[003] - Aubit 4GL compiler 1.1RC41
  by Mike Aubury (http://freshmeat.net/users/mikeaubury/)
  Mon, Nov 17th 2008 18:37

Database :: Front-Ends
Office/Business
Software Development :: Code Generators

About: Aubit 4GL compiler is an Informix-4GL compatible compiler and
runtime environment. It translates 4GL source into executable programs,
enabling very fast creation of screen/form-based applications. With support
for SQL statements forming an intrinsic part of the language, it's
especially suitable for developing database-oriented applications. Database
connectivity is provided for PostgreSQL, MySQL, Informix, and ODBC. It
supports both ncurses (console mode) and GTK+ (GUI mode) output.

Changes: This release has major bugfixes. It also adds callbacks to LOAD
and CONSTRUCT, has many new built-in functions, and has other enhancements.

[004] - AutoGen 5.9.6
  by Bruce Korb (http://freshmeat.net/users/bkorb/)
  Mon, Nov 17th 2008 01:16

Other/Nonlisted Topic
Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: AutoGen is a tool designed for generating program files that
contain repetitive text with varied substitutions. Its goal is to simplify
the maintenance of programs that contain large amounts of repetitious text.
This is especially valuable if there are several blocks of such text that
must be kept synchronized. Output is specified with a Scheme-enhanced
output template. Input, if required by your template, may come from AutoGen
definitions, CGI data, or XML files.

Changes: A new function time-string->number will convert various time
duration strings (a la ISO-8601) into a count of seconds. There are various
obscure cleanups.

[005] - AutoOpts 32.0.7
  by Bruce Korb (http://freshmeat.net/users/bkorb/)
  Mon, Nov 17th 2008 01:19

Software Development
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Libraries

About: AutoOpts is an integrated part of AutoGen. Based on a very simple
option description file, it will process configuration files, environment
variables, command line options, text strings passed by client programs,
and will make the results easily accessible to the client program. It will
also produce a man page and the info-doc invoking section automatically.

Changes: Hierarchically valued options can now be stored with the
"--save-opt'' option. Option state may now be "reset". This is
indistinguishable from the compiled state. If option state is "saved"
later, such an option will not appear in the save file. There is a new
option argument type: time. Its argument string represents years, months,
weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds. The value seen by the program is
an integer number of seconds (this is not a date/time.) The duration of a
year is always 365 days and the duration of a month is always 30 days.

[006] - Back In Time 0.8.6
  by Dan (http://freshmeat.net/users/danleweb/)
  Mon, Nov 17th 2008 13:59

System :: Archiving :: Backup
Utilities

About: Back In Time is a simple backup system for the GNOME desktop
inspired by the "flyback project" and "TimeVault". The backup is done by
taking snapshots of a specified set of directories. All you have to do is
configure: where to save snapshot, what directories to backup, and when a
backup should be done (manually, every hour, every day, every week, or
every month). It acts as a "user mode" backup system. This means that you
can backup and restore only folders to which you have write access.

[009] - Botan 1.7.22 (Development)
  by Jack Lloyd (http://freshmeat.net/users/randombit/)
  Mon, Nov 17th 2008 14:01

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Botan is a C++ library of cryptographic algorithms, including AES,
DES, SHA-1, RSA, DSA, Diffie-Hellman, and many others. It also supports
X.509 certificates and CRLs, and PKCS #10 certificate requests, and has a
high level filter/pipe message processing system. The library is easily
portable to most systems and compilers, and includes a substantial tutorial
and API reference.

Changes: This release adds much finer grained control of algorithm
provider specifications, allowing applications to more easily choose among
implementations. Nested constructions like HMAC and CMAC now properly
acquire the preferred implementations rather than always using the baseline
C++ implementations. The AES implementation has been optimized somewhat,
and is about 10% faster on x86-64 processors. Several memory leaks
introduced in PBE_PKCS5v20 in the previous release have also been fixed.

[011] - Bygfoot Football Manager. 2.3.0 (Development)
  by Gunnar (http://freshmeat.net/users/bygfoot_gunnar/)
  Mon, Nov 17th 2008 14:13

Games/Entertainment :: Simulation

About: Bygfoot is a small and simple graphical football (a.k.a. soccer)
manager game featuring many international leagues and cups. You manage a
team from one such league: you form the team, buy and sell players, get
promoted or relegated, and of course try to be successful.

Changes: Players can now "balk" during transfers. You can change ticket
prices for the stadium. The interest rate for loans is now viariable. The
loans are automatically repaid.

[012] - Cairo 1.8.4
  by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
  Mon, Nov 17th 2008 00:08

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Cairo is a vector graphics library with cross-device output
support. It currently supports the X Window System and in-memory image
buffers as output targets. It is designed to produce identical output on
all output media while taking advantage of display hardware acceleration
when available (eg. through the X Render Extension). It provides a
stateful user-level API with capabilities similar to the PDF 1.4 imaging
model and provides operations including stroking and filling Bezier cubic
splines, transforming and compositing translucent images, and antialiased
text  rendering.

Changes: Building with older bash and XRender was fixed. Triggering of a
bug in X.org server 6.9 is now avoided. A bug in the computation of
user-font glyph bounding boxes of Type3 fonts was fixed. A miscomputation
of the size of fallback images was fixed. Cairo is now more tolerant of
broken fonts when subsetting Type1 fonts. Several further bugs were fixed.

[018] - DBIx::Perlish 0.48
  by Grrrr (http://freshmeat.net/users/Grrrr/)
  Mon, Nov 17th 2008 14:10

About: The DBIx::Perlish module provides the ability to work with
databases supported by the DBI module using Perl's own syntax for the four
most common operations: SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT. By using
DBIx::Perlish, you can write most of your database queries using a
domain-specific language with Perl syntax. However, the module is not
intended to replace all use of SQL in your program. The DBIx::Perlish
module quite intentionally neither implements nor cares about database
administration tasks like schema design and management.

Changes: Handling of multiple joins was improved.

Database
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: DBSight is a J2EE search platform for instant scalable full-text
search on any relational database, for both beginners and experts. It
features a built-in database crawler following user-defined SQL,
incremental indexing, user-controllable result ranking, the ability to
return results with highlights (like Google), and categorized result counts
(like Amazon). It can easily integrate with other languages with
XML/JSON/HTML. There is a UI for all operations, so no Java coding is
necessary. Deleted or updated records in database can be synchronized also.

Changes: This release adds index-specific spell checking. It fixes
highlighter highlighting without summarizing. It adds optional classpath
for indexing to resolve a Tomcat jsdk classpath issue. It simplifies
narrowBy rendering logic. It improves search performance by optimizing on
Facet Search.

server project. It provides a native VNC viewer that takes advantage of new
features in x11vnc, e.g. cursor alpha blending and automatic SSL
tunnelling. Some features apply to any VNC server, e.g. automatic SSH
tunnelling. Another goal is to provide a package that conveniently bundles
everything needed for the user to have the enhanced viewer running quickly.
This includes pre-built binaries of the viewer and utility programs for
Windows and many Unix variants, and a GUI to configure and launch the
viewer. The short name for this project is "ssvnc", for SSL/SSH VNC viewer.

Changes: The Unix and Mac OS X X11 vncviewer can now do client-side
scaling of the desktop. Zeroconf/Bonjour is added for locating nearby VNC
servers. The 'Escape Keys' option enables many of the popup menu actions to
be performed via hot-keys. It is now easier to disable encryption in the
ssvnc GUI. The 'stunnel EXEC' local port protection mechanism is enabled by
default. x11vnc can use the ssvnc -chatonly mode to display an UltraVNC
chat window on the local X console. A desktop entry file is installed to
have an SSVNC entry appear in desktop menus.

[036] - jmemcached 0.6
  by Ryan Daum (http://freshmeat.net/users/rdaum/)
  Mon, Nov 17th 2008 22:09

About: jmemcached is a fast networked cache for storing objects for later
retrieval. It is functionally equivalent and protocol-compatible with the
standard C implementation of memcached, but is appropriate for Java-only
environments, or for applications with portability concerns for which Java
is the preferred solution. It is protocol-compatible with the C version of
memcached. Existing clients, including the one for Java, should work
without modification. Replacing the Java version with the C version (and
vice-versa) is trivial. It can be embedded in an existing Java project or
used from its command line interface (which mimics the C version in
arguments).

Changes: This release adds support for a memory-mapped heap that is
external to the JVM, to allow for much larger caches and to avoid memory
impact on the main JVM. It has some performance and protocol compliance
improvements. It has better command line options for specifying heap and
ceiling sizes. It adds a battery of unit tests.

  Mon, Nov 17th 2008 00:16

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements and
operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.

Changes: The support for compilation with the bcc32 C compiler from BDS
was improved such that the chk_all.sd7 check program succeeds. The FAQ
about the operating systems supported by Seed7, was improved. A chapter
describing how to replace pointers with interface types was added to the
manual. The program chk_all.sd7 was improved to also check for the
successful compilation of the compiler. The compiler (comp.sd7) was
improved to generate C programs that are acceptable to the bcc32 C
compiler. The documentation file src/read_me.txt was improved to explain
the #define value CHECK_INT_DIV_BY_ZERO.

[069] - Shell Flags 1.0.2
  by Kate Ward (http://freshmeat.net/users/sfsetse/)
  Mon, Nov 17th 2008 22:02

System :: Shells

About: Shell Flags (shFlags) is a library written to greatly simplify the
handling of command-line flags in Bourne based Unix shell scripts (such as
those run with bash, dash, ksh, sh, and zsh). Most shell scripts use getopt
for flag processing, but the different versions of getopt on various OSes
make writing portable shell scripts difficult. shflags instead provides an
API that doesn't change across shell and OS versions, so the script writer
can be confident that the script will work.

Changes: This is both a minor bugfix release and a minor new feature
release. It adds several warning messages, fixes three issues, and displays
the default value behind the help string when help is requested.
Additionally, the coding standards have been modified slightly and
officially documented. They were taken from the standards used by shUnit2
(the unit testing framework used for the unit testing).

from different workflow "patterns" like simple actions, decisions,
selections, loops, and custom code. The SWAMP server automatically creates
a Web GUI from the workflow definition file that guides users through the
business logic process based on their roles. Notification is sent if
required. Overview pages over all running workflows and much more are
available.
