Sat, Feb 19th 2005 19:04
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: elemenope is an Enterprise Application Integration, Service
Oriented Architecture, and general messaging framework. It provides the
capability for massive decoupling of an enterprise's components through
standardized interfaces for communications. It provides complete
abstraction of both transmission protocol and functional components. A
project may connect components via a particular protocol standard, and
completely change the protocol technology deployed with a simple change to
a configuration file, i.e. no code changes. elemenope allows an
organization to easily create a large scale multi-platform application to
conduct messaging or transaction processing. It simplifies architecture of
large systems by standardizing functional components and message pathways.
Changes: This release features the reorganization of base interfaces for
complete transmission protocol and functional transparency, the addition
of new connectors (direct/blocking call connector and SOAP Web services
connector), and new framework features of configurable dispatcher (send)
failover and complete protocol transparency for transmission and receipt
of messages.

[016] - File Service Protocol 2.8.1b24 (Beta)
by Sven Hoexter (http://freshmeat.net/users/hoaxter/)
Sat, Feb 19th 2005 19:12
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
About: FSP is a UDP-based protocol for transferring files. It has many
benefits over FTP, mainly for running anonymous archives. It is usable on
lines with high packet loss ratio (70% WiFi), can go behind firewalls and
unnoticed by port scans (because of UDP), does not overload networks when
hosting ISOs or movies, share files on modem lines without eating all of
the bandwidth, and keeps lamers away from your site (they don't know how
to get to it). This project is active continuation of the FSP code base
(abandoned 1996-2003).
Changes: This release resolves a problem where large packages confused
older FSP client versions. Client side security was increased: the
sequence number is now random, and the received filepos and command in
the server reply are now tested. Build system migration from autoconf to
scons was started and support for pre-ANSI compilers was dropped.

[017] - findutils 4.2.18
by James Youngman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jyoungman/)
Sat, Feb 19th 2005 06:50
System :: Systems Administration
About: The findutils package consists of three programs. `find' is a
program which searches a directory tree to find a file or group of files.
It walks the directory tree and reports all occurences of a file matching
the user's specifications. `locate' scans one or more databases of
filenames and displays any matches. `xargs' builds and executes command
lines by gathering together arguments it reads on the standard input. Most
often, these arguments are lists of file names generated by `find'.
Changes: This release adds fixes to "find -depth" (for missing non-leaf
directories when they contain non-directories), and to "xargs -i" and
"find -okdir", "find/-execdir", and "find bar/baz/ugh", where baz is a
symbolic link. Find no longer hangs on systems which are clients of
unresponsive NFS servers. "find foo [predicates...] -execdir ..." now
works when foo matches the stated predicates. There are new message
translations and updated documentation.

[026] - getmail 4.3.3 (Stable)
by Charles Cazabon (http://freshmeat.net/users/twoflower/)
Sat, Feb 19th 2005 11:50
Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: getmail is intended as a simple, secure, and reliable replacement
for fetchmail. It retrieves email (either all messages, or only unread
messages) from one or more POP3, SPDS, or IMAP4 servers (with or without
SSL) for one or more email accounts, and reliably delivers into
qmail-style Maildirs, mboxrd files, or through external MDAs (command
deliveries) specified on a per-account basis. getmail also has excellent
support for domain (multidrop) mailboxes, including delivering messages to
different users or destinations based on the envelope recipient address.
Changes: Previously, for safety, getmail would re-retrieve messages after
a session that encountered errors. However, getmail had enough information
to safely remember those messages that had been successfully delivered.
This behavior has been changed to avoid delivering duplicate messages
where it isn't necessary. In output/log files, getmailrc files are now
specified only by filename, instead of by complete paths. This will
prevent some overly-long output lines. Windows versions of functions to
lock/unlock files were added, so mbox delivery can be used on Windows.

About: VisMon provides a framework for graphical application monitoring,
control, automatic error recovery, and high availability (HA) clustering
across the Unix, Linux, and Windows 2K/XP/NT platforms. It uses scripting
(shell/VBscript) or Java class APIs to monitor, control, recover, and
failover applications. VisMon can manage any number of nodes on a TCP/IP
network from any location. This is achieved by installing a single VisMon
Agent on each server node, which can be controlled and monitored by one or
more VisMon Explorer GUIs from the local LAN or Internet.
Changes: Agent zoning to any level of hierarchy is now supported, with
each Zone node taking the status of its child Zones and Agents. This helps
to manage and identify problems with large VisMon Agent installations.

[036] - JTVD 0.4.1
by Torsten Römer (http://freshmeat.net/users/dode/)
Sat, Feb 19th 2005 12:48
Multimedia :: Video
About: JTVD is a graphical frontend for popular command line programs such
as MEncoder, transcode, MJPEG Tools, toolame, DVDAuthor, and growisofs. It
makes it easy to grab videos from Video4Linux devices such as TV cards,
encode the data to DVD-compatible MPEG2 files, and author and burn a video
DVD with a simple title menu.
Changes: A problem with special characters being wrongly displayed in the
"Messages" tab has been fixed. The "Speed" and "Overburn" options have
been fixed. It is now possible to specify an ALSA hardware ID instead of
an OSS device file, which is useful if ALSA is installed without OSS
compatibility. The tables can now be sorted by clicking on the column
headers. JTVD now remembers its settings, and it is also possible to
save/load the settings to/from a file. A small section describing known

Changes: This release mainly focuses on the introduction of a ring
framebuffer for the display content. This can be used to scroll up and
down the display content. The memory area used for the ring framebuffer is
now dynamically allocated, giving the opportunity to specify the number of
display frames to be allocated. Several bugs in the console support were

Sat, Feb 19th 2005 13:43
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing
About: LectroTest is an automatic, specification-based testing tool for
Perl. The user declares properties that specify the expected behavior of
your software. LectroTest then checks your software to see whether those
properties hold. It does this by running thousands of trials in which your
software is tested against the claims of your properties. The trials are
drawn randomly from the "test space" defined by your properties.
LectroTest's testing engine is fully configurable and exposed as an
object.
Changes: Test::LectroTest now follows Test::Simple's exit-code strategy:
the number of failures (up to 254) is reported via the exit code.
Test::LectroTest::TestRunner::run_suite now returns the number of
properties that were successfully checked. (Previously, it reported 0 if
any check failed.) Full test coverage was added. Devel::Coverage says that
the LT unit tests now cover 100% of statements, branches, conditionals, and
subroutines.

Changes: This version features a pseudo CTAPI driver which allows
CTAPI-based applications to transparently connect to Libchipcard2, thus
broadening the range of usable readers to those programs. A dynamic
reader-driver module for OpenSC has been added. Libchipcard2 now also
includes a service for German medical cards, replacing the old KVK daemon.

About: minpair generates a complete list of minimal pairs (words differing
in exactly one segment) from a list of words in UTF-8 Unicode. By default,
only searches for pairs of words of the same length differing in exactly
one segment. Command line options allow the addition of single insertions

it is normally necessary for the input notation to use one character for
each segment. Even in IPA transcription, this is often not the case.

[065] - rxvt-unicode 5.2
by Marc A. Lehmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcg1/)
Sat, Feb 19th 2005 19:15
Desktop Environment
Software Development :: Internationalization
Terminals
About: rxvt-unicode is a clone of the well known terminal emulator rxvt,
modified to store text in Unicode (either UCS-2 or UCS-4) and to use
locale-correct input and output. It also supports mixing multiple fonts at
the same time, including Xft fonts.
Changes: This release enhances embedding ability by adding support for
XEMBED and a new option -pty-fd. A Perl/Tk example and a simple tabbed
terminal written in Perl/GTK 2 have been added. A number of features and
bugs have been ported from the original rxvt, and terminfo interaction
has been improved with respect to the initial keypad mode (helps some
non-curses apps) and ISO-2022 registers (which makes use of line drawing
characters possible in locales such as EUC-JP).

[066] - slashem 0.0.7E7 (Development)
by J. Ali Harlow (http://freshmeat.net/users/jaharlow/)
Sat, Feb 19th 2005 13:40
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: Slash'EM (Super Lotsa Added Stuff Hack -- Extended Magic) is a
variant of the hugely popular roguelike game NetHack. It adds more
monsters, more objects, more dungeon levels, more roles, and more races,
shopkeeper services, and techniques for you to use, and invisible objects
and gypsies for those who feel lucky. It also comes with a GTK windowing
interface and higher resolution tile sets as options.
Changes: A number of nasty crash bugs in 0.0.7E6F3 have been fixed. A
regression which caused odd merging behavior of thrown objects has been
sorted. Bullets and the like now pass iron bars. Deep dragons have been
adjusted to be more consistent. The FreeBSD port now builds correctly.
Numerous less serious bugs have also been fixed.

[068] - Sprog 0.06
by Grant McLean (http://freshmeat.net/users/grantm/)
Sat, Feb 19th 2005 03:11
Desktop Environment :: Tools
Information Management
Internet :: Log Analysis
About: Sprog is a graphical tool that anyone can use to build programs by
plugging parts together. In Sprog jargon, the parts are known as 'gears'
and they are assembled to make a 'machine'. Gears are selected from a
palette and dragged onto the Sprog workbench, where they can be connected
together. Options can be set using a properties dialog on each gear. When
assembly is complete, the machine can be run, reconfigured, or re-run.
Changes: The 'gear' palette is completely new in this release. It allows
all available gears to be browsed, filtered by connector type, and located
using keyword searches.

[069] - Stella 1.4.2
by Stephen Anthony (http://freshmeat.net/users/stephena/)
Sat, Feb 19th 2005 19:06
System :: Emulators
About: Stella is a freely distributed multi-platform Atari 2600 VCS
emulator originally developed for Linux by Bradford W. Mott. Since its
original release several people have joined the development team to port
Stella to other operating systems such as DOS, OS/2, MacOS, Unix, and
Windows 95 & NT.
Changes: This release updates the sound system to remove all popping and
cracking sounds. It fixes the gl_fsmax argument, and adds Alt [ and Alt ]
keys to dynamically adjust the sound volume, Control 0, Control 1, Control
2, and Control 3 keys to dynamically change which paddle the mouse should
emulate. It also adds a video_driver argument, and makes sure the screen
is refreshed before taking a snapshot.

[070] - sudosh 1.4.3
by Doug Hanks (http://freshmeat.net/users/dhanks/)
Sat, Feb 19th 2005 13:48
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
System :: Operating System
About: sudosh is a filter that takes advantage of PTY devices in order to
sit between the user's keyboard and a program, in this case a shell. It
was designed specifically to be used in conjunction with sudo, and allows
the execution of a root shell with logging. It is basically a VCR and will
record root shell sessions and also has the ability to play back the
sessions as they were originally recorded. It records all input/output,
keyboard input, and timing information so that the session can be played
back in the original format.
Changes: A critical bugfix was made. sudosh 1.4.2 was reporting the
incorrect user when used with sudo. A "To User" field was added so that
it's perfectly clear who sudosh'd to whom. Sudosh now supports logging
sessions as any user, not just as root only. The way sudosh-replay reports
was updated to be much easier to read.

About: "Swapd" is a daemon that watches free memory and manages swap
files. If free memory drops too low, additional swap files are created.
Additionally, if there is too much free memory, swap files are
deactivated and disk space may be reclaimed. Swapd is intended to be
portable across POSIX-compliant platforms.

[073] - T2 2.1.0-beta3
by René Rebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/ReneRebe/)
Sat, Feb 19th 2005 03:35
System :: Operating System
System :: Software Distribution
About: T2 is a system development environment. It provides a
self-contained distribution build kit based on sources with an up-to-date
tool and development toolchain (gcc, glibc, uclibc, dietlibc, X.org, KDE,
GNOME, etc.). Its basis is an automatic build system that makes it
possible to either update a running system or create a binary distribution
that can later be deployed via network or physical media. The system is
extremely versatile and makes it possible to create sets of programs for
different kinds of systems, from routers to desktops, including different
architectures and platforms.
Changes: The release includes full uClibc support (which builds with far
more packages than dietlibc), parallel build support for make and scons,
and support for x86-64. ccache support now works more reliably with recent
ccache releases. SPARC64 support was improved, bash 3 was fixed
significantly, various bootdisk creation and file layout improvements were
made, wide ncurses was added, and the nVidia binary-only driver now really
does get installed. The numerous package updates included Linux 2.6.10,
Linux 2.4.29, and a migration to aspell 0.60. Development tools for the
Atmel AVR were included.

[074] - TextOS 1.0b5
by core_dump (http://freshmeat.net/users/core_dump_0/)
Sat, Feb 19th 2005 22:03
System :: Operating System
About: TextOS is a small operating system for text-based applications. It
is built on top of FreeDOS, and it runs programs made with the TextOS
BASIC programming language. It can be run from a floppy disk.
Changes: This release fixes a bug where in extremely rare situations the
program would not start. It adds a PAK file creation menu. Note that the
included editor is not an ANSI editor. A bug where deleting a PAK would
clear the cache as well was fixed. A bug where deleting a PAK would not
work if the ".PAK" extension wasn't typed was fixed. A bug where TextOS
required a DOS/Windows formatted C drive to run properly was fixed. This
includes a switch from the newer DJGPP tar/gzip/gunzip/zcat to older
GNUish project versions. There are other updates as well.

[075] - tntnet 1.3.0
by Tommi Mäkitalo (http://freshmeat.net/users/tmaek/)
Sat, Feb 19th 2005 19:11
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: Tntnet is a Web application server for generating Web applications
in C++. HTML pages with some additional tags for inclusion of C++ code are
compiled into shared libraries and served from tntnet. It resembles PHP,
JSP, or Mason, but the programming language used is C++, and the pages are
compiled into native code before serving.
Changes: This release features much improved thread handling. There is a
poller thread, which waits for activity on idle connections, so that one
thread per connection is no longer needed. The number of worker threads
are now limited and justified dynamically between a low- and
high-water-mark. The template language ecpp has a nicer, more HTML/XML-
like call syntax for subcomponents. There are more examples to
demonstrate the various features of tntnet/ ecpp. A configuration script,
tntnet-config, helps to set up the program.

[076] - udpcast 20050217
by Alain (http://freshmeat.net/users/alainknaff/)
Sat, Feb 19th 2005 06:55
Communications
Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
About: UDPCast allows to send data simultaneously to many destinations on
a local net. This can for instance be used to install entire classrooms of
PCs at once. The advantage over using other methods (nfs, ftp, whatever) is
that udpcast uses Ethernet's multicast abilities: it won't take longer to
install 15 machines than it would to install 2. The tool comes with a
modified linuxrc bootdisk for easy loading of the tool. However, udpcast
can also be started from the command line of an already installed system,
and can be used for other purposes than just system installation.
Changes: This release adds lots of minor bugfixes, support for SATA disks,
and an upgrade to busybox 1.00 and kernels 2.6.10 and 2.4.29.

[079] - vxargs 0.3
by Yun Mao (http://freshmeat.net/users/maoyun1977/)
Sat, Feb 19th 2005 19:05
About: vxargs provides parallel versions of any arbitrary command,
including ssh, rsync, scp, wget, and curl. One reason to use it is to
control a large set of machines in a wide-area network or a big cluster.
The main features are parallelism (for running many jobs at the same
time), flexibility, visualization (users can monitor the total and per-job
progress in a curses-based UI), and redirection, in which stdout and stderr
of each individual job are redirected to files for further analysis.
Changes: This release fixes the bug where when a command spawned multiple
processes after timeout, only the main process was terminated or killed,
adds better handling SIGINT signals, adds a --no-exec (-n) option,
similar to make -n, and adds pattern-based argument and safepath
examples.
