Screenshots have always been invaluable tools for graphical user
interfaces. They let programmers flaunt their wares to prospective users;
even with console tools, I usually zoom right in on a screenshot link to
get my first impression of a program. They let the desktop-inclined show
off their backgrounds and theme authors show why you must have their work.
And when things go wrong, a screenshot can often save a thousand words of
bug reporting. vnc2swf puts all these benefits in motion.

[007] - darcs 1.0.2
by David Roundy (http://freshmeat.net/users/droundy/)
Sat, Feb 5th 2005 13:07
Software Development :: Version Control
About: Darcs is an advanced revision control system along the lines of CVS
or arch. It has two particularly distinctive features which differ from
other revision control systems: each copy of the source is a fully
functional branch, and underlying it is a consistent and powerful theory
of patches. In spite of its power, darcs is simple to use, in part because
of the symmetry that is restored by making each copy of the repository a
branch.
Changes: There were no changes made since the last release candidate
(1.0.2rc4). Several moderately serious bugs were fixed that were present
in darcs 1.0.1. In addition, a few minor documentation and error message
improvements were made, and an option was added to set the executable bit
properly for scripts.

About: Darwin pkg_tools is a fast and simple way to manage darwinports.
It can check what installed ports are obsolete and upgrade them in one
easy process. It also gives you the ability to backup your compiled ports
as binary tarballs which can be reinstalled at any time if something goes
wrong.
Changes: In this release, the version checking code is 500% percent
faster, pkg_upgrade can update all ports at once, and there are some
cosmetic fixes.

[009] - delete_put_httpd.py 1.0
by Viraj Alankar (http://freshmeat.net/users/valankos/)
Sat, Feb 5th 2005 15:05
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: delete_put_httpd.py implements an HTTP proxy meant to be used with
Communigate Pro's WebCal server and Mozilla Sunbird/Calendar setup to post
a shared calendar. Normally, calendar entries deleted in Mozilla do not get
deleted from Communigate. This is due to Communigate assuming that an HTTP
PUT request means to append to calendar entries, while Mozilla assumes it
means to replace the whole calendar. What needs to be done is an HTTP
DELETE before the HTTP PUT. This proxy implements such a method. Mozilla
should be pointed to post calendars to this proxy instead of Communigate.

[010] - Enblend 2.2
by Andrew Mihal (http://freshmeat.net/users/mihal/)
Sat, Feb 5th 2005 17:58
Multimedia :: Graphics
About: Enblend is a postprocessing tool for creating panoramic images.
After you align image features using a program like Hugin, there are often
photometric problems that lead to ugly seams in the final composite.
Enblend blends away these seams using a multiresolution spline. This
technique gives good results on both low spatial frequency objects (sky
and clouds) and high spatial frequency objects (trees and houses).
Changes: This release fixes some minor issues with the Windows build.
Enblend should now run on pre-Win2K systems. The pre-built binary now
includes support for additional TIFF compression methods such as Deflate
and Packbits. If you are using Enblend on Unix, you do not need to
upgrade.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
About: eyeD3 is a Python program and module that provides the ability to
read and write ID3 tags (v1.x and v2.3/v2.4). It also decodes MP3 headers
(bit rate, sample frequency, play time, etc.).
Changes: This release features native support for play count (PCNT), and
unique file id (UFID) frames. There is more relaxed genre processing. A
sync-safe bug was fixed for when the tag header requests sync-safety and
not the frames themselves. Configure should now successfully detect
Python release candidates and betas.

Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: ezXML is a C library for parsing XML documents inspired by
simpleXML for PHP. As the name implies, it's easy to use. It's ideal for
parsing XML configuration files or REST Web service responses. It's also
fast and lightweight (11k compiled).
Changes: This release fixes a compiler warning about lvalue type casting.
The ezxml_get() argument list can now be terminated by an empty string tag
name. A NOMMAP make option was added for systems without POSIX memory
mapping. Support for UTF-16 was added. A bug in ezxml_toxml() where UTF-8
sequences were being ampersand encoded has been fixed. The ezxml_new(),
ezxml_add_child(), ezxml_set_txt(), ezxml_set_attr(), and ezxml_remove()
functions were added to facilitate creating and modifying XML.

[015] - gcx 0.8.6
by Radu Corlan (http://freshmeat.net/users/rcorlan/)
Sat, Feb 5th 2005 06:52
Scientific/Engineering :: Astronomy
About: GCX provides a complete set of data-reduction functions for CCD
photometry, with frame WCS fitting, automatic target identification,
aperture photometry of target and standard stars, single-frame ensemble
photometry data reduction, multi-frame color coefficient fitting,
extinction coefficient fitting, and all-sky photometry. It also controls

[018] - getmail 4.3.2 (Stable)
by Charles Cazabon (http://freshmeat.net/users/twoflower/)
Sat, Feb 5th 2005 14:56
Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: getmail is intended as a simple, secure, and reliable replacement
for fetchmail. It retrieves email (either all messages, or only unread
messages) from one or more POP3, SPDS, or IMAP4 servers (with or without
SSL) for one or more email accounts, and reliably delivers into
qmail-style Maildirs, mboxrd files, or through external MDAs (command
deliveries) specified on a per-account basis. getmail also has excellent
support for domain (multidrop) mailboxes, including delivering messages to
different users or destinations based on the envelope recipient address.
Changes: Previously, if an SSL POP3 or IMAP server abruptly closed the
connection before getmail could finish logging in, getmail would exit
instead of proceeding to the next configured mail account. This was fixed.
Duplicate Return-Path: header fields were eliminated.

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
About: Graphics3D is a free, Open Source C++ library for game developers,
researchers, and students. It is a base of robust and high performance
code common to most 3D projects. It is not a standalone graphics or game
engine--it is the set of pieces you need to jumpstart your own engine or
graphics project. The library has two parts: G3D for pure math, and GLG3D
for interacting with hardware acceleration via OpenGL. You can use G3D
without GLG3D if you want to use another 3D API (like DirectX) or don't
like the OpenGL abstraction.
Changes: This release has support for g++ through 3.4.x, 2D and video
rendering, 3DS loader, wxWidgets, a Win32 installer, large performance
increases for networking, and workarounds for bugs in older graphics card
drivers. There are precompiled binaries for OS X, Linux, MSVC 6, and MSVC

About: HTTrack is an easy-to-use offline browser utility. It allows you to
download a Web site from the Internet to a local directory, building
recursively all directories, getting HTML, images, and other files from
the server to your computer. HTTrack arranges the original site's relative
link-structure. Simply open a page of the mirrored Web site in your
browser, and you can browse the site from link to link, as if you were
viewing it online. HTTrack can also update an existing mirrored site, and
resume interrupted downloads. WebHTTrack is a Web-based GUI for HTTrack.
Changes: This release fixed many problems, including bogus redirects in
HTTPS, delimiter problems in query strings, broken ISO9660, a crash with
long URL lists, a crash with file:// links, unescaped ampersands in URLs,
hangs due to a bogus bandwidth limiter, case sensitivity bugs, FTBFS on
AMD64 architectures because of cast problems, and bogus links encoded with
UTF. It also introduced enhancements, including a floating number of
connections per second, a more reliable bandwidth limiter, stronger

Utilities
About: DIRT is a simple directory stack utility that lets the user use the
same directory stack across terminals and sessions. The stack of
directories is stored in a file (.dirtpile) in your home directory. All
shell sessions access the same file, and thus, all of them use the same
stack. DIRT supports jumping to specific entries, push, pop, swap the CWD
with the top of the stack, and jump to the top of the stack. A set of CSH
shell aliases are also included, and required for proper functioning.
Changes: The ability to change directory stacks via the "list" control was
added.

[058] - the breve simulation environment 2.1
by jklein (http://freshmeat.net/users/jklein/)
Sat, Feb 5th 2005 12:11
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
About: breve is a 3D simulation environment designed for the simulation of
decentralized systems and artificial life. While the concept is similar to
existing packages such as Swarm and StarLogo, the implementation, which
simulates both continuous time and continuous 3D space, is quite
different. It also includes an experimental physics engine, allowing the
user to implement real-time physical simulations. Simulations are written
in a simple object-oriented language called "steve". Users define an
agent's behavior by specifying how the agent interacts with the world at
each timestep and how the agent interacts when it collides with other
agents. The ultimate goal of the system is to allow decentralized
simulations to be implemented quickly and easily while providing a
sophisticated set of object classes and libraries to facilitate the
construction of advanced artificial life simulations.
Changes: This version adds new classes for custom drawing, hardware
accelerated matrix manipulation, faster physical simulation, improved
string manipulation capabilities, speed and stability improvements, and
much more.
