Religion
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: Accountability Pal monitors your network and keeps track of who is
using the Internet and what they are viewing, downloading, uploading, etc.
It emails a report of each user's activity to the person/people you
specify. It will monitor HTTP traffic, Peer-to-Peer, FTP, and more. It
uses a plugin interface to allow others to easily add new protocols to its
monitoring abilities.

Changes: A Windows version was created with an installer. Encrypted PDF
reports are now supported.

Software Development

About: The ActiveBPEL engine is a robust runtime environment capable of
executing process definitions created according to the Business Process
Execution Language for Web Services (BPEL4WS, or just BPEL) 1.1
specifications.

Changes: You can now specify your own invoke handler per partnerRole. The
ability to resolve 'well known' schemas imported by namespace only (schema
import) has been added, it's possible to import other schemas from within
the same WSDL file. A bug in tracking outstanding replies has been fixed.
An issue in AePortTypeImpl where the namespace wasn't being resolved
correctly has been fixed. Help has been updated. A new Web services I/O
project has been added; code refactorings reflect this.

[003] - AllTray 0.3
  by jebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/jebe/)
  Mon, Jan 10th 2005 10:05

Desktop Environment :: Tools

About: AllTray is software that allows users to dock any application into
the system tray/notification area. A highlight feature is that a click on
the "close" button of an application will minimize it to the system
tray. It works well with Gnome, KDE, and XFCE4.

Changes: Windows are identified and detected in a way similar to that used
by a taskbar. This allows the docking of any program with a simple command
instead of having to fiddle around with Xlib stuff. Code cleanup and small
bugfixes were done.

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
System :: Logging

About: Bandwidth Management Tools is a total bandwidth management solution
for Linux and can be used for firewalling, traffic graphing, and shaping.
It is not based on any currently-available bandwidth management software
and supports packet queues, bursting, complex traffic flow hierarchies,
flow groups, traffic logging, and a simple real-time monitoring front-end.

Changes: Documentation on how to use bwm tools was added. The usage
information of various utilities was fixed up. bwm_graph now generates rrd
files, and optionally generates graphs. bwm_firewall can now pump a
firewall directly into iptables-restore. Usage has changed for nearly all
of the commands; refer to ./command_name --help for more details. iptables
counters are optionally reset. More exact versions were added to the bwm
tools requirements.

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: BitTorrent Queue Manager is a console-based BitTorrent client
running on top of BitTornado that provides built-in queue management
functions. It also provides a remote interface compatible with ABC for
Web-based control. Furthermore, peer information can be queried,
including country and network names, and a built-in crawler can gather
new torrents on specified trackers or catalog sites for downloading
automatically.

Changes: The default rerequest interval was increased to 20 minutes and an
upgrade was made to BitTornado 0.3.9b. A low disk space check was
implemented. Tables are now rendered dynamically and a table header was
added. Download priorities were added in files, and --saveas and
--priority commands were included. do_add() now returns an ID. Metadata
can now be added directly with XMLRPC. A peers command was implemented for
listing peers in a connection queue. Priorities generation grammar was
added.

Changes: This version introduced several advanced effects: threshold,
unsharp mask, spherical gradient, and motion tracking. Shift-clicking on
an effect boundary now makes the trimming change only the one effect
instead of all the effects on the same boundary. A new status indicator in
the compositor shows when the current frame is being processed. On the time
bar, ctrl-middle button now selects the previous time format and ctrl-left
button selects the next. A large number of bugfixes made this release more

  Mon, Jan 10th 2005 10:06

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP

About: The DBMAIL package replaces the normal UNIX mailing system. All
email and user data is stored in a database. You can create an unlimited
number of email accounts, which can be checked using the POP3 or IMAP
protocol. Users can maintain their own set of email addresses. It is more
scalable, more secure, and faster than traditional mail systems. DBMAIL
has storage drivers for PostgreSQL and MySQL, and it has authentication
drivers for PostgreSQL, MySQL, and LDAP.

Changes: Both small and bigger bugs have been fixed. Infinite loops in
both the POP3 and the IMAP daemon have been fixed, making these services
much more stable. Also, Apache-style pre-forking has been merged from the
2.1 codebase, making the number of running daemons much more configurable
and adaptable to the number of clients connected.

[055] - Nini 0.9.1
  by Brent R. Matzelle (http://freshmeat.net/users/bmatzelle/)
  Mon, Jan 10th 2005 09:32

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Nini is an uncommonly powerful .NET configuration library. The goal
of this project is to provide developers with a tool that makes it easy to
write highly configurable applications in a short amount of time.

Changes: This release contains many small enhancements. ToString was
overridden, and an empty constructor was added for creating configs in
memory to the Xml, Ini, and DotNet sources. The GetValues method was added
to IConfig, and the Reload method was added to IConfigSource. Verbose (-v)
and new file (-n) switches were added to the Nini Editor. A new section,
"Using Nini Effectively," was added to the manual. Several bugfixes were
made.

  Mon, Jan 10th 2005 08:44

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Oliver (formerly "WebShare") is a PHP-based FTP front-end, released
under the GPL. It allows people to access files normally only available via
FTP, effectively providing users with a complete Web-based file management
system that, if SSL is enabled on the Web server, uses a single secure
connection. This makes it far simpler to use through a firewall. At
present, Oliver has only been tested with ProFTPd and PureFTPd but it
should work with many others.

Changes: Many bugs, including those resulting in PHP warnings, have been
fixed. Sessions now have a configurable timeout. More languages were
added, so Dutch, English, French, German, and Portuguese (Brazil) are now
supported. Extra configuration options were included.

[085] - Vstr string library 1.0.14
  by Nevyn (http://freshmeat.net/users/nevyn/)
  Mon, Jan 10th 2005 04:23

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Vstr is a safe and fast string library for C. It is designed for
network communication. Its design uses chunks of ptr+length data, so
adding, substituting, and deleting data are all fast operations. This
model also allows it to do automatic referencing for mmap() areas of
memory. Shortcut APIs are included to mmap() a file into a Vstr string,
and read()/write() data to/from a Vstr string. Another big feature of the
library is a POSIX and ISO 9899:1999 compliant printf() like function,
which can also be extended with user supplied formatters that are gcc
warning compatible. The total API is over 280 functions, but laid out in a
easy to remember manner, including data parsing functions, a
non-destructive split() function, and conversion functions (among others).

Changes: Some corner case bugs found in applications were fixed. Unit
testing is still at 100% code coverage. Some minor tweaks were made to
make the API friendlier. The HTTPD example application should now be
faster, HTTP/1.1 compliant, secure from remote attacks, able to stop
response splitting, and able to employ gzip content-encoding. Build fixes
were made for non-Linux platforms.

Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry

About: XDrawChem is a program for drawing chemical structures. Features
include fixed length and fixed angle drawing, a ring tool to automatically
draw rings, automatic alignment of structures in reactions, and structure
diagram generation. It can access structures in the NCI database by name,
CAS number, or formula. It can predict 1H NMR, 13C NMR, simple IR spectra,
and estimated pKa. XDrawChem can work with its native file format, ChemDraw
files, and any format supported by OpenBabel (MDL Molfile, CML, etc.).

Changes: Significant fixes have been made to arrow drawing, text drawing,
and the custom structure menu. More settings are saved between sessions,
and a new German translation is included.

[090] - XML Encoded Source alpha08
  by martin (http://freshmeat.net/users/martinbaker/)
  Mon, Jan 10th 2005 09:40

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: XML Encoded Source is a tool that encodes source code in XML form
to allow conversion to other languages, the generation of documentation
such as UML, and to provide an intermediate format for code generators
that allows code to be more quickly compiled on the fly. It also provides
language independence in code distribution and could provide a much
better way to mix scripting code in with XML data.

Changes: The program now parses input directly to internal an format
without using an intermediate tree structure.

[091] - XOM 1.0
  by Elliotte Rusty Harold (http://freshmeat.net/users/elharo/)
  Mon, Jan 10th 2005 14:15

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
Text Processing :: Markup :: XSL/XSLT

About: XOM is an XML object model. It is a tree-based API for processing
XML with Java that simultaneously supports streaming. In many use-cases,
it can process arbitrarily large documents with effectively constant
memory sizes. It strives for correctness, simplicity, and performance, in
that order. XOM supports XSLT, Canonical XML, and XInclude.

Changes: The README file was improved slightly, and all version numbers in
the JavaDoc have been upgraded to 1.0. Several small edits have been made
to the API documentation. The only API-level change is that the deprecated
setNodeFactory method in XSLTransform has been removed. This release is
stable and ready for production use.

[092] - YourKit Java Profiler 4.0-EAP3
  by YourKit Team (http://freshmeat.net/users/YourKitTeam/)
  Mon, Jan 10th 2005 06:27

Software Development

About: YourKit Java Profiler is a CPU and memory profiler that makes it
easy to solve wide range of CPU- and memory-related performance problems.
It features automatic leak detection, powerful tools for the analysis of
memory distribution, an object heap browser, comprehensive memory tests as
part of your JUnit testing process, extremely low profiling overhead,
transparent deobfuscation support, and integration with Eclipse, JBuilder,
IntelliJ IDEA, and JDeveloper IDEs.

Changes: A snapshot captured on a remote host can be automatically
transferred via the network to the local machine. Empty middle packages
are skipped in "Class Tree" view. To increase table readability, odd rows
in tables are highlighted with a different color. A font rendering problem
when profiler UI is launched with Java 5.0 was fixed. A limit on the memory
available to the profiler UI can be specified in YJP_HOME\win32\yjp.ini. An
installer was implemented for the Windows platform.
