This is normal as it needs to be 1st disk accessed by the Bios. This is
normally disk 0 unless your bios allows you to switch the access order as
mine does.

This is the correct behavior, It's related to the fact that GRUB must be on
the 1st disk accessed by the BIOS, which is usually hd0 "C" for Windows. If
your BIOS allows you, you can change the 1st disk accessed as I can, in
order to boot from HD1, but I do not recomended it because of "Human Error".

Having it boot successfully when Grub is on HD0 is your solution. As far as
partition errors, if you completely deleted the BSD disk label using FDISK,
then you do not have any errors unless your FDISK puked.
