  by SAN (http://freshmeat.net/users/AndreasSchneider/)
  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 06:42

Database
Database :: Front-Ends
Utilities

About: Caché Monitor is an SQL development tool for InterSystems database
Caché. It features an advanced SQL query editor with SQL syntax
highlighting, SQL code completion with context sensitive information about
database objects (also known as Intellisense), an SQL history buffer for
executed SQL commands, SQL code formatting, parallel queries, graphical SQL
execution plan with index and selectivity information from every used index
in the plan, SQL abbreviations, and much more.

Changes: The system management portal and Caché documentation can easily
be started from a selected server. In the newly designed class viewer,
selecting the class node in the tree opens the Caché class documentation.
The SQL-view viewer was newly designed, displaying data, metadata, and the
SQL definition for the view. The class viewer was newly designed. The
execution plan TreeView was enabled, but only the HTML version works. In
some situations with the old Caché JDBC driver, the query analyzer is not
opened properly. This bug was fixed.

  by BenZ (http://freshmeat.net/users/zhaoxh/)
  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 21:39

System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions :: CD-Based
System :: Systems Administration

About: CDlinux is a compact Linux distribution. It is small in size, yet
rich in features. It ships with an up-to-date version of the Linux kernel,
Xorg, Xfce, and many popular applications. It has good internationalization
and locale support and is highly user-configurable.

Changes: This release adds a new GUI installation/upgrade wizard. The
"persistent mode" code has been rewritten, and persistent data is saved as
a squashfs image. fcitx has been replaced with scim to support IM for more
locales. There is full support for de_DE, en_CA, en_GB, fr_CA, fr_FR,
ja_JP, and ru_RU. There is support for "Safe Graphics Mode" in case the
native Xorg driver failed. It determines whether to run in RAM or loop mode
more intelligently. There is some fine-tuning to improve performance on
machines with lesser memory. There are many package upgrades.

  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 21:51

Communications
Internet
System :: Networking

About: CloudVPN is a VPN that allows mesh networking. It can create
secured networks with special or weird topologies. All nodes of the network
are equal and can connect in any way, so it's very easy to create
connection schemes with (for example) clustered servers, decentralized
servers, complete topologies for better throughput, ring topologies for
failover, long-line for passing through many routes, or tree topology for
optimizing inter-server bandwidth needs. It is very easy to get working.

Changes: Packaging cleanup, completed and tested ebuild installation for
Gentoo, a man page, and documentation fixes. CloudCTL script testing.

[010] - Crossroads Load Balancer 2.44
  by Karel Kubat (http://freshmeat.net/users/karelk/)
  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 14:32

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Networking

About: Crossroads is a daemon running in user space, and features
extensive configurability, polling of back ends using wake up calls, status
reporting, many algorithms to select the 'right' back end for a request
(and user-defined algorithms for very special cases), and much more.
Crossroads is service-independent: it is usable for any TCP service, such
as HTTP(S), SSH, SMTP, and database connections. In the case of HTTP
balancing, Crossroads can provide session stickiness for back end processes
that need sessions, but aren't session-aware of other back ends. Crossroads
can be run as a stand-alone daemon or via inetd, and features a management
Web interface for monitoring and for modification of parameters.

Changes: This version introduces the ability to rewrite Host: headers in
HTTP mode with the hostname of a back end to which Crossroads is
dispatching. The Activity overview of the Web interface now shows the
number of used file descriptors and the maximum limit. A number of bugs
were fixed and code parts were slightly reworked.

  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 19:51

Desktop Environment
Software Development :: User Interfaces
Text Editors :: Integrated Development Environments (IDE)

About: The Crow Designer is a visual editor for building graphical user
interfaces. Interfaces are saved in files of the GuiXml format and may be
involved in applications by means of the GuiLoader library. During editing,
the following instruments are available to a user: a palette of GUI
controls, an object tree, an editor canvas, and a hierarchical property
explorer. The property explorer allows you to work with nested objects and
arrays as well as with several selected objects simultaneously. The
designer uses widgets of the GTK+ library as a GUI control kit.

Changes: This release removes a run-time dependency (xdg-utils) and adds a
compile time dependency (boost-devel). devel package creation was removed
from the .spec file. There are various internal improvements.

[012] - dim versioning tool 0.5.2
  by Marc Vertes (http://freshmeat.net/users/mvertes/)
  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 06:48

Software Development :: Version Control
Utilities

About: Dim is a utility to help you track the changes of items (sets
composed of multiple files). It provides commands to handle the complete
lifecycle of version control operations: create a library, register users
(code authors), create items, save local versions, branch, clone, export,
import, remove, merge, archive, replicate library content over the network
or the filesystem, and access the full history and browse differences at
the library, item, file, line, or word level. Dim is a single
self-documented POSIX shell script. It just uses standard Unix utilities
like awk, diff, tar, and openssl.

Changes: This release provides support for full archives, removal and
re-import of versions, many internal changes to prepare support of
multi-item operations, and several important bugfixes.

[013] - dirac 1.0.2
  by Anuradha Suraparaju (http://freshmeat.net/users/asuraparaju/)
  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 06:44

Multimedia :: Video

About: Dirac is a general-purpose video codec aimed at resolutions from
QCIF (176x144) to HDTV (1920x1080), progressive or interlaced. It uses
wavelets, motion compensation, and arithmetic coding, and aims to be
competitive with other state-of-the-art codecs. The Open Source
implementation provides a C++ library with an encoder and decoder.

Changes: Minor bugs have been fixed. Compression efficiency is improved. A
DirectShow filter to play back Dirac files in Windows Media Player and

  by Tino (http://freshmeat.net/users/tino/)
  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 07:38

Desktop Environment :: Tools
System :: Diagnostics
System :: Systems Administration

About: Diskus is a high-level hard drive diagnostic and limited repair
tool. It checks the disk geometry by writing numbered IDs into the sectors
of the hard drive. Later one can verify that these sector-IDs on the disk
are still correct, thereby detecting data which was not correctly written.
There is an option to "freshen" the data on your harddrive, which will read
and rewrite the sectors. With modern drives this will re-map defective
sectors.

Changes: A hexdump option (-xd) was added.

[019] - GNU Rush 1.6
  by Wojciech Polak (http://freshmeat.net/users/ghostface/)
  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 14:51

About: GNU Rush is a Restricted User Shell designed for sites providing
limited remote access to their resources, such as SVN or Git repositories,
scp, or the like. Using a sophisticated configuration file, Rush gives you
complete control over the command lines that users execute, as well as over
the usage of system resources such as virtual memory, CPU time, etc. In
particular, it allows you to run remote programs in a chrooted environment,
which is important with such programs as sftp-server or scp that lack this
ability.

Changes: This version provides a largely improved configuration file
syntax that contains a rich set of transformation commands. In particular,
it is now possible to provide explicit arguments for transformations, to
delete command line arguments, and to set or modify the name of the binary
to be executed, as opposed to argv[0]. A special 'map' statement allows you
to look up replacement values in files of almost arbitrary format. Support
for executing interactive shells is also included in this version.

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: The GOBLIN project consists of a C++ class library for a large
series of graph optimization problems, GOSH, an extension of the Tcl/Tk
scripting language to graph objects, and GOBLET, a graphical user interface
to the library functions. GOBLET includes a graph editor and supports the
standard graph layout methods.

Changes: This release addresses perfect graphs: a linear test for
chordality and co-chordality has been added. Constructors for permutation,
threshold, and interval graphs are also available. BFS, the max-flow code,
and non-weighted matching code have been revised, and now operate on the
node color register (integer) instead of the node distance labels.

powerful set of functionality for one of PHP's major applications. It eases
handling of HTTP URLs, dates, redirects, headers, and messages, provides
means for negotiation of clients' preferred language and charset, as well
as a convenient way to send any arbitrary data with caching and resuming
capabilities. It provides powerful request functionality if built with CURL
support. Parallel requests are available for PHP 5 and greater.

Changes: This release fixes bug #15495 (HttpMessage::setHttpVersion
segfault), bug #15497 (HttpInflateStream::finish segfault), bug #15499
(HttpRequest::addHeaders segfault), bug #15509 (HttpMessage::rewind memory
leaks), bug #15800 (Double free when zval is separated in convert_to_*),
and bug #15813 (Requests not removed from multi stack when fatal errors
occur with fcgi).

[028] - KInterbasDB 3.3

  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 19:52

Database :: API
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Database :: Front-Ends

About: KInterbasDB is a Python extension package that implements Python
Database API 2.0-compliant support for the open source relational database
Firebird and some versions of its proprietary cousin Borland Interbase. In
addition to the minimal feature set of the standard Python DB API,
KInterbasDB also exposes nearly the entire native client API of the
database engine.

Changes: It is now possible to use multiple transactions simultaneously on
a single kinterbasdb.Connection. If a Unicode object is passed as the SQL
statement, KInterbasDB will attempt to encode it to the character set of
the filesystem (in the case of kinterbasdb.create_database) or to the
character set of the connection (in the other cases). Previously, only
Unicode objects that could be encoded to ASCII were accepted.

About: md5chk is a tool for creating MD5 sums. It was designed so that its
output would be easy to use with command line shells. It guarantees that
the MD5 sum is always "clean" of characters that would be misinterpreted by
the shell and that special characters in the file names are always properly

  by Jemmy Chen (http://freshmeat.net/users/jemmyc/)
  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 14:31

About: Speech and Debate Timekeeper is a multi-platform debate timer for
various debate formats and individual events. It has speech order and time
limits preprogrammed for Policy, Lincoln-Douglas, Parliamentary, Public
Forum, World Schools, Karl Popper, and miscellaneous debate formats. It
also tracks prep time for both sides. All time limits are user adjustable.
These timers give visual and/or vocal time signals at user defined
intervals. At the end of each speech, cross-examination, or preparation,
the timer automatically sets itself to time the next thing that needs
timing at the push of a button.

Changes: The NFA Lincoln-Douglas debate format has been added. The window
is now always on top of other windows. Spoken time signals during speeches
are less verbose. The Start/Stop button is green for Start and red for
Stop. Other GUI enhancements include a larger menu button and a "View Prep"
button next to it for quick access to the running prep time display.

About: System Configuration Collector (SCC) is yet another configuration
collector. It consists of a client and a server part. The client collects
configuration data in a structured snapshot, compares the new snapshot with
the previous one, and adds differences to a logbook. Then the snapshot and
the logbook are converted to HTML for local inspection. Optionally, the
data can be sent to a system running the server software. On the server,
summaries of the data are generated, and search/compare operations on the
snapshots and logbooks are available via a Web interface.

Changes: SCC is now available in PiSi format for Pardus. Support has been
added for CRUX, Pardus, Engarde, and VectorLinux. An elementary collector
for WebSphere has been implemented. Many configuration files have been
added to the collectors. All software is now produced as root to avoid

[056] - SystemRescueCd 1.1.5
  by François Dupoux (http://freshmeat.net/users/fdupoux/)
  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 18:54

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Diagnostics
System :: Filesystems

About: SystemRescueCd is a Linux system available from a bootable CDROM
that provides an easy way to perform administrative tasks on your computer,
such as creating and editing the partitions of the hard disk or backing up
data. It contains a lot of system utilities (such as parted, partimage, and
fstools), and basic programs (such as editors, midnight commander, and
network tools). It also includes GParted, a Partition Magic clone that
makes editing partitions easy with its graphical user interface. This CDROM
aims to be very easy to use and accessible to everybody, and it also
provides advanced personalization features.

Changes: This version is focused on improving ext4 support. The standard
32-bit and 64-bit kernels have been updated to Linux 2.6.27.14 with Reiser4
and ext4 updates backported from 2.6.29-rc. e2fsprogs has been updated to
version 1.41.4 (it comes with important ext4 fixes). Other filesystem tools
have been updated: fsarchiver to 0.4.1, btrfs (kernel module and tools) to
0.18, ntfs3g to 2009.1.1, GParted to 0.4.2, and GRUB to 0.97-r9. tar has
been patched to add support for xattr/acl/selinux. The whatis/locate
databases and the sysresccd-cleansys scripts that help to make the live CD
smaller have been fixed.

[059] - Tokyo Cabinet 1.4.5
  by Mikio Hirabayashi (http://freshmeat.net/users/mikio/)
  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 07:43

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Tokyo Cabinet is a library of routines for managing a database. It
is the successor of QDBM. Tokyo Cabinet runs very fast. For example, the
time required to store 1 million records is 1.5 seconds for a hash database
and 2.2 seconds for a B+ tree database. Moreover, the database size is very
small. For example, the overhead for a record is 16 bytes for a hash
database, and 5 bytes for a B+ tree database. Furthermore, the scalability
of Tokyo Cabinet is great. The database size can be up to 8EB.

Changes: Bugs related to a race condition in the hash database API were
fixed. Utility functions were added for the table database API.

[061] - uHub 0.2.5
  by Jan Vidar Krey (http://freshmeat.net/users/jvk/)
  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 01:32

Communications :: File Sharing
Communications :: File Sharing :: Direct Connect

About: µHub is a high performance peer-to-peer hub for the ADC network.
Its low memory footprint allows it to handle several thousand users on
high-end servers, or a small private hub on embedded hardware. It uses the
ADC protocol, and is compatible with DC++, jUCy, and other ADC clients.

Changes: This release fixes problems with users being thrown out of large
hubs due to an excessive send queue that is directly caused by the login
action itself. In addition, several hub commands have been added, and the
code has been cleaned up somewhat.

[062] - VideoCache 1.9
  by Kulbir Saini (http://freshmeat.net/users/kulbirsaini/)
  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 18:52

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Multimedia :: Video

About: VideoCache is a squid URL rewriter plugin written in Python that
traps the requests to Squid for various audio/video Web sites and caches
the audio/video in the local storage on a proxy server for serving
subsequent requests for the same audio/video. It caches the audio/video
independently of Squid's caching system. The cached files are stored in a
browsable fashion.

Changes: This release supports multiple caching directories separated by
'|' in the configuration file. It has a cache cleaner script to remove
unused videos automatically. The last modified time of a video is updated
whenever it's a CACHE_HIT to help the removal script. There is support for
YouTube videos served directly from an IP address (without using domain
names). Support has been added for tube8 videos for mobile platforms. A log
misbehavior bug has been fixed.

[063] - VRaptor 2.6.0
  by Rafael de F. Ferreira (http://freshmeat.net/users/rafaeldff/)
  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 19:55

Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: VRaptor 2 is a Web-based MVC and IOC framework based on many
frameworks and ideas (Seam, Stripes, Webwork, Hibernate Annotations, etc).
It makes full use of Java 5 Annotations. It favors convention over
configuration, because configuration in XML/properties/annotations is
always easy to make mistakes and repetitive (aka copy and paste in many
places). This framework uses a more imperative approach, instead of having
many XML files to configure lifecycle and other properties. Most of the
settings go inside plain Java objects (POJO), so the team knows exactly
what is going on and where.

Changes: The highlight of this release is a new way to offer more
user-friendly URIs for your application. There are also a bevy of API
cleanups and bugfixes.

[064] - vshnu 1.0304
  by Steve Kinzler (http://freshmeat.net/users/kinzler/)
  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 19:56

Desktop Environment :: File Managers
System :: Systems Administration

About: Vshnu is a visual shell for Linux/Unix finally done right. Best
used as an optional color visual mode to a regular command line shell,
vshnu is handy for powerful directory listing and navigation, Unix command
assembly, special actions on file types, and fileset handling. Written in
Perl for portability and high configurability, it also provides the
advantages of a Perl interpreter as part of your Unix shell environment.

Changes: This release adds an S command for piping chosen files into a
shell command, and an ^O command for running a shell command for each
chosen file.

[065] - Xataface 1.1.4
  by Steve Hannah (http://freshmeat.net/users/shannah/)
  Thu, Feb 12th 2009 01:34

Database
Database :: Front-Ends
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: Xataface is a flexible and shapable skin that sits on top of MySQL,
making it accessible to every-day users. It automatically generates the
appropriate forms, lists, and menus for a user to interact with the
database without having to know any SQL. It is a full-featured Web
application framework, and gives developers the flexibility to customize
the features and behavior of their application via configuration files
(using the simple INI-file syntax), templates, and plug-ins. A generic
application with no customizations is completely functional, but the
developer is free to customize things at his leisure.

Changes: This release adds the ability to delete attached files. It fixes
issues with searches on related fields when a relationship is defined with
table aliases as part of the query. Grafted fields are now included in
related records.
