[015] - Daemonize 0.1.1
  by Travis Whitton (http://freshmeat.net/users/whitton/)
  Fri, Feb 4th 2005 12:49

Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules

About: Daemonize is a Ruby module derived from Perl's Proc:: Daemon
module. It allows you to easily modify any existing Ruby program to run as

looking up the procedure, and it will also ensure that your programs are
daemonized in the safest and most correct fashion possible.

Changes: This release improves the mechanism where file descriptors are
closed and provides better randomization between daemonized and spawning
processes. Small readability enhancements have also been made.

[039] - Kodo JDO 3.2.4 (Production)
  by Chox (http://freshmeat.net/users/neelan/)
  Fri, Feb 4th 2005 21:59

Database :: API

About: Kodo JDO allows you to write database calls using Java statements
instead of SQL statements, by supporting the Java Data Objects standard
for transparent persistence. It is the most complete implementation of the
JDO specification for relational data stores, and comes with tools for
producing a schema from an object model, producing class files from an
existing schema, and a performance pack (distributed caching and statement
batching) that improves performance by 15 - 30 times. It supports most
relational databases, application servers, and IDEs, and reduces the total
coding effort by 20-40%.

Changes: A couple bugs related to query caching were fixed. More support
for generics was added. A MaximizeBatchSize configuration option was added
to the default kodo.jdbc.UpdateManager property. It defaults to true,
indicating that Kodo should sort statements in order to optimize batch
size when statement batching is on.

identity without writing object ID classes when using a single primary key
field. A lifecycle event listening framework was added as a JDO 2 preview
feature. A convenience method was added for retrieving instances based on

cycle, expands the command WD to use an additional parameter with the WD.#
syntax, implements the command DEX that assigns expressions to the data

one-source multiple-target strategy for the content. It offers students
portfolio space in which they can stage materials for submission to
projects, and provides a number of tools for synchronous and asynchronous
student-student and student-faculty communication. LON-CAPA scales well
with number of students, as load-balancing is possible across the whole
network of servers at participating institutions.

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
System :: Networking

About: MIB Smithy is an application for SNMP and COPS developers, MIB and
PIB designers, and Internet-draft authors. It provides a GUI-based
environment for designing, editing, and compiling MIB and PIB modules
according to the SMIv1, SMIv2, and COPS-PR-SPPI standards. It accelerates
the development process by providing an easy-to-use GUI-based environment
for developing the specifications without the syntax and formatting
concerns of editing the modules by hand. It includes a number of built-in
basic SNMP management tools, XML support, and (with MIB Smithy
Professional) support for custom compiler output formats.

Changes: The GUI has been greatly improved with selectable themes, a much
more platform-specific look and feel (particularly under MacOS X Aqua),
and new usability features such as inline auto-completion for comboboxes,
icons in tabs, and a clickable workspace "Location" bar for jumping to
parent records and conserving tab real estate. GUI code optimizations have

from TeX source files and enhance the result of TeX typesetting with the
help of PDF. When PDF output is not selected, pdfTeX produces normal DVI
output, otherwise it produces PDF output that looks identical to the DVI
output. An important aspect of this project is to investigate alternative
justification algorithms, optionally making use of multiple master fonts.

Changes: This releases fixes some bugs (mostly with TrueType fonts) and
updates ttf2afm and pdfxtex.

CpG island detection algorithms, the ability to add cloning sequences to
primers, automatically adjusted to be in-frame, and QPCR primer design
without manual intron-exon boundary entry.

Changes: This release fixed a crash that occurred when [dNTPs] > [Mg++],
correctly lists the oligo concentration in the preferences as being in nM,
and includes a tutorial in the distribution.

  Fri, Feb 4th 2005 15:24

Multimedia :: Video
Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Multimedia :: Video :: Display

About: ZoneMinder is a suite of applications intended for use in video
camera security applications, including theft prevention and child or
family member monitoring. It supports capture, analysis, recording, and
monitoring of video data coming from one or more video or network cameras
attached to a Linux system. It also features a user-friendly Web interface
which allows viewing, archival, review, and deletion of images and movies
captured by the cameras. The image analysis system is highly configurable,
permitting retention of specific events, while eliminating false positives.
ZoneMinder supports both directly connected and network cameras and is
built around the definition of a set of individual 'zones' of varying
sensitivity and functionality for each camera. This allows the elimination
of regions which should be ignored or the definition of areas which will
alarm if various thresholds are exceeded in conjunction with other zones.
All management, control, and other functions are supported through the Web
interface.

Changes: This release focuses on correcting problems found with some of
the major features introduced in 1.20.0. If you are running 1.20.0, you
are strongly encouraged to upgrade. A couple of minor features are also
included.
