[001] - adesklets 0.2.0
  by S.Fourmanoit (http://freshmeat.net/users/syfou2/)
  Sun, Feb 6th 2005 05:40

Desktop Environment :: Tools
Multimedia :: Graphics

About: adesklets is an interactive Imlib2 console for the X Window system.
 It provides to scripted languages a clean and simple way to write great
looking, mildly interactive desktop integrated graphic applets (aka
"desklets"). It can also be used as a command line oriented graphics
editor, a bit similar to ImageMagick, but with different functionality.

Changes: Support was added for textual variables and execution of timed
preregistered sequences of commands to the interpreter. This gives
desklets a way to perform fluid animations. The test/fading.py script from
the source package demonstrates those features in action. For developers,
this version also includes a rewritten dynamically configurable debug
interface to the interpreter, which is able to generate complete logs of
any session.

Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX

About: AmyEdit is a LaTeX editor. It currently features tabbed editing,
word-count, spell check, syntax highlighting, undo/redo, built in
integration with the LaTeX command and viewer of your choice, and
customisable document templates.

Changes: SpellCheck was fixed and now uses aspell_document_checker. The UI
manager is now used for toolbars. Tooltips were added, an export option was
added to the menu, and more of gtksourceviewmm was written.

  by Talrias (http://freshmeat.net/users/Talrias/)
  Sun, Feb 6th 2005 12:40

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Message Boards

About: aterr is a threaded forum system, allowing registered visitors to
express their opinions, discuss topics, and debate with other visitors. A
threaded forum system differs from regular, flat forum systems in that
once posted, a thread can fork, allowing visitors to reply directly to
other posts. aterr also provides a customisable permissions system, the
ability to nest forums, and moderation tools.

Changes: The addition of a bookmark system, allowing threads to be copied
to a special forum which shows all updates to topics the user is
interested in. Forcing a preview is now an admin-configurable option.
Expansion of the user permissions system. Changes to the registration
email so it is less likely to be detected as junk mail. Automatic
detection for enabling human-friendly URLs. A large number of
optimisations to make displaying topics a great deal faster, with less
work for the backend to do.

About: AudienceConnect connects any digital property's audience to its
author's PayPal account. THR33 is the underlying technology, generating
Web sites dynamically or statically. THR33's modules establish different
kinds of revenue streams for your digital properties. The original
"AudienceConnect" package will remain available until superceded by these
modules. The other "independent" modules will work on any Web site that
has Python 1.5.2 available for CGI.

Changes: THR33 now generates both dynamic and static sites.

[005] - AutoGen 5.6.6
  by Bruce Korb (http://freshmeat.net/users/bkorb/)
  Sun, Feb 6th 2005 17:13

Other/Nonlisted Topic
Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: AutoGen is a tool designed for generating program files that
contain repetitive text with varied substitutions. Its goal is to simplify
the maintenance of programs that contain large amounts of repetitious text.
This is especially valuable if there are several blocks of such text that
must be kept synchronized. Output is specified with a Scheme-enhanced
output template. Input, if required by your template, may come from
AutoGen definitions, CGI data, or XML files.

Changes: AutoGen macros were added for inserting definition file line
numbers into the output files: (def-file-line "value-name"). AutoGen will
no longer try to catch real time signals.

  Sun, Feb 6th 2005 23:38

Software Development :: Build Tools

About: Bakefile is cross-platform, cross-compiler generator of native
makefiles. It takes a compiler-independent description of build tasks as
input and generates a native makefile. Its supported output formats
include autoconf's Makefile.in, Visual C++ projects, and bcc makefiles.

Changes: This release implemented a workaround for an aclocal bug that
caused a failure every time a bakefile.m4 file was found.

  Sun, Feb 6th 2005 23:32

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Security
Utilities

About: Clam AntiVirus is an anti-virus toolkit for Unix. The main purpose
of this software is the integration with mail servers (attachment
scanning). The package provides a flexible and scalable multi-threaded
daemon, a commandline scanner, and a tool for automatic updating via
Internet. The programs are based on a shared library distributed with the
Clam AntiVirus package, which you can use in your own software.

Changes: This release adds generic detection of MS05-002 ("Vulnerability
in Cursor and Icon Format Handling Could Allow Remote Code
Execution")-based exploits. The fixes include correct attachment scanning
in e-mails generated by some Internet worms, a removal of the false
positive "Suspected.Zip" warning on non-standard zip archives created by
ICEOWS, better proxy support in freshclam, and speed improvements.

  Sun, Feb 6th 2005 23:49

Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Speech

About: The Cornfed SIP User Agent is a Session Initiation Protocol
(SIP)-based Softphone for your x86 Linux systems. It allows you to make
Internet phone calls using an Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) or
 Open Sound System (OSS) sound card with speakers and microphone as your
telephone handset.

Changes: This client now automatically removes an active registration on
exit. A setting was added to the CLI client to allow a single registration
with no subsequent re-registrations. The CLI client now has the ability to
set the registration interval and buffer before re-registrations are sent.
A -noconfig option was added to allow bypassing of the config file. A bug
with error reporting on sound card initialization was fixed.

[012] - Documancer 0.2.4
  by Vaclav Slavik (http://freshmeat.net/users/vslavik/)
  Sun, Feb 6th 2005 07:28

Software Development :: Documentation

About: Documancer is a programmer's documentation reader for Unix which
has very fast fulltext searching. It has several advantages over using a
Web browser or specialized format-specific viewers (such as info), namely
unified access to all documentation formats and a GUI that is
better-suited for documentation reading than a generic Web browser. It can
display HTML manuals and both info and man pages.

Changes: Fulltext search is now implemented with Lucene and supports
Unicode.

Information Management :: Document Repositories
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Wiki
Software Development :: Documentation

About: DokuWiki is a standards-compliant, simple-to-use Wiki mainly aimed
at creating documentation of any kind. It is targeted at developer teams,
workgroups, and small companies. It has a simple but powerful syntax which
makes sure the datafiles remain readable outside the Wiki, and eases the
creation of structured texts. All data is stored in plain text files, so
no database is needed

Changes: This release changes the file encoding to UTF-8. Upgraders need
to read http://wiki.splitbrain.org/wiki:utf8update. Many smaller bugs were
fixed. Text alignment in tables was added, and the last editor information
and summaries are now available for old revisions, too.

[014] - DragStacK 1.4
  by Dominik Seichter (http://freshmeat.net/users/domseichter/)
  Sun, Feb 6th 2005 23:43

Desktop Environment :: File Managers
Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)

About: DragStacK is a kicker applet, a stack of files. It was inspired by
the drop stack of the PathFinder file manager for OS X. Users can drop as
many files on it as they want. To get the files out of the stack they
just need to be dragged out. The last file that was dropped on the stack
is the first file that can be dragged out of it. It does not keep the
files themselves in the stack, only their paths. It can also handle
stacking URLs and directories.

Changes: This release works with newer KDE versions and fixed many bugs.

[015] - DRBL 1.3.6-11 (Stable)
  by Steven (http://freshmeat.net/users/stevenshiau/)
  Sun, Feb 6th 2005 17:10

About: Diskless Remote Boot in Linux (DRBL) provides a diskless or
systemless environment for client machines. It works on Debian, Mandrake,
Red Hat, and Fedora. Unlike LTSP, it uses distributed hardware resources
and makes it possible for clients to fully access local hardware. It also
includes Clonezilla, a partitioning and disk cloning utility similar to
Symantec Ghost.

Changes: This version officially supports Fedora Core 3. A function to
check the input MAC file is added.

[016] - dvipng 1.5
  by Jan-Åke Larsson (http://freshmeat.net/users/jalar/)
  Sun, Feb 6th 2005 06:09

Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX

About: dvipng makes PNG or GIF graphics from DVI files obtained from TeX
and its relatives. Its benefits include speed; it uses very fast
bitmap-rendering code for DVI files. On a fairly low-end laptop, it takes
less than a second to generate 270 one-formula images. Furthermore, it
does not read the postamble, so it can be started before TeX finishes. It
supports PK, VF, PostScript Type1 (via FreeType or t1lib), and TrueType
fonts (via FreeType), color specials, and more.

Changes: This release fixes a bug in --picky mode and makes it possible to
use dvips' named colors with the -bg and -fg command line switches.

[024] - GNU polyxmass 0.8.6
  by filippo rusconi (http://freshmeat.net/users/FilippoRusconi/)
  Sun, Feb 6th 2005 03:14

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry

About: GNU polyxmass features an integrated mass spectrometry framework
where users are able to define brand new polymer chemistries (within the
polyxdef module), and use these definitions in order to make simple mass
calculations (within the polyxcalc module) or perform complex simulations
of polymer chemistry with related mass data computations (within the
polyxedit module). The framework allows full customization of every aspect
of the polymer chemistry being defined, and of the way the polymer
sequences are graphically displayed. This program was formerly called
"polyXmass".

Changes: This release sets the stage for XML file versioning (both for
polymer chemistry definition files and polymer sequence files). It adds a
new console window where all messages from the program are displayed with
a nice color code representing the gravity of the messages. It very much

Documentation
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Shells

About: The Heirloom Toolchest is a collection of standard Unix utilities.
It was derived from original Unix material released as open source by
Caldera and contains multiple versions of each utility corresponding to
SVID3/SVR4, SVID4/SVR4.2MP, POSIX.2-1992/SUSV2, POSIX.1-2001/SUSV3, and
4BSD (SVR4 /usr/ucb). It processes lines of arbitrary length and in many
cases binary input data, supports characters in UTF-8 and many East Asian
encodings, and contains more than 100 individual utilities including bc,
cpio, diff, ed, file, find, grep, man, nawk, oawk, pax, ps, sed, sort,
spell, and tar. Extensive documentation is included.

Changes: Support for POSIX.1-2001 has been introduced; since it is
partially incompatible with the existing implementation, another set of
utilities has been added for it. Many bugs and conformance issues have

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3

About: iList is an intelligent playlist for the KDE media player Noatun.
It is intelligent in the sense that songs are selected from a (possibly
large) repository of audio files in a smart manner. Think of it as your
personal radio station that plays your favourite songs all day long. iList
supports implicit song ranking, incremental search, a song history,
independent queueing, multiple collections, and fast access to large
repositories with auto detection of new files.

Changes: Minor bugs have been fixed, and a lot of improvements to the user
interface like a configuration wizard, context sensitive help, and
integrated CD burning of playlists have been made. A new mode called
"Adaptive Learning" has been added that associates actions like skip or
double-click with configurable priority changes. The settings have been
enhanced and restructured for easier customizability.

  Sun, Feb 6th 2005 23:51

Internet
System
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: Keepalived for LVS aims to add a strong and robust keepalive
facility to the Linux Virtual Server project. This project is written in C
with multilayer TCP/IP stack checks. It implements a framework based on
three family checks: Layer3, Layer4, and Layer5. This framework gives the
daemon the ability of checking a LVS server pool states.When one of the
servers in the LVS server pool is down, keepalived informs the Linux
kernel via a setsockopt call to remove this server entry from the LVS
topology. In addition, it implements a VRRPv2 stack to handle director
failover.

Changes: Issues in the VRRP framework with releasing the VRRP socket pool,
setting blocking flags on netlink sockets, and hashing the VRRP FD bucket
into a hash index were fixed. A regression in HTML parsing was fixed along
with a compilation issue while using debug compilation. VRRP and
Healthcheck framework extensions were made support debugging flags. The
watchdog framework was removed to use native scheduling signaling helpers.

  by Rui Nuno Capela (http://freshmeat.net/users/rncbc/)
  Sun, Feb 6th 2005 13:29

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: Qjackctl is a simple Qt application to control the JACK sound
server daemon, specifically for the Linux Audio Desktop infrastructure. It
is written in C++ around the Qt3 toolkit for X11, most exclusively using Qt
Designer. It provides a simple GUI dialog for setting several JACK daemon
parameters, which are properly saved between sessions, and a way to
control of the status of the audio server daemon. With time, this
primordial interface has become richer by including an enhanced patchbay
and connection control features.

Changes: JACK/ALSA client and port name renaming (aliasing) is now an
optional feature for the connections window. Tooltips are now also
featured on connections, status, and patch bay windows. A new actual
hardware device selection menu is featured in the setup dialog. A rare
connection port item removal/disconnection dangling pointer bug has been
fixed.

About: Quod Libet is an audio player that lets you use all features
available in the ID3 and Ogg Vorbis tagging standards. It supports
arbitrary tag names and multiple values per tag, and is aware of the more
obscure tags such as 'version', 'conductor', or 'discnumber'. Playlists
are constructed by searching your audio library's tags, either by a text
search or a simple regular expression-based query syntax. It also supports
editing tags, including editing many files at once even if they are
different audio formats.

Changes: This release fixes two crashes on startup that affect users
running Python 2.4 or in the "C" locale, respectively. If you are already
using 0.8, there is no reason to upgrade.

[062] - Raptor RDF Parser Toolkit 1.4.5
  by Dave Beckett (http://freshmeat.net/users/dajobe/)
  Sun, Feb 6th 2005 07:49

Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: Raptor is a C library providing a set of parsers and serializers
for Resource Description Framework (RDF) triples by parsing syntaxes into
RDF triples and serializing triples into a syntax. The parsers support
RDF/XML, N-Triples, Turtle, XML RSS, and Atom 0.3 via RSS tag soup. The
serializers support RDF/XML, N-Triples, and RSS 1.0. Raptor handles
RDF/XML as used by RDF applications such as RSS 1.0, FOAF, DOAP, Dublin
Core, and OWL. It can use either expat or libxml2 for XML parsing, libcurl
when available for URI retrieval, and is portable to many POSIX systems.

Changes: A new "RDF/XML with abbreviations" serializer was added. Support
for RSS 1.1 was added to the RSS tag soup parser. More fixes were made to
work around the broken OSX libxml2.

[063] - Rasqal RDF Query Library 0.9.6
  by Dave Beckett (http://freshmeat.net/users/dajobe/)
  Sun, Feb 6th 2005 07:52

Database :: Database Engines/Servers

About: Rasqal is a C library for querying RDF, supporting the RDQL and
SPARQL languages. It provides APIs for creating a query and parsing query
syntax. It features pluggable triple-store source and matching interfaces,
an engine for executing the queries and an API for manipulating results as
bindings. It uses the Raptor RDF parser to return triples from RDF content
and can alternatively work with the Redland RDF library's persistent triple
stores. It is portable across many POSIX systems.

Changes: Query results as graphs and booleans were added to the query
engine. Support for SPARQL CONSTRUCT, ASK, and 7 built-in functions were
added. The Unicode support in queries was enhanced to allow it in prefixes
and QNames. Several other fixes and changes were made.

[085] - xterm patch #200
  by T.E.Dickey (http://freshmeat.net/users/tedickey/)
  Sun, Feb 6th 2005 17:15

Desktop Environment
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: The xterm program is the standard terminal emulator for the X
Window System. It provides DEC VT102/VT220 and Tektronix 4014 compatible
terminals for programs that can't use the window system directly. If the
underlying operating system supports terminal resizing capabilities (for
example, the SIGWINCH signal in systems derived from 4.3bsd), xterm will
use the facilities to notify programs running in the window whenever it is
resized.

Changes: The configure script has been improved to allow building on most
platforms without imake. Some minor feature enhancements, e.g. new
resource settings and configure options. Many small bugfixes.

[086] - zsync 0.2.0
  by Colin Phipps (http://freshmeat.net/users/cph/)
  Sun, Feb 6th 2005 13:27

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: zsync is a client-side implementation of the rsync algorithm. It
allows updating of files from a remote Web server without requiring a
full download or a special remote server application. It uses a metafile,
which must be created on the server, to determine which parts of a file
the user already has; it then downloads the remaining parts via HTTP. No
special server or Web server module is needed. It can also look inside
gzip files, allowing efficient update transfers even when files are
compressed.

Changes: Optimisations to the algorithm used have allowed the size of the
control file to be greatly reduced.
