Software Development :: Version Control

About: Bazaar is a simple decentralized revision control system.
Decentralized revision control systems give users the ability to branch
remote repositories to a local context. Users can commit to local branches
without requiring special permission from the branches that they branched
from.

Changes: This release contains many improvements to the speed,
documentation, and functionality of "bzr log" and the display of logged
revisions by "bzr status". bzr now also gives a better indication of
progress, both in the way operations are drawn onto a text terminal, and by
showing the rate of network IO.

Database :: Front-Ends
Utilities

About: Caché Monitor is an SQL development tool for InterSystems database
Caché. It features an advanced SQL query editor with SQL syntax
highlighting, SQL code completion with context sensitive information about
database objects (also known as Intellisense), an SQL history buffer for
executed SQL commands, SQL code formatting, parallel queries, graphical SQL
execution plan with index and selectivity information from every used index
in the plan, SQL abbreviations, and much more.

Changes: Global Viewer is now working (don't use it on big globals,
currently there is no limit!). The Table-Viewer has more filter functions
available from the context menu (look at the Data Panel and right-click on
the table). Startup is now faster.

  Fri, Feb 13th 2009 08:00

Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Widget Sets

About: Client-side GChart is a pure-GWT client-side charting solution. It
does not require browser plugins, external JavaScript, or server
round-trips. The package supports bar, line, and pie charts, custom ticks,
left and right y axes, grid-lines, annotated data points, pop-ups, click
events, and more.

Changes: As illustrated by the live demo's "LayZLine Chart Editor", the
new getMouseCoordinate method can be used to add points to a chart at the
position where the user clicked. The closely related clientToModel and
modelToClient methods let you convert between client-window pixel
coordinates and the model coordinates associated with any chart axis.
There's also a method to change GChart's default curve colors. Several bugs
were fixed.

About: DynaStop is a utility to examine IPv4 based addresses for Exim and
procmail for the purpose of filtering based upon patterns defined by the
administrator. This can be a pivotal factor in email filtering and server
load management, since dynamic IP addresses are typically used for dial-up,
DHCP, and DSL accounts. All of which have a designated mail exchange server
through which all outbound mail flows as defined with many, if not most,
large Internet service providers.

[010] - edtFTPj 2.0.4 (Stable)
  by EDT (http://freshmeat.net/users/bigbird/)
  Fri, Feb 13th 2009 22:02

Software Development :: Libraries

About: edtFTPj is an FTP client library that allows any Java application
to have full embedded FTP functionality. It includes an easy-to-use API
with methods such as downloadFile() and uploadFile(). Most FTP commands are
supported, as well as active and passive modes. edFTPj has been extensively
tested and is widely used in thousands of projects.

Changes: A fixe for a bug where the control socket wasn't closed if
connect succeeded but initial commands failed. Refactored directory listing
parsing. A fix for Korean months in UnixFileParser. FTPFile.isFile(). A fix
for a bug in FTPInputStream.read(). A fix for a bug in Logger where the
edtftp.log.level property was not set correctly. For resuming uploads, SIZE
is sent prior to establishing a data socket. Automatic retry for FTP
transfers. A fix for a hang when server replies had embedded \r chars.

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Security :: Cryptography

About: edtFTPj/PRO is a Java library that performs secure file transfers.
It supports FTPS (FTP over SSL), both explicit and implicit modes, and SFTP
(FTP via SSH). It also supports asynchronous transfers and FTP connection
pools. All major FTP operations are supported, including both active and
passive modes. It provides a progress monitor interface, allowing
applications to receive progress updates for their file transfers. The
library is built on the open source edtFTPj and shares its API.

Changes: Ignores errors from FX_STAT while listing directories. Some
directories on some servers (such as '/') seem to permit listing but return
"File does not exist" when FX_STAT-ed. Restricts the size of FXP_WRITE data
block to max packet size. Fixes a SecureFileTransferClient hang when
connect() fails in some situations. Fixes a SecureFileTransferClient hang
when uploadByteArray() fails. Makes directory listing in SFTP smarter (if a
composite path is supplied). A fix for Korean months in UnixFileParser.
Tweaks to retry functionality.

  Fri, Feb 13th 2009 00:27

Software Development :: Internationalization
Software Development :: Localization

About: FastFormat is a C/C++ output and formatting library whose design
parameters are complete type-safety, efficiency, genericity, and
extensibility. It is simple to use and extend, highly portable (to any
platform or compiler), and it upholds the C tradition of you only pay for
what you use. FastFormat supports output and formatting of statements of
arbitrary complexity, consisting of heterogeneous types. FastFormat writes
to output "sinks", which can be of arbitrary type.

Changes: This release adds support for Borland 5.9.x and 6.1.x, and
adjusts the discrimination of the filter_type mechanism support to allow
versions of Borland from 6.1 or later to make use of it. Also included is a
weakening of an over-strong pre-condition enforcement in format processing,
updated project and solution files for Visual C++ 9, and several other
minor fixes and enhancements. This release bundles xTests 0.10.4, and
depends on STLSoft 1.9.74.

About: Freelords is a rewrite of the well-known Warlords II. It mainly
resembles Warlords, but also extends the game, e.g. units have hit points
and the save, and configuration files have an easy-to-read XML format.

Changes: The most important change is probably the idea that all players
now move their units simultaneously. A preferences dialog has been added.
There are various bugfixes. More code is commented. There are many new
graphics (especially unit images), seamless drawing of tiles, an item

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: Httpx takes over the front-line position of binding and listening
on the public address and port of your virtual Web hosting server. In this
role, it scans incoming requests looking for the HTTP/1.1 Host: request
header entity. Once the Host: value is found for a given request, it is
routed to a UNIX domain socket in the local file system located through a
database lookup. Over this UNIX domain socket, an inter-process descriptor
pass occurs to a Web server modified slightly to receive TCP socket
descriptors passed over a UNIX domain socket instead of binding, listening
for, and accepting TCP sockets. This allows vhosts to share an IP address
while having private, host-specific, potentially unique httpd contexts.

Changes: A corner-case UNIX domain socket leak has been plugged.

[028] - Paperkey 1.1
  by David Shaw (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidshaw/)
  Fri, Feb 13th 2009 22:03

Security :: Cryptography

About: A reasonable way to achieve a long term backup of OpenPGP (GnuPG,
PGP, etc) keys is to print them out on paper. Due to metadata and
redundancy, OpenPGP secret keys are significantly larger than just the
"secret bits". In fact, the secret key contains a complete copy of the
public key. Since the public key generally doesn't need to be backed up in
this way (most people have many copies of it on various keyservers, Web
pages, etc), only extracting the secret parts can be a real advantage.
Paperkey extracts just those secret bytes and prints them. To reconstruct,
you re-enter those bytes (whether by hand or via OCR), and paperkey can use
them to transform your existing public key into a secret key.

Changes: A minor bugfix for Windows platforms. The instructions on how to
restore a key without the paperkey program are a bit clearer.

  Fri, Feb 13th 2009 18:28

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: SafeSquid is a content filtering proxy server. It supports
'profiled' Internet access, a browser based interface, very fast
throughput, DNS caching, content caching, pre-fetching, bandwidth control,
virus scanning, ICP, CARP, and ICAP clients, source, target, and time-based
granular firewall style rules to allow or deny content like music, videos,
Flash and Java applets, messengers, chats, cookies, ActiveX, scripts, etc.,
remote authentication, real-time text and image analysis for blocking
pornography, and an URL filter.

Changes: Improved mechanisms for addressing CLOSE_WAIT related problems.
This release can reclaim both half-open and half-closed sockets (CLOSE_WAIT
state connections) and reuse them for both inbound and outbound
connections. A logical flaw that caused a memory leak on application of
profiles under certain conditions is fixed. The cProfiles feature has been
enhanced for speed. Depending upon user configuration, resolution speed
will be about 30 to 70% faster. The init script has been improved, and a
few more parameters have been made tunable via startup.conf.

  Fri, Feb 13th 2009 18:38

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: Social Networks Visualiser (SocNetV) imports and exports various
network file formats (pajek, sociomatrix, dot) and displays the network on
screen. It can create random networks (lattice, same degree, etc.). The
user can visually modify an existing network or draw a new one using the
mouse. Network and actor properties, such as distances, centralities,
diameter, etc., can easily be computed.

Changes: 'Small World' random network creation (Watts and Strogatz model).
Clustering Coefficient calculation. Average Graph Distance (shortest path
length) calculation. Nodes can be linked to themselves with nice Bezier
curves. Negative and decimal edge weights are now fully supported. Dashed
lines are nicely used to signify negative edge weights. You can export the
current network to PDF with one click. Number and label colors are
editable. A number and label font size problem, PNG and BMP export
regression, and a printing regression are fixed. There is a new program
logo and icon.

About: Trad4 is a fully concurrent, thread safe, graph based programming
language that scales linearly on multiple cores. It is initially intended
for deployment in the financial industry to model real-time risk. It is a
new way of arranging programs in memory and a new style of flow-of-control.

Changes: Inheritance of the interface was introduced to allow for this
model to be built. This allows for types with different functions to share
the same interface with a base type (analogous to a pure virtual base class

allows for any type to connect to any other because any derived type 'is a'
numeric.

[042] - TSM Monitor 0.8
  by micha (http://freshmeat.net/users/m_clemens/)
  Fri, Feb 13th 2009 18:34

About: TSM monitor is a Web application written in PHP to help TSM
administrators quickly get reports and health status information from their
TSM servers. It generates its content dynamically so one can easily add or
modify queries to adapt the application to one’s own needs. It features
customizable queries, a dynamically generated navigation menu, an overview
page with traffic light logic, graphical timetable charts for queries with
start and end time (like backups and schedules), multiple servers, login
protection (authentication against a default TSM server), and result
caching for better performance.

Changes: Serverlist has an alternative to the server drop down box for
environments with many servers. You can sort query result tables by column
dynamically. There is a small infobox in the sidebar that explains the
current query. Queries like “show me all backups of node xyz” are now
possible with dynamically modified queries through a search field. The
Traffic Light System provides visualization of different states in query
results.

GNU Indent, BCPP, and Uncrustify. Its main feature is a live preview to
directly see how the selected formatting options affect the source code.

Changes: This release fixes a security issue that could add a
vulnerability to the temp directory on Unix-based systems. As with nearly
every release, a new indenter was added. From now on, Fortran is supported
by using the indenter F90ppr. The plugin package was broken. This has been
