[001] - Album Shaper 2.0
by Will Stokes (http://freshmeat.net/users/tnlmn/)

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
About: Album Shaper is a graphical application used to create, maintain,
and share photo albums using open formats like HTML and JPG. Two-layer
albums can be created in a drag-n-drop interface which allows quick and
easy arrangement and categorization of photos. A few simple image
manipulations such as rotation and flipping are provided to help get
photos presentable as quickly as possible. Photos, subalbums, and albums
themselves can be labeled as needed and modified at a later time by saving
and loading from a simple XML format.
Changes: Importing and rotating (now lossless) photos is several times
faster. Many bugs have been fixed after an entire month of solid testing
by over 18 dedicated beta testers. Internationalization support has
improved leaps and bounds, in part thanks to the new help system that
comes with this release. Photo editing has been rewritten. You can quickly
crop to standard dimensions, correct for tilt, enhance color and contrast,
remove red-eye, adjust levels, brightness, and contrast, blur or sharpen
an image, or apply several image manipulations.

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio
About: amaroK is a sound system-independent audio-player for Unix. Its
interface uses a powerful "browser" metaphor that allows you to create
playlists that make the most of your music collection.
Changes: New features include theming support, making it possible to style
the context browser with your favorite designs, and a new graphical control
script for the equalizer. There are bugfixes for the GStreamer backend,
which can now play Vorbis radio streams with full metadata support. The
LibVisual support has been fixed, and several other improvements have been
made.

About: The AspectC++ project realizes an AspectJ-like approach for aspect
oriented programming with C/C++. It provides an AspectC++ translator to
weave AspectC++ code with C/C++ code.
Changes: This release fixes a severe bug in the Win32 version of ac++,
which caused a crash if the parser configuration contained --ptrdiff-type
or --size-type. The ag++ wrapper has been improved and fixed.

by John Bowman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcbowman/)

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: Asymptote is a powerful script-based vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. It is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program, allowing it to exploit the best
features of script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI)
methods. High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language
itself, allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.
Changes: This release generalizes the secondary axes routines to handle
arbitrary (e.g. logarithmic) scalings. The tick division routines were
also improved. Crowded logarithmic axes are now thinned, just like linear
axes. The math routine extension was replaced with a robust and efficient
parametric solver. Image support in the pstoedit asy backend was fixed.
The error and interrupt handling in interactive mode was improved, and
several new functions (scroll, cd, Jn, Yn) were added.

Security
About: The Auditor security collection is a live-system based on KNOPPIX.
It provides tools for analyzing the security of a system. It features a
menu structure that reflects the stages of a security check:
foot-printing, analysis, scanning, wireless, brute-forcing, cracking. In
addition to about 300 security tools, the collection includes background
information regarding standard configuration and passwords, truly
extensive word lists, and more mundane productivity tools.
Changes: Some of the boot framebuffer pictures were removed, leaving only
the kanotix bootsplash. The key layout selection was removed because KDE
can switch layouts on the fly. All default Knoppix/Kanotix boot parameters
now work. Sound card detection was reintroduced. The desktop was switched
to a stripped KDE installation. A new background and menu structure were
provided. New applications were included.

[006] - Autofs NG 0.4.1
by mwaychison (http://freshmeat.net/users/mwaychison/)
Mon, Mar 14th 2005 01:07
System :: Filesystems
About: Autofs NG is a Linux automounter that is intended to be completely
interoperable with autofs implementations on other Unix platforms. As
such, it supports some features that the current Linux automounters do
not. This includes direct mounts, /net (--hosts access), lazy mounting and
unmounting of hierarchical multimounts, and browsing. Autofsng also
supports the usual indirect map support available elsewhere. Maps are
supported from flat files, executable maps, NIS maps, NIS+ maps, LDAP
maps, and hesiod (DNS) filsys namespace.
Changes: This release fixed a couple bugs with working with the -hosts map
and included fixes for problems with browsing when the automounter map used
didn't exist. Several fixes were made to the init script. An RPM .spec file
for building the userspace utilities is now included.

About: BBclone is a PHP Web counter on steroids which displays individual
logs as well as aggregated data. It is a clone of Big Brother webstats,
except that it is written in PHP and it relies only on flat files (no
database needed). BBclone enables any Web site administrator to have a
very precise view of who visit the website: OS, browser, date, referring
page etc. Main features include reload resistance, hostname resolution,
proxy workaround, and blacklist.
Changes: A whois feature for getting detailed information about visitors
and a redirector for external links that erases the referrer were added.
Timestats no longer miss borders in browsers with the KHTML rendering
engine. The grabbing of search engine keywords was improved and the
Norwegian translation was updated.

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: bibEC Process Card is a class that processes credit card payments
via one of the multiple supported payment gateways. Currently, these
include Plug and Pay, Authorize.net, and ViaKlix. Changing between payment
gateways is mostly a matter of changing the class constructor parameter. It
provides a payment gateway independent API with functions for logging the
payment activity, setting authentication credentials, submitting
requests, and retrieving the results. Submissions are performed securely
when possible using SSL or Curl.
Changes: The IP parameter has been moved from USER to CUSTOMER. A debug
print has been removed. A variable name has been fixed. The example has

by mws (http://freshmeat.net/users/mws/)
Mon, Mar 14th 2005 06:04
Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries
About: C++ ResourcePool is a library which can be used to pool resources
of every kind. It can also be used as an abstraction layer by providing a
unique API for different resources of similar resource types; the most
prominent examples are SQL databases. It includes a convenient way to
access MySQL and Oracle databases in the same way, so that changing from
MySQL to Oracle or vice-versa does not need big code changes.
Changes: A new ResourceType SQL is available. It supports the SQLExecute,
SQLSelect, and SQLSelectRow commands and can connect to Oracle or MySQL
databases, configurable at runtime. Previously, changing the database type
(e.g. from MySQL to Oracle) required changing a typedef and recompiling the
application. The "old" way is still possible and has minor performance
benefits, since the "new" way is just a wrapper.

About: ctrlproxy is an IRC server with multiserver support. It runs as a
daemon and connects to a number of IRC servers, then allows you to connect
from a workstation and work as the user that is logged in to the IRC
server. After you disconnect, it maintains the connection to the server.
It acts like any normal IRC server, so you can use any IRC client to
connect to it. It supports multiple client connections to one IRC server
(under the same nick), allowing you to connect to IRC using your IRC nick,
even while you have an IRC session open somewhere else. It supports logging
(in any user-specified format), password authentication, and CTCP (in case
no clients are connected). IRC servers can be contacted over IPv6 and/or
using SSL. Automatic identification with NickServ is supported, as well as
various types of backlog.

About: Darkbot is a very fast and small IRC bot written in C. Originally
created as an aid for help channels to answer repeated questions from its
virtually unlimited database, it has became a very popular talking robot
in a generic sense, being used all over IRC networks for different
purposes and in 18 languages. Data can be added to it and managed
dynamically online or edited in its database files offline. An extensive
but easy-to-understand list of commands and features, including some
channel operation functions and levels of protection, makes Darkbot a very
flexible but somehow powerful and complex robot, with almost human
conversations and reactions.
Changes: This release fixes randq, a possible crash scenario in
do_random_stuff(), a bug that happened on BSD machines, and the Google

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
About: Dolda Webmail (or d-mail for short) is a Webmail system written in
PHP and interfacing with a back-end IMAP server. Advantages over most
other projects of a similar sort are that it uses a persistant connection
to the IMAP server (which increases performance on the Web server, reduces
load on the network and on the IMAP server, and doesn't force the Web
server to store the user's password in-core), and that it makes full use
of XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS 2.
Changes: This release features some improvements to the mailbox management
page, a translation into Japanese, an updated French translation, and the
usual maintenance changes (bugfixes, etc.).

System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
About: Dstat is a versatile replacement for vmstat, iostat, and ifstat. It
overcomes some of the limitations of these tools and adds some extra
features. It allows you to view all of your system resources instantly;
you can, for example, compare disk usage in combination with interrupts
from your IDE controller, or compare the network bandwidth numbers
directly with the disk throughput (in the same interval).
Changes: This release adds user stats, allows console output and CSV
output concurrently, fixes problems with VTE-based terminal programs
(like gnome-terminal), and includes a new backport to Python 1.5.

by Gerald Richter (http://freshmeat.net/users/richterg/)
Mon, Mar 14th 2005 23:10
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development
About: Embperl gives you the power to embed Perl code in your HTML or
XML/XSLT documents and the ability to build your Web site out of small
reusable objects in an OO-style. It can also build taglibs and use
caching. You can also take advantage of hundreds of Perl modules which
have already been written for such tasks as database access to a growing
number of database systems. Embperl has several features especially useful
for creating HTML, including dynamic tables, formfield-processing,

System :: Hardware
About: memtester is a user-space utility for testing the memory subsystem
in a computer to determine if it is faulty. It does a good job of finding
intermittent faults and non-deterministic faults. It has many tests to
help catch borderline memory. memtester should compile and run on any 32-
or 64-bit Unix or Unix-like system.
Changes: Change to the method of allocating and locking memory: if EPERM
is encountered when trying to mlock(), this release will reset the amount
of memory desired to the original amount and try again without mlock().
The reason for this is that on many systems, mlock() won't return EPERM
until after having returned ENOMEM for a larger amount. The new behaviour
allows processes without mlock privileges to still test the
fully-specified amount or as much memory as can be allocated.

[058] - OpenWFE 1.5.0
by John Mettraux (http://freshmeat.net/users/jmettraux/)
Mon, Mar 14th 2005 02:05
Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
About: OpenWFE is a workflow engine. It is robust, extensible, and
scalable. Access libraries for Python, Perl, and .NET make it easy to
write custom interfaces or agents (automatic participants) for a
workflow-enabled system.
Changes: The workflow instantiation mechanism was completely revised,
making the OpenWFE process definition language even more expressive and
powerful. Functions were heavily enhanced. The worklist now relies on a
decoupled store/storage system with get and put strategies: one can easily
supply their own storage implementation and take advantage of existing
implementations like QueryGetStrategy. The participant map service was
simplified and now relies more on regular expressions: the default
participant map could fit a lot of organizational models.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Tournament Pool and Bracket Tracker contains everything you need to
run a tournament pool. It supports small groups or organizations who wish
to provide an NCAA basketball tournament pool without a lot of
administrative work in calculating up-to-date results and possibilities.
Though it was built with the NCAA tournament in mind, it should be able to
handle most other sport tournament pools. Once a tournament is underway,
users can keep track of their progress as the administrator for a
tournament updates the results of games. Pool adminstrators can choose
from many different scoring systems.
Changes: This release added information on setting up the men's and
women's NCAA 2005 Tournaments. You can no longer edit brackets that have
been assigned to a pool for a tournament that is underway, and you can now
add a bracket to a pool directly from the edit page if the bracket is
completed. The view bracket page now computes a score using the default
score system and color codes brackets against actual results.
