[001] - Active Calendar 0.9.2
  by giorgos (http://freshmeat.net/users/georgiost/)
  Tue, Jan 11th 2005 07:07

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Office/Business :: Scheduling
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: Active Calendar is a PHP class that generates calendars (month or
year view) as HTML tables (XHTML-Valid). It can produce static calendars
without any links or calendars with navigation controls, a date picker
control, event days with event URLs, and linkable days (optionally URL or
Javascript). The layout can be configured using CSS, and JavaScript is not
required. The supported dates (on systems using a 32-bit signed integer
Unix time_t) are: 1902-2037 (Unix) and 1971-2037 (Windows), when using the
default PHP native date functions, and 100-3000 and later, when using the
ADOdb Date Library.

Changes: Two new public methods have been added. The setMonthNames()
method will generate different names for the calendar months, and the
setDayNames() method will generate names for the calendar week days that
are different than the ones set in the configuration.

Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: aterm (AfterStep term) is an xterm replacement, based on rxvt
v.2.4.8. It includes features such as NeXT style scrollbar, resource
efficient pseudo-transparency. It understands root background changes by
AfterStep Pager and Esetroot. The primary goal of aterm is to provide cool
visual features without resource consumption. It can be compiled to utilize
AfterStep's libasimage for wider image format support.

Changes: This release was updated to integrate nicely with AfterStep 2,
providing support for more image formats, semi-transparent gradients, and
more. Many bugs were fixed. The application is approaching maturity.
Everything that is not included in it yet, such as Unicode support,
XRender support, etc., cannot be put in without a significant code
rewrite, and will not be included in 1.0 release.

[003] - bandwidthd 2.0.1
  by Drachs (http://freshmeat.net/users/drachs/)
  Tue, Jan 11th 2005 19:55

System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: bandwidthd tracks usage of TCP/IP network subnets and builds HTML
files with graphs to display network utilization. Charts are built by
individual IP to show their utilization over 2 day, 8 day, 45 day, and 400
day periods. It color codes HTTP, HTTPS, TCP,UDP, ICMP, VPN, and P2P
traffic. Also, network utilization is now logged in CDF per IP address for
2.5 minute, 10 minute, 1 hour, and 12 hour periods. Unlike MRTG, it tracks
each individual IP address, not the status of any particular link. It is
easy to install, has low overhead, and has few dependencies.

Changes: This release added an optional PostgreSQL database logging mode
and a PHP application for dynamically creating graphs from databases.
Support for subnet filtering, multiple sensors, drill down, custom
intervals, and reports was provided. autoconf was implemented, allowing
the program to compile on all major platforms including Windows. Huge
performance gains were achieved in the graphing engine due to bugfixes and
interval tweaking. The need for Sys V IPC shared memeory was removed and
log rotation was implemented for all logs.

  Tue, Jan 11th 2005 03:58

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

About: epstool is a utility that can create and extract preview images in
EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) files, fix bounding boxes, and convert them
to bitmaps. It can add EPSI, DOS EPS, or Mac PICT previews, extract

Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry

About: GAMGI (General Atomistic Modelling Graphic Interface) is a program
to build, view, and analyze atomic strucures such as molecules, crystals,
glasses, liquids, etc. It aims to be useful for: the scientific community
working in Atomistic Modelling that needs a graphic interface to build
input data and to view and analyse output data, calculated with Ab-Initio
and Molecular Mechanics programs; the scientific community at large
studying chemistry, physics, materials science, geology, etc., that needs
a graphic interface to view and analyse atomic structural information and
to prepare images for presentations in classes and seminars; teaching
chemistry and physics in secondary schools and universities; science
promotion in schools, exhibitions and science museums.

Changes: A couple of serious bugs in space groups, reciprocal lattice, and
Voronoi tessellation were fixed. The Plane->Select, Plane->Remove,
Direction->Select, and Direction->Remove dialogs were implemented and are
working. The Plane->Create and Direction->Create dialogs are now more
functional, robust, and user-friendly.

About: JInto is a plugin for Eclipse that lets the developer easily edit
and maintain resource bundles (files that hold the localized strings for
an application). It features parallel editing of all language versions
(side by side), warnings when no text has been provided for a specific
key, or when the text for one key is identical for different languages,
and a search wizard to locate unused strings (strings that are referenced,
but not actually defined in the resource bundle). It has been tested under
Windows and Linux.

Changes: This release added support for displaying problems using JInto's
own problem type. A preferences dialog was added, minor repaint problems
under Windows were fixed, and the handling of keys containing empty values
was improved, making it possible to display the value from the default

[054] - PDL 2.4.2
  by Doug Burke (http://freshmeat.net/users/djburke/)
  Tue, Jan 11th 2005 08:29

Scientific/Engineering

About: The PerlDL project aims to turn Perl into an efficient numerical
language for scientific computing. The PDL module gives standard Perl the
ability to compactly store and speedily manipulate the large N-dimensional
data sets which are the bread and butter of scientific computing. e.g.
$a=$b+$c can add two 2048x2048 images in only a fraction of a second. The
aim is to provide tons of useful functionality for scientific and numeric
analysis.

Changes: This is mainly a bugfix release with a number of small
enhancements. FITS I/O now supports binary tables. Many improvements were
made to the PLplot interface. PDL::Transform was upgraded. A new "pdl"
command-line entry to the perldl shell allows #!-style scripting (so you
can re-use your journal files verbatim). Various improvements were made
for 64-bit systems. This release also deprecates the use of the 5.6
versions of perl. The use of the 5.8 series is recommended.

  Tue, Jan 11th 2005 13:50

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: RabbIt is the mutating, caching webproxy which is used to speed up
surfing over slow links like modems. It does this by removing advertising
and background images and scaling down images to low quality JPEGs. RabbIT
is written in Java and should be able to run on any platform. It does
depend upon an image converter if imagescaleing is on. The recommended
image converter is "convert" from the ImageMagick package.

Changes: Locale.US has been added to the SimpleDateFormat, since date
parsing fails for people using some other default locale otherwise. A
ReverseProxy filter has been added so that it is possible to use RabbIT as
a reverse proxy. It's possible to configure which DNS handler to use, since
dnsjava may fail on some setups. A workaround for handling broken Web
servers that send multiple last-chunks has been fixed.

Text Processing :: Linguistic

About: Redet (Regular Expression Development and Execution Tool) allows
the user to construct regular expressions and test them against input data
by executing any of a variety of search programs, editors, and programming
languages that make use of regular expressions. When a suitable regular
expression has been constructed it may be saved to a file. For each
program, a palette showing the available regular expression syntax is
provided. Selections from the palette may be copied to the regular
expression window with a mouse click. Definitions can be added to the
palette via an initialization file. As long as the underlying program
supports Unicode, UTF-8 Unicode is allowed in both test data and regular
expressions.

Changes: Euphoria and Pike are now supported. Tests were added for
additional Perl notation. The history button is now a toggle like the
palette button. If a new program is selected while the palette is popped
up, it is now automatically replaced by a palette for the new program. The
number of matches is now reported. It is now possible to suppress balloon
help from the init file. Feature testing has been made faster.

[075] - Supybot 0.80.0rc2
  by jamessan (http://freshmeat.net/users/jamessan/)
  Tue, Jan 11th 2005 07:35

Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat

About: Supybot is a clearly-written Python IRC framework and bot, intended
to be both easily extensible and very flexible. Several modules are
included by default. Numerous plugins are already written, including
Google, Factoids, RSS, Quotes, and Relay. Plugins and their commands
achieve greater utility via command nesting, something that no other IRC
bot does. The user database is based on "capabilities" rather than obscure
flags or arbitrary numeric "userlevels", giving the bot flexibility and
fine-grained control (think ACLs vs. standard *nix permissions).
Developing your own additions to the bot is simple with the base classes
provided; writing a new command for the bot is as simple as writing a
function. Unlike many other IRC frameworks, this simplicity is achieved at
no cost to generality, which lets new programmers and old programmers alike
feel at home in the framework.

Changes: The channelSpecific database functionality was reworked to let
specific channels determine whether other channels can use their database.
Infobot has been almost completely rewritten and now works quite well.
There were a number of important bugfixes, including a fix to
socketDrivers where certain situations would cause the bot to spin in a
reconnecting loop.

  Tue, Jan 11th 2005 07:05

System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
Utilities

About: System Configuration Collector (SCC) is yet another configuration
collector. It consists of a client and a server part. The client collects
configuration data in a structured snapshot, compares the new snapshot
with the previous one, and adds differences to a logbook. Then the
snapshot and the logbook are converted to HTML for local inspection.
Optionally, the data can be sent to a system running the server software.
On the server, summaries of the data are generated, and search/compare
operations on the snapshots and logbooks are available via a Web
interface.

Changes: Due to a (recent) change in the production of scc for Solaris
(and insufficient testing), the script /opt/scc/bin/scc was not part of
the scc package for Solaris. This error was also present when the Solaris
package was produced from the source tarball. All users of scc on Solaris
should upgrade to this release. The script /opt/scc/bin/scc used an
incorrect option to call scc-log when the -v option was used. If you do
not use the -v option there is no need to upgrade from 1.5.41 to 1.5.42.
