[001] - Astaro Command Center 1.820 (Beta)
by astaro (http://freshmeat.net/users/astaro/)
Mon, Aug 25th 2008 08:45
Internet
Security
System :: Networking
About: Astaro Command Center (ACC) is an application for centralized
management of Astaro Security Gateways. With ACC, network administrators
can easily manage and control multiple Astaro devices. The two separated
Web-Based GUIs (WebAdmin and Gateway Manager) enable the split of
ACC-system administration and role-based Gateway monitoring and can be also
implemented in existing Active Directory or eDirectory environments.
provides an effective overview that details the actual health of each
device, swiftly allowing administrators to see which gateways require more
attention or immediate action (by reason of e.g. threat level, license, or
CPU/memory/disk usage). Over the one-click WebAdmin SSO to each connected
gateway, it is possible to react instantly if necessary.
Changes: This is the second Up2Date for the public ACC V1.9 BETA. It
contains bugfixes as well as some small improvements. It will not be
downloaded and installed on ACC V1.4x installations.

Mon, Aug 25th 2008 08:43
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: Astaro Security Linux is an all-in-one network security gateway
that includes a firewall, intrusion protection, virus protection, spam
protection, URL filtering, and a VPN gateway. Features include stateful
packet inspection, deep packet filtering, intrusion detection and
prevention, portscan detection, content filtering, virus detection for
email and Web traffic, profile handling, IPSec, SSL, and PPTP VPN
tunneling, spam blocking, proxies for HTTP, FTP, POP3, SMTP, DNS, VoIP,
SOCKS, and Ident, logging, and reporting. The WebAdmin, the Install Wizard,
and Up2Date service make it easy to install, manage, and update.
Changes: This release focuses on the three main areas of mail security,
authentication, and the UserPortal. Several dozen new features were added
in other minor areas. The database engine and framework was completely
redesigned, leading to massive performance improvements for message
handling, greatly optimized reporting, XAUTH support for IPsec, improved
IM/P2P detection rate and memory usage, and much more.

[004] - BalanceNG 2.180
by Thomas Obermair (http://freshmeat.net/users/thomasobermair/)
Mon, Aug 25th 2008 16:34
Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Weighted Random, Least
Session, Least Bandwidth, Hash, Agent, and Randomized Agent) and a
customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It supports VRRP to set
up high availability configurations on multiple nodes. It supports SNMP,
integrating the BALANCENG-MIB with Net-SNMPD. It implements a very fast
in-memory IP-to-location database, allowing powerful location-based server
load-balancing.
Changes: The command "target <n> ascript" has been added, allowing custom
scripts to collect target specific agent data. An example "snmpload.sh"
script has been included in the distribution (suitable to retrieve Windows
CPU load via SNMP). The target name is now included in the operational/down
log messages. The parameters are now alphabetically sorted. The manual has
been updated to release 2.180.0. The Ubuntu JeOS VMware virtual appliance
has been updated accordingly.

[005] - Bazaar VCS 1.6
by John Arbash Meinel (http://freshmeat.net/users/jameinel/)
Mon, Aug 25th 2008 21:18
Software Development :: Version Control
About: Bazaar is a simple decentralized revision control system.
Decentralized revision control systems give users the ability to branch
remote repositories to a local context. Users can commit to local branches
without requiring special permission from the branches that they branched
from.
Changes: This release includes new features like Stacked Branches,
improved weave merge, and an updated server protocol. Knit format
repositories are deprecated, and it is recommended that users upgrade them.
Future releases will continue to support reading and writing them, but the
authors will not be tuning them for performance as pack repositories have
proven to be better at scaling. This is also the first release to bundle
TortoiseBzr in the stand-alone Windows installer.

[008] - bluelock.pl 0.4
by Peter Willis (http://freshmeat.net/users/psypete/)
Mon, Aug 25th 2008 16:54
Desktop Environment :: Screen Savers
About: bluelock.pl is designed to lock a display or terminal once a
Bluetooth device (like a cell phone) is out of range. The script queries
the RSSI (signal strength) of a Bluetooth device. Once the RSSI passes
above a certain threshold a timer is started, and once the timer expires a
locking program is run.
Changes: This release will not count rfcomm connect time against the
timer. It handles zombies. It uses a different default device name (it is
still uncertain how this works on most systems).

[012] - Butterfly Container 2.4.0
by Jakob Jenkov (http://freshmeat.net/users/jjenkov/)
Mon, Aug 25th 2008 16:25
About: Butterfly Container is a Java dependency injection container. It is
smaller (~100KB jar), yet more flexible and easier to use than Spring,
Pico, and Guice (at least in the developers' opinion). Instead of XML,
Butterfly Container is configured using a simple, flexible, Java-like
configuration language, or by plugging plain non-annotation, non-reflection
Java factories into the container. There are no external dependencies.
Changes: Error messages during container script parsing were much
improved. A few bugs were fixed related to casting to Java primitives in
the scripts.

Mon, Aug 25th 2008 16:31
System :: Shells
System :: Systems Administration
About: CLEX is a file manager with a full-screen user interface written in
C with the curses library. It displays directory contents (including file
status details) and provides features like command history, filename
insertion, or name completion in order to help the user to construct
commands to be executed by the shell (there are no built-in commands). CLEX
is easily configurable and all its features are explained in the on-line
help.
Changes: The configure script was rewritten for better compatibility. All
filter, sort, and compare options have been separated from the
configuration and are now preserved between CLEX sessions. Several
configuration parameters were removed. A message log panel has been added.
The system-wide configuration file was cancelled, so there is no admin
mode. A second information line was added to the user interface.

[022] - fwknop 1.9.7
by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
Mon, Aug 25th 2008 16:36
Security
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: fwknop implements an authorization scheme called Single Packet
Authorization that requires only a single encrypted packet to communicate
various pieces of information, including desired access through an iptables
or ipfw firewall policy and/or specific commands to execute on the target
system. The main application of this program is to protect services such as
SSH with an additional layer of security in order to make the exploitation
of vulnerabilities much more difficult. The authorization server works by
passively monitoring authorization packets via libpcap. Also supported is a
robust port knocking implementation based around iptables log messages.
Changes: The NetPacket module dependency was removed since fwknopd now
decodes packet headers itself. All Perl modules were moved into the deps/
directory so that it is easy to build fwknop on distributions where Perl
modules are already available as a separate package. Base64 data in SPA
messages is validated better before running the data through decryption
routines. The ability to ignore GnuPG options was added with
--gpg-no-options on the fwknop client command line and GPG_NO_OPTIONS for
the fwknopd server.

[024] - Gecode 2.2.0
by Guido Tack (http://freshmeat.net/users/odiug/)
Mon, Aug 25th 2008 16:55
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Gecode is a portable, accessible, and efficient environment for
developing constraint-based systems and applications. Gecode is radically
open for programming, meaning that it can be easily interfaced to other
systems. It supports the programming of new propagators (as implementation
of constraints), branching strategies, and search engines. New variable
domains can be programmed at the same level of efficiency as finite domain
and integer set variables that come predefined with Gecode.
Changes: This release adds many domain consistent propagators for
arithmetic constraints and fixes a number of bugs. Some of these bugs fixed
are potentially serious, in particular as they occur very infrequently.
