Information Management
About: Amedes is a member file management system based on the Expression
Web application framework. It aims to help with day-to-day tasks and
communication within organizations. Its basic purpose is to manage cards
containing information about members, including each name, address, phone
number, and fees paid. Member information is accessed by each person in
charge according to his own role in the organization, allowing you to
distribute responsibilities among the organization.
Changes: Many minor user interface improvements that should make the
program easier to use were made. Some code was moved out of the program so
that its access management system can be used by other Expression-based
applications. A start was made on proper accounting.

[003] - Aqua Data Studio 4.0
by JohnLH (http://freshmeat.net/users/JohnLH/)
Tue, Feb 8th 2005 05:15
Software Development
About: Aqua Data Studio is an SQL editor and developer tool that allows
database structures to be browsed, and SQL scripts to be easily created,
edited, and executed. It provides an integrated database environment with
a single consistent interface to all major relational databases, allowing
DBAs and developers to tackle multiple tasks simultaneously. The
sophisticated Query Analyzer features RDBMS-specific syntax highlighting
and auto-completion, detailed client statistical information, and
multi-grid results. Table structure and dependencies in the database
schema can be viewed, and queries can be saved in many formats, including
HTML and XML.
Changes: Security options, such as users, roles, profiles, and object
permissions, may now be edited visually. The query analyzer may now be
customized in areas such as auto-completion, syntax coloring, tabs, and
results. The query analyzer may now display results in a multi-tabbed
view. An export tool was added. Variable binding support was added. MS SQL
Server Windows authentication is now supported. Database support includes
PostgreSQL 8.0, MySQL 4.1, DB2 8.2, and MS SQL Server 2005.

Database :: Front-Ends
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Atris Framework is a fully functional platform independent GUI
framework based on the Java/Swing API. It provides an advanced GUI screen
editor with features including an abstract data layer, pre-built Design
Patterns, data set to visual component mappings, window management
(tiling, last position/size memory), database/app server login control,
preference management, advanced table and tree management, advanced data
relationship management, automated management of standard CRUD operations,
launching GUI applications from Web sites directly, table sorting, column
ordering, table searching, in-table editing, and the ability to import
existing visual components in addition to many other features.
Changes: Full Report support has been added. Reports can be added to
applications quickly, providing a more mature application to the end user.
Initial Internationalization support has been added. This step forward
gives the option of using different languages by making use of text
'tags'. The free Cloudscape database (which does not require the
installation of server software) has been added. You can distribute the
database data and application configuration .ini file (in a distributable
jar), and create an application that requires no database install and no
DB connection setup.

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Libraries
About: AutoOpts is an integrated part of AutoGen. Based on a very simple
option description file, it will process configuration files, environment
variables, command line options, text strings passed by client programs,
and will make the results easily accessible to the client program. It will
also produce a man page and the info-doc invoking section automatically.
Changes: A one-off allocation error that caused rare segfaults was fixed.
The headers are now installed into an "autoopts" subdir, separating them
from client program include name space. The "for-each" main procedures can
now handle the arguments or input lists as file names and call the callback
function with the command argument after verifying it is a file, an
fopen-ed file pointer to the file, or with a pointer to the contents of
the named file.

Printing
About: The Big Faceless PDF Library is a Java class library for creating
PDF documents. The Extended Edition offers the ability to create and edit
AcroForms, PDF's answer to the HTML form. Like HTML forms, PDF forms can
contain text boxes, radio buttons, and can call JavaScript functions. The
Extended Edition also includes a PDF reader for importing and editing,
along with FDF support and verification for Digital Signatures. Both
variations offer full Unicode support, encryption, embedded TrueType and
Type1 fonts, barcodes, hyperlinks, spot and calibrated color. Advanced
text layout engine enables complex HTML styles. It is small, fast, easy to
use, and 100% pure Java.
Changes: The "trying to seal with mutable objects" error which occurred
when loading PDFs was fixed once and for all. PDFs are not encrypted if no
encryption is required. Form fields with non-ASCII field names are now
correctly handled.

[009] - Big Faceless Report Generator 1.1.25 (Stable)
by Big Faceless Organization (http://freshmeat.net/users/faceless/)
Tue, Feb 8th 2005 05:32
About: The Big Faceless Report Generator is a Java application for
converting source documents written in XML to PDF. Built on top of the Big
Faceless PDF & Graph Libraries, the Report Generator combines these
features and wraps an XML parser around them. Using JSP, ASP, XSL, or
similar, creating dynamic PDF documents directly from a database is now as
easy as HTML.
Changes: The use of default page size and font based on language was
fixed. Previous versions would always create letter-sized pages if the
document language was en_US, even if "body { size:A4 }" was in the
stylesheet. Likewise with fonts for Japanese, Chinese, and Korean
documents. List layouts were improved for direction=rtl lists (such as
those in Arabic and Hebrew). Fixes were made to the DTD. This version is
built with PDF library 2.3.3 and Graph library 1.1.6.

Tue, Feb 8th 2005 22:02
System :: Benchmark
System :: Boot
About: Bootchart is a tool for performance analysis and visualization of
the GNU/Linux boot process. Resource utilization data and process
information are collected during the boot process, and can later be
displayed in a PNG, SVG, or EPS encoded chart. Analyzing the chart will
help in finding opportunities for optimization.
Changes: This release brings significant changes to the boot logger. top
and iostat are no longer used, as the logger gets all the necessary data
from /proc directly (meaning more accurate information with less
overhead). Init scripts are no longer patched; the logger is started by
the kernel in place of /sbin/ init and has to explicitly enabled in

[017] - Conary 0.14.5
by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
Tue, Feb 8th 2005 15:11
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: Groups may now contain troves with conflicting flavors.
Configuration files may now change to symlinks between versions of a
trove. Duplicate listings of troves is now handled for erase and update.
The changeset command now allows you to specify flavors. The repquery
--info command now shows the trove flavor. This release fixes a bug in
flavor matching which caused the wrong base instruction set to be
considered a match and bugs in repository-side changeset caching.

[026] - ezmlm-idx 0.434
by Bruce Guenter (http://freshmeat.net/users/bruceguenter/)
Tue, Feb 8th 2005 00:02
Communications :: Email :: Mailing List Servers
About: ezmlm-idx is an addition and patch to ezmlm, adding multi-message
threaded archive retrieval, digests, remote administration, message and
subscription moderation, subscriber-only restrictions, message trailer,
subject prefix, subscriber name storage, customizable setup,
multi-language and MIME support, and more. In addition, it has improved
bounce handling, case-insensitive subscriber address storage, and support
for distributed lists (main and sublist are transparent to the
subscriber). It can be compiled with MySQL or PostgreSQL support.
Changes: The generic "ezmlm response" subject was replaced with unique
subjects. A failure to build and link ezmlm-mktab in the Makefile was
fixed along with a typo in the ezmlm-manage man page, the pt_BR language
texts, broken invocation of ezmlm-confirm in ezmlmrc, an ezmlmrc template
problem with moderated lists, and a deadlock between ezmlm-confirm and
ezmlm-store.

Security
Utilities
About: Revelation is a password manager for the GNOME 2 desktop. It uses
multiple account types which can be organized in a hierarchy (using
folders) and stored in a secure, encrypted file. User-friendliness and HIG
compliance are important design goals, and most of the expected
functionality is in place, including copy/cut/paste, unlimited undo/redo,
account searching, and more. It can also import data from and export data
to foreign file formats like Figaro's Password Manager.
Changes: This release marks the completion of the basic Revelation
functionality. A full rewrite was done to provide a better base for future
development. The new features include better clipboard use, drag-and-drop
reorganization of entries, porting to GTK+ 2.4, remote file access via
gnome-vfs, the use of icons from the current GNOME theme, MIME type and
file icon registration for the data file, and much more.

[062] - rlocate 0.2.1
by Rasto Levrinc (http://freshmeat.net/users/rastol/)
Tue, Feb 8th 2005 03:18
About: rlocate is an implementation of the "locate" command that is always
up-to-date. The database that the original locate uses is usually updated
only once a day, so newer files cannot be located right away. The behavior
of rlocate is the same as slocate, but it also maintains a diff database
that gets updated whenever a file is created or a directory is moved. The
rlocate kernel module can be compiled only with Linux 2.6 kernels.
Changes: The configure script now also checks the kernel configuration for
problems.

the messages they wish to receive and add their own MIME-based filter
plugins. C/C++, Java, Perl, Python, VisualBasic.net, C#, and PHP client
demos are included in the xmlBlaster test suite, and Tcl and Python demo
clients are scheduled. XmlBlaster also provides a browser callback
framework, allowing browsers (Netscape, Mozilla, MSIE) to receive instant
callbacks over a persistent http connection. A security plugin framework
allows authentication/authorization in many ways. Currently there are
LDAP- and passwd-based plugins available.
