That fixed the wheel mouse. K->logout or Action->logout take me to a Logout Dialogue which gives me the choice of rebooting or logging out. If I log out then I get a dialog with the choices of Log in, Reboot, or Shutdown(or halt). I am never given the choice of Exiting "X" or dropping back to normal text prompt. In my previous distrobution I could drop back to the non-X runlevel. How do I do that in Gentoo? > And if you want another console try CTRL-ALT-Fx (instead of ALT-Fx without a running X-server) If I boot and login as root at the linux prompt, then enter kdm and login as root at the GUI desktop prompt, then enter Ctrl-Alt-F2, I will reach another text linix prompt. So far so good, but how do I get back again to the GUI desktop? If I enter Ctrl-Alt-F1 I end up back at the original linux text prompt and I cannot get back into the GUI desktop. If I enter kdm nothing happens, apparently because the Xserver is already running. How can I move back and forth between the GUI and a Text prompt, or can I? Thanks again, wb
