[001] - AbstractDB 1.0.0 (Stable)
  by Pacific-Cybersoft (http://freshmeat.net/users/pacificc/)
  Sun, Mar 13th 2005 06:53

Database :: API

About: AbstractDB is a database abstraction layer, object oriented and
extensible via driver implementations which extend from a common base
class. This package encapsulates all of the basic functions required by
most developers without the complexity and/or utter simplicity of many
other  abstraction packages.

Changes: A bug in the connection argument parser that was incorrectly
parsing the Username and Hostname arguments was fixed. Handling of driver
results and return values for all methods that fetch result sets was
improved. A private method was added to the main class that checks if a
given variable is a resource, and is used in all methods that accept a
resource as a parameter. The $rs parameter was removed from the
GetInsertID method, since it was not needed. Usage examples were added.

[002] - Alexandria Book Collection Manager 0.5.0
  by Laurent Sansonetti (http://freshmeat.net/users/lrz/)
  Sun, Mar 13th 2005 07:39

Database :: Front-Ends
Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: Alexandria is a GNOME application to help manage a book collection.
It retrieves book information (including cover pictures) from several
online libraries, allows you to search for a book (either by EAN/ISBN,
title, authors, or keyword), can import and export data into ONIX,
Tellico, and EAN/ISBN-list formats, generates Web pages from your
libraries, allows marking your books as loaned, saves data using the YAML
format, features an HIG-compliant user interface, shows books in different
views that can be filtered or sorted, and handles book rating and notes.

Changes: This release introduces, among other things, XHTML/CSS export, a
new provider for the Spanish Ministry of Culture, loaning support,
ISBN-less support, and a lot of bugfixes and usability/performance
improvements.

Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: Anyterm provides a terminal emulator on a Web page using Javascript
and an Apache module. The module forks a shell and communicates with the
script using XMLHTTP on port 80. This provides you with shell access to
your machine from almost any Web browser, even when firewalls are in the
way.

Changes: The ROTE library is now used for terminal emulation, and the
Javascript can send control characters, so curses programs and editing
work. The Apache module still doesn't use shared memory.

[009] - Coherent Mail Gateway 0.12.0
  by Thomas Worthington (http://freshmeat.net/users/nagora/)
  Sun, Mar 13th 2005 06:54

Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: POP3

About: Coherent Mail Gateway is intended to be a very easy to set up MTA
using SMTP and POP3. Greylisting is used on the SMTP daemon to reduce
spam. In addition, quite a lot of checks on the validity of information
from the SMTP client (such as claimed server name and sender) are carried
out, and anyone caught telling lies is disconnected. Grey-, black-, and
white-listing are supported, as well as (optionally) ClamAV and Spamhaus.
The target market is users with static IP addresses. Others can use the
system, but its value will be limited to outgoing email.

Changes: Bounced messages are now handled better, since responses with a
value higher than "500' are bounced instantly instead of remaining in the
queue for re-trying. Also, bounce messages now say which address failed to
make it clear in cases where there were multiple targets. A few other very
minor changes were made.

  Sun, Mar 13th 2005 16:36

Information Management :: Document Repositories
Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks

About: CRM-CTT allows you to create entities to which you can attach
files, place alerts, prioritize, etc. It is multi-lingual and
customizable. It can be used for any department in which something comes
in, must be handled, and goes out, such as bug tracking, systems
management (including assets) or helpdesk call tracking. It creates
management information in PDF and Excel. Installation is done using a
simple script, and a clear manual is included.

Changes: This version is mainly about workflow. Using the extended event
trigger support, you can create real workflows which an entity should
follow. There are some other new features, like special character encoding
support for language packs and some bugfixes.

[015] - Extended C++ Callback Library 0.0.6
  by evilissimo (http://freshmeat.net/users/evilissimo/)
  Sun, Mar 13th 2005 06:48

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Extended C++ Callback Library provides functors and delegates for
up to ten parameters. The delegate/functor creator template function is
overloaded for every case and is easy to use. Some callback "containers"
will make life easier in special cases. For example, with DelegateList,
you are able to execute all callbacks with a single call.

[016] - fcron 2.9.6
  by Thibault Godouet (http://freshmeat.net/users/fcron/)
  Sun, Mar 13th 2005 16:24

System

About: Fcron is a periodical command scheduler which aims at replacing
vixie cron, so it implements most of its functionality. It does not assume
that your system is running either all the time or regularly: you can, for
instance, tell fcron to execute tasks every x hours y minutes of system
uptime or to do a job only once in a specified interval of time. You can
also set a nice value to a job, run it depending on the system load
average, and much more.

Changes: This release fixes the latest daylight saving time change bug.
Several checks have also been added to avoid such bugs. Fcrontab behaves
better when there is no space left on the partition. A script (not enabled
by default) has been added to "emulate" Vixie cron behavior about
/etc/crontab and /etc/cron.d (i.e. when there is a change, automatically
take it into account, without the need for running fcrontab by hand). See
the beginning of script/check_system_crontabs for more information.

[017] - ffmpeg-php extension 0.4.3
  by tkirby (http://freshmeat.net/users/tkirby/)
  Sun, Mar 13th 2005 20:25

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Multimedia :: Video
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: ffmpeg-php is an extension for PHP that adds an easy to use
object-oriented API for retrieving information from movies and audio
files. It has methods for returning frames from movie files as images that
can be manipulated using PHP's image functions. This works well for
automatically creating thumbnail images from movie files. ffmpeg-php is
also useful for reporting the duration and bitrate of audio files (mp3,
wma...). ffmpeg-php can access many of the formats supported by ffmpeg.

Changes: The ability to open movies as persistent resources has been
added. This gives a six fold increase in speed when repeatedly accessing a
movie in different requests. Reading of 3gp movies has been fixed. Stride
problems if a frame is resized upwards have been fixed. Functions now use
safe_emalloc() to avoid integer overflows. Some macros have been updated
to allow compiling on Windows. Undefined symbol errors have been fixed,
and strictness of compiler warnings increased to catch these in the
future. Error handling when movie object creation fails has been fixed, so
these errors can be trapped in a PHP script.

[019] - Find Duplicate Music Files 0.0.9n
  by Kurt Rosenfeld (http://freshmeat.net/users/krar/)
  Sun, Mar 13th 2005 18:50

Communications :: File Sharing
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Analysis
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping

About: Find Duplicate Music Files is designed to detect music files that
contain the same music, even if the files are differently named, and are
in different formats such as MP3 and OGG, and contain different or
non-existent meta-information such as ID3 tags. The program operates on
whole directories of music file at a time, or upon multiple directories.
It analyzes them and outputs the filenames of pairs that seem similar.

Changes: This release, 0.0.9n, uses Mplayer as a decoder for the various
audio file formats. Now fdmf can detect that a pair of files contain the
same music even if they are in different formats including any combination
of MP3, OGG, WAV, WMA, M4A, and Realaudio. This release also fixes some
minor bugs.

[021] - Gnumeric 1.4.3 (Stable)
  by J.H.M. Dassen (Ray) (http://freshmeat.net/users/jdassen/)
  Sun, Mar 13th 2005 06:57

Desktop Environment :: Gnome

About: Gnumeric is a powerful and easy to use spreadsheet using GNOME. Its
goal is to provide a full featured spreadsheet and a smooth migration path
for people and organizations currently using proprietary applications. It
provides more sheet functions and greatly improved accuracy when compared
to Microsoft's Excel. A plugin system lets you extend Gnumeric, adding
functions, I/O formats, and real time data capabilities. The existing
Python, Guile, and Perl plugins let you define complex functions. Gnumeric
is capable of reading and writing MS Excel, and reading Lotus, Applix,
Quattro Pro, OpenCalc, XBase, DIF, SYLK, HTML, Psion, MPS, oleo, sc, misc.
text formats, and its native XML. It can also generate Latex, HTML, and
others.

Changes: This is a bugfix release for 1.4.x with various minor patches.
The main point of interest is that a problem with GTK's large window
handing on Win32 was fixed. The 1.4.3 packages for Win32 are now
considered ready for general usage. There are still missing pieces
(printing and registry connections) but the core application can display
smoothly now.

[023] - gzip Recovery Toolkit 0.3

  Sun, Mar 13th 2005 07:47

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Compression
System :: Recovery Tools

About: The gzip Recovery Toolkit attempts to automate the recovery of data
from corrupted gzip files through a program called gzrecover and from
corrupted tar files through a new --recover option to GNU tar. This
package is very experimental at this point.

Changes: This release contains two principal updates. First, a change was
made in the read strategy in gzrecover. Previously, the corrupted gzip
data extractor program relied on mmap(2) to read files. This has been
changed to a buffered read strategy which should allow support for any
sized file as well as platforms that don't allow files to be memory
mapped. Files sizes up to 168GB have been tested. Second, the license on
gzrecover has been switched from the zlib license (a BSD variant) to the
GPL.

TCP, UDP, and ICMP signatures included in Snort to detect highly suspect
scans for various backdoor programs (e.g. EvilFTP, GirlFriend, SubSeven),
DDoS tools (mstream, shaft), and advanced port scans (syn, fin, Xmas)
which are easily leveraged against a machine via nmap. Psad also uses
packet TTL, IP id, TOS, and TCP window sizes to passively fingerprint the
remote operating system from which scans originate.

Changes: Updated to Snort-2.3 rules. An IPTables::ChainMgr module has been
added to manage Netfilter auto-blocking rules within custom chains created
by psad. An IPT_AUTO_CHAIN keyword has been added to configure the set of
chains used by psad. There is a bugfix for distinguishing OPT field
associated with --log-tcp-options vs. --log-ip-options. The ability to
import an IP into the Netfilter auto-blocking chains from the command line
with --fw-block-ip has been added (this allows a running psad process to
manage blocking rule timeouts). The dependency on the sendmail command has
been removed unless DShield alerting is enabled.

About: QConsole is a character terminal server over Bluetooth for Symbian
devices, and a Linux and Windows terminal client. It uses the built in
BlueTooth support on Symbian devices, and the userspace BlueZ Linux
BlueTooth libraries. On Windows, it uses the embedded BlueTooth OS
support. The QConsole server sets up an RFCOMM channel on the Symbian
device and listens for connections. On the Linux and Windows side, the
corresponding QTTY terminal allows a BlueTooth-enabled Linux/Windows box
to connect to the QConsole server and execute a veriety of shell commands.

Changes: This release adds wildcard support and recursion to QConsole's
"get" / "put" commands, and improves "find" command performance.

[066] - The Fish 0.6.5
  by Miguel Mendez (http://freshmeat.net/users/mmendez/)
  Sun, Mar 13th 2005 07:45

System :: Systems Administration

About: The Fish provides a GTK-based graphical tool to manage and edit
FreeBSD system variables stored in /etc/defaults/rc.conf and /etc/rc.conf.
For testing purposes, or, for users that need to have different
configurations, the program honours two environment variables:
FISH_RC_DEFAULTS and FISH_RC.

Changes: The frontend code now receives an RC_CONF struct instead of two
RC_NODEs. Two illegal memory writes detected by valgrind were fixed. Parts
of the code were edited to conform to FreeBSD's code style guide. The GTK+
interface makes use of some GTK 2.6+ features if that version of the
library is present. The man page was updated.

  Sun, Mar 13th 2005 07:54

Desktop Environment :: Tools
Desktop Environment :: Window Managers

About: transset-df is a heavily patched version of xorg's transset, which
makes it possible to easily integrate transparency into any window
manager. It is used to set transparency on a window in an X server with
the xcomposite extension. It gives the user different methods to select
the window: select by clicking, select immediately without a click (called
"select by pointing"), select by window id, and select by window name.

Changes: The "--name" and "--id" options now work in xfwm, wmaker, and
many other window managers where they were previously broken. Regular
expressions are now used with "--name".

  by Evgeny Stambulchik (http://freshmeat.net/users/fnevgeny/)
  Sun, Mar 13th 2005 02:47

Software Development :: Code Generators
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: XCC is a tool for building XML format parsers. One way to describe
what XCC does is by analogy with a generic parser generator, e.g. yacc or
bison. Yacc needs a lexical analyzer to function properly, and that
lexical analyzer is usually built with (f)lex. In the XML world, there are
a few packages which fill in the role of lex (expat and libxml are the most
known), but the high-level grammar parsing is usually done by a
hand-written code; writing such a parser is a tedious and error-prone
task. XCC was created to help developers in writing reliable
easy-to-understood parsers for handling complex XML-based grammars.

most of the programs are filters which read and/or write XML. There are
backends to download TV listings for several countries. It also includes
some filter tools to sort, grep, print, and munge listings, and two
end-user programs to plan a week's TV viewing.

Changes: The grabbers for France (tv_grab_fr) and Hungary and Romania

would expect. It includes several advanced features like image processing
algorithms, programmable C scripts, simultaneous editing of multiple
images, and supports a wide variety of image formats.

Changes: Xpaint should now behave properly under window manager resize
