About: AVScan is an anti-virus scanner that uses the ClamAV library
(libclamav). It allows you to create a list of scan items for frequently
scanned locations and features on-demand virus database updating, manual
drag and drop object scanning, and pausing and resuming of scanning, all in

Education
Education :: Computer Aided Instruction (CAI)
Games/Entertainment
About: Brain Workshop is an implementation of the Dual N-Back mental
exercise. This exercise is a mental activity that has been scientifically
shown to improve your working memory (short-term memory) and fluid
intelligence. The game involves remembering a sequence of spoken letters
and a sequence of positions of a square at the same time. Brain Workshop
includes additional challenging game modes beyond Dual N-Back.
Changes: Variable n-back levels can be used with any game mode. Sounds for
the auditory n-back task can be selected by pressing S. New Morse Code
sounds can be used with any n-back mode.

by Sean Mauch (http://freshmeat.net/users/seanmauch/)
Sat, Nov 15th 2008 18:30
Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry
Scientific/Engineering :: Physics
About: Cain performs stochastic and deterministic simulations of chemical
reactions. It can spawn multiple simulation processes to utilize multi-core
computers. It stores models, simulation parameters, and simulation results
(populations and reaction counts) in an XML format. In addition, SBML
models can be imported and exported. The models and simulation parameters
can be read from input files or edited within the program. Solvers are
implemented as command line executables, which makes it easy to launch
batch jobs and simplifies the process of adding new solvers. Solvers
include Gillespie's direct method, Gillespie's first reaction method,
Gibson and Bruck's next reaction method, Tau-leaping, and Hybrid
direct/tau-leaping.

[005] - Cedar Backup 2.19.1
by Kenneth J. Pronovici (http://freshmeat.net/users/pronovic/)

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
System :: Archiving :: Backup
Utilities
About: Cedar Backup is a software package designed to manage system
backups for a pool of local and remote machines. Cedar Backup understands
how to back up filesystem data as well as MySQL and PostgreSQL databases
and Subversion repositories. It can also be easily extended to support
other kinds of data sources. Cedar Backup is focused around weekly backups
to a single CD or DVD disc. It supports multisession discs, allowing you to
add incremental data to a disc on a daily basis. Cedar Backup also provides
a Python library of backup-related functionality.
Changes: A problem was fixed where strange filenames could cause a crash,
due to mismatched encodings among items in a log statement. A new
<ignore_failures> option was added to peer configuration. Minor
documentation updates were made.

[006] - Cobbler 1.2.9
by Michael DeHaan (http://freshmeat.net/users/mpdehaan/)
Sat, Nov 15th 2008 00:56
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
System :: Boot
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions
About: Cobbler is a network installation and update server. It can be used
to automatically set up PXE, install virtual guests, manage answer files,
and reinstall existing Linux machines. Advanced features include importing
distributions from DVDs and rsync mirrors, kickstart templating, integrated
yum mirroring (integrated with the installer to make updates available at
install time), creation of netboot ISOs, and built-in DHCP/DNS Management.
Tools such as "cobbler triggers", a Python API, and an XMLRPC API allow
integration with cobbler with the rest of your datacenter environment or
other systems management applications. There is also a Web interface to
simplify management of the install server. Cobbler supports RHEL 4+,
Fedora, and derivative distributions, and is also able to install other
popular distributions.
Changes: This release fixes a potential privilege escalation where a user
who has been granted access to CobblerWeb can edit a kickstart template
through the Web interface (which is a feature of Cobbler Web) and have
cobblerd execute Python code on the cobbler server on his behalf as root.
The fix in question limits the Python modules that a template can import to
"time" and "random" via an explicit whitelist. A user with access to
Cobbler Web can already install arbitrary software on other machines that
Cobbler controls, though it may not be assumed he has root access on the
Cobbler server.

Communications :: Internet Phone
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
About: The Cornfed SIP User Agent is a Session Initiation Protocol
(SIP)-based Softphone for x86 Linux systems running the GNOME Desktop
environment. It allows you to make Internet phone calls using an Advanced
Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) or Open Sound System (OSS) sound card with
speakers and microphone as your telephone handset.
Changes: The Contact header address was changed to use registration user.
A separate Expires header line was added to outbound REGISTER messages to
address some Session Border Controllers (SBCs). A bug where compact forms
of Contact and Via headers were not recognized in incoming messages was
fixed. A bug introduced after 1.1.4 that prevents reset of expiration timer
during re-registrations was fixed. A bug that prevented soundcard status
from returning useful data was fixed. All SUBSCRIBE/NOTIFY implementation
code was removed. A feature where .wav playback when no call is in progress
is played out the speakers was added back.

About: Tor-ramdisk is an i686 uClibc-based micro Linux distribution whose
only purpose is to host a Tor server in an environment that maximizes
security and privacy. Tor is a network of virtual tunnels that allows
people and groups to improve their privacy and security on the Internet.
Security is enhanced in tor-ramdisk by employing a monolithically compiled
GRSEC/PAX patched kernel and hardened system tools. Privacy is enhanced by
turning off logging at all levels so that even the Tor operator only has
access to minimal information. Finally, since everything runs in ephemeral
memory, no information survives a reboot, except for the Tor configuration
file and the private RSA key, which may be exported/imported by FTP.
Changes: This is a minor update to reflect updates upstream. tor is

About: Vendetta Online is a multi-platform 3D space-combat MMO for
Windows, Mac, Linux/32 and Linux/64. The game permits players to interact
in a vast online galaxy; fighting, trading, and mining their way to

battles shake the foundations of the major nations at war, while others
struggle to push back the encroachment of the AI "Hives". A no-strings free
trial is available.
Changes: The "Sell Selected..." menu now includes profit/loss information.
The zoom out command now restores the FOV to the previous setting instead
of 75. A dialog now asks if the current desktop resolution should be
selected as the initial resolution for fresh installs on Windows and Mac OS
X. FOV is based on aspect ratio of the selected resolution and HUD scale
size is selected based on initial resolution in fresh installs. More F5 HUD
