Information Management
Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions

About: The Amahi Home Server is a Linux Home Server based on Fedora (and
later on Ubuntu). Your machine becomes a "Home Digital Assistant" or HDA
after the installation. Each HDA is a Fedora-based server targeted for home
and home office environments. It provides an iTunes server, calendaring, a
wiki, shared network storage, network backups, a printer server, VPN, and a
plug-in architecture built on Ruby on Rails.

Changes: This release includes a major improvement to the user and share
management interfaces in the Amahi HDA setup pages. In addition, some fixes
were made for Samba shares server configuration and for platform stability
in the absence of or with failures in external networking.

  Tue, Nov 18th 2008 16:25

About: The ANTS package is designed to provide researchers with advanced
tools for brain and image mapping. Many of the ANTS registration tools are
diffeomorphic, but deformation (elastic and BSpline) transformations are
available. Unique components of ANTS include multivariate similarity
metrics, landmark guidance, the ability to use label images to guide the
mapping and both greedy and space-time optimal implementations of
diffeomorphisms.

Changes: This version is compatible with itk 3.10.

[003] - aria2 1.0.0
  by SlotGazer (http://freshmeat.net/users/slotgazer/)
  Tue, Nov 18th 2008 18:28

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: aria2 is a utility for downloading files. The supported protocols
are HTTP(S), FTP, BitTorrent, and Metalink. It has a powerful segmented
downloading ability, downloading a file from multiple sources and multiple
protocols and utilizing your download bandwidth to the maximum. It supports
downloading a file from HTTP(S)/FTP and BitTorrent at the same time, while
the data downloaded from HTTP(S)/FTP is uploaded to the BitTorrent swarm.
Using Metalink's chunk checksums, aria2 automatically validates chunks of
data while downloading a file like BitTorrent.

Changes: This release adds the ability to verify peers using given trusted
CA certificates and client certificate authentication in HTTPS. The ability
to form a persistent connection using a proxy and support for well-known
environment variables for proxy settings were also added. The bug that
caused a segmentation fault during seeding was fixed. Now users can specify
output the filename and directory in the input file. The average download
speed are now printed in Download results. The following options are now
enabled by default: --ftp-pasv and --enable-direct-io.

[007] - compileAndGo 4.3
  by Dave Yost (http://freshmeat.net/users/DaveYost/)
  Tue, Nov 18th 2008 14:44

Software Development :: Build Tools

About: compileAndGo is a #! helper program. It allows you to execute
source code files written in a compiled language (such as Java or C++) as
if they were written in an interpreted scripting language. The source files
must have the compileAndGo #! header at the top and must have file execute
permission. The source is automatically compiled, and the binary executable
is cached out of sight. The "cg" command alternate form of compileAndGo
lets you compile and run a source file in one step.

Changes: This version supports the new "language" parameter, so a
compileAndGo-aware IDE can let you edit the script file directly. See
http://www.jetbrains.net/jira/browse/IDEA-20718.

[008] - CPAN+changelog 1.38
  by Matthias Ferdinand (http://freshmeat.net/users/freshmfedv/)
  Tue, Nov 18th 2008 15:10

System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Systems Administration

About: CPAN+changelog.pl is a wrapper script for the CPAN Perl module. It
adds ChangeLog and BuildLog functionality. A ChangeLog allows an
administrator to better decide if and when a module from CPAN should be
upgraded. A BuildLog helps answer questions like, "When was module Foo
installed?" or, "Were there any warnings when compiling Bar?"

Changes: Parsing of distribution file names was fixed to allow suffixes of
the form "-RCn". This is necessary to avoid installing a complete Perl
interpreter.

[013] - edtFTPj/PRO 2.1.1
  by EDT (http://freshmeat.net/users/bigbird/)
  Tue, Nov 18th 2008 14:41

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Security :: Cryptography

About: edtFTPj/PRO is a Java library that performs secure file transfers.
It supports FTPS (FTP over SSL), both explicit and implicit modes, and SFTP
(FTP via SSH). It also supports asynchronous transfers and FTP connection
pools. All major FTP operations are supported, including both active and
passive modes. It provides a progress monitor interface, allowing
applications to receive progress updates for their file transfers. The
library is built on the open source edtFTPj and shares its API.

Changes: ScriptEngine now correctly returns 0 exit status for successful
execution, 1 otherwise. Support was added for the Unicode ASN.1 string type
in SSL certificates (which solves the "Not a PrintableString or IA5String
or UTFString" error). An SFTP problem was fixed where the client was
hanging when transferring a file to WinSSHD. A problem where server replies
had embedded \r characters was fixed. This meant it was wrongly thought
that the reply was complete, when more was to come (resulting in out of
order replies further along).

  Tue, Nov 18th 2008 21:31

Security :: Cryptography
System :: Systems Administration

About: gnoMint is a tool for easily creating and managing certification
authorities. It provides fancy visualization of all the pieces of
information that pertain to a CA, such as x509 certificates, CSRs, and
CRLs. gnoMint is currently capable of managing a CA that emits certificates
that are able to authenticate people or machines in VPNs (IPSec or other
protocols), secure HTTP communications with SSL/TLS, authenticate and
cipher HTTP communications through Web-client certificates, and sign or
crypt email messages.

Changes: This version can import whole OpenSSL-generated CAs, PKCS#8
files, and PKCS#12 files. It adds an Italian and an initial German
translation. Some bugs have been fixed.

[019] - GNU ddrescue 1.9 (Stable)
  by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
  Tue, Nov 18th 2008 09:20

System :: Recovery Tools

About: GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file
or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue
data in case of read errors. GNU ddrescue does not truncate the output file
if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file, it
tries to fill in the gaps. The basic operation of GNU ddrescue is fully
automatic. That is, you don't have to wait for an error, stop the program,
read the log, run it in reverse mode, etc. If you use the logfile feature
of GNU ddrescue, the data is rescued very efficiently (only the needed
blocks are read). Also you can interrupt the rescue at any time and resume
it later at the same point.

Changes: The new option "--domain-logfile" has been added. Verbosity
control of user messages has been simplified. This release improves
portability by using the LLONG_MAX macro instead of LONG_LONG_MAX. This
release is also available in lzip format.

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Raster-Based
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

About: GraphicsMagick is a robust collection of tools and libraries which
support reading, writing, and manipulating an image in over 90 major
formats including popular formats like TIFF, JPEG, JPEG-2000,PNG, PDF,
PhotoCD, SVG, and GIF. A high-quality 2D renderer is included, which
provides a subset of SVG capabilities. C, C++, Perl, Tcl, and Ruby are
supported. Originally based on ImageMagick, GraphicsMagick focuses on
performance, minimizing bugs, and providing stable APIs and ABIs. It runs
on all modern variants of Unix, Windows, and Mac OS X.

Changes: Speed was improved. The system benchmarks even better against
ImageMagick than before. Multi-threading was tuned based on exhaustive
testing on many systems. Image rotate by 90 and 270 degrees is now
multi-threaded. The MSL/conjure utility is fixed and no longer leaks
memory. The RPM build is also fixed.

  Tue, Nov 18th 2008 21:44

Education

About: gWaei is a Japanese-English dictionary program for the GNOME
desktop. It is made to be a modern drop-in replacement for Gjiten, with
many of the same features. The dictionary files it uses are from Jim
Breen's WWWJDIC project and are installed separately through the program.
It features easy dictionary installation, support for searching using
regular expressions, streaming of results so the interface is never frozen,
and a simple interface that makes sense.

Changes: Searches are now about twice as fast. There is a new application
icon. You can search for hiragana words in kanji searches now. The Japanese
translation and template po are reworked. The save label has been changed
to Append. gwaei can print multiple pages now, and it adds a bit of
formatting to them. Help has been handed off to gnome_help. A kanji lookup
won't halt your results pane search. There are middle term install states
for the settings dialog. This release saves the font size. Ctrl-w now
closes all windows.

[030] - libv4l 0.5.4
  by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
  Tue, Nov 18th 2008 14:49

Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Hardware

About: libv4l is a collection of libraries that adds a thin abstraction
layer on top of video4linux2 (V4L2) devices. The purpose of this layer is
to make it easy for application writers to support a wide variety of
devices without having to write separate code for different devices in the
same class. It consists of 3 different libraries. libv4lconvert offers
functions to convert from any (known) pixel format to V4l2_PIX_FMT_BGR24 or
V4l2_PIX_FMT_YUV420. libv4l1 offers the (deprecated) v4l1 API on top of
v4l2 devices, independent of the drivers for those devices supporting v4l1
compatibility (which many v4l2 drivers do not). libv4l2 offers the v4l2 API
on top of v4l2 devices, while adding for the application transparent
libv4lconvert conversion where necessary.

Changes: Reporting of DQBUF errors on return of EAGAIN was eliminated to
avoid log flooding. Support was added for downscaling high-res-only devices
to low-res-only applications (such as Skype and spcaview). YV12 planar
conversion and RGB/BGR24 to YU/YV12 conversion were added.

About: Lzip is a lossless data compressor based on the LZMA algorithm,
with very safe integrity checking and a user interface almost identical to
the one of bzip2. Lzip decompresses almost as fast as gzip and compresses
better than bzip2, which makes it well suited for software distribution.

Changes: The short name of the option "--dictionary-size" has been changed
to "-s". The short name of the option "--match-length" has been changed to
"-m". A couple of build problems on BSD have been fixed. Some user messages

[035] - Pantheios 1.0.1 beta 173
  by Dr Proctor (http://freshmeat.net/users/DrProctor/)
  Tue, Nov 18th 2008 21:40

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Logging

About: Pantheios is a C/C++ logging API library. It offers an optimal
combination of complete type-safety, very high efficiency, genericity, and
extensibility. It is simple to use and extend, highly portable (platform
and compiler independent), and it upholds the C tradition of only paying
for what you use. Pantheios supports logging of message statements of
arbitrary complexity, consisting of heterogenous types. Pantheios supports
filtering of log messages based on severity level.

Changes: This release introduces a new flag,
PANTHEIOS_BE_SPEECH_F_UNINIT_DISCARD_WORKAROUND, which causes bec.speech to
discard its speech object reference at uninitialization, to work around
what is believed to be a defect in SAPI where the SAPI dll is unloaded
during application shutdown prior to the release of all outstanding
references. It also incorporates another tranche of widestring
compatibility changes, working towards full-support in a forthcoming
release.

  Tue, Nov 18th 2008 18:29

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring

About: phpLogCon is a Web front-end for syslog and other network event
data. It provides easy browsing, searching, basic analysis, and some
graphics. Data is taken from databases or plain syslog text files, so
phpLogCon does not require changes to an existing logging infrastructure.
Depending on the log data present, it can process syslog messages, Windows
event log entries, and some more exotic things. Its troubleshooting support
enables users to quickly find solutions to problems seen in the log data.

Changes: This release adds a new "cron" folder that contains a
maintenance.php script. This script can be used on the command line for
database maintenance. For more information, see the documentation. A typo
in the new column "DBRecordsPerQuery" in admin/sources.php that caused an
error when adding new database logstream sources has been fixed.

About: queXF (pronounced kweks-eff) takes scanned paper forms generated
using queXML and reads them. Operators can then verify that queXF has read
the form correctly. Once this is done, the data collected can be exported
in a fixed width ASCII file with a DDI data description. queXF can be used
as an alternative to programs such as Cardiff Teleform and Remark OMR, in
some situations. It removes the need to manually enter form data, therefore
reducing error and fatigue. It does OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) on each
form to determine if boxes have been filled, and can use Tesseract OCR to
determine what characters have been entered into boxes.

Changes: The client's ability to view forms (in the /client subdirectory)
was added. You can assign clients to forms by username, so they can review
the forms over the Internet. Support was added for Codabar barcode (in
addition to Interleaved 2 of 5).

[044] - rsyslog 4.1.0 (Development)
  by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
  Tue, Nov 18th 2008 18:27

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd. Among others, it
offers support for on-demand disk buffering, reliable syslog over TCP, SSL,
TLS, and RELP, writing to databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and many
more), email alerting, fully configurable output formats (including
high-precision timestamps), the ability to filter on any part of the syslog
message, on-the-wire message compression, and the ability to convert text
files to syslog. It is a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and able to
work with the same configuration file syntax.

Changes: This release contains many enhancements that allow the engine to
process many more events per second than any previous version. This was
made possible thanks to large changes inside the rsyslog core.
Consequently, there is ample room for bugs, so this version should be used
with care. Note that it also contains some additional bugfixes and small
feature enhancements that are not found in other versions.

passwd-based plugins available.

Changes: This release features mature Oracle and DB2 database replication.
Cluster callback tunneling with SSL was added for highly secure
inter-company communication. Mac OS X and iPhone client ports were added.

[053] - Xtables-addons 1.6
  by Jan Engelhardt (http://freshmeat.net/users/jengelh/)
  Tue, Nov 18th 2008 18:35

System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Xtables-addons is a package that mostly supersedes the old
patch-o-matic repository for the Linux kernel and iptables. Instead of
patching the kernel source, extensions are built as modules and thus allow
extending kernels without recompilation.

Changes: This release upgrades ipset to version 2.4.5 and made the package
compilable for the upcoming Linux 2.6.28.

[054] - xTests 0.9.2
  by Dr Proctor (http://freshmeat.net/users/DrProctor/)
  Tue, Nov 18th 2008 21:36

Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: xTests is a small, simple, lightweight, portable unit/component
testing library for exercising C and C++ libraries. It relies on no
platform-specific or compiler-specific constructs and doesn't require
pre-processing of your source code by scripting languages or use macros to
create secret classes that use Schwarz counters to register test cases. It
relies on you to simply code what you want, and nothing that you don't
want.

Changes: This release includes a number of changes to avoid precipitating
warnings about unused return values. It also includes definitions for
XTESTS_TEST_BOOLEAN_TRUE() and XTESTS_TEST_BOOLEAN_FALSE() test operations.
