[001] - Aeromys 0.1.4
by Luke Ehresman (http://freshmeat.net/users/lkehresman/)
Fri, Feb 18th 2005 15:35
Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Office/Business :: Groupware
About: Aeromys is an application that provides extremely fast access to
email through the Web. It accomplishes this by using predictive caching,
which means that information is retrieved from the mail server before it
is requested by the user. It is designed to be highly scalable, vastly
configurable, and extremely fast. The default front-end is written in PHP,
and the back-end engine is written in C.
Changes: This release adds reply and reply-all functionality, as well as
runtime configuration through an external configuration file. Sent
messages will now come from username@domain. Internal reorganization of
some code.

[002] - Aewan 0.9.5
by Bruno T. C. de Oliveira (http://freshmeat.net/users/btco/)
Fri, Feb 18th 2005 13:36
About: Aewan is a curses-based program that allows for the creation and
editing of ASCII art. The user is able to move the cursor around the
screen by means of the arrow keys and "paint" characters by pressing the
corresponding keys. There are dialog boxes that allow the user to choose
foreground and background colors, as well as bold and blink attributes.
The user may also select rectangular areas of the canvas in order to move,
copy, and paste them. Aewan also supports "intelligent" horizontal and
vertical flipping (e.g., it converts "\" to "/", etc). What sets Aewan
apart from similar projects is the fact that it can work with multiple
layers and has the ability to turn transparency and visibility on and off
for each layer. A layer dialog is provided through which the user can
change the order of the layers. Thus, each layer can be edited
independently in order to generate a composite drawing. Instead of using
the layers for compositing, it is also possible to use the layers as
frames for an animation, thus enabling the user to create ASCII
animations. The file format is easy to parse, so it is easy to write a
terminal-based application that uses the Aewan files to display onscreen.
Aewan has been tested on the Linux terminal, rxvt, xterm, and the FreeBSD
console.
Changes: A menu has been introduced in order to make the interface more
friendly. "new file" (i.e. clear everything and start from scratch)
functionality has been added. aecat now produces more XHTML-compliant HTML
and supports background color. Users can manipulate the upper-left corner
of selections in select mode.

[004] - Apes 2.5.1
by PtiYo (http://freshmeat.net/users/PtiYo/)
Fri, Feb 18th 2005 04:26
About: Apes is a process production tool (in the project management
meaning of the term). It enables you to model according to the SPEM
standards. Once the model is created, it enables you to generate a Web
site that documents the process. The advantages offered by this tool are
conformity with a standard, the ability to validate a process model, and
the ability to easily modify a model and to regenerate the associated Web
site.
Changes: This version features Java 1.5 support, updates to the template
management, fixes so that renaming an element in a diagram keeps the
alignment, updates to the copy/cut/ paste processing, updates to the work
product state display, and fixes to fit diagram to the size of the window
when opened.

[005] - Armangil's podcatcher 0.2.0
by doga (http://freshmeat.net/users/armangild/)
Fri, Feb 18th 2005 09:35
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: News/Diary
About: Armangil's podcatcher is a podcast client for the command line. It
downloads subscribed podcasts and generates M3U or PLS playlists that can
be fed into most MP3 player applications. Subscriptions are defined in
OPML files. The cache directory can be constrained in size, in which case
the oldest audio files from previous podcatching sessions are deleted
first.
Changes: This release adds a new download strategy ("one") that downloads
one show of each podcast, adds support for more than one OPML as argument,
and fixes an OPML argument issue (arguments that were files (and not HTTP
or FTP URLs) were not correctly handled).

[007] - Asymptote 0.62
by John Bowman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcbowman/)
Fri, Feb 18th 2005 04:20
Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: Asymptote is a powerful script-based vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. It is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program, allowing it to exploit the best
features of script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI)
methods. High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language
itself, allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.
Changes: This release introduces an elegant method for including and
positioning EPS pictures: the include function now returns a string
containing an includegraphics command that can be used just like a TeX
label. The pstoedit backend patch supports images and fixes text
alignment and clipping problems. A new basealign pen type allows labels
to be aligned to the TeX baseline, rather than to the full label
bounding box. The clipping code was cleaned up; unfilling pictures now
always works properly. Compilation issues under Solaris were solved and
the documentation was improved.

Text Processing :: Filters
About: DSPAM is a server-side statistical anti-spam agent for Unix email
servers. It masquerades as the email server's local delivery agent and
effectively filters spam using a combination of de-obfuscation techniques,
specialized algorithms, and statistical analysis. The result is an
administratively maintenance-free, self-learning anti-spam tool. DSPAM has
yielded real-world success rates beyond 99.9% accuracy with less than a
0.01% chance of false positives.
Changes: Two important bugs have been corrected. One was introduced in the
last few patch releases, causing the DSPAM signature not to be written to
some email messages (particularly, some types of nested spam), making them
"untrainable". The second caused DSPAM to segfault during some specific
types of failures, instead of exiting gracefully.

supports effects suchas fades, crops, and a Ken Burns effect. dvd-mainmenu
makes a top-level DVD menu with the output files from dvd-slideshow.
dir2slideshow makes a dvd-slideshow input file from a directory of
pictures. gallery2slideshow makes the input file from your Gallery album.
jigl2slideshow makes the input file from your jigl album.
Changes: The major improvements in this version are related to the
keywords available for the crop and Ken Burns effects. Easy to use
keywords like "crop 50% of the top right corner of the image" can now be
used. There are lots of bugfixes and other small features as well.

Fri, Feb 18th 2005 15:36
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: Emfatic Language for Eclipse provides support for using the Emfatic
programming language in Eclipse. It is comprised of several Eclipse
plug-ins, including an editor and a parser for the language. The Eclipse
plug-ins add actions that allow Emfatic source code to be compiled into an
Ecore model and also allow Ecore models to be decompiled into Emfatic
source code.
Changes: Changes in annotations and data types fix problems in mapping
between Emfatic and Ecore, and bring Emfatic annotation syntax more
closely in line with that of Java 1.5 annotations.

Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: GeboGebo is a wiki system written for tdbengine. It stores all data
in a local database structure and thus provides an indexed fulltext search.
It uses a simple syntax, and has user lists, pages history, a missing pages
list, and a recent changes list. Image and file upload are possible, but
can be disabled. This allows it to work as a small document management
system. A blacklist allows you to lock existing pages from being edited or
new pages from being created. It can also be run in static mode, where all
pages are additionally held as static HTML pages.
Changes: GeboGebo now supports tables that are built with the almost same
syntax as in mediawiki. A diff view now shows the differences between any
revisions of a page. Plugins and macros enable GeboGebo to become an open
system for many tasks. Plugins are simply dropped into the plugins
directory and can be used from then on. Some text formatting rules have
been improved and a few bugs have been fixed.

[038] - HTML Document Object 2.26 (Stable)
by James A. Pattie (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcxuser/)
Fri, Feb 18th 2005 15:37
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: The HTMLObject is a set of Perl modules that provides the ability
to create Dynamic HTML documents (Framesets, DHTML, etc.). You can
generate your code without having to do cookies first, then JavaScript,
then the body. As long as the content is output in the correct order, you
can generate JavaScript or cookies at any point since the output is not
sent to the server until you call the display() method. It attempts to
fully support HTML 4.x and XHTML. Helper methods are provided to do
cookies, URI encoding, etc. There is a Form processing module which will
generate the form, gather the input, and then validate the input,
re-displaying the form if errors are encountered with the invalid entries
marked as such.
Changes: The last of the XHTML issues should be fixed. The
createTemplate() method has been added to generate a form template given
the data hash, if the user doesn't want to manually create one. More
shortcuts have been added for the form tags, so #F=x# is now valid, etc.

Internet :: Proxy Servers
System :: Networking
About: Ping Tunnel is a tool for reliably tunneling TCP connections over
ICMP echo request and reply packets (commonly known as ping requests and
replies). It is useful for evading firewalls that, for whatever reason,
prevent outgoing TCP connections, but allow in- and outgoing ICMP packets.
The tunnel works by having a proxy run on a machine ping-able from the
inside of the firewall, with the client running on the local machine from
which TCP access is required.
Changes: This release fixes a locking bug and produces working executables
on 64-bit computers. A number of other minor bugfixes have also been made,
and support for logging to a file has been introduced.

embeds a Pronto emulator.
Changes: This release fixes a bug that caused some grids to display a
column heading when they weren't supposed to, an important bug in Orbiter,
and memory leaks in binary data requests (it was serializing the structure
but not freeing), modifies Orbiter not to go to the screen with admin

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Wi.Ser is a Java/XML server-side GUI-framework which enables an
application to run as either a monolithic Swing app, a client/server Swing
app, or as a Web app without any change. It includes a mixed deployment
mode, which supports one server to serve Swing clients and Web clients at
the same time. The framework uses XML to define an application's GUI. It
provides a common widget-based, object-oriented programming interface for
Web and Swing GUIs, which prevents the developer from struggling with HTML
and HTTP or with the internals of Swing. For Swing client/server
applications the client/server split as well as the client/server
communication is handled transparently by the framework. The project
includes a GUI builder that is based on the framework's functionality
(screenshot, deployed as a Web/HTML application).
Changes: Web applications recognize reload via the browser button and
perform a full render. A new widget called snapShotWidget renders any
Swing widget as an image. Some bugs in the Swing C/S communication layer
have been fixed. A new example explains the treeView. The results of event
handling are buffered (if needed) on the server side, and submitted within
one transaction after all events of a C/S round trip have been processed.
