by Tim Gunter (http://freshmeat.net/users/IcyLiquid/)
Sun, Feb 20th 2005 16:19
Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat
About: This project is a module for Anope IRC Services that allows
operators to create AOE (Akill On Entry) channels. These channels are
emptied of users, and any subsequent joins receive an Akill (or one of a
number of other configurable actions). The purpose of this module is to
allow operators to have control over channels being used by spambot nets.

About: Autohouse II is an invoicing system for auto repair shops. It
includes a customer and vehicle database, the ability to generate
invoices, and the ability to track the repair history of a vehicle.

by mean99 (http://freshmeat.net/users/mean99/)
Sun, Feb 20th 2005 06:08
Multimedia :: Video :: Non-Linear Editor
About: Avidemux is a graphical tool to edit video. It can open AVI,
openDML, MPEG, Nuppelvideo, and BMPs. Most common codecs are supported
(M-JPEG, MPEG, DivX, Xvid, huffyuv, WMA, etc.) thanks to libavcodec and
libmpeg2. Video can be edited, cut, appended, filtered
(resize/crop/denoise), and re-encoded to either AVI (DivX/Xvid) or MPEG
1/2.
Changes: The MPEG output muxer is now libmplex for maximum compliance.
OpenDML write support was added. Vobsub subtitles are now supported. A
couple of fixes were made for the Win32 version, specifically reading
large files and openDML reading.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Security
About: DansGuardian is a Web content filtering proxy that uses Squid to do
all the fetching. It filters using multiple methods including, but not
limited to, phrase matching, file extension matching, MIME type matching,
PICS filtering, and URL/domain blocking. It has the ability to switch off
filtering by certain criteria including username, domain name, source IP,
etc. The configurable logging produces a log in an easy to read format. It
has the option to only log text-based pages, thus significantly reducing
redundant information (such as every image on a page).
Changes: This release contains many important bugfixes since version
2.8.0.1. These bugs include users appearing to be in the wrong group, HTTP
protocol errors, 64-bit compatibility, gentle restart loading unneeded
config files, and compilation issues on Debian, FreeBSD, and Mac OS X. The
non-English message files have also been updated.

System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: Dar is a shell command that makes backup of a directory tree and
files. Its features include splitting archives over several files, CDs,
ZIPs, or floppies, compression, full or differential backups, proper
saving and restoration of hard links and extended attributes, remote
backup using pipes and external command (such as ssh), and rearrangement
of the "slices" of an existing archive. It can now run commands between
slices, encrypt archives, and quickly retrieve individual files from
differential and full backups. Dar also has external GUI like kdar for
Linux, thanks to the well documented API.
Changes: This minor release includes several bugfixes and some
documentation updates. It tightens the directory permissions used during
restoration.

supports recursively descending through a directory in order to make sure
it encrypts or decrypts every file in a directory and all of its
subdirectories. All file mtime and atime values are preserved across
encryption and decryption operations. In addition, gpgdir is careful not

Database
Database :: API
Database :: Database Engines/Servers
About: MonetDB is a database management system developed from a
main-memory perspective using a fully decomposed storage model, automatic
index management, extensibility of data types and search accelerators, and
SQL- and XML- frontends.
Changes: This major release adds an embedded version of MonetDB/ SQL for
standalone, single-user packages. This is achieved using a major
reduction in footprint, optional compilation of core features, and
removing lock overhead not needed in single-user mode. An embedded
version may show a performance improvement of up to 50 percent. In
addition, the SQL front-ends use more strict SQL'99 types, and error
reporting has been greatly improved. The Perl/DBI interface has been
completely revamped.

[033] - Name Server Configurator 3.0
by Martin Mares (http://freshmeat.net/users/mj/)
Sun, Feb 20th 2005 05:45
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
About: NSC is a set of utilities for easy administration of DNS servers.
You write very simple configuration files and NSC automatically generates
zone files, reverse zone files, and configuration for the BIND. Among
other things, it also supports classless reverse delegations and IPv6
addressing. NSC is written in POSIX shell and GNU M4, and it should run on
all systems where these two languages are available. Generation of DNS
daemon config files is currently limited to BIND 8 or 9, but it's very
easy to add your own config file generators for other daemons.
Changes: This version has been released after a long period of
beta-testing without any bugs found. It contains all new features from
version 2.99b and the ability to add custom zone options.

[050] - Secure Back Door 0.5
by Jordan Wilberding (http://freshmeat.net/users/diginux/)
Sun, Feb 20th 2005 20:22
System :: Systems Administration
Terminals :: Telnet
About: Secure Back Door (SBD) is a tool that provides ultra-secure and
minimal access to a computer, which allows you to run a single command
based on a one time key. It is good if you don't want to have an SSH
server running all the time, and only want to start it when needed.
Because it is written in only a few lines of code, it is hoped that it
will be less susceptible to security exploits than a program like SSH.
Changes: This version is the first complete release. The remote execution
of commands on the server side has been enabled, so the client and server
are now fully functional and ready for use. SBD is still in development
and a few more features will be added, but as of now it is functionally
secure, complete, and usable.
