[001] - Argyll Color Management System 0.51
by Graeme Gill (http://freshmeat.net/users/ggill/)
Sat, Dec 18th 2004 06:57
Multimedia :: Graphics
Printing
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Argyll is an experimental ICC-compatible color management system.
It supports accurate ICC profile creation for scanners, CMYK printers,
film recorders, and display monitors. Spectral sample data is supported,
allowing a selection of illuminants observer types, and paper fluorescent
whitener additive compensation. Profiles can also incorporate
source-specific gamut mappings for perceptual and saturation intents.
Gamut mapping and profile linking uses the CIECAM02 appearance model, a
unique gamut mapping algorithm, and a wide selection of rendering intents.
It also includes code for a fast, portable 8-bit raster color conversion
engine, as well as support for fast, fully accurate 16-bit conversion.
Device color gamuts can also be viewed and compared using a VRML viewer.
Changes: This release adds precompiled binaries for three platforms, fixes
problems in scanin/scanin caused by changes made to get the ColorCheckerDC
working, reverts to the old correlation code (scan chart recognition seems
to work well on both IT8 and ColorCheckerDC charts), adds support for a
black channel ink limit in nearly all utilities that currently support a
total ink limit, and updates the documentation.

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
About: arpalert uses ARP address monitoring to help prevent unauthorized
connections on the local network. If an illegal connection is detected, a
program or script is launched, which could be used to send an alert
message, for example.
Changes: This version cleans up the code, makes the log messages uniform,
and translates all messages into English. The function that kills child
processes was rewritten.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Message Boards
About: AudienceConnect is a revenue-generating Python CGI solution for
independent content providers. Requests for dynamic content are routed
through PayPal. Previews of that content are generated as static HTML for
search engines to harvest. Self-publishers can upload and publish
remotely, or the editorial CGI can be used to view and publish
submissions. Demo site content is plain text, but AudienceConnect can be
extended to deliver any digital content: sound files, image files, etc.
Installation is very simple; no database technologies are used. The
related modules are completely independent and require only access to
Python 1.5.2 in your cgi-bin.
Changes: This release alters the links in the static index page.

[009] - Efax-gtk 2.2.14 (Stable)
by Chris Vine (http://freshmeat.net/users/cvine/)
Sat, Dec 18th 2004 13:24
About: Efax-gtk provides a GUI frontend for the efax fax program. It
interfaces with efax directly, replacing the scripts supplied with efax,
and can be used for receiving and sending faxes, and for viewing,
printing, and managing faxes which have been received and sent. It
requires the GTK+ and Gtkmm libraries. Ghostscript (gs) must also be
installed.
Changes: This release fixes a segmentation fault which occurred if a fax
for sending is received from the print system and the program has been
started in the system tray and never raised. The program now checks
whether it is already running when it starts up, and if it is, it brings
up the existing program instance on the current workspace. The Bulgarian
translation was updated.

[015] - GNU Anubis 4.0 (Stable)
by Wojciech Polak (http://freshmeat.net/users/ghostface/)
Sat, Dec 18th 2004 15:08
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Security :: Cryptography
About: GNU Anubis is an SMTP message submission daemon. It represents an
intermediate layer between the mail user agent (MUA) and mail transport
agent (MTA), receiving messages from the MUA, applying to them a set of
predefined changes, and finally inserting modified messages into an MTA
routing network. The set of changes applied to a message is configurable
on a system-wide and per-user basis. The built-in configuration language
used for defining sets of changes allows for considerable flexibility and
is easily extensible.
Changes: In this release, the new authentication and authorization mode
has been introduced, which does not require client machines to run an AUTH
server (identd). It uses the standard SMTP AUTH capability. The user's
database can be kept on the server machine in any of the following
formats: plain text, GDBM, MySQL, or PostgreSQL. The program is now
extensible via Guile. The configuration file grammar has been heavily
improved. It features several new syntactical entities, allows nesting of
conditional statements to arbitrary depth, and is easily extended using
Guile. A test suite was added.

Desktop Environment :: Gnome
About: Gnumeric is a powerful and easy to use spreadsheet using GNOME. Its
goal is to provide a full featured spreadsheet and a smooth migration path
for people and organizations currently using proprietary applications. It
provides more sheet functions and greatly improved accuracy when compared
to Microsoft's Excel. A plugin system lets you extend Gnumeric, adding
functions, I/O formats, and real time data capabilities. The existing
Python, Guile, and Perl plugins let you define complex functions. Gnumeric
is capable of reading and writing MS Excel, and reading Lotus, Applix,
Quattro Pro, OpenCalc, XBase, DIF, SYLK, HTML, Psion, MPS, oleo, sc, misc.
text formats, and its native XML. It can also generate Latex, HTML, and
others.
Changes: Improved Microsoft Excel compatibility, better charting, improved
accuracy, portability to Win32 and small devices, network transparency,
even more sheet functions, rich text, improved printing, and GTK+ 2.4/2.6
integration.

[040] - Plash 1.2
by mseaborn (http://freshmeat.net/users/mseaborn/)
Sat, Dec 18th 2004 06:54
Security
About: Plash (the Principle of Least Authority Shell) is a Unix shell that
lets you run Unix programs with access only to the files and directories
they need to run. In order to implement this, the filesystem is
virtualized. Each process can have its own namespace, which can contain a
subset of your files. This is implemented by modifying GNU libc and
replacing the system calls that use filenames. For example, open() is
changed so that it sends a message to a file server via a socket. If the
request is successful, the server sends the client a file descriptor.
Processes are run as the user 'nobody' in a chroot jail. No kernel
modifications are required.
Changes: This release fixes open64() in libc so that it doesn't use the
"open" syscall, removes filesystem syscalls from libpthread.so, fixes a
bug in the server's handling of multiple processes, implements pipes in
the shell, adds syntax for running programs conventionally (this means
it's now practical to use Plash as your main shell), adds support for "#!"
scripts, and adds an options window for enabling logging.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Editors
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
About: Quod Libet is an audio player that lets you use all features
available in the ID3 and Ogg Vorbis tagging standards. It supports
arbitrary tag names and multiple values per tag, and is aware of the more
obscure tags such as 'version', 'conductor', or 'discnumber'. Playlists
are constructed by searching your audio library's tags, either by a text
search or a simple regular expression-based query syntax. It also supports
editing tags, including editing many files at once even if they are
different audio formats.
Changes: An on-screen display when changing songs was added. New command
line interfaces were added (--query, --seek-to, --play-file). Songs can be
deleted from the playlist view. Many UI tweaks were made, including an
option to hide the playlist, the ability to change accelerators, and the
ability to reorder playlist columns. Many bugs were fixed.

by Florian Breit (http://freshmeat.net/users/emcee/)

Internet
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
System :: Networking
About: Simple Server provides an interface for implementing TCP socket
servers by handling the connections, and sending and retrieving data to
the clients that connect to the server. The class has the ability to
buffer the data received from the clients. The data may be returned to
the calling script in smaller chunks split by a given divider character
sequence. This is convenient for line-oriented protocols with which the
line break and line feed character sequence is used to delimit the
protocol commands.
Changes: A second class for Callback based handling of the connections was
added. This class allows you to add view signals and the callback functions
for them, and then start a main loop simply by calling the srv::main()
method. It is possible to define a signal callback for default/unknown
signals, client exit, and client connection.

server, if a feature fails for some reason the rest of the server creation
will still go ahead. A database name can be specified when creating a

building of source archives. It is a fork of installwatch that has been
heavily updated with modern features. It can prevent build tools from
interfering with files outside the build directory and create a virtual
chroot to perform installations in or backup the files the install
overwrites.
