[001] - Agata Report 7 beta 001 (Stable)
  by Olivier Berger (http://freshmeat.net/users/oberger/)
  Wed, Mar 16th 2005 15:34

Database :: Front-Ends

About: Agata Report is a cross-platform database reporting tool with graph
generation and a query tool like Crystal Reports that allows you to get
data from PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, DB2, MS-SQL, Informix, InterBase,
Sybase, or Frontbase and export that data as PostScript, plain text, HTML,
XML, PDF, or spreadsheet (CSV) formats through its graphical interface. You
can also define levels, subtotals, and a grand total for the report, merge
the data into a document, generate address labels, or even generate a
complete ER-diagram from your database. You can also develop reports using
your PHP-GTK interface and then call them using the Agata API from an
Apache or IIS-based Web application.

Communications :: BBS

About: alph implements and analyzes historical and traditional ciphers and
codes, such as polyalphabetic, susbstitutional, and mixed employing
human-reconstructable algorithms. It provides a pipe filter interface in
order to encrypt and decrypt block text to acheive transparency. The
program is meant to be used in conjunction with external programs that
transfer data, resulting in transparent encryption or decryption of
information. The program can thus be used as a mail filter, IRC filter, IM
filter, and so on.

Changes: MORSE code was implemented and is available for ciphering. The
BIFID code was temporarily suspended.

[003] - ATA over Ethernet driver for Linux 2.6-7
by Ed Cashin at Coraid (http://freshmeat.net/users/ecashinCoraid/)
  Wed, Mar 16th 2005 09:27

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: This driver allows the Linux kernel to use the ATA over Ethernet
(AoE) network protocol. Using AoE, a Linux system can use AoE block
devices like EtherDrive (R) storage blades. The block devices appear as
local device nodes (e.g. /dev/etherd/e0.0).

Changes: Support for multiple AoE targets with the same MAC address was
completed. For compatibility with older 2.6 kernels, the new endian-marked
types were replaced with old-style fixed-size unsigned types. The
documentation was updated.

[006] - Burn until recorded now! 0.4.3
  by bigpaul (http://freshmeat.net/users/bigpaul/)
  Wed, Mar 16th 2005 15:35

About: Burn (burn until recorded now!) is a simple command-line program
whose aim is to make it easy and quick to burn CDs/DVDs. Burn is able to
create an Audio CD from .ogg, .mp3, and .wav files. It can copy CDs,
create data CDs/DVDs, or create a CD/DVD from an existing ISO image. It
features the ability to measure the size of the data to be burned, as well
as the amount of space needed for temporary files. It warns if the target
CD/DVD is too small, can perform simulation burns, and can eject the
CD/DVD when done.

Changes: Many bugs have been closed. -x computes excluded data size and
subtract it from the total size. msinfo cdrecord parsing has been fixed.
Now an empty media check is done only with a CD-writing command. No check
for -e and -h options. Audio file names are now escaped before cdrecord
(this avoids problems with characters like " ' ".

  Wed, Mar 16th 2005 10:58

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

About: Connect Daily, a Web-based calendaring system, allows multiple
users to add and edit calendar events using a Web browser. The calendar
display can be directly integrated into your Web site. It provides
advanced capabilities for managing resources and facilities. The approval
processes allow many users to edit calendars, with the assurance that all
items added are approved. It supports event download to MS Outlook and
Palm OS PDAs. Export to iCal clients like KOrganizer, Evolution, and Apple
iCal is supported. Authentication to LDAP directories is also supported.

Changes: Improved calendar display speed by a factor of 50-100 when show
resources is turned on. Repair security now deletes user level permissions
that duplicate those assigned to the user through group membership. For
Month View, the user preference was overriding the URL argument of
show_resources, or the cookie value. Attachment upload code failed if the
event name contained a single quote. The add existing file screen can now
be re-sized during use. A bug has been fixed that could cause an exception
during save if a resource was selected, the end date was already passed,
and the start date was blank.

[015] - DataVision 0.9.2
  by jimm (http://freshmeat.net/users/jimm/)
  Wed, Mar 16th 2005 00:07

Database :: Front-Ends
Office/Business
Software Development

About: DataVision is a reporting tool similar to Crystal Reports, written
in Java. It supports multiple data sources (JDBC, text files) and output
formats (HTML, XML, PDF, LaTeX, comma- and tab-separated data files, and
DocBook). It lets you design reports with a drag-and-drop GUI. Report
descriptions are stored as XML.

Changes: This release adds a Formula Languages item in the Report menu
that brings up a dialog for editing the report's scripting languages. It
also adds a "Scripting Language" drop-down menu to the formula editor,
startup formula, and suppression proc dialogs. It changes "ruby" to
"Ruby" as the language name in all example XML files and in
Scripting.java. There is documentation for the new and changed dialogs. A
problem with table object lookup which caused an IllegalAccessException
error when dragging fields onto the report was fixed.

  Wed, Mar 16th 2005 00:13

Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Systems Administration

About: DB Solo is a powerful database development and management tool for
developers and DBAs. It has an intuitive user interface that allows you
to explore and manage your database objects as well as execute ad-hoc
queries. It supports Oracle, MySQL, Sybase, DB2, and MS SQL Server. In
addition to viewing and managing objects such as schemas, tables,
indexes, views, tablespaces, users, roles, sessions, and stored
procedures, you can view, edit, print, and export data from tables or the
results of queries. You can also graphically view foreign key
relationships.

Changes: This release features an XML Viewer in the detail panel of the
Query Window that allows you to view XML data in a tree format as well as
text format. The XML data can be in any string column (VARCHAR, CLOB) or
Oracle XMLType column. An ASN.1 viewer was added which can show ASN.1
data in a tree format. The ASN.1 data can be in a BLOB column or
VARCHAR/CLOB column as Base64/PEM encoded string. DB2 Type 2 JDBC Driver
is now supported, which allows you to use your local native DB2 client
settings to connect to the server. Support for Oracle XMLType was added,
so you can now view/update XMLType columns in Oracle.

list of servers that can be cross referenced by location, manufacturer,
vendor, CPU, and OS. It allows for a user to create and maintain
locations, manufacturers, and vendors along with contact names and phone
numbers to each. It contains a device log that tracks issues that servers
have had, a list of network ports on the server along with IP information
(IP, subnet, gateway, DNS, network card make/model and MAC) for each port
(this includes aliased ports), and a software manager that keeps tabs on
expiration dates of software. It enables the user to create a directory
tree with files that can then be attached to locations, vendors,
manufacturers, software, or servers. It maintains a list of all software
installed on a server and how many licenses are allocated to it. A Perl
script run from cron emails users when a license is about to expire.

Changes: Software display under servers has been fixed. 'No License' has
been added to licence types. 'OS Independent' has been added to OS Types.
Descriptions have been added to servers. Links to Software and Server have
been added.

[023] - Euphoria 2.5
  by Robert Craig (http://freshmeat.net/users/rhc/)
  Wed, Mar 16th 2005 11:17

Software Development :: Compilers

About: Euphoria is a simple, flexible, easy-to-learn programming language.
It lets you quickly and easily develop programs for Linux, FreeBSD, DOS,
and Windows. Although Euphoria provides subscript checking, uninitialized
variable checking and numerous other run-time checks, it is extremely
fast. It also includes a complete reference manual.

Changes: The Euphoria interpreter is now completely free, and an open
source, public domain version of the interpreter, written in Euphoria
itself, is provided. An exception handling feature was added, along with
streamlined syntax for subscripting and slicing. Numerous other bugfixes,
optimizations, and small enhancements have been made in the 1 1/2 years
since the last major release.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: FOX is a C++-based toolkit for GUI development. It includes a rich
set of widgets and has powerful yet simple layout managers, MDI widgets,
and mega-widgets. FOX incorporates support for XDND for drag and drop, X
clipboard and X Selection, watching other I/O channels and sockets, timers
and idle processing, object serialization and deserialization, a registry
to save persistent settings, and 3D widgets using Mesa or OpenGL. FOX
works on Linux, IRIX, Solaris, HP/UX, AIX, Tru64 Unix, Windows 9x,NT,2K
(VC++, GNUWIN32, Borland, VisualAge C++), FreeBSD, and Sequent.

Changes: FXUndoList should account for FXCommandGroup when
FXUndoList::end() is called, and not at the beginning when FXCommandGroup
is still empty. Also, the library incorrectly accounted for size changes
when merging undo records. Adding an undo command should only change the
size when it's committed, i.e. either at an add() of a simple command at
the toplevel or an end() of a compound command at the toplevel.

  by John McCaskey (http://freshmeat.net/users/jmccaskey/)
  Wed, Mar 16th 2005 11:05

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: mcache is a PHP extension providing an easy to use object- oriented
API for caching data to memcache-based servers. The extension is based on
the libmemcache C API, and is extremely fast. It has full support for
multiple servers as well. As such the extension is both faster, and more
feature full than the PECL standard memcache extension.

Changes: Memory usage has been fixed so that the memory for each get/set
request is freed immediately, resulting in a smaller memory footprint when
performing many gets/sets in a single page load. Previously, the cleanup
would occur at the very end of the page load, and memory usage would
increase with each get/set request that required serialization of a
complex object.

components without much need for writing code to glue all this together.
The administration site gets built automatically by using those
components. Goodies like a caching engine and subrequests make site
building even easier.

Changes: This is the first integration build for the upcoming 2.4 release,
featuring: a full-scale on-demand indexing daemon based on Lucene, generic
metadata handling including integration into the navigation subsystem,
advanced base classes to ease component authoring, a completely reworked

its features include syntax highlighting, editing multiple documents at
once, printing and print preview, find/ replace/find in files dialogs,
undo/redo, and online help.

Changes: Menu items to increase or decrease the sizes of all fonts in the
text areas simultaneously were added. Support was added for 3rd party Look
and Feels. A Japanese translation was added. The Italian translation was
updated to have correct mnemonics. The time/date stamp action (F5) now
inserts a localized time/date stamp. A bug where a silent exception would
be thrown if you tried to print when no print services were available was
fixed. Changes were made to the internal workings of localization.

About: sdelta analyzes two files and outputs the difference. It applies
the difference or delta file to the first of the original files to
construct a bit for bit clone of the second file. It is optimized for use
with source tarballs, and also contains sdreq, the client for the sdelta
Public Patch Repository. The PPR can generate on demand source upgrade and
downgrade patches for over 250,000 version specific source tarballs. By
using sdreq you can acquire new source tarballs from the PPR several times
faster and with only 15% of the downloading that you currently do.

Changes: This release provides improved matching of have source tarballs
with wanted source tarballs in sdreq, the client for the sdelta Public
Patch Repository. Oddly named sources with their version in between the
base filename such as X11R${VERSION}-src2.tar will be properly matched.
X11R6.8.2-src2.tar is matched with an old source of X11R6.8.0-src2.tar
instead of X11R6.8.0-src1.tar. Also program-1.9.tar will be selected as a
suitable matching old source for program-1.10.tar instead of
program-1.1.tar.

[102] - Umbrella 0.6
  by Kristian Sørensen (http://freshmeat.net/users/ipqw/)
  Wed, Mar 16th 2005 06:50

Security

About: Umbrella is a security mechanism that implements a combination of
Process-Based Access Control (PBAC) and authentication of binaries through
Digital Signed Binaries (DSB). The scheme is designed for Linux-based
consumer electronic devices ranging from mobile phones to set-top boxes.
Umbrella is implemented on top of the Linux Security Modules (LSM)
framework. The PBAC scheme is enforced by a set of restrictions on each
process. This policy is distributed with a binary in form of execute
restrictions and within the program via a "restricted fork" feature.

Changes: Complete integration with GNU Privacy Guard to authenticate
binaries was implemented. Use of hash tables for storing restrictions has
been replaced by the FSR data structure, which mimics the "dentry" structs
in the kernel. The Umbrella system call was eliminated and completely
replaced by a /proc filesystem interface. The Umbrella code is now
completely independent of all architectures and kernel subversions.

Utilities

About: ZipLock is a tool for protecting sensitive data. It uses a
combination of public-private key encryption and secret key encryption.
ZipLock provides a variety of secret key encryption algorithms, including
the Advanced Encryption Standard and two of the other finalists for the
AES: Serpent and TwoFish. In addition to the extensive encryption support,
ZipLock also features comprehensive support for compressing your data.
ZipLock allows you to compress and view files using Zip, Jar, Tar, and
Gzip.

Changes: MIME support was added for mapping file types to the applications
used to launch them. The ZipLock Text Viewer was added for viewing the
contents of files. Support was added for decrypting and viewing encrypted
files within archives. The user interface was enhanced to reduce pop-ups,
which allows you to continue to use the application while performing time
consuming operations such as creating a new archive. The help system was
updated and the preferences dialog for managing MIME types was added.
