release utilizes a simple maze generator. Once the maze
has been calculated, it is written to disk and can directly be used as a
game map.

[037] - Pantheios 1.0.1 beta 150
  by Dr Proctor (http://freshmeat.net/users/DrProctor/)
  Sun, Aug 24th 2008 06:44

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Logging

About: Pantheios is a C/C++ logging API library. It offers an optimal
combination of complete type-safety, very high efficiency, genericity, and
extensibility. It is simple to use and extend, highly portable (platform
and compiler independent), and it upholds the C tradition of only paying
for what you use. Pantheios supports logging of message statements of
arbitrary complexity, consisting of heterogenous types. Pantheios supports
filtering of log messages based on severity level.

Changes: This releases fixes a defect in fe.N, whereby a negative
catch-all severity ceiling (to suspend output from all non-explicit
back-ends) would not be respected. Several other minor adjustments to fe.N
were made. A unit-test for fe.N was added. This release bundles xTests
0.8.5, and requires STLSoft 1.9.48. These are breaking changes: any code
using the extant fe.N front-end library will need to be edited and
recompiled.

About: shd-tcp-tools is a set of TCP network tools that supports port
forwarding, network load balancing, rate limiting, and running servers
behind firewalls. tcp-pf, listentwo, and connecttwo are port forwarding
tools. tcppipe is a one-directional TCP pipe that can be used as a
substitute for one-directional netcat transfers, but with load balancing
and rate control support. tcp-pf can be used to forward a port from one
host to another with load balancing and rate control support. network load
balancing scheme means using an interface or destination host based on past
transfer history. The listentwo and connecttwo tools can be used to run
servers inside firewalled networks through third party TCP proxies.

Changes: This release adds an option to delay incoming connections (-w).
This option can be used to slow down port scanners. The code was cleaned
