[003] - aria2 0.16.2
  by SlotGazer (http://freshmeat.net/users/slotgazer/)
  Sun, Oct 19th 2008 19:24

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: aria2 is a utility for downloading files. The supported protocols
are HTTP(S), FTP, BitTorrent, and Metalink. It has a powerful segmented
downloading ability, downloading a file from multiple sources and multiple
protocols and utilizing your download bandwidth to the maximum. It supports
downloading a file from HTTP(S)/FTP and BitTorrent at the same time, while
the data downloaded from HTTP(S)/FTP is uploaded to the BitTorrent swarm.
Using Metalink's chunk checksums, aria2 automatically validates chunks of
data while downloading a file like BitTorrent.

Changes: This release fixes the bug that caused aria2 to abort when it
receives a BitTorrent request message that requests data larger than 16KiB.
ASerbian translation was added. The Ukrainian translation was updated.

[004] - Asymptote 1.46
  by John Bowman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcbowman/)
  Sun, Oct 19th 2008 03:35

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering

About: Asymptote is a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. Asymptote is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program. It can exploit the best features of
script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI) methods.
High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language itself,
allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.

Changes: Support was added for embedding 3D PRC files within LaTeX even
when settings.render=0. An error is now signaled if the user tries to
render an image without freeglut library support. The Klein bottle example
was updated to use lightgray instead of the new default surface color
(black). The sphere animation example was updated to work with the new
skeleton structure in the solids module.

[005] - ATLAS 3.9.4 (Development)
  by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
  Sun, Oct 19th 2008 04:21

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The ATLAS (Automatically Tuned Linear Algebra Software) project is
an ongoing research effort focusing on applying empirical techniques in
order to provide portable performance. It provides C and Fortran77
interfaces to a portably efficient BLAS implementation, as well as a few
routines from LAPACK.

Changes: Improved Windows/Cygwin configure. Basic support for
Windows/interix. Special "no-need-to-copy" cases have been removed from
ATLmm_JIK/IJK.c, since they occasionally seem to cause large performance
drops. JIK matmul is always called for rank-K update, in order to reduce
access costs on C. Several errors have been fixed in ATLAS's ILAENV.
Several errors in configure have been fixed.

[013] - dCache DSS 1.9.0-2 (Production)
  by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
  Sun, Oct 19th 2008 06:45

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: dCache is a distributed storage solution. It organizes storage
across computers so the combined storage can be used without the end-users
being aware of precisely which computer stores their data; end-users simply
see a large amount of storage. Because end-users need not know on which
computer their data is stored, their data can be migrated from one computer
to another without any interruption of service. This allows dCache storage
computers to be taken out of service or additional machines (with
additional storage) to be added without interrupting the service the
end-users enjoy.

Changes: Major enhancements, security updates, and assorted bugfixes were
made.

  by Fredrik Tolf (http://freshmeat.net/users/dolda2000/)
  Sun, Oct 19th 2008 03:36

Communications :: File Sharing :: Direct Connect

About: Dolda Connect is a modular P2P filesharing client built around the
Direct Connect model. It supports most of the latest features of the DC
protocol. It runs in client/server mode with a well defined protocol,
allowing extensibility, flexibility, and multiple detachable user
interfaces. It also has an optional multi-user mode.

Changes: This release has few user-visible changes, but a lot of massive
internal code cleanups to prepare for future hacks. It also has quite a few
bugfixes, but all the new code probably compensates for that.

  by Andrew Yates (http://freshmeat.net/users/andrewyates/)
  Sun, Oct 19th 2008 03:33

Utilities

About: fsniper is a tool that monitors a given set of directories for new
or modified files. Then, based on the file's type or name, it invokes a
script to be run on that file. Directories are monitored using inotify,
instead of simply continuously polling them for changes. Common uses
include making a single download directory for all things from a Web
browser and having semi-intelligent scripts figure out what to do with
those files. You write the scripts yourself.

Changes: A comment and double free regression were fixed, as well as a
rare error in an error handler.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: ImpressCMS is a content management system that allows you to easily
build and maintain a dynamic Web site. It is a fork of XOOPS and is fully
compatible with XOOPS modules and themes, but has many improvements. These
include native multilingual support, a completely redesigned admin
interface, management of unlimited block positions on the user side, easy
cloning of existing blocks with a single click, a redesigned installation
wizard with inline help at every step, many security improvements including
the introduction of the Trust Path concept, which allows the storing of
sensitive data outside the Web root, an automatic version checker, and a
customizable privacy policy feature.

Changes: The UTF-8 database converter is finally complete and will upgrade
your database to UTF-8. Other bugs in the ImpressCMS upgrader were fixed.
If mainfile.php does not yet have information about the Trust Path, the
upgrader will add it. A converter from XOOPS 2.2.x to ImpressCMS 1.1 was
added. A converter from XOOPS 2.3.x to ImpressCMS was added.

[035] - QMC2 0.2 beta 5
  by Prian (http://freshmeat.net/users/prianthefist/)
  Sun, Oct 19th 2008 21:32

System :: Emulators

About: M.A.M.E. Catalog / Launcher II (also referred to as QMC2) is the
successor of one of the first XMAME GUI frontends available, QMamecat
(derived from MAMECAT, which was text-only). QMC2 has been rebuilt from
scratch as a Qt 4 project. Parts of the design and code were inspired by
its predecessor. The new design was made as flexible as possible to
minimize dependencies from frontend- and CLI-related MAME changes, which
was a major deficiency of QMamecat. QMC2 uses a template-based MAME
configuration scheme, which can easily be enhanced with additional command
line options (defined in an XML template file).

Changes: Support for MAME's output notifications via a named pipe (SDLMAME
0.127+ required). The emulator control panel has been changed to a
multi-column tree widget to display MAME output notifications online.
Individual joystick axes can be enabled/disabled at will. There is a
built-in audio player to support background music playback, and the Boolean
emulator option values true and false are now also translatable.

[036] - rdiff-backup 1.2.2
  by Andrew Ferguson (http://freshmeat.net/users/adferguson/)
  Sun, Oct 19th 2008 19:27

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
Utilities

About: rdiff-backup backs up one directory to another. The target
directory ends up a copy of the source directory, but extra reverse diffs
are stored in a special directory so you can still recover files lost some
time ago. The idea is to combine the best features of a mirror and an
incremental backup. rdiff-backup can also operate in a bandwidth- efficient
manner over a pipe, like rsync. Thus you can use rdiff-backup and ssh to
securely back up to a remote location, and only the differences will be
transmitted. It can also handle symlinks, device files, permissions,
ownership, etc., so it can be used on the entire file system.

Changes: This release will automatically resume after a failed initial
backup. Support for extended attributes on symlinks. The
--exclude-if-present option now supports directories, symlinks, device
files, etc. The Mac OS X "busy" (Z) Finder attribute is stored. A more
informative error message if the remote shell impedes rdiff-backup
communication. A warning if extended attributes support is broken by the
filesystem (e.g. old EncFS). Improved support for Python 2.5. A proper fix
for the "AttributeError: RPath instance has no attribute 'inc_compressed'"
bug. Several import Windows bugfixes.

Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries
Utilities

About: runawk is a small wrapper for the AWK interpreter that helps one
write standalone AWK scripts. Its main feature is to provide a
module/library system for AWK which is somewhat similar to Perl's "use"
command. It also allows you to select a preferred AWK interpreter, to setup
the environment for your scripts. It also provides other helpful features.
runawk makes programming AWK easy and efficient, despite the fact that AWK
is a very simple programming language. runawk also provides many useful AWK
functions and extensions implemented in the separate files/modules.

Changes: "runawk -e ' { print "123" } ' /dev/null" no longer fails with
NAWK (seen on NetBSD). A compilation bug on FreeBSD was fixed. A better

[041] - Seed7 2008-10-19
  by Thomas Mertes (http://freshmeat.net/users/thomas_mertes/)
  Sun, Oct 19th 2008 21:41

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements and
operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.

Changes: Support for compilation with the cl C compiler from msvc was
improved such that chk_all.sd7 succeeds. The programs chkexc.sd7 and
chkflt.sd7 were improved to better check for division by zero. The files
dir_rtl.c and dir_rtl.h were added to support reading directories with char
and wide char types. An implementation for the functions wopendir(),
wreaddir(), and wclosedir(), based on FindFirstFile() and FindNextFile(),
was added to dir_win.c. The file src/read_me.txt was improved to explain
compilation with bcc32. The file scr_win.c was improved to support the
keypad cursor keys better.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

About: UFRaw is a utility for converting and manipulating raw images from
digital cameras. It can be used as a stand-alone tool or as a Gimp plugin,
and images can be batch processed using the commandline interface. UFRaw
reads most existing raw formats using Dave Coffin's raw conversion utility
DCRaw, and it supports basic color management using Little CMS, allowing
the user to apply color profiles. For Nikon users, UFRaw has the advantage
that it can read the camera's tone curves. Even if you don't own a Nikon,
you can still apply a Nikon curve to your images.

Changes: This is a minor release to fix two small, but annoying bugs.

[053] - xTests 0.8.6
  by Dr Proctor (http://freshmeat.net/users/DrProctor/)
  Sun, Oct 19th 2008 04:00

Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: xTests is a small, simple, lightweight, portable unit/component
testing library for exercising C and C++ libraries. It relies on no
platform-specific or compiler-specific constructs and doesn't require
pre-processing of your source code by scripting languages or use macros to
create secret classes that use Schwarz counters to register test cases. It
relies on you to simply code what you want, and nothing that you don't
want.
