[001] - abcpp 1.3.2 (Stable)
by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
Mon, May 9th 2005 05:58
Text Processing :: Filters
About: abcpp is a simple yet powerful preprocessor designed for, but not
limited to, ABC music files. It was written to overcome incompatibilities
between ABC packages, and to allow one to write portable, and more
readable ABC files.
Changes: A critical bug that prevented redefinition of macros was fixed.
Users are advised to upgrade.

by Paul Sherman (http://freshmeat.net/users/psherma1/)
Mon, May 9th 2005 10:55
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Text Processing :: General
About: abiword_clipart is a collection of over 70MB of non-transparent PNG
clip art, which is exactly what AbiWord prints and scales well. A patch
that makes the clipart folder the initial path when Insert->Picture is
chosen in AbiWord's menu is also available.
Changes: Download packages include an indexed, browsable version (the
tar.gz). Reorganization and cleanup of images.

[003] - amavisd-new 2.3.1
by Mark Martinec (http://freshmeat.net/users/mmartinec/)
Mon, May 9th 2005 16:20
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: amavisd-new is a high-performance and reliable interface between
MTAs and one or more content checkers, including virus scanners, and/or
the Mail::SpamAssasin Perl module. It talks to the MTA via (E)SMTP or
LMTP, or by using helper programs. No timing gaps exist in the design,
which could cause a mail loss. It is normally positioned at or near a
central mailer, not necessarily where the user's mailboxes and final
delivery takes place.
Changes: This release fixes testing for errno when the reading loop is
exited before EOF. It does not use get_autolearn_status with SA older than
3.0. It pre-loads additional SA modules needed by SA 3.1. Reading from the
dspam process has been fixed. SAVI-Perl used an incorrect option to
control MIME parsing. Disabling SQL wblist was fixed. TNEF decoding was
improved. Replacing address extensions was incorrect when the email
address started with a plus. This release unfolds obsolete folded headers
containing only whitespace. IP address lookups now understand classfull
subnets. A new subroutine read_array can read ACLs from a file.

browsing by category, article submission, and a professional and
attractive interface. It is intended to be used to store, manage, and
update article content for a knowledge base, but is very customizable and
enables any number of creative uses.
Changes: The formatting of the HTML template was changed from table-based
to CSS. Limited email integration was included for Q&A functions. The
search link was fixed, and path handling was improved for all scripts.

[005] - aroundme 0.5.0
by tom calthrop (http://freshmeat.net/users/barnraiser/)
Mon, May 9th 2005 14:43
About: aroundme is social networking and team interaction software. It has
three central components: a social network, groupware, and activities and
task management. It will work with standard Web server configurations, and
takes up a small amount of disk space (about 3 Mb). The amount of space
given to each user for image storage is configurable at installation. It
is easy to install and configure.
Changes: Templates have been upgraded with a new design. Aspell (spell
checking) and a wiki editor have been added, and search functionality
centralised. A Captcha (Completely Automated Public Turing to tell
Computers from Humans Apart) system has been added. Cron has been added
for mass newsletter sending ,and aroundme updated for UNICODE compliance.
There are about 70 other smaller enhancements.

[008] - basE91 0.4.1
by Joachim Henke (http://freshmeat.net/users/johe/)
Mon, May 9th 2005 10:49
Communications :: Email
Internet
System :: Archiving
About: basE91 is an advanced method for converting binary data to ASCII
text. It is similar to UUencode or base64, but is much more efficient. The
overhead produced by basE91 amounts at most to 23% (compare to 33% with
base64). Under some rare circumstances (for example, on 0-byte blocks), it
does a real 8-bit to 7-bit conversion, resulting in an overhead of only
14%. This makes it very useful for sending larger files over binary
insecure connections like email or terminal lines.
Changes: Java-b91enc can break encoded output to lines of 76 characters
now (using the '-b' switch), which makes it an useful stand-alone tool to
create MIME compatible email attachments.

Utilities
About: Bless is a fast and customizable hex editor written in GTK#. It
efficiently handles very large files and supports multiple undo-redo
actions. There are also plans for the addition of a Lua-based scripting
language for binary file manipulation.
Changes: This release features recent file support, session support (Bless
saves its state when you quit and tries to reload it when you start),
notifications when a file changes outside Bless, reduced memory
consumption by sharing common resources, and better help integration with
scrollkeeper and GNOME. The user configuration directory has been changed

[010] - bogofilter 0.94.10 (Current)
by Matthias Andree (http://freshmeat.net/users/mandree/)
Mon, May 9th 2005 08:30
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Text Processing :: Filters
About: Bogofilter is a Bayesian spam filter. In its normal mode of
operation, it takes an email message or other text on standard input, does
a statistical check against lists of "good" and "bad" words, and returns a
status code indicating whether or not the message is spam. Bogofilter is
designed with fast algorithms (including Berkeley DB system), coded
directly in C, and tuned for speed, so it can be used for production by
sites that process a lot of mail.
Changes: The Berkeley DB store allows run-time choice of transactional
(TXN) vs. classic (default) mode, with auto-detection for existing
databases. Option and filename processing is more consistent now. bogoutil
has new options. The new options and the bf_* scripts help to maintain TXN
databases. The SQLite driver supports byte-swapped use. Usability
improvements were made on Solaris. Lots of bugfixes were made.

[023] - Conary 0.60.0
by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
Mon, May 9th 2005 08:15
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: Changesets now compress individual files instead of the combined
stream, making changeset creation nearly instantaneous. Internal changes
to changeset format increase performance and flexibility. Trove
dependencies now include "capability flags". This version of Conary
requires a database conversion to maintain functionality; see
http://wiki.conary.com/ConaryConversion for details.

automatic class schema recognition, query-by-example, S.O.D.A. object
querying API, callback methods, memory files, cascade-on-delete,
multi-threaded access, and Java Webstart and servlet support.
Changes: This release comes with new replication functionality to automate
the distribution of objects to multiple disconnected databases, to track
their changes, and to merge versions of objects to a consistent and
up-to-date state. A new ObjectManager GUI to query and browse databases is
also provided for this version as a separate download. The help system was
improved to install itself directly into VS.NET.

Mon, May 9th 2005 02:12
About: KSB26 (Kernel Socks Bouncer) is Linux Kernel 2.6.x loadable module
that redirects TCP connections (to user-defined target hosts) through
SOCKS 4/5 chains in a completely transparent way. It uses a character
device to pass SOCKS 4/5 and the target IP addresses to the Linux kernel.
This is obviously quite useful if you want to transparently tunnel certain
things through a given proxy to remain anonymous, or if you want to be able
to sniff certain network traffic transparently.
Changes: The kernel patch was removed. Only the loadable kernel module is
supported now. This means that users no longer need to recompile their
kernels. Some small bugs were fixed and a new version of the userspace

Mon, May 9th 2005 10:53
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: lfyre is a general purpose, compiled programming language offering
performance, power, and flexibility. It supports object orientation and
inheritance, overloading and overriding of methods and operators,
contracts, reflection, and uniform access to object fields, functions, and
methods. It also provides features rarely found in compiled languages: new
operators and language keywords can be created, and it is possible to
invent new programming paradigms beyond the classic concepts of functions,
data structures, object orientation, polymorphism, and templates.
Changes: This release adds many new features: C++ style templates, aliases
with parameters, a new 'print' keyword, better names mangling, support for
mixing declarations and code, a new template class Array#[T], C++ style
declaration scope to 'for', new syntax '(a;b)', several new compile-time
keywords to manipulate classes, strings and identifiers, a more relaxed
syntax parser, and overloadable array operators 'a[b]', 'a[b,c]',
'a[b..c]'. Calls to a function with arguments of reference type and calls
to static and virtual methods now work as expected.

About: MfGames.Utility is a C# library that contains various functions and
frameworks, such as an auditing and logging framework. It also implements a
Mersenne Twister as a random number generator, an entropy framework, and
collections that use the framework for selection. The library also
contains many useful classes to simplify code, such as an abstract
reference system inspired from the Unix file system, additional conversion
classes, and timing or animation managers. This library requires no
additional packages or libraries beyond those supplied in Mono or .NET
1.0.
Changes: This release adds a Version class capable of comparing many
different type of versions, including Debian's "a.b.c-d" format. It fills
in a lot of the IAudited functionality so it reports the severity of the
audit properly. Static methods have been added to LogObject. The MIME

Scientific/Engineering
About: Moodss is a modular monitoring application, which supports
operating systems (Linux, UNIX, Windows, etc.), databases (MySQL, Oracle,
PostgreSQL, DB2, ODBC, etc.), networking (SNMP, Apache, etc.), and any
device or process for which a module can be developed (in Tcl, Python,
Perl, Java, and C). An intuitive GUI with full drag'n'drop support allows
the construction of dashboards with graphs, pie charts, etc., while the
thresholds functionality includes warning by emails and user defined
scripts. Any part of the visible data can be archived in an SQL database
by both the GUI and the companion daemon, so that complete history over
time can be made available from Web pages, common spreadsheet software,
etc.
Changes: Distributed monitoring was implemented, allowing, for example, a
moomps daemon to export collected data to a number of moodss GUI clients,
without them having to directly access the monitored machines. Many

Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
About: Nmap Parser is a Perl module to ease the pain of developing scripts
or collecting network information from nmap scans. Nmap::Parser does its
task by parsing the information in the output of an nmap scan by using the
XML-formatted output. This module can perform an nmap scan and parse the
output automagically using parsescan(). It can parse an nmap XML file.
This module was developed to speed up network security tool development
when using nmap.
Changes: This version included support for multiple instances of
Nmap::Parser objects without overwriting data. All data (except filters)
are localized per object. Storable (dclone) is now used to correctly make
duplicates of data structures. When filters are used to skip portinfo, all
ports now return state of 'closed'. Nmap::Parser::XML is no longer
supported. Calls to Nmap::Parser::XML should be changed to Nmap::Parser.

Mon, May 9th 2005 14:14
Communications :: Chat
Communications :: Chat :: AOL Instant Messenger
Communications :: Chat :: ICQ
About: The Off-the-Record (OTR) Messaging proxy is a multi- platform proxy
that allows you to have private conversations using the AIM client of your
choice. It provides encryption, which prevents someone who intercepts your
instant messages from reading them, authentication, which ensures that
the correspondent is who you think it is, and perfect forward secrecy,
which ensures that no previous conversation is compromised if you lose
control of your private keys.
Changes: This release works around a bug in Trillian that sometimes
prevented it from connecting to the AIM/ICQ network through otrproxy. New
per-buddy configuration is available by double-clicking a buddy's name in
the main OTR window. Popups on Win32 now actually show up in front of
other windows.

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Image Recognition
About: openEyes is an open-source open-hardware toolkit for low-cost
real-time eye tracking. The purpose is to provide a hardware design and a
set of software tools useful for the analysis of eye movement data.
Development stems from the recognition in the eye tracking and human
computer interaction communities that while the cost of hardware for eye
tracking has precipitously dropped in the recent past, there is lack of
freely available software to implement even long-established eye-tracking
methods. The tools available for this platform include algorithms to
measure eye movements from digital videos, techniques to calibrate the eye
tracking system, and example software to facilitate real-time eye-tracking
application development.

[065] - Peeranha42 0.9 (Chat plugin)
by eecid (http://freshmeat.net/users/eecid/)
Mon, May 9th 2005 06:51
About: Peeranha42 is an all-in-one software solution for P2P networks. The
software consists of two components, the P42 Client and the P42 Development
Kit. The client is the core of the software package and has a special
pluggable architecture. Furthermore, it builds up the interface between
the P2P network of JXTA and plugins using P2P networks. Due to the fact
that developing a P2P application is generally much harder and time
expensive than developing a simple client-server application, the client
offers an abstract network layer for easy development of P2P applications
in the form of P42 Plugins in minimum time. Some plugins are available for
download.
Changes: An interface for other applications to use the chat
(ChatStart.startChat) was added. The ability to search for specific peers
in the peer table was added. Group creation and group chat with user list
are now possible.

About: psycopg is a PostgreSQL database adapter for the Python programming
language. Its main advantages are that it supports the full Python DBAPI
2.0 and it is thread safe at level 2. It was designed for heavily
multi-threaded applications that create and destroy lots of cursors and
make a conspicuous number of concurrent INSERTs or UPDATEs. The psycopg
distribution includes ZPsycopgDA, a Zope Database Adapter.
Changes: This release has support for PostgreSQL arrays (mapped to Python
list objects) and improved support for BINARY columns (now mapped to
Python buffer objects.) It also fixes some outstanding bugs related to
GIL, .executemany(), binary and datetime management, and running on 64-bit
