[001] - Advanced Bash Scripting Guide 3.4 (Stable)
by M. Leo Cooper (http://freshmeat.net/users/thegrendel/)
Sun, May 8th 2005 22:14
Education
Software Development :: Documentation
System :: Systems Administration
About: The Advanced Bash Scripting Guide is both a reference and a
tutorial on shell scripting. This comprehensive book (the equivalent of
about 646 print pages) covers almost every aspect of shell scripting. It
contains over 300 profusely commented illustrative examples, and a number
of tables. Not just a shell scripting tutorial, this book also provides an
introduction to basic programming techniques, such as sorting and
recursion. It is well suited for either individual study or classroom use.
Changes: Major stylistic changes were made in the text. Some bugfixes were
made and a great deal of new material was added, including several new
example scripts.

[002] - algorithms 2005-05-08
by Rogério Brito (http://freshmeat.net/users/rbrito/)
Sun, May 8th 2005 05:04
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX
About: The algorithms package is aimed at being both simple and powerful
for typesetting pseudo-code/algorithms in LaTeX documents. Since it uses
the (La)TeX engine to generate its output, the results obtained are
frequently of high-quality. The package comes with a manual and is quite
easy to use in day-to-day documents.
Changes: This version incorporates the ability to set up arbitrary
indentation of pseudo-code. This is especially useful when submitting
papers to journals with space constraints, as you can remove the block
termination constructs (like "end for", "end if", and "end while") without
being concerned with loss of readability. The manual was updated to
document this feature clearly. The infra-structure of this release will
allow easier future enhancements.

About: Axamol SQL Library executes SQL statements stored in external
library files from Java code, with named parameters. Separating SQL and
Java code increases readability, eases maintenance, and allows separate
testing and documentation.
Changes: This release added support for dynamically quoting SQL
identifiers. A few points were clarified in the documentation. The error
handling of omitted and null list parameters was improved.

Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: BalanceNG is a professional software load balancing solution for
Linux. It is small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session
persistence, different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Hash,
and Least Resource) and a customizable UDP health check agent in source
code. It supports VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) to set up
high availability configurations on multiple nodes. It integrates pcap
packet dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge". It supports "all service load
balancing" based on client IP address which enables most protocols to be
supported (e.g. active FTP, RTSP/RTP/RTCP streaming protocols).
Changes: Many important bugfixes. An improved configuration file syntax
introducing "blocks". An updated and substantially simplified command set
introducing the BalanceNG "network" concept. Interactive "show log" access
to syslog messages.

[008] - CoaSim 3.2 (Guile)
by Thomas Mailund (http://freshmeat.net/users/mailund_birc/)
Sun, May 8th 2005 08:28
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
About: CoaSim is a tool for simulating the coalescent process with
recombination and gene conversion under the assumption of exponential
population growth. It efficiently constructs the ancestral recombination
graph for a given number of individuals and uses this to simulate samples
of SNP and micro satellite haplotypes/genotypes. The generated sample can
afterwards be separated in cases and controls, depending on the states of
selected individual markers. The tool can accordingly also be used to
construct cases and control data sets for association studies.

rates across the simulated region.

sent an incorrect timestamp value was fixed along with a bug that caused
large jitter for the outbound RTP stream. A bug where a .wav file was not
being played into the outbound RTP stream if no sound card was attached
was fixed. A problem where failed authentication of an INVITE resulted in

by Niels Provos (http://freshmeat.net/users/nielsprovos/)
Sun, May 8th 2005 19:13
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Libdnsres provides a non-blocking, thread-safe API for resolving
DNS names. It requires that your main application is built on top of
libevent. The API essentially mirrors the traditional gethostbyname and
getaddrinfo interfaces. All return values have been replaced by callbacks
instead. The code borrows heavily from the BSD resolver library. In fact,
it is an extremely ugly hack to make the BSD resolver library non-blocking
and thread-safe without changing the API too much. Although it has not
been tested heavily, it should compile on BSD systems and Linux. The
library comes with a simple test program that can be use to verify if it
works correctly.

[041] - opag 0.8.0
by Martin Dickopp (http://freshmeat.net/users/mdickopp/)
Sun, May 8th 2005 14:11
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: Opag, which stands for "Option Parser Generator", is a program to
generate C or C++ code which parses command line options. It takes as
input a description of the command line options you want your program to
support. The output is a C or C++ function which finds these options in an
array of strings (typically "argv", the second parameter of the "main"
function) and sets variables accordingly. Short (single character) as well
as long (GNU style) options are supported. It is also possbile to associate
a help string with each option. Opag uses these to create a macro which
expands to a string containing a nicely formatted description of the
options.
Changes: The preprocessing directives #if, #ifdef, and #endif can be used
in the definition section of the input file. They are put around the
parsing code for the corresponding options so that code that recognizes
some options conditionally can be generated.

[042] - Peeranha42 1.0.3 (Peeranha42)
by eecid (http://freshmeat.net/users/eecid/)
Sun, May 8th 2005 08:17
About: Peeranha42 is an all-in-one software solution for P2P networks. The
software consists of two components, the P42 Client and the P42 Development
Kit. The client is the core of the software package and has a special
pluggable architecture. Furthermore, it builds up the interface between
the P2P network of JXTA and plugins using P2P networks. Due to the fact
that developing a P2P application is generally much harder and time
expensive than developing a simple client-server application, the client
offers an abstract network layer for easy development of P2P applications
in the form of P42 Plugins in minimum time. Some plugins are available for
download.
