[001] - Asymptote 1.45
  by John Bowman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcbowman/)

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering

About: Asymptote is a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. Asymptote is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program. It can exploit the best features of
script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI) methods.
High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language itself,
allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.

Changes: Bugs in the solids of revolution and graph3 modules were fixed;
longitudinal curves are split into front and back pieces. Rendering
artifacts are now avoided. When render=0, 2D and 3D objects are now sized
consistently. Automatic camera adjustment was improved. Bugs in thick
three-dimensional lines were fixed; thick lines are now drawn with fewer
Bezier patches and 3D Linetype offsets are supported. The appearance of
unitcones and arrows was improved. New arrowhead3 types HookHead3 and
TeXHead3 were added. The default surface color is now black. New surface
and path constructors were added.

Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Weighted Random, Least
Session, Least Bandwidth, Hash, Agent, and Randomized Agent) and a
customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It supports VRRP to set
up high availability configurations on multiple nodes. It supports SNMP,
integrating the BALANCENG-MIB with Net-SNMPD. It implements a very fast
in-memory IP-to-location database, allowing powerful location-based server
load-balancing.

Changes: A general problem with NAT and multiple instances on the same
machine has been fixed; upgrading is recommended if multiple instances are
being used in conjunction with NAT. A problem with packet processing and
multiple instances on Solaris based machines has been fixed and a new
controlling parameter has been added (bngfilter). Upgrading is recommended
if multiple instances are being used on Solaris. Both fixes have also been
applied to the 1.x branch, resulting in release 1.934. The manuals have
been updated accordingly. The Ubuntu JeOS VMware virtual appliance has been
updated accordingly.

Communications :: Chat
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Text Processing

About: Cypher is an AI program that generates the RDF graph and SPARQL
query representations of plain language input, allowing users to speak
plain language to update and query databases. With robust definition
languages, Cypher's grammar and lexicon can quickly and easily be extended
to process highly complex sentences and phrases of any natural language,
and can cover any vocabulary. Equipped with Cypher, programmers can begin
building next generation semantic Web applications that harness natural
language.

Changes: Patterns involving named entities were returning pattern instance
URIs. The logic has been changed to omit the internal and grammar
repositories from the lexicon search targets. A bug dealing with cached
word sense results has been fixed. The Meta Language Ontology, draft
specification 1.0 is now complete and fully implemented. Gestalt logic has
been added to lexical processing.

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Boot

About: The Mandos system allows computers to have encrypted root file
systems and at the same time be capable of remote or unattended reboots.
The computers run a small client program in the initial RAM disk
environment which will communicate with a server over a network. All
network communication is encrypted using TLS. The clients are identified by
the server using an OpenPGP key that is unique to each client. The server
sends the clients an encrypted password. The encrypted password is
decrypted by the clients using the same OpenPGP key, and the password is
then used to unlock the root file system.

[014] - Pantheios 1.0.1 beta 168
  by Dr Proctor (http://freshmeat.net/users/DrProctor/)
  Sat, Oct 18th 2008 17:10

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Logging

About: Pantheios is a C/C++ logging API library. It offers an optimal
combination of complete type-safety, very high efficiency, genericity, and
extensibility. It is simple to use and extend, highly portable (platform
and compiler independent), and it upholds the C tradition of only paying
for what you use. Pantheios supports logging of message statements of
arbitrary complexity, consisting of heterogenous types. Pantheios supports
filtering of log messages based on severity level.

Changes: This release removes previously deprecated header files, adds
implementations of functions deprecated (and renamed) in 1.0.1 beta 167 for
backwards compatibility, and fixes a defective using declaration in
pantheios/util/com/exception_helpers.hpp. It also includes two new FAQ
items.

[017] - Rats! 1.14.2
  by Robert Grimm (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgrimmm/)
  Sat, Oct 18th 2008 17:17

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: Rats! is a parser generator for C-like languages (though currently
it only generates parsers in Java). It has been designed so that grammars
are concise and easily extensible. To this end, grammars are organized into
modules that can be easily changed by adding, removing, or modifying
alternatives in individual productions and composed with each other through
module parameters. Furthermore, it relies on ordered choices to avoid
ambiguities, supports syntactic predicates for unlimited lookahead, and
integrates lexing with parsing. Finally, it has extensive support for
automatically generating abstract syntax trees, thus greatly reducing the
need for explicit semantic actions.

Changes: This release improves error reporting by generated parsers and
fixes a code generation bug.

Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
Software Development

About: Releaser is a set of scripts to automate and manage the tasks
related to software package releases. It is designed to be modular and to
make it easy to both select a particular set of actions associated with
releases of a particular project (such as changelog generation, uploading
of tarballs, posting announcements to mailing lists), and create new
actions that integrate seamlessly into the process. Its status is still
somewhat experimental, but the most basic functionality is there.

Changes: Fixes and improvements were made. The only major new feature
allows you to explicitly override the list of tasks to execute from the
command line.

About: Sshpass is a tool for non-interactivly performing password
authentication with SSH's so called "interactive keyboard password
authentication". Most users should use SSH's more secure public key
authentication instead.

Changes: Support was added for reporting the reason for failure through
the program's return codes. All outstanding bugs were fixed. The password
is hidden from the command line, which is not a perfect security measure,
but better than nothing.
