Multimedia :: Graphics
About: aiSee reads a textual, easy-to-read, and easy-to-learn graph
specification and automatically calculates a customizable graph layout.
This layout is then displayed, and can be printed or interactively
explored. aiSee features 15 basic graph layout algorithms (including
force-directed layout), recursive subgraph nesting, fish-eye views, and an
animation interface. It has been optimized to handle huge graphs
automatically generated by applications (e.g. compilers).
Changes: This release features full support for 16 new edge arrow styles,
and improved export of graphs to SVG and PostScript. Support for
semicolons and ampersands in SVG hyperlinks has been added. Several bugs
have been remedied.

[004] - Blueproxy 1.2
by Anil Madhavapeddy (http://freshmeat.net/users/stab/)
Fri, Jan 14th 2005 14:48
System :: Networking
About: Blueproxy is a simple proxy server to convert Bluetooth RFCOMM
connections into TCP connections. This frees Bluetooth application
programmers from having to worry about getting Bluetooth bindings for
their language of choice. Notable features include sending preambles to
allow a single TCP server to aggregrate multiple Bluetooth sensors, and a
scanning mode to continuously detect Bluetooth devices entering into
range of a sensor. It currently supports the Linux Bluez stack, FreeBSD
5, and has limited support for Mac OS X.
Changes: Autoconf support for easier building, and TCP_NODELAY has been
set to better handle small packet protocols (tested against the Nokia
Bluetooth stack).

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: Cgiapp.class.php is a port of CGI::Application to PHP. It utilizes
Smarty as its default templating engine, much as CGI::Application uses
HTML::Template, due to its prevalence and acceptance in the PHP community.
Due to PHP's built-in session support, it also adds two methods, s_param()
and s_delete(), to handle session parameters. A number of static methods
have also been included to facilitate error handling and array/hash
conversion.
Changes: When determining the run mode, the call to
get_defined_functions() has been moved within a conditional that first
determines if the mode param is a function name. This corrects a
performance hit introduced in 1.5.2.

Internet
System :: Networking
About: gwhois is a generic whois client (and server) which strives to know
the right server to query for each and every top level domain and IP
address. You can ask gwhois about a domainor IP address, and it will
automatically forward your query to the appropriate server. gwhois even
queries whois servers which can only be reached by a Web form, and outputs
the results as text. gwhois can be used as a client or can be installed as
a relaying server, so you can use your normal whois client to ask gwhois.
Changes: This release has gained knowledge for 68 new top level domains.
37 TLDs have been updated, and for the remaining 78 TLDs with no lookup
service, this release outputs at least the homepage of the registry (if

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Konstruct is a build system which helps you install KDE releases
and applications on your system. It downloads defined source tarballs,
checks their integrity, decompresses, patches, configures, builds, and
installs them. A complete KDE installation should be as easy as "cd
meta/kde;make install". Optionally, you can install additional
applications like KOffice, KDevelop, or Quanta (for example, "cd
apps/koffice;make install").
Changes: The "unstable" version now installs KDE 3.4 Beta 1. All included
packages were updated to their latest versions.

[030] - LFT 2.3
by oppleman (http://freshmeat.net/users/oppleman/)
Fri, Jan 14th 2005 01:23
System :: Networking
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
About: LFT is an alternative traceroute program for displaying the route
packets take to an IP network host/socket. Unlike Van Jacobson's
traceroute, which is available on almost every platform today, LFT uses
TCP in order to elicit ICMP TIME_EXCEEDEDs or other IP route data. As a
result, LFT often executes much faster and sees behind some configurations
of firewalls. Its stateful engine lets the user know when it encounters a
stateful firewall or other interesting conditions. It also does AS number
and netblock name lookups en route. Most importantly, LFT can trace
specific TCP-based protocol routes (not just IP) to assist network
engineers with manual fault isolation of network application problems.
Changes: Various code cleanups were made. Improvements were made to
verbose output, the Windows interface device selection support, and speed.

server (password, maxusers, and servername). You can add users to the
server. getglobalinfo() is a new function for information about the main
server. If a server was already stopped it wasn't deleted; this has been
fixed. Non-visible characters are trimmed in some functions. str_replace
is used instead of preg_replace. PHP was trying to allocate a huge amount
of memory with preg_replace with some large lists. Several typos in the
documentation have been fixed.

[069] - Traffic Control Super Script 3.0-dev
by Kegan Holtzhausen (http://freshmeat.net/users/marzubus/)
Fri, Jan 14th 2005 07:14
System :: Networking
About: Traffic Control Super Script is used for traffic shaping of
Internet (IP) traffic passing through a NAT/bridge box with only one
hosts-config file with one line per host configs. TCSS can manage
bandwidth to user-specified speeds based on the u32 classifier. TCSS uses
the iproute2-u32 classifier to identify traffic by source, dest,
sourceport, destport, proto, and tos. It then limits the rate of
connection in either a single or a bidirectional fashion.
Changes: This release changes from cbq to htb, adds ceiling burst rates in
above minimum rates, adds grouping support to create shared, weighted
ratios, removes u32 support and moves to tables support for now, changes
iptables to bind to specific interfaces for marking, and adds logging
support in /var/log/messages of shaped/unshaped packets.

compatible in a number of ways, Visopsys is not a clone of any other
operating system. You can demo the distribution from a "live" CD or floppy
disk.
Changes: This release included bugfixes and some additional features such
as improved disk-to-disk copies and partition table reordering in the Disk
Manager, and additional C library functions.

Unix geek who wants something minimalistic. It can keep track of things you
need to do on particular dates. It's a very short and simple program, so
you can easily tinker with it yourself. It doesn't depend on any
libraries, so it's easy to install. You should be able to install it on
any system where Perl is available, even if you don't have privileges for
installing libraries. Its file format is a simple text file, which you can
edit in your favorite editor.
Changes: The program attempts to use the $TERM environment variable to
determine whether the terminal can display accented characters.

[075] - XRoar 0.11
by Ciaran Anscomb (http://freshmeat.net/users/six809/)
Fri, Jan 14th 2005 13:55
System :: Emulators
About: XRoar is an emulator for the Dragon 32, Dragon 64, and Tandy Coco2
computers all originally released in the early '80s. The emulator runs
under Unix-like OSes (using SDL for video and OSS for audio) and the GP32
handheld gaming device.
Changes: New modularisation means multiple video, audio, and UI modules
can be compiled in and selected. A resizable SDL-YUV Xv-accelerated
module. A JACK sound module. A /dev/rtc based NULL sound module (Linux
only). Basic NTSC artifacting simulation. Translated keyboard mode.
Support for Dragon 64 in 64K BASIC mode. Win32 support (well, a file
selector; the Win32 version runs, but SDL sound seems very choppy).

[076] - Zend Optimizer 2.5.7
by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
Fri, Jan 14th 2005 11:08
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: The Zend Optimizer uses multi-pass code optimizations to double the

optimization of the code created by the run-time compiler, before the code
is executed. PHP code is typically executed 40-100% faster.
Changes: Supports PHP 5 and later. Fixes various bugs. A bug in the
previous version that broke PHP 4.3.10 has been fixed. Support for PHP
versions below 4.0.4 has been dropped in this version.
