Software Development :: Version Control

About: ArX is a flexible, high performance, distributed revision control
system featuring whole-tree atomic changesets, easy branching, and
sophisticated merging. ArX has always been self hosting.

Changes: The licensing problems with the Boost libraries have been fixed,

that you can tag the latest revision of a particular branch (floating
tags), instead of just one particular revision. Plain old HTTP support
has been fixed and streamlined. "merge", "fork", "export", and "diff"
have seen minor changes. The manual has seen a number of improvements.

[011] - Cgiapp.class.php 1.6.3
  by Matthew Weier O'Phinney (http://freshmeat.net/users/weierophinney/)
  Fri, May 6th 2005 09:43

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: Cgiapp.class.php is a port of CGI::Application to PHP. It utilizes
Smarty as its default templating engine, much as CGI::Application uses
HTML::Template, due to its prevalence and acceptance in the PHP community.
Due to PHP's built-in session support, it also adds two methods, s_param()
and s_delete(), to handle session parameters. A number of static methods
have also been included to facilitate error handling and array/hash
conversion.

Changes: load_tmpl()'s behavior changed in the 1.6.x series, and required
that the $_TEMPLATE object be a Smarty instance. This release now has
load_tmpl() check simply for the $_TEMPLATE to be an object with a fetch()
method, giving backwards compatibility with previous releases.

[013] - Codeville 0.1.11
  by Yanestra (http://freshmeat.net/users/yanestra/)
  Fri, May 6th 2005 21:17

Software Development :: Version Control

About: Codeville is a distributed version control system. It began with a
novel idea for a merge algorithm and has grown from there. It is designed
to be easy to use and scales from small personal projects to very large
distributed ones.

Changes: Scanning of the filesystem was optimised. 'cdv init' was
introduced. urandom is now used if present, and Python 2.4 on Windows no
longer requires the windrandom.pyd file. 'cdv construct' is now a little
more robust. The history format was changed to not allow implicit merges.
Fancy new O(n * log(n)) match code replaced the old O(n^3) implementation.
zlib level 6 is now used instead of 9. .cdv is now used as the metadata
directory instead of CVILLE. The cdvupgrade script was modified to work on
both clients and servers. The repository format was versioned. The license
was changed to BSD and many bugfixes were made.

[020] - dsproxy 0.2.17.4
  by Christian Wolff (http://freshmeat.net/users/scarabaeus/)
  Fri, May 6th 2005 09:24

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Capture/Recording

About: dsproxy emulates an OSS device that "virtualizes" itself so each
UID that opens /dev/dsp gets its own private sound device. At this point,
simultaneous reading of /dev/dsp by another process "samples" the data out
of dsproxy. The tagged audio data and ioctls stream may be saved to disk
locally as the example program does, retargeted over a network, pushed
into an effects generator (3-D sound), etc. The virtualization feature is
a stepping stone to adding sound to VNC on a per-desktop basis with each
user appearing to have total control over /dev/dsp. Most OSS ioctls are
implemented, so applications such as xmame and rvplayer7 may be retargeted
through dsproxy.

[021] - Efax-gtk 3.0.0 (Stable)
  by Chris Vine (http://freshmeat.net/users/cvine/)
  Fri, May 6th 2005 23:58

About: Efax-gtk provides a GUI frontend for the efax fax program. It
interfaces with efax directly, replacing the scripts supplied with efax,
and can be used for receiving and sending faxes, and for viewing,
printing, and managing faxes which have been received and sent. It also
has a socket interface that provides a "virtual printer" for sending faxes
from word processors and similar programs, and can automatically e-mail a
received fax to a designated user and automatically print a received fax.

Changes: The dependency on gtkmm was removed. Now only GTK+-2.* and
libsigc++ are required. An Albanian translation was added and the Russian
and Polish translations were updated. A prompt is now brought up correctly
when deleting a file in the file list. The code was tidied up.

wish to quickly develop advanced applications. Its main influences are
Joy, Forth, and Lisp. Factor offers an extensible postfix syntax,
polymorphism through predicate-based dynamic dispatch, a variety of data
structures, a powerful math library, a C library interface, an HTTP server
and Web framework, and SDL graphics bindings. The implementation consists
of a runtime written in C and a library written in Factor. A plugin for
the jEdit text editor offers a very powerful integrated development
environment.

Changes: The C library interface now functions on Linux/PPC and Mac OS X,
and there is improved documentation, improved sequences library, a new
matrices library, a new HTTP client library, a new lazy lists and parser
combinators library, and better development tools.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: getmail is intended as a simple, secure, and reliable replacement
for fetchmail. It retrieves email (either all messages, or only unread
messages) from one or more POP3, SPDS, or IMAP4 servers (with or without
SSL) for one or more email accounts, and reliably delivers into
qmail-style Maildirs, mboxrd files, or through external MDAs (command
deliveries) specified on a per-account basis. getmail also has excellent
support for domain (multidrop) mailboxes, including delivering messages to
different users or destinations based on the envelope recipient address.

Changes: This release (again) changes handling of deleted messages with a
connection that dies and improves housekeeping of old message state files.
The inability to send QUIT to POP3 server should be less problematic now.

[047] - Mauve 1.2.1
  by Aaron Darling (http://freshmeat.net/users/darling/)
  Fri, May 6th 2005 02:33

Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics

About: Mauve constructs global multiple alignments of rearranged genome
sequences. It also provides an interactive display of multi-species
sequence conservation and any annotated features in those genomes. It can
be applied for sequence comparison of both finished or incomplete genomes
in multiple contigs. The resulting display is useful for identifying
functional chromosomal regions under selective pressure and for performing
ortholog assignment based on conserved gene order. Mauve writes global
alignments in eXtended Multi-FastA (XMFA) format, a phylogenetic guide
tree in Newick format, and the location of genomic islands. It identifies
the breakpoints of genomic rearrangement and can provide a reduction of
the genomes to a signed permutation matrix suitable for inference of
rearrangement history.

Changes: Links to annotated feature information in external databases now
appear as a popup menu upon clicking an annotated feature. Either Clustal
or MUSCLE can be selected for gapped alignment. Preliminary support for
editing the underlying sequence alignments has been added.

[072] - sg_utils and sg3_utils 1.14 (Linux 2.4)
  by Douglas Gilbert (http://freshmeat.net/users/dpgilbert/)
  Fri, May 6th 2005 02:35

About: sg_utils and sg3_utils are packages that contain tools for working
with devices that use the SCSI command set. They include variants of the
Unix dd command called sg_dd and sgp_dd that speed copies to, from, and
between SCSI disks and CDROMs. sg_map and sg_scan supply information about
SCSI devices and how they are related to other drivers. There are utilities
for timing and testing SCSI devices and retrieving mode and log page data.
The sg3_utils package is for the Linux 2.4 and 2.6 series, while sg_utils
is for the 2.2 series with some support for the 2.0 series.

Changes: This version adds a utility to read a media serial number. It
refactors the binary RPM into libsgutils and sg3_utils RPMs (similarly
for binary deb packages). It also updates various utilities in accord
with recent changes in the SCSI draft standards.

[074] - subPersistence 0.9.0
  by Maik Schreiber (http://freshmeat.net/users/blizzy/)
  Fri, May 6th 2005 21:13

Database

About: subPersistence is an abstract, light-weight, yet flexible framework
for working with O/R persistence mappers. It provides for independence of a
specific O/R mapper such as Hibernate or Castor. While you can use
Hibernate or Castor (or other O/R mappers) directly, coupling your
application too tightly to those can be a bad thing. subPersistence makes
it easy to switch underlying O/R mappers, thereby decoupling the
application layer from those. It abstracts away differences between the
mappers, while still making it possible to use their specific features if
needed.

Changes: This release changed the priority of
SelfContainedTransactionContextRunner to use the same priority as the
thread that spawned it. A new TransactionContextPersistenceMapperFactory
that is aware of an outer TransactionContext which is used to cache
PersistenceMappers was added.

character offset of each character, its byte offset, its hex code value,
its encoding, the glyph itself, and its name. Command line options allow
undesired information to be suppressed and the Unicode range to be added.
unidesc reports the character ranges to which different portions of the
