[001] - Absolute OS 12.1.10
  by Paul Sherman (http://freshmeat.net/users/psherma1/)
  Fri, Oct 17th 2008 04:57

About: Absolute Linux is a lightweight Slackware derivative that uses an
Icewm, pcmanfm, ROX-Filer, ivman, and others to create a lightweight yet
easy to use distribution. Installation is text-based but simplified, and
all packages are installed at once. It can run on a Pentium MMX with 64MB
of RAM (PII 400 with 128MB recommended). It features ease of browsing any
connected device in pcmanfm and an auto-popup menu for inserted playable
media. "Restricted" codecs are available to those eligible via a root-user
installer. Along with CD2 there is a large range of software compiled on
and for Absolute, including OpenOffice, Mplayer, GIMP, and K3B.

Changes: Printing libraries have been updated to correct output from
OpenOffice 3.0 and AbiWord 2.6.4. Firefox has been updated to a version
without XULRunner, and seems to be better behaved.

[002] - Amahi Linux Home Server 9.1 (Development)
  by cpg (http://freshmeat.net/users/cpg/)
  Fri, Oct 17th 2008 12:11

Information Management
Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions

About: The Amahi Home Server is a Linux Home Server based on Fedora (and
later on Ubuntu). Your machine becomes a "Home Digital Assistant" or HDA
after the installation. Each HDA is a Fedora-based server targeted for home
and home office environments. It provides an iTunes server, calendaring, a
wiki, shared network storage, network backups, a printer server, VPN, and a
plug-in architecture built on Ruby on Rails.

Changes: This release adds "Fixed IPs" and "Fixed Aliases" to the
networking tab, much-improved views of these tables, fixes for a security
issue with new user creation clashing with existing/privileged users, more
informational messages for empty Web apps, table editing fields for
hosts/aliases, shares, users, and Web apps, improvements to check for
proper names that are legal on the Linux platform, fixes to an artifact
that would "nest" tables within tables for users/shares/Web apps, making
them progressively smaller, and a fix for a typo which put Fahrenheit
conversion off by nine degrees.

[003] - amforth 3.0
  by Matthias Trute (http://freshmeat.net/users/mtrute/)
  Fri, Oct 17th 2008 21:35

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Embedded Systems
System :: Hardware

About: amforth is a Forth distribution for the the AVR Atmega
microcontroller. Once put into flash, it needs only a serial connection to
the host computer to work interactivly. New words are compiled directly
into flash, thus extending the dictionary immediately. It provides most of
the ANS94 Forth Standard plus extensions. It is written in AVR standard
assembly language and Forth itself. The main development uses Atmega8 and
Atmega32 controllers; other Atmega controllers work with small adjustments.

Changes: This release adds experimental code for the A/B forth VM
registers as discussed at EuroForth 2008. The pictured numeric output was
completely rewritten and conforms to the ANS94 standard, and some internal
cleanups should ease the deployment on systems with external RAM. A few
bugs are fixed.

Information Management
Multimedia :: Graphics
Office/Business

About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript, so that the process of
converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the
printer itself. This avoids the need to re-implement the barcode generation
process whenever your language needs change. The project supports most
major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, ISBN, Code 128
(A, B, and C), Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Postnet, Code 2 of 5, and
Codabar.

Changes: The ability to override the automatic checksum calculation for
EAN-13, UPC-A, UPC-E, and ISBN was removed.

[005] - Bazaar VCS 1.8
  by Martin Pool (http://freshmeat.net/users/bootswork/)
  Fri, Oct 17th 2008 09:31

Software Development :: Version Control

About: Bazaar is a simple decentralized revision control system.
Decentralized revision control systems give users the ability to branch
remote repositories to a local context. Users can commit to local branches
without requiring special permission from the branches that they branched
from.

Changes: Two bugs were fixed after 1.8rc1: errors are reported more
cleanly when a problem occurs when pushing to a smart server, and a problem
in building Pyrex extensions on Win32 was fixed.

[006] - Blitz templates for PHP 0.6.4
  by Alexey Rybak (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexeyrybak/)
  Fri, Oct 17th 2008 21:36

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Blitz templates is a fast PHP template engine written in C and
compiled as a PHP extension. It started as a php_templates replacement, but
developed into much more. It is based on extensible template controllers
(custom view classes in PHP) and weakly-active templates (simple logic in
HTML). Benchmarks show that it is one of the fastest template engines for
PHP, even though it's not trivial and makes Web application closer to a
smart MVC-like architecture model with maximal separation of HTML from your
code. It was designed for big high-load Internet projects with a lot of
complex presentation logic.

Changes: Minor fixes were made. The variable prefix can be set to an empty
value by ini_set now. Predefined variables are output correctly in a
single-line if statement.

System :: Networking

About: Condor schedules and runs remote CPU intensive applications using
the idle cycles of distributively owned workstations. It monitors a pool of
machines to find idle machines that are then used to complete submitted
jobs, and also provides checkpointing and remote system mechanisms that
allow for job migration and transparent remote execution.

Changes: This release contains many bugfixes and some improvements to
error handling of Local Universe jobs. Note that some of the bugfixes are
security-related; therefore, sites should either upgrade or restrict
permissions on who is allowed to submit Condor jobs to trusted users.

[032] - Prelude LML 0.9.14
  by yoann (http://freshmeat.net/users/yoann/)
  Fri, Oct 17th 2008 14:46

Internet :: Log Analysis
Security
System :: Logging

About: Prelude-LML is a signature-based log analyzer monitoring your log
file and received syslog messages for suspicious activity. It handle events
generated by a large set of components, including but not limited to: APC
Emu, BigIP, Cisco PIX, Clamav, Dell-OM, Grsecurity, Honeyd, ipchains,
Netfilter, ipfw, Nokia ipso, Apache ModSecurity, Ms-SQL, Nagios, Norton
Antivirus Corporate Edition, NTsyslog, Pam, Portsentry, Postfix, Proftpd,
SSH, and others. It is part of Prelude, a hybrid Intrusion Detection
framework implementing an open communication layer for use by any security
application.

Changes: This release fixes a possible permission error that could happen
when a given logfile was only accessible through a group-specific
permission. The ModSecurity ruleset now provides much more descriptive
classification text, adds regexps for [file ..], [line ...], and [tag ...]
fields, and finetunes targets/types. Gamin/FAM support has been deprecated
in favor of libev, fixing an SELinux issue. The polling architecture has
been improved by using an operating system-specific backend when possible.
This release monitors files that are not immediately available for reading
on startup. Once the file can be monitored, libev provides notification.

Database :: API
Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: SchemaCrawler is a platform (OS and database) independent command
line tool to output your database schema and data in a readable form. The
output is designed to be diff-ed with previous versions of your database
schema. SchemaCrawler is also an API that improves on standard JDBC
metadata.

Changes: This release introduces a number of API changes and new features.
Notable among these is full support for multiple schemata in a catalog. The
SchemaCrawler API returns a catalog as the top level object, which contains
schemata. Another change is that SchemaInfoLevel is an option, not a
CrawlHandler property, to allow for better separation of concerns. Finally,
SchemaCrawler has support for JavaScript scripting with J2SE 6 and above.

[037] - SchemaSpy 4.1.0
  by John Currier (http://freshmeat.net/users/johncurrier/)
  Fri, Oct 17th 2008 23:01

Database
Database :: Front-Ends

About: SchemaSpy is a Java-based tool that analyzes the metadata of a
schema in a database and generates a visual representation of it in a
browser-displayable format. It lets you click through the hierarchy of
database tables via child and parent table relationships as represented by
both HTML links and entity-relationship diagrams. It's also designed to
help resolve the obtuse errors that a database sometimes gives related to
failures due to constraints.

Changes: This release can fully evaluate Ruby on Rails databases that
associate foreign keys to primary tables/keys with a translation of
singular to plural form. It resolves a bug where SchemaSpy was using
incorrect entity relationship diagram notation. It adds support for MS SQL
Server 2005 with jTDS driver, including column comment retrieval for all of
the MS SQL databases. You can now specify database connection properties on
the command line. There is a new -sso option to support single sign-on
databases.

Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Software Development :: Bug Tracking
Software Development :: Version Control

About: Scmbug integrates software configuration management (SCM) with
bug-tracking. It aims to solve the integration problem once and for all. It
will glue any source code version control system (such as CVS/CVSNT,
Subversion, and Git) with any bug tracking system (such as Bugzilla,
Mantis, Request Tracker, Test Director).

Changes: This release adds partial support for Git integration, begins to
report deletions of files in Subversion with the actual revision number
instead of "NONE", fixes a bug related to accurately detecting the revision
number of a changeset in Subversion when more than one, separate, commit
operations are issued at once, adds a WebReport that can email all
developers with open bugs during a release, applies bugfixes in the
WebReports, applies performance optimizations for activity_get_bugs for
TestDirector, and corrects the sorting of bugs in Bugzilla in VDD
documents.

[041] - XHTML Family Tree Generator 2.3.8
  by Ferenc Bodon (http://freshmeat.net/users/bodon/)
  Fri, Oct 17th 2008 21:38

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

About: XHTML Family Tree Generator is a CGI Perl script together with some
Perl modules that will create views of a family tree. Data can be stored in
a database or in a data file. The data file is either a simple text (CSV),
an Excel, or GEDCOM file listing the family members, parents, and other
details. It is possible to show a tree of ancestors and descendants for any
person, showing any number of generations. Other facilities are provided
for showing email directories, birthday reminders, facehall, and more. It
has a simple configuration, makes heavy use of CGI (and other CPAN
modules), generates valid XHTML, and has support for Unicode and multiple
languages.

Changes: No zoom-out button if there are no more generations. The border
color of the image depends on the existence of the member (black for dead
relatives). See the classes dead and alive in the stylesheet.
Gender-dependent picture for unknown persons. Proper UTF-8 and Excel
encoding (big endian) handling. Bugfixes (e.g. in language switching). A
config file change (see option encoding for CSV format).
