System :: Boot :: Init
System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration
About: /etc/net represents a new approach to Linux network configuration
tasks. Inspired by the limitations of traditional configuration
subsystems, /etc/net provides builtin support for configuration profiles,
interface name management, removable device support, full iproute2 command
set support, interface dependency resolution, and a QoS configuration
framework. /etc/net provides support for the following interface types:
Ethernet, WiFi (WEP), IPv6/IPv6 tunnels, PSK IPSec tunnels, VLAN, PLIP,
Ethernet bonding and bridging, traffic equalizer, Pent@NET, usbnet, and
PPP. Due to its modular design, support for new interface types can be
added without overall design changes.
Changes: This release adds new options management code, resulting in a
better GUI look.

About: AbstractDB is a database abstraction layer, object oriented and
extensible via driver implementations which extend from a common base
class. This package encapsulates all of the basic functions required by
most developers without the complexity and/or utter simplicity of many
other abstraction packages.
Changes: The requirement to pass in a Hostname, Username, or Password in
the AbstractDB constructor was removed. This allows connections to be made
using the PHP defaults for the databse type.

by jeremian (http://freshmeat.net/users/jeremian/)
Tue, Mar 15th 2005 09:45
System :: Networking
About: Active port forwarder uses SSL for secure packet tunneling. It is
designed for people without an external IP who want to make some services
available on the Internet. afserver is placed on the machine with a
publicly accessible address, and afclient is placed on the machine behind
a firewall or masquerade. This makes the second machine visible to the
Internet. Running afserver does not require root priviledges, nor does it
use threads or other processes.
Changes: Large parts of the code have been rewritten. Temporary listen
ports, remote administration, and realm/client names have been added. A
lot of bugfixes and code cleanups have been made.

Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat
About: Darkbot is a very fast and small IRC bot written in C. Originally
created as an aid for help channels to answer repeated questions from its
virtually unlimited database, it has became a very popular talking robot
in a generic sense, being used all over IRC networks for different
purposes and in 18 languages. Data can be added to it and managed
dynamically online or edited in its database files offline. An extensive
but easy-to-understand list of commands and features, including some
channel operation functions and levels of protection, makes Darkbot a very
flexible but somehow powerful and complex robot, with almost human
conversations and reactions.
Changes: An unneeded line in main.c that was used to "hide" warnings on
Win32 was removed. randq was fixed. A warning that came up in permbans.c
about mixing types when compiling on OS X was fixed. A number formatting
error was fixed. The configure script now checks for clock_t. It also
checks for snprintf, and uses a replacement if it's not found. The
original configure script is now located in the scripts directory, and is
called "Setup". Makefile.ams and configure.ac were added for
autoconf/automake.

is generated in a completely automatic way starting from a conceptual
description of the database by means of an XML-based description language
for entity-relationship schemata. From the same description, you can also
automatically obtain diagrams and documentation. ERW can be used for
content management, in particular when the data is structured along
complex relations.

Communications
Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: GeboGebo is a wiki system written for tdbengine. It stores all data
in a local database structure and thus provides an indexed fulltext search.
It uses a simple syntax, and has user lists, pages history, a missing pages
list, and a recent changes list. Image and file upload are possible, but
can be disabled. This allows it to work as a small document management
system. A blacklist allows you to lock existing pages from being edited or
new pages from being created. It can also be run in static mode, where all
pages are additionally held as static HTML pages.
Changes: InterWiki linking is now supported via an intermap.txt file. This
allows easy linking to other wikis on the Web. Saving a page is no longer
possible without editing it beforehand. This is to avoid malicious edits
(or deletes) by anonymous people. HTML tags can be disabled or enabled for
the entire wiki via a new option in the configuration file.

algebra stuff (shortest path, minimum spanning tree), and a number of
useful utilities (mostly cleaned-up code from JGraphpad) for JGraph, a
Java Graph Visualization library.
Changes: Improvements have been made to the spring layout, and the tree
layout now maintains the position of the root node by default. A new base
class for animated cells and a swimlane cell view have been contributed by
the community. A default comparator has been put in the ordered tree layout
so levels can be laid out in a deterministic fashion. A number of minor

Tue, Mar 15th 2005 15:17
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
About: jo! is a pure Java Web server that implements the Servlet API, JSP,
and HTTP/1.1. It features support for servlet tag, support for SSI,
advanced thread management, virtual hosts, memory-sensitive file cache,
authentication using a role abstraction, automatic compressed transfer of
text or HTML files, auto internationalization, auto servlet and JSP
reloading, auto reload of WARs, hot deployment of WARs, and an easy-to-use
Swing console.
Changes: This release features some UI enhancements, most importantly
clickable filenames in the log panel. This allows JSP developers to simply
click on the error message in the log to open the offending Java or JSP
file (so far Windows and Mac OS only). It also indicates the exact line
number in the Java files as well as the JSP file. Log messages are now
color-coded by importance. Under the hood, Java 5 (aka JDK 1.5)
compatibility was improved, and the now dispensable DOM implementation was
removed.

[042] - libtiff 3.7.2
by Andrey Kiselev (http://freshmeat.net/users/DronK/)
Tue, Mar 15th 2005 09:45
Software Development :: Libraries
About: libtiff provides support for the Tag Image File Format (TIFF), a
widely used format for storing image data. The latest version of the TIFF
specification is available on-line in several different formats, as are a
number of TIFF Technical Notes (TTN's). Included in this software
distribution is a library, libtiff, for reading and writing TIFF, a small
collection of tools for doing simple manipulations of TIFF images on UNIX
systems, and documentation on the library and tools. A small assortment of
TIFF-related software for UNIX that has been contributed by others is also
included. The library, along with associated tool programs, should handle
most of your needs for reading and writing TIFF images on 32- and 64-bit
machines.
Changes: This maintenance release fixes many problems in the library code
and supplied tools. The C++ code has been split into a separate library,
so packagers can avoid unnecessary dependencies on the C++ compiler.

by Bastian Kleineidam (http://freshmeat.net/users/calvin/)
Tue, Mar 15th 2005 11:12
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management :: Link Checking
About: With LinkChecker, you can check HTML documents for broken links. It
features recursion, robots.txt exclusion protocol support, HTTP proxy
support, i18n support, multithreading, regular expression filtering rules
for links, and user/password checking for authorized pages. Output can be
colored or normal text, HTML, SQL, CSV, or a sitemap graph in DOT, GML, or
XML format. Supported link types are HTTP/1.1 and 1.0, HTTPS, FTP, mailto:,
news:, nntp:, Gopher, Telnet, and local files.
Changes: This release runs as a background task with low process priority.
A new --priority option has been added to run it with normal process
priority. The new --no-proxy-for option allows you to specify hosts that
should be contacted directly without any proxy, regardless of the current
proxy configuration. If the python-geoip module and a local GeoIP database
are found, the GeoIP country information will be added to the log output of
a URL. Quoted as well as unquoted URLs in CSS files are now correctly
parsed. A bug causing false positives in HTTP redirections has been fixed.

[064] - Ruby/LDAP 0.9.1
by Ian Macdonald (http://freshmeat.net/users/ianmacd/)
Tue, Mar 15th 2005 13:59
Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries :: Ruby Modules
System :: Systems Administration
About: Ruby/LDAP is an extension module for Ruby that provides the
interface to LDAP libraries such as OpenLDAP, UMich LDAP, Netscape SDK,
and Active Directory. It supports libraries that comply with the common
API for application development described in RFC1823.
Changes: In this release, LDAP::Entry#[] is now an alias for LDAP::
Entry#get_values. Conn#compare and Conn#compare_ext now return either
true or false. If an LDAP::Conn or LDAP:: SSLConn connection becomes
unbound, calling #bind, #simple_bind or #sasl_bind now reconnects to the
server using the original parameters. Invoking LDAP:: Conn#sasl_bind now
sets the LDAP protocol to v3 if it is not already so. This is required
for a SASL bind. LDAP:: Conn#sasl_bind did not detect attempts to bind
more than once. This is now done. More unit tests, bugfixes, and
documentation fixes are also included.

[065] - samhain 2.0.5
by rainer (http://freshmeat.net/users/rainer/)
Tue, Mar 15th 2005 11:06
Security
About: samhain is a daemon that can check file integrity, search the file
tree for SUID files, and detect kernel module rootkits (Linux only). It
can be used either standalone or as a client/server system for centralized
monitoring, with strong (192-bit AES) encryption for client/server
connections and the option to store databases and configuration files on
the server. For tamper resistance, it supports signed
database/configuration files and signed reports/audit logs. It has been
tested on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, and Unixware.
Changes: A bug in the server has been fixed that could lead to timeouts in
client/server connections. The '--enable-mounts-check' option is supported
on HP/UX now, a bug with the '--enable-ptrace' option on Linux/x86_64 has
been fixed, and the SMTP code sets the domain part of the sender address
to 'example.com' if the host cannot self-resolve.

[069] - Stunnix CXX-Obfus 2.3
by Stunnix (http://freshmeat.net/users/stunnix/)
Tue, Mar 15th 2005 13:53
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Pre-processors
System :: Software Distribution
About: Stunnix CXX-Obfus is a code obfuscator for C and C++ source code.
It converts source code into highly a mangled form, making it extremely
difficult for competitors or customers to study, analyze, reuse, and
re-work, while fully retaining functionality of the original code. It has
many options to control all aspects of code hiding, and has full support
for all syntax constructs. It is designed for multi-file projects with
mixed C and C++ source and arbitrary heavy use of the C preprocessor. It
includes advanced tools to exclude API symbols from mangling.
Changes: The ability to transform comments was added (e.g. it allows
replace all non-white characters in them with 'x'). Several great
improvements in support for rare syntax constructs were made. A lot of
functionality and improvements were added to Project Manager, and a GUI
for CXX-Obfus was implemented as a site running under the Stunnix Perl
Web Server.

[070] - Sylpheed 1.9.6 (Development)
by Hiroyuki Yamamoto (http://freshmeat.net/users/hiroy/)
Tue, Mar 15th 2005 06:37
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
About: Sylpheed is a GTK+ based, lightweight, and fast email client.
Almost all commands are accessible with the keyboard. It also has many
features such as multiple accounts, POP3/APOP support, thread display, and
multipart MIME. One of Sylpheed's future goals is to be fully
internationalized. The messages are managed in the MH format, so you'll be
able to use it together with another mailer that uses the MH format.
Changes: Multiple files can now be attached to the composition window all
at once. In the file selection dialog, the most recently opened
directories are now remembered for each operation. Inline images are now
resized to fit the window. "Save this image as..." was added to the
context menu of inline images. The PLAIN authentication method was
implemented for SMTP AUTH. A workaround was made for a huge slow-down when
displaying extremely long lines. Error checking of code conversion on
sending was made strict. Several bugfixes were made.

by Tiger Privacy (http://freshmeat.net/users/tigerprivacy/)
Tue, Mar 15th 2005 11:07
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Security :: Cryptography
About: Tiger Envelopes makes cryptography work with almost any email
software. It is a personal mail proxy server with automatic encryption.
Tiger uses SMTP and POP3 to work with almost any mail client, crypto
plugins to work with almost any type of cryptography, and Java to run on
almost any operating system. Plugins for Bouncy Castle, GPG, and PGP are
included.
Changes: Now works on Windows. The installer automatically installs GPG on
Mac OS and Windows. Linux users don't need this since major Linux
distributions make it easy to install GPG. Sun has fixed long standing
crucial bugs in Java version 1.5. Don't use Sun java versions earlier than
1.5.0_01 on Linux or Windows. Mac OS comes preinstalled with Apple's Java
1.4.x, which works reliably with Tiger Envelopes. The Envelopes installers
for Linux and Windows automatically install Java 1.5 for you. This version
also fixes a major bug in the BC plugin.
