[001] - AutoArchive 0.1.1
by Robert Cernansky (http://freshmeat.net/users/openhs/)
Wed, Nov 19th 2008 18:26
System :: Archiving
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Systems Administration
About: AutoArchive is a utility to help create backups more easily. It
uses tar for creating archives. The idea of the program is that all
information needed for making a backup is in one file. It has a command
line interface and supports incremental backups.
Changes: Better handling of archiver exit codes and failures. When tar
exits with code 1 (some files changed while being archived), the result of
the backup operation is not 'failed'. A notice message is printed instead.

[002] - AWFFull 3.9.1
by Steve McInerney (http://freshmeat.net/users/spm999/)
Wed, Nov 19th 2008 13:30
Internet :: Log Analysis
About: AWFFull is a Web server log analysis program, forked from
Webalizer. It adds a number of new features and improvements, such as GeoIP
capability, internationalisation, style changes via CSS, extended front
page history (more than 12 months), resizable graphs, and lots of backend
changes and simplification. The long term goal is to focus on Web
Analytics, not just Web Reporting.
Changes: The biggest new feature is Segmentation, as per marketing. Major
documentation updates were done, including splitting the man page into two.
Lots of fixes and less visible improvements were made. Only a minor fix was
done since version 3.9.1-beta3.

[003] - Back In Time 0.8.8
by Dan (http://freshmeat.net/users/danleweb/)
Wed, Nov 19th 2008 18:21
System :: Archiving :: Backup
Utilities
About: Back In Time is a simple backup system for the GNOME desktop
inspired by the "flyback project" and "TimeVault". The backup is done by
taking snapshots of a specified set of directories. All you have to do is
configure: where to save snapshot, what directories to backup, and when a
backup should be done (manually, every hour, every day, every week, or
every month). It acts as a "user mode" backup system. This means that you
can backup and restore only folders to which you have write access.
Changes: This release adds diff to SnapshotsDialog, and updates the
Spanish translation.

[006] - DJ Native Swing 0.9.7
by Chrriis (http://freshmeat.net/users/Chrriis/)
Wed, Nov 19th 2008 08:29
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: DJ Native Swing allows you to easily integrate some native
components into Swing applications, and provides some native utilities to
enhance Swing's APIs. The main focus is the integration of a native Web
browser and Flash Player using a Swing-like API. All the threading issues
and general integration headaches are handled automatically. It uses SWT
under the hood, and thus should work everywhere SWT can be placed inside a
Swing component.
Changes: XPCOM is available for the JWebBrowser when using XULRunner. A
new JSyntaxHighlighter component was added. The JHTMLEditor has an
additional editor implementation based on TinyMCE. There are also many

[009] - FastFormat 0.2.1 (alpha 10)
by Dr Proctor (http://freshmeat.net/users/DrProctor/)
Wed, Nov 19th 2008 08:34
Software Development :: Internationalization
Software Development :: Localization
About: FastFormat is a C/C++ output and formatting library whose design
parameters are complete type-safety, efficiency, genericity, and
extensibility. It is simple to use and extend, highly portable (to any
platform or compiler), and it upholds the C tradition of you only pay for
what you use. FastFormat supports output and formatting of statements of
arbitrary complexity, consisting of heterogeneous types. FastFormat writes
to output "sinks", which can be of arbitrary type.
Changes: This release adds facilities to the speech_sink to be able to
specify speech flags, and also to retrieve a (smart-pointer wrapped)
reference to the underlying speech object. It also sorts out the string
access shims for ff_string_slice_t, regardless of namespace
support/suppression for FastFormat and/or STLSoft.

[011] - Generic Grid Broker 0.2
by gridipedia (http://freshmeat.net/users/gridipedia/)
Wed, Nov 19th 2008 18:18
Software Development :: Libraries
About: The Generic Grid Broker component acts as a meta-scheduler sitting
on top of existing Grid middleware (such as Globus Toolkit, gLite, or
UNICORE). Its role is to intelligently schedule the execution of jobs on
the Grid with efficient and optimized management of resources. For example,
as the Globus Toolkit cannot select by itself a remote resource on which to
submit the job, it has to implement a meta-scheduler for handling some
high-level decisions.

System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: libburnia is a project comprised of libraries and binaries for
reading, mastering, and writing optical discs. It provides libburn, a
CD/DVD/BD burn library, libisofs, a manipulation library for ISO 9660
filesystems, and libisoburn, a ISO 9660 multi-session library. On top of
them there is cdrskin, a cdrecord emulator, and xorriso, a all-in-one
application for ISO 9660 multi-session operations which additionaly
provides a limited emulation of mkisofs.
Changes: If images that were generated by mkisofs were expanded by a

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
System :: Networking
About: Libev is a high-performance event loop for C (with optional and
separate interfaces for C++ and Perl), featuring support for I/O, timers
(relative and absolute, cron-like ones), signals, process status changes,
and other types of events. It has both a fast native API and libevent
emulation to support programs written using the libevent API. The libev
distribution consists of libevent with the core event handling parts
replaced by the libev embedded event loop. Differences to libevent include
higher speed, simpler design, more features, less memory usage,
embedability, and no arbitrary limits. libev supports epoll, kqueue,
Solaris event ports, poll, and select.
Changes: There have been no bugfixes in this release. The only major
change is that inotify is now used even on older kernels that are known to
be buggy, but only as a hint. Also, libev now has a small list of "known to
be good" filesystems where inotify is known to work, and will use inotify
as a hint only on other filesystems (such as NFS). The documentation has
been updated regarding the dangers of using stat watchers on networked file
systems.

[035] - Python Audio Tools 2.10
by Brian Langenberger (http://freshmeat.net/users/tuffy/)
Wed, Nov 19th 2008 15:35
Documentation
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing
About: Python Audio Tools is a collection of audio handling programs that
work from the command line. These include programs for CD extraction, track
conversion from one audio format to another, track renaming and retagging,
track identification, CD burning from tracks, and more. It supports
internationalized track filenames and metadata using Unicode. It works with
high-definition, multi-channel audio as well as CD-quality. Track
conversion uses multiple CPUs or CPU cores if available to greatly speed
the transcoding process. Track metadata can be retrieved from FreeDB or
FreeDB-compatible servers. Audio formats supported are WAV, FLAC, WavPack,
MP3, Ogg Vorbis, M4A, and more.
Changes: Support was added for several additional track metadata fields. A
program was included for identifying and fixing common metadata problems
such as trailing whitespace or empty fields. MP3 encoding was updated to
use LAME's 0-9 quality setting instead of named presets. A build error on
Mac OS X was fixed.

[042] - udpcast 20081116
by Alain (http://freshmeat.net/users/alainknaff/)
Wed, Nov 19th 2008 08:03
Communications
Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
About: UDPCast allows to send data simultaneously to many destinations on
a local net. This can for instance be used to install entire classrooms of
PCs at once. The advantage over using other methods (nfs, ftp, whatever) is
that udpcast uses Ethernet's multicast abilities: it won't take longer to
install 15 machines than it would to install 2. The tool comes with a
busybox bootdisk for easy loading of the tool. However, udpcast can also be
started from the command line of an already installed system, and can be
used for other purposes than just system installation.
Changes: Statistics are printed less often (only once every half second or
at a configurable interval). A workaround was made for an lseek bug on
Linux. A longer DHCP timeout is used in order to deal with slow switches.

Wed, Nov 19th 2008 08:07
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
About: urlwatch is a script intended to help you watch URLs and get
notified (via email) of any changes. The change notification will include
the URL that has changed and a unified diff of what has changed. The script
works out of a single directory, so there is no need to install anything.
State files are kept in the same folder. The script supports stripping
parts of a page that are always changing through the use of a filter hook
function. It is typically run as a cronjob.
Changes: Support for system-wide installation was added. The ~/.urlwatch/
directory is used for user settings. The BSD license is used. A setup.py
script was added. Command-line options and verbose logging mode were added.
Example files are copied on first start. A Unix manual page was added.

by scdbackup (http://freshmeat.net/users/scdbackup/)
Wed, Nov 19th 2008 21:18
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Filesystems
About: xorriso creates, loads, manipulates, and writes ISO 9660 filesystem
images with Rock Ridge extensions. It can load the management information
of existing ISO images, and it writes the session results to optical media
or to filesystem objects. This is the standalone version that incorporates
the libraries of libburnia-project.org and thus depends only on Linux 2.4
(or later), libc, and libpthread. No separate mkisofs and no CD/DVD burn
program are needed.
Changes: A bug in libisofs affected images that were generated by mkisofs.
If expanded by xorriso sessions, files of size 0 could hide the content of
their neighbors. Another bug prevented the SYSLINUX script isohybrid from
creating an MBR that would really boot.
