About: Acovea implements a genetic algorithm for finding the "best"
options for compiling programs with the GCC C and C++ compilers. "Best",
in this context, is defined as those options that produce the fastest
executable program from a given source code. The framework can be extended
to other programming languages and non-GCC compilers. It is also useful for
testing combinations of flags for pessimistic interactions, and for testing
the reliability of the compiler.

Information Management
Multimedia :: Graphics
Office/Business :: Financial :: Point-Of-Sale
About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript, so that the process of
converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the
printer itself. This avoids the need to re-implement the barcode
generation process whenever your language needs change. The project
supports most major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E,
ISBN, Code 128 (A, B, and C), Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Postnet, Code 2
of 5, and Codabar.
Changes: The default textpos for EAN-2 and EAN-5 was changed so that it
is now a function of the supplied height. Delimiter comments were added
around the encoders so that the file can be easily parsed as a template.

About: The Bazaar Revision Control System is a changeset-oriented
revision control system based on Arch that makes it possible to retain
previous changes to projects and coordinate development with other
developers. Its goal is to speed development of an upwards- compatible
version of Arch.
Changes: 'annotate', 'upgrade' and 'change-archive' commands were added
and many performance improvements were made. Comands now work relative to
project trees. URL support for commands was implemented. -A is no longer
necessary for many commands. 'id' and 'inventory' with 'names tagging' now
return IDs consistant with changesets. A debug() function was added for
developers. New archive registration management was implemented along with
namespace improvements (@ in username for SFTP, spaces for revlib paths,
and Debian version numbers).

Tue, Apr 12th 2005 11:10
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: The most important change is a fix for a bug first introduced in
0.50.9 that caused some file contents to be unchanged during update
operations. There are also a couple of performance improvements and
several incrementally updated features. In particular, progress indication
is improved, you can create and apply changesets that remove troves from
your system, and rq --info output was improved.

About: Cutlass is a cross-platform system for secure peer to peer
communication, oriented towards small groups. It provides VoIP, IM and
file transfer. A major design goal is to be easy to use, even by
non-security conscious users.
Changes: Directory server capability has been added to the library,
although not well integrated into the clients yet. To support the
directory servers, the transport layer has been modified to support
request-response transactions. This breaks backwards compatibility. A new
test suite has been added. Multiple bugfixes and a rewrite of the

About: Dictator is a program for on-screen reading of text files,
developed with the intention of making it easier to read some of the fine
electronic texts available on the net, such as those produced by The
Gutenberg Project. The problem with these texts is that reading them on
screen is not particularly pleasant and printing them out is even less
pleasant. Dictator employs the Rapid Serial Visual Projection (RSVP)
method of displaying words consecutively in the same place, at a
user-controllable rate. In theory, this method prevents unconscious
re-reading of adjacent text and decreases the tendency of the reader to
oralise the text, allowing for increased reading speeds. It also allows
the use of larger fonts for text display which improves text clarity.

About: lesspipe.sh is an input filter for the pager less as described in
less's man page. The script runs under a ksh-compatible shell (ksh, bash,
zsh) and allows you to use less to view files with binary content,
compressed files, archives, and files contained in archives. Viewing files
by accessing a device file is implemented to some extent (DOS filesystems
and tar files). It supports many formats (both as plain and compressed
files using compress, gzip, bzip2, or zip). Syntax highlighting for many
languages is available through a helper script, "code2color".
Changes: This version adds a testsuite for lesspipe.sh. The configure
script that tailors lesspipe to the underlying system has been enhanced.
Many minor bugfixes and documentation enhancements were made. This
version now successfully works with pdksh and now correctly processes
filenames containing white space (useful for Windows users). Support for
the display of "perl storable" files has been added.

[100] - Sylpheed 1.9.8 (Development)
by Hiroyuki Yamamoto (http://freshmeat.net/users/hiroy/)
Tue, Apr 12th 2005 08:32
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
About: Sylpheed is a GTK+ based, lightweight, and fast email client.
Almost all commands are accessible with the keyboard. It also has many
features such as multiple accounts, POP3/APOP support, thread display, and
multipart MIME. One of Sylpheed's future goals is to be fully
internationalized. The messages are managed in the MH format, so you'll be
able to use it together with another mailer that uses the MH format.
Changes: The filter preferences dialog, the edit account dialog, and the
folderview were reimplemented using GtkTreeView. Auto-scroll on DnD was
implemented. GBK encoding is supported. The broken PLAIN authentication
for SMTP AUTH was fixed. A workaround was made for some SMTP servers which
terminate the connection right after a QUIT command is sent. Clear-signed
messages are not MIME-encoded anymore. The line-wrapping of the
composition window was modified not to screw up itemized lines.

harddrive. It will run DOS 6.22, Win 3.1, Win9x, WinNT/2000/XP/2003,
Linux, Novell, and more. The only main requirement is a 400 MHz or better
machine, along with lots of RAM (128M minimum, 256M recommended).
Changes: Team features were added. Multiple snapshot and snapshot
management capabilities as well as cloning functionality were added.
Performance was improved, especially for multiple virtual machines and
networking workloads, for suspend and resume, for snapshot operations, and
for shared folders and sound. Host and guest OS support was expanded,
especially for 64-bit OSs. Support for isochronous USB input devices was
added. A command line interface enabling the automation of certain manual
steps was added. A movie of the virtual machine can now be recorded.

About: X-Plane is a flight simulator that reads in the geometric shape of
any aircraft and then figures out how that aircraft will fly. It does this
via an engineering process called "blade element theory", which involves
breaking the aircraft down into many small elements and then finding the
forces on each little element many times per second. These forces are then
converted into accelerations, which are then integrated to velocities and
positions. This gives X-Plane the most realistic flight model available
for personal computers.
